K9N2 Diamond graphics drivers

Hello, I've bought a PC with the following configuration:
AMD Phenom 9950 Black Edition
MSI K9N2 Diamond Board
2x2GB OCZ DDR 1066 ram
1x 9800GTX Video card
900 watt PSU - Tagan
Win Vista Ultimate 64bit
And I have a big problem with the chipset graphic card drivers - everytime I try to update the drivers, after restarting the system, my LCD goes to "Power saving mode". I have to uninstall the drivers (I tried 4 versions) and use the default one (7.15.11.7540).
And other one, don't know if it's problem - the chipset video card has always the same drivers, as the 9800 GTX graphic card - is it OK?
Thanks in advance for all your answers...

Use drivers from Nvidia 178.13 {September 25, 2008}

  • K9N2 Diamond problems installing Vista 64bit Raid Drivers

Hello everyone I have been having problems installing Raid Drivers during Vista 64 Install.  The 32-bit drivers work fine and I can also set up Windows Vista 32 in Raid 0.  But the same place where the " No CD/DVD drivers..." clause is will not let me use 64-bit Drivers.  I have tried MCP72 and MCP73 raid drivers and neither is recognized.  This is my setup.....

I am not using IDE at all,  everything is Sata. So in BIOS I have IDE Controller off.   I have the SATA port Set to RAID.  I have no idea what I am doing wrong.  I had this same setup on my K9N SLI Platinum board and it all worked fine. However every since I "upgraded" to this board I havent been able to install Vista 64 on my Array.  I also have tried formatting the HDDs and I have tried setting up the Raid all over. Plz help me.  This is my first post ever in a forum so if you need any info that I did not post here pls just let me know :D

  • K9N2 Diamond - Can't Disable Onboard Graphics

    Hello all,
I have a peculiar problem (or maybe it isn't problem at all):
If I select to disable the onboard graphic chip in BIOS, the system halts (complete freeze) after memory check, only way out is to force shutdown and BIOS reset.
On board, there are four little status leds, when the onboard graphics is disabled, they are (looking from the "back" of board) from left to right: green-red-green-red. I haven't been able to find out what the sequence means, looks to me like MSI has never published the codes.
The freeze happens whether I have quickboot enabled or not.
    My system specs are:
    MSI K9N2 Diamond
    AMD Phenom 9850 BE
XFX GeForce 8800 GT Alpha Dog 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI
    8 GB Corsair DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 XMS2 DHX
    2x Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB S300 RAID 1
CoolerMaster 700W REAL POWER PRO MODULAR PSU
    Lian-Li SILVER CLASSICAL SERIES
    Philips Brilliance 200W 20.1"
BIOS version is 2.0 (not flashed).
The XFX card works perfectly and when both cards are active, I have no issues with system at all (all works perfectly). Also RAM has passed Memtest++ several times and is correctly detected and configured by BIOS (800MHz).
All BIOS settings affecting performance are in their defaults (no overclocking, no voltage tweaking etc).
The problem is that I can't set these two cards to SLi nor MultiGPU because they are not identical (please correct me if I'm wrong in that).
The problem is that both cards now want to run separate monitor (I only got one I can use permanently) meaning that I either won't see boot messages or I won't see desktop depending on which card I have the monitor connected on.
So, in brief, here's my questions are:
Do you know why disabling the onboard chip freezes POST?
Do you know a solution to this problem?
If you answer "yes" to either or both above, please tell me too what is the reason and what is the solution

Hi and thanks for the reply.
Just to be sure what you mean:

You should be able to disable onboard while monitor cable is connected to the 8800, should even be automatically disabled.
You mean having monitor connected to both cards and then disable the onboard chip?
Quote from: Fredrik on 02-November-08, 20:54:10
Could have to do with the Hybrid SLI feature  . Disable if you don't want it.
That's disabled currently (you can't disable onboard chip if it's enabled).

As BIOS seems to be involved, what BIOS version do you have?
    Original 2.0 (shipped with board).

