K9n2 bios reading my cpu temps all wrong

K9n2 bios reading my cpu temps all wrong well actuly it not reading them at all my cpu AMD x2 5200 is said to be ideling at 26c but when i run a stress testor it stay at 26c so no change what so ever between load anf idle temps.
my cou core temps are wrong any way and all wasy have been core 0 idle at -2c and core 1 -22c but they have goe up to core 1 26c and core 2 8c load so its obviously geting hotter but the motherboard isant repoting that it is :/ i have used manny difforent programs and all came back with 26-27c for the cpu no mater what i do i have bios 3.3.
this never haped on my old ABIT kn9 sli it allways stated the corect cpu heat
ohh and also speed fan carnt recogise the cpu it just says temp 1,2,3 for the motherboard where as befor it was cpu, core, chip and so on (that was with old board)
any sugestions
sorry for spelling im dyslexic

well my cpu is back in my old motherboard with no problems at all no hard crashes and with the same ram timings the proper ram volts 2.1(msi board couldent handle 2.1v for ram) and the board only reports 26c no other temp used all temp programs and non of them changed when fully stresed only core temp showed any temp change but cart go buy that because my cores are so far off now on my old bard the temps go up and down like they should.
i did clear the CMOS whith all unpluged
all were at stock but ram voltage went to 1.8v so upped it to 2.1v (manual recomended) (wouldent start)
at stock if i restarted pc for somthing like an update it wouldent post unless it was un pluged at pluged back in (at stock)
and i have had no such problems with my old ASROCK board or my board im on now a ABIT kn9 570a sli
ohh and the board came warped but the rear ports
any way decided to go over to intel so got a EVGA board now and using a old p4 extream
sorry to sound pissed of but 2 boards that were useless (each was from difforent Etailor)
and windows was a fresh instal

  • Do the BIOS that fix CPU temps simply lie about it?

    I have a Newcastle A64 3400 with the K8N Neo Platinum (W7030).
Whenever I turn on my PC from a period of inactivity the temp says 55-60C, when I then reset the PC it says the temperature is in the 30s.
The only place I could get my case temperature probe is wedged between the fins of my CPU heatsink and that always reads about 40C or up to 45C under load.
Can this be right? Which of these temperatures should I trust and would my heatsink generally be hotter than the temperature of the actual CPU?
I'm getting these readings from Corecenter btw, it also says the CPU fan is spinning at over 5000 rpm under load, usually around 4000 rpm idle.
    Cheers for any help!

There is a known cold boot temp issue. It gives false readings after a cold boot but the temps are supposed to be somewhat OK after any warm boot. As temps really don't affect you and it would take some pretty high temps around 70c to bother anything my advice is to ignore it.

  • Weird cpu temps

I have the MSI K7N2 mobo and I'm having problems reading my cpu temps first of all I have the amd xp2600 thourobred cpu with a volcano 9 hsf w/ artic silver 3, Its showing a temp in bios and the software that comes with the mobo at 50c and case temps at 29c that seems a little on the hot side for this chip I have excellent cooling in a chieftac case, and in sisandra I get temps around 37c that seems more on the money but why can't the mobo tell me the truth, help ?(  ?(

sorry about that here are my specs, and also 50c is at idle and whats bizarre is that the comp can sit all night and not run and as soon as you turn it on its at 50c thats not right the last cpu I had would be at the same temp as the case and slowly rise up to 43c and that was a xp 2000 overclocked @1816, so i dont think it should be at 50c that fast could it be reading my psu temp instead? I can put my fingers on the hsf and its just barly warm in fact the whole case is really cool, just don't beleive its 50c but I could be wrong( it happens alot lol) under a hard load its about 53c

  • CPU Temp readings - which is right?

    Hello All:
For Xmas I treated myself to a new system build featuring a msi 970a-g46 and an amd fx-6300.  It's a huge improvement over the p4 3.06ghz w/hyper threading I've been running for the last 8 years.   I don't plan on doing any hard core gaming or aggressive overclocking.  It's mainly a media server for my home network.   The hardest work it will probably do is playing blu-ray movies or ripping them.   However,  I do want to keep an eye on cpu temps.   In the past I've relied on hwid and core temp.   I ran some prime95 stress tests and both hwid and core temp showed the cpu help holding steady at 51c; but msi control center/click bios showed the cpu temp as a very warm 68c.  Which of these tools should I rely on?  You can see most of my gear in my signature.   Thanks in advance.