  • Graphics upgrade on k9n2 diamond

hi i upgraded my board and cpu recently, i feel my ageing 8800gtx is now the weakest part, getting some slowdown on games not a lot but it's noticable, i also have a 2 games i would like to play at full settings on my 24" monitor.
i set the pc up with 2 gtx 260 which seemed good but they have returned to their home now. leaving the gtx
problems i have is the gtx260's just fit in my case, the gtx will only fit in the top slot (the gtx260 is about half and inch shorter)
so im limited (don't make me change the case!) to a card of 10.5 inches. whats working well? if it worth sli? or should i just get a 280 gtx in the top slot (assuming it's longer than the 260)
any advice? it's gonna cost me so i want to get it right, i have heard the ati cards are a good buy but im guessing i cant do cross fire?
    many thanks

morning thats an option i hadnt concidered, and didnt know i could do, the ati card seems the best value, in games forums they seem to be very well recieved, in this case the gtx has to go in the top slot though, would this still be possible?
i was thinking 2 gtx260, but i had vista since it was longhorn and the 8800 was one of the first out (and expensive) so i have had plenty of vista /nvidia er joy. to be honest untill a year ago the card, was far from it's full potential and only seems to have reached it, with drivers etc when they pull the damn card, will i have the same 'joy' with the new model, i wonder!

  • MSI K9N2 Diamond - Issues

First off I would like to greet everyone.  Now on to the fun part.  I just recently upgraded my entire computer.  Despite the poor rating of the K9N2 Diamond on Newegg I ordered the board anyway.  I counted myself fortunate that the board wasn't DOA, however it seems to be the most finicky mainboard I have ever owned.  The following are the components currently installed.
    MSI K9N2 Diamond
    AMD Athlon 64 7750+ BE
2x MSI GeForce 9600 GT OC
    Antec Earthwatts 500W PSU
    4GB (2x2GB) GSkill 1066 RAM
And the little Soundblaster X-Fi card that came with the board.
Here are my issues in (almost) chronological order.
After putting it all together I installed XP Pro x64 so I could take advantage of my 4 gigs of RAM.  The system ran well for a while until I tried to use SLI while playing Far Cry 2.  After about 5 minutes the game froze and nothing short of a hard reset would fix it.  I researched that issue for a while to find that the probable culprit are the drivers.  That was fine.  I realized that my RAM was running at 800, so I went into the BIOS to fix that.  What I read of the documentation on the board told me that RAM would run at 1066 provided it was using an AM2+ CPU, and the 7750+ is AM2+.
Anyway I adjusted the BIOS so that the RAM would run at 1066 and the machine refused to POST.  That was irritating so I pulled the power cable and waited a few minutes.  After plugging it back in and pressing power it again refused to POST.  I spent about an hour and a half trying to get the thing to POST; finally resorting to pulling the CMOS battery for about 15 minutes which made the computer FINALLY POST.
After having several more issues with XP x64 I reformatted and switched to x86.  I tried again to use SLI with the stock drivers that came with the card (ver. 175.xxx) which again froze games.
I decided since I was having so many problems that I should try and flash the BIOS to the current version.  That didn't work well either.  After successfully flashing in Windows with the MSI Live Update utility (which in hindsight may have been a poor choice) the board once again refused to POST.  I thought I had bricked it but fortunately after pulling the CMOS battery again for a few minutes solved the problem.
Cutting to the chase I am now on my third fresh install of Windows and am too worried to change any BIOS settings or enable SLI.  I thought my power supply was the culprit but after getting several opinions I'm postive that the PSU is more than capable of handling the load.  So basically I have a $1600 machine that about 4 times out of ten refuses to POST.
    Any help would be appreciated.

You have noticed it does not run well with memory speed set at 1066, so change that. There lies very little if any performance in the vibration of the "silly" memory.
If something freezes it is a sign of - strangely enough - overheating, processor and/or graphics processor. Much fast memory keeps the processor very busy, and if there is bad vibes(!) between the processor and the memory overheating comes like spam in the mail box.
I couldn't even get the board to POST at 1066, so I just left it at 800.  After three different copies of XP I decided to try Vista.  I figured it couldn't hurt considering the computer doesn't really run well anyway.  Games now crash whether SLI is enabled or not.  Always the same issue.  Game runs for about 5 minutes or so, and then it freezes and CTDs and this little pop up balloon tells me that nvldmmkm.sys has stopped responding and has been recovered.  This puts me in the same boat as I was in with XP.  I spoke to MSI tech support and the guy just sent me an updated BIOS and told me to use that.  It didn't help at all.
Interesting though, I turned on Hybrid SLI support in the BIOS just for kicks and managed to play about 8 or 9 minutes of a game without a crash or freeze.  I don't know how long that would have lasted since I closed the game.  The weird part is my video cards don't even support Hybrid SLI.  On the nvidia website the supported card list goes from 8800 GTX to 9800 GT, and I have two 9600 GTs.  This just keeps getting weirder.
Also as an addendum, the computer no longer shuts down when I tell it to shut down.  I mean everything else shuts down like the video signal to the monitor, disk drives, etc...just...the fans keep going.

  • K9N2 Diamond & Gigabyte 8800 GT SLI (Mb Problem!!)

Hi. I recently had a K9N Diamond with 2 Gigabyte 8800 GT (GV-NX88T512HP TypeB) in SLi, worked perfectly. One fo them fried and sent it to rma. In this time, changed motherboard (to K9N2 Diamond) and PSU (NOX Urano 600w to Corsair TX750). Worked all ok, but with only one Gigabyte VGA. Gigabyte rma gave me an identical card, but Type A. Tried SLI with the other one and it didn't worked. Both cards in solo work fine. Together, the monitor power led flashes but no image, I even hear the music of windows starting, but no image. Tried it with another motherboard and it worked. The board was a MSI K8N SLI Platinum. Not a vga problem. I read the manual, and it says that i need to connect the two 3way SLI connectors for a dual sli config. Rather confusing. It also refers to "SLI Drivers" ?. Never heard of it. Please help!!

No. But i achieved sli yesterday. I disabled the onboard graphics card (this board has Hybrid SLI) on the driver settings. The sli is running but only when windows starts. I can't see post, so i can't enter bios.

  • Not Able To Install Nvidia Graphics Drivers

    Hello all!
This past week I just finished putting my new system together with a K8N Diamond Plus. Only major problem right now is i am not able to install Nvidia's drivers. Below are my components...
    XP 64-Bit Edition
    MSI K8N Diamond Plus
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+
    BFG 7900 GTX 512MB
    1 Gig Coirsar Ram
2 Wester digital HD in Raid 0
When I try and install the graphics drivers i get the message " The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."
I used the chip set drivers listed here: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_detail.php?UID=710&kind=1
Also I have tried the ones from NVIDIA's site: http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_nf4_winxp64_x16_6.83
The graphics drivers i used are from NVIDIA's site: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp64_81.98.html
BFG Tech support guy had me look under display adapters in device manager. It only has Standard VGA Graphics Adapter listed. He said I did not have my chip set drivers installed (though i have), or the motherboard was not recognizing it. Also he said they do not support XP-64 and would not offer me any more support so long as i run it.
I just can not believe that XP 64, 7900 GTX, and this great K8N Diamond Plus can not get along.
Any advice anyone has for getting my Diamond Plus and my graphics card to jive together would be greatly appricated.
    Thankyou all!!

Thankyou guys for the responses. I was able to find drivers that worked with my card here..
    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/index.php?drivers&series=80&os=2&type=1&dir=1
Now my only current issue left is that I have no sound. It is enabled in the BIOS, installed the 64-bit drivers from MSI site, tired installing drivers off disk. Any suggestion?

  • K9N2 Diamond refuses to P.O.S.T...