I ran 3Dmark with 7770x2 and trust me 3Dmark tells me mine isn't either, to a degree.  But Mine sure is.  All my games play very incredibly well.  3Dmark is just a benchmark to compare to other hardware not necessarily a gaming minimum test.

  • CPU temp (dell dimension 8110)

Alright, I've searched high and low and cannot seem to find an answer. Is my system capable of reading the cpu temp or not?
lm-sensors reports the driver is in the `to-be-written` stage, There's nothing in /proc/acpi other than a file called 'wakeup'.. /proc/cpuinfo doesn't have any details regarding temp (not that it would). I swear I think I have tried everything out there, that's why I'm asking here as a last resort. Maybe I missed something (hopefully) or can possibly get a confirmation on wether or not this thing is able to read the temp.
    sensors-detect
    Driver `lm75':
    * Bus `i915 gmbus disabled'
    Busdriver `drm', I2C address 0x4a
    Chip `National Semiconductor LM75' (confidence: 3)
    Driver `to-be-written':[n1x4]-[~/bin]
    * ISA bus, address 0xc00
Chip `SMSC LPC47M182 Super IO Fan Sensors' (confidence: 9)
    [n1x4]-[~/bin]
    >> sudo modprobe lm75
    [n1x4]-[~/bin]
    >> sensors
    No sensors found!
Make sure you loaded all the kernel drivers you need.
Try sensors-detect to find out which these are.
    [n1x4]-[/proc/acpi]
    >> ls -a
    . .. wakeup

See here for instructions on setting up CPU frequency scaling, which you absolutely want on a laptop to save power and keep it cool (you may want to lower the up_threshold down to something like 15 to avoid a performance loss).
There's a few dell packages in the repos and the AUR and one of those might help you control fan speed (you could also check the BIOS).

  • Macbook pro 13' 2012 fan problem? (high cpu temp)

my macbook gets cpu temp at 98C and then the fan starts raising speed from the default rpm(2000rpm).
with heavy cpu usage and cpu temp at 93-100C, tha fan waits about  2-5 minutes and then kicks in and increase the rpm( the higher rpm i saw was 4000rpm at 101C cpu temp). all the other time the fan speed is between 1995-2004rpm.
    Is this normal?
I've already tried SMC and PRAM reset and clean OSX installation.

    thank you for your answer.
But is it normal for the fan to wait so long 2-5 minutes and then start raising the rpm?
I expected that the rpm will go up simultaneously with the Cpu temp. Like if the Cpu starts increasing temp (about 70-80C) the fan will kick in...
I know from a friend with a Macbook retina that his fans keep spinning at 3000-4000rpm and always keep the Cpu temp close to 60C. I know that the architecture is diferent but the cooling logic should remain the same. right?

  • Help .. My Bios reads th Temp of my CPU at 72 c

I am very new here , I have Neo Platinum mainboard and AMD 64 3000+ Processor , When I entered the Bios , I looked in the Health option , the Temperatur of the Processor was 72 c , is that true ? Why that high Temp ? It i really burning when this is true ...
And what is Cool 'n Quiet ? Is that a Client or what ? and for what can I use that ? because I saw many people here were talking about it ..
Please excuse me people I am very new with all this things ...
    Thanks for any help !

I have the same problem, it's my first build so I'm worried I have actually messed up the CPU and heatsink or something and the temps are real.
I had the PC looked at in a local computer shop and they said it was fine. I even took off the retail heatsink and re-applied some thermal compound.
When I did this I used a template intended for a socket 423 heatsink but it was roughly the same size as my CPU die (about 1mm smaller on each side) and I made sure it was right in the middle of the heat sink base. The layer was also extremely thin, any thinner and it would be non-existant. Is this all correct?
My temperatures as shown by Motherboard Monitor 5 are Case 45C, CPU 57C. The temperature probe in my case wouldn't fit under the processor so I wedged it between the heatsink and the socket ridge as low as it would go. From here the probe reads 32C, does that give any indication of whether my temperatures are actually bogus?
Also, BIOS gives me a temp of around 64C.