    Greetings,
I'm in a bit of a predicament and was wondering if anybody has some ideas as to the solution to the problem I am about to present.
Let me start with a little background:
I built this system around 2 years ago and haven't had many problems with it. I've reformatted numerous times, the most recent being last month. About a week or two ago
I tried to play a .wmv file via Windows Media Player. My system hung during program execution and I was forced to manually power off my computer (in other words, I held
the power button for five seconds). When I powered the system back on it failed to P.O.S.T.
Now, during a normal start-up a number of things happen:
A.) The computer powers on, fans start whurring, lights from the K9N2's on-board LED's will flash between green and red (this is important), and finally power is fed to my I/O devices.
B.) The mainboard then beeps (I cannot remember the beep pattern), all the on-board LED's are green, my display shows my BIO's screen, and the system then continues it operations before loading the Operating System.
C.) Windows is then loaded and I have an operational computer. Hurray.
Here is what happens as of now:
A.) The computer powers on, fans star whurring, lights from the K9N2'S on-board LED's will flash for what appears to be two cycles (basically the LED's go through two patterns) and then I hear a long beep followed by two short beeps. (Beeeeeeepp.... Beep. Beep.) The LED pattern stays as follows: RED, RED, RED, GREEN.
No power is fed to my I/O devices and I receive no display. The computer basically hangs. One thing I feel I should mention is that I was able to get the computer to start again by clearing the CMOS but this strategy will not work anymore. Note: this process involved restarting the computer countless times, clearing the CMOS, starting the computer and seeing if it would P.O.S.T, if it did not, I repeated the process. It was not as if I simply cleared the CMOS and the computer worked instantly. I had to do it several times.
Now it seems no matter what I do the system refuses to P.O.S.T. My computer specs are listed at the bottom of this thread. If you felt something was not clear or you feel you need more information, please let me know and I will be glad to explain. I look forward to working with anyone who is willing to help me tackle this problem.
    Take care,
    pr3ddd
    COMPUTER SPECS:
-MSI K9N2 DIAMOND AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA NFORCE 780A SLI ATX MAINBOARD
-ABS TAGAN BZ SERIES 900W PSU
    -AMD ATHLON 64 X2 6400+ @3.2GHZ PROCESSOR
    -4GB OF CORSAIR DOMINATOR DDR2 1066 RAM
    -NVIDIA 9800GX2 DUAL-GPU GRAPHICS CARD
-SEAGATE BARRACUDA 500GB 7200RPM SATA HDD
-CREATIVE SOUND BLASTER X-FI ELITE PRO SOUND CARD
    -MICROSOFT'S WINDOWS X64 PROFESSIONAL

So.... Problem solved. Looks like it was the graphics card. When I got the almost normal boot I realized that the only reason I had: GREEN, RED, GREEN, GREEN LED's was because the system was waiting for me to load the default values for the CMOS but since I didn't have any display I couldn't see that. So I replaced my HDMI cable with a VGA cable and the system reverted to the previous RED, RED, RED, GREEN state. At that point, I took out the graphics card, used the onboard video and wa-la. Thank you Mike. I'd have never thought to reseat the graphics card. Looks like no games for a while... Oh well.

  • K9N2 Diamond works with X2 3800+ but not Phenomii 940 with updated BIOS

    The system in question.
    MSI K9N2 Diamond Current BIOS 7375v 2.6, have also tried 2.5, 2.4, 2.3, 2.2
    AMD Phenom II 940
    2X 2Gb Corsair CM2X2048-6400C5
Antec True Power 750 Watt P.S.
    EVGA Nvidia GTX 260 GPU
    W.D. 300Gb HDD
This system is about 6 months old. When I put this system together for my brother in law, he ordered the parts with the intention of using his old mobo but didn't realize it didnt support the phenom chip he ordered. SO rather than waiting for another ordered part we took a trip to our local Comp USA. K9N2 Diamond said it was phenom 2 ready, yeah ok. Anyway after a few hours of going crazy trying to figure this out for him I found out it wasn't phenom2 capable till you updated the BIOS with an older CPU. Lucky for us I use an X2 3800+ in my machine. So I popped my chip in and ipdated his BIOS with the USB drive tool. Everything seemed right with the world then.
Now he brought the PC over for me to install Windows 7 64 bit for him. Did the install and was tracking down the few drivers Windows 7 missed and ran across Live update 4 for drivers and utilities. Should have known better but I went ahead and let it update the BIOS to 2.6. Sure enough, the CPU and GPU fans cycle on and off with no post. Check this post as his issues are identical to the ones I am experiencing. https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=133615.0 Now they never resolved this guys issue and it looks like he just RMA'd the board.
So I started narrowing down the possible issues. First thing I did was find the MSI USB Flash Tool again and put BIOS 2.2 back on with my 3800+ back in his machine. Machine worked with every BIOS version from 2.2 to 2.6 installed with USB tool with my 3800+ in his machine but would not post at all with all BIOS versions and his phenomII. Every time his CPU is in the machine, when the power is turned on the CPU and the GPU fans both go to max RPM then turn off over and over. Cleared CMOS multiple times. I know the clear was working when I put my 3800+ in it would state the time was reset in BIOS. Pulled everything out but one stick of RAM and same thing, posts with 3800+, nothing with phenomII. Tried the other stick of RAM although it passed both a memory test with USB tool and memtest with 3800+ installed. Same. Pulled CoolMax 750W PS from my machine and put it in his. Same issues. No post with PhenomII, posts with 3800+. Now this is with NOTHING but a stick of known good RAM, PS, Mobo, CPU and CPU fan. Using onboard video. All other drives, fans, pci devices, ect are disconnected.
So now I have 2 machines in my office all taken apart as I do not want to have to button my machine back up just to tear it back apart in case I have to do more to his Mobo with my CPU. I would rather not have to RMA the board if I do not have to like the guy in the link to the post I put up above.

I understand the need for future proofing mainboards as much as possible. What I am not ok with is the labeling on the box stating the board is PhenomII ready when in fact it isn't ready unless you have an older CPU that you can use to flash the BIOS to make it ready. Plus, if Live Update is the POS that everyone makes it out to be on the forums, why is it the first option on MSI's website for driver and BIOS downloads? MSI's USB Flash Tool is probably one of the easiest things I have ever used to update a BIOS, why not have that as the first option?
Anyway, I managed to talk a buddy into bringing his rig over to help me figure this out. Replaced his 965 with the 940 in question and it fired right up in an ASUS M4A785-M mobo. Tried the memory and PS in his rig as well just to triple check them and they were also good. Put his 965 in the K9N2 Diamond after making sure the BIOS was version 2.6 with the 3800+ and did not fire up with his 965 in the socket.
    So a quick recap.
940 and 965 PhenomII will not post in the K9N2 Diamond but the 3800+ will.
All three post in the M4A785
tested memory by using only the slot closest to CPU in K9N2 on stick at a time. Both sticks work in the K9 with the 3800+ and both sticks work in the M4A785 with all three CPU's.
have tried every BIOS version from 2.2 to 2.6 using the MSI USB Flash Tool with the 3800+ in the K9N2.
Have cleared CMOS multiple times with the power cord out and holding down the On/Off switch for 20 seconds to discharge the caps before clearing. After every clear the next successful post says that the BIOS time needs to be updated.
P.S. works on three different rigs.
Any ideas or suggestions? If I must RMA than I must. But it works with the 3800+ so there has to be something firmware wise that is causing this.

  • Boot with e-sata External HDD - K9N2 Diamond

    Hello.
Installed Windows Vista Home Premium in one hdd, but want to put it in an external case and boot it from there. Does the K9N2 Diamond support boot with an external e-sata disk ? I know that with usb does, but e-sata can't fin out.