  • K9N-Platinum wrong cpu temp + nforce drivers problem

    I have a msi k9n-platinum (ms-7250)
    Cpu : Amd 64 x2 3800+
    4 * 512 ddr II 533 samsung
    Asus 7900 GT
    6 x maxtor sata hd's
    Power : hyper type-r 580 watts
    pioneer 110d
    lg combo cdrw-dvd
When i builded the system , i installed Windows XP + Sp2 , made all windows updates
After i tryed to install the drivers a got wit the cd.
My system was very instable (i had no problem whit the motherboard i had before)
I made the install more than once , but still got instability
So i went to the nvidia site and downloaded the drivers for the chipset from there , and also made a bios update to v 1.2
    System went stable.
Tried again after the bios update with the original cd --> not stable , randomless reboot
so i'm now working with the nvidia drivers from the nvidia site , it's stable but when i go to bios i see that the CPU temp is -38°
Is it a fix for this or do i have a wrong mobo ????

    -38°C , seen that a few times now .
I think you should RMA/return the motherboard .
    Why , see:

Not the same board as yours but all have a faulty calibraded (non workin) sensor on their motherboards .
The positive thing though is that the boards with this issue that runs on AMI bios doesn't freeze/halt as the award based ones does.

  • B3 bios reports cpu temp 10c higher than b5 bios on k7n2 plat

    Dear list,
b3 bios reports cpu temp 10c higher than b5 bios on k7n2 plat after reading posts that b3 is more stable changed back to that so far so good, seems more stable its just that cpu temp was 45-50 c on b5 bios but on b3 in the bios is says 60 c and in core center it now says 40c but was 70c before I re booted very odd indeed, its stable but soemtimes doesn't shutdown have to turn off but thats probely a widnows probelm somewhere.
    cheers

ps do I need to clear cmos when I have put new bios in or will it doit as part of the process ??

    dear os navi,
    yep
    http://www.thermaltake.com/coolers/volcano/rs/a1889.htm
I got this one with a heat duct on it. yes its all seated well and clean, just downloaded a corecenter update, cleared the cmos and started again. I am now getting 44 c for the temp now. What the bios says I dont know, could be that I hadnt cleared the bios that the temp was reading wrong.
    cheers

  • K7N2GM-L 6777 BIOS doesnt correctly detect CPU temp and FAN speed

    Hello,
    I use a K7N2GM-L 6777 mobo with a amd 1800+ and a arctic copper silent 2tc.
the mobo isnt able to detect the right cpu temperature and cpu fan speed in bios.
    did anyone experienced that problem??
i already updated to the latest bios V1.6 but no change !!
the cpu temp is shown about 6°C/42°F and the fan speed is 0 rpm !!!
but the system temp is shown correctly (21°C/69°F (when i just started the system))
    any idea

    Hello!
It has been heard of before, yes, but your board is rather new so I don't think it has had an issue yet.
There is normally a sensor on the processor. If it does on your processor I can't say. If there isn't a sensor on the processor, or if it is covered with thermal grease, or otherwise damaged, BIOS and all programs that read BIOS data will be wrong.
Bit off: I'm speculating in that HSF, and I wonder how good and quiet it is. Been recommended by a store nearby.

  • Another Odd CPU Temp Reading

My CPU temp shows 66C-77C in the BIOS and also on every temp program I have tried, and I mean them All. When I take a temp reading with my VOM it shows a cushy 38C at the CPU and HS and feels very cool to the touch. I have not heard any problems with the clawhammer core..what gives???

Took It all Apart once again and triple checked everything. It has to be a BIOS related problem on the KT8M-ILSR Mobo. Cannot figure out what else it can be.

  • It ALL works (mostly)!!! CPU Temp Monitor??

Just finished assembling my new system and loading it up this weekend, and amazingly, it works. Even with CL3 ram it runs much faster than a P4 1.8A on SiS 645/DDR333 board I had. I am amazed at how big a difference there is in the way XP Pro loads and retrieves data and how smooth it sets up. I did not have to load ANY drivers! A huge step forward from 98SE.
The only issue appears to be that the temperature monitor is out to lunch (So was my last board the SiS645 one, it did the exact same thing) for both CPU and Case. I installed a seperate case system to monitor temp and it gives me 22 deg C after I rearranged the airflow from the fans. I am thinking of drilling out the stock heatsink and inserting one of these temp monitors to real time monitor the CPU.
Has anyone come up with a good way to really monitor CPU temps with this board??

    Hey,
I loaded up MBM (after I figured out what it was and where to find it). It seems pretty good: The case reads 37 deg C (my independent sensor reads 27 deg and bios says 47) and CPU reads 47 deg (bios says 57).
The real questions is : My -12 volts reads -6, and I have played with the settings to find the right sensor, and every sensor I select changes all the voltage readings. Is there a specific selection for readings that sets this up right?
Also, I found a Lian-Li temp sensor with thin tape probes that is designed to be set between CPU/Heatsink to provide real time accurate monitoring for chips (theres two, so I plan on doing CPU and NB), so I will have real data instead of hoping it is right. (19.00 US). Nice little 3.5" or 5.25"  models avail in black, silver or beige.

  • Bios 3.5 and raised cpu temps

i just updated my bios to version 3.5 and my cpu temps went from 32c idle to 52 idle .now ive returned to bios 3.4 and my temps have gone back to 32c idle ..
has anyone else had this strange problem..i know the 3.5 bios updates the cpu microcode and maybe this is the problem or is it that the new bios is giving the right readings and the 3.4 bios giving the wrong readings.!!!!!!any help from the moderators is welcome on this subject

  • Won't read CPU temp

I am building a Media Center machine from some new bits and some old. I chose an MSI K7N2 Delta 2 LSR board as it supported my redundant Athlon CPU, a fanless north bridge, serial and parallel hard drives and on board sound. It looked ideal particularly as I am very happy with the MSI board on my main machine.
Put it all together and fired up into BIOS.  All looked OK till I looked at the PC Health bit. CPU temperature given as 125 C/ 1 F. Returned the board  to the supplier (Scan) who found the board faulty (it would not even boot up) and replaced it.  New board gave exactly the same. CPU temp 125 C/ 1 F.  The system temp looks OK at 20 C. Phoned Scan who said it was a mystery. Offered to replace it again.
What do I do? If I go for an identical replacement will I get the same again? Have I missed something and my system is causing this error and not the board? Do I go for something else and if so what?
    Thanks

    Hi responders,
A little more background might help.  I started this Media Centre with a redundant Abit KT7 board. I then installed Windows XP Media Center. It worked reasonably well but was a little unstable.  This was the reason it was redundant, I had replaced it on my my main machine with the MSI KTN2 Delta ISLR which turned out to be excellent. I then replaced this Abit board on my media Centre with an MSI K&N2 Delta 2 LSR and had to do a Windows repair.  I should have done a clean install.  Anyway it worked up to a point. With this first MSI K7N2 Delta 2 LSR motherboard I got a CPU temperature of 125 C/ 1 F in the BIOS. Carried on into Windows XP and came up with a CPU temperature of -127 C in CoreCell. This motherboard returned and found to be faulty and replaced. Installed this replacement MSI K7N2 Delta2 LSR and it came up with identical results.
Re enginerr 2001.  Both motherboards boot OK.  Yes I ma afraid, but don't believe, the CPU temperature is too high.  The processor is correctly identified. I did not use the same heatsink thermal paste.  Cleaned and used a little Akasa thermal paste.
Re Wananoby. see my signatures which I have updated with more detail.
Re Doctor Stu. I agree the temperature reading, either or both +125 C or 1 F, are incorrect.  Incidently CoreCell gives the CPU as -127 C !!!
My feeling is that there is a fault in the CPU thermocouple or the processing of its output. But the identical fault on two motherboards is too much of a coincidence unless it is a batch fault in which case others would have had the same problem.
Re Fredrik Asenius. I must admit I'm not sure where to look for this.  When I boot up I get
    Phoenix Award BIOS v6.00PG
    W 6570NMS v11.4 081604 13:34:12
I'd be interested to know what is what.
    My next step
    Do I
    1. Ignore ithe CPU temperature and do a clean reinstall of Windows.
    2. Ask for a replacement motherboard, probably from the same batch.
    3. Ask for my money back and go for something else?  If so what?
    Thanks again