    Quote
Windows will refuse to boot from it (Microsoft does not want you to have a removable HD
This is somewhat true for external USB Hard Drive.  However, it has nothing to do with Microsoft not wanting you to do anything.  If Windows is installed on a USB Hard Drive, the problem is that when you try to boot from it, Windows will put out a BSOD.  The reason is that during the early boot phase, Windows will fire up the USB Drivers.  When that happens, there is a change of parameters which will cause a short shut-down of USB Functionality.  Ultimately, Windows will not find the USB Drive it has just booted from and tell you that the whole drive or certain data cannot be found.  This can be overcome by modifying parts of the Installation Routine that handles the Installation of the USB Drivers during boot-up phase.
In any case, the problem is related to USB Drives only.  As eSATA-Ports are hosted directly by the SATA Controller, the operating system will basically just treat it as a normal hard drive (Windows would also not know the difference, when you install an eSATA Bracket connected to one or more of the internal SATA Ports.)
Also, AHCI it basically only needed for HotPlug Support.  As long as the hard drive stays connected to the system, it will be treated like a normal SATA Drive.
    Quote
Microsoft does not want you to have a removable HD that you can carry all over the place and boot from
BTW:  This will not work unless the different systems you want to use the installation with are the same or similar to the system configuration that Windows was installed on.  A different video card and a differen chipset may render the installation pretty much useless. Also, when you change between a system that has AHCI Enabled for the SATA Controller to a System running in SATA/IDE Mode ---> and then back to an AHCI System, there is a high chance that the installation will not properly adapt to the hardware change and mess itself up trying to adapt to the situation in terms of driver intialization.  You may run into to numerous BSODs.

    Love these year old threads.
Flashing is what some other sites specialize in, or even troubleshooting non-Apple cards.
There is an AMD Mac Edition 7950. Now. As well as EVGA GTX 680.
All of those were tested and reported on by Barefeats - back in March-May 2013.
Apple? not interested in PC cards other than they have quietly added more driver support in 10.8.3 and especially above. Not in 10.8.2.
Be interesting to see what Maverick support provides as far as GPUs.
And netkas and others are up on PC graphic cards, not Apple, even if they don't write drivers, they do often write how to flash a PC card and support. Apple and this discussion, no.

  • MSI K9N2 Diamond CPU FAN SPEED

It is not much of a problem, but, recently I changed my msi k9n platinum with k9n2 diamond and, of course, I transfered the old hardware to the new mainboard.
My CPU is x2 64 athlon 6000+ and my fan is Cooler Master Susurro (http://www.overclockersonline.net/?page=articles&num=354). On my platinum board my fan
acted quietly, around 1000-1100 rpms and the cpu temp. around 42-44 degrees celsius. As I changed the mainboard the cpu temp. fell on 34-36 BUT the cpu fan
is now cooling faster, around 1400-1600 rpms. I don't mind my cpu 8 degrees hotter and a better sleep at night :D. I've tried latest drivers, cool&quiet drivers, bios
cool&quiet, smart fan target.. nothing helps. It is the same. I run windows XP SP2. Updated to the last released bios. Tied speedfan, but it doesn't support that
mainboard. And my fan is now too loud, can someone help me

When changing motherboard you need to do at least a repair installation of Windows. Can't really be avoided.
That would mean you reinstall motherboard drivers. Maybe things work better this time.
You set Cooln'quiet to minimal savings, if I'm not mistaken.
Your Susurro got a few years. Are you sure it is up to the job? The test you link to was with a Socket 939 processor, at about half to 2/3 the power and heat output to the one you got.
Oh, and please mention your PSU, too.

  • K9N2 Diamond: Shared video memory, how to disable?

As on subject: I can see the entry in the bios settings and I can choose the memory amount to share, but I can't disable it (entry is gray and unselectable) and even if I try to set other values than 256M the values resets to it when I save changes to cmos.
In addition windows recognize 512M of ram (which is the maximum value selectable in bios settings about shared memory) less then it would do: I have 4Gb of ram and 2 8800GT 512M: total system ram is 5G. Windows 32 bit see 2,5G of system ram, to reach 4Gb (the maximum overall memory size recognizeble by a 32-bit os) i miss 1,5G, 1 by the graphic boards and the other 512M...I bet is the shared memory. I would disable it so to free up 512M of system ram is there a way to do it?

If you're not able to change the share memory to none, go to on chip VGA in bios and disable it

  • K9N2 Diamond Will Not Load Os XP

K9N2 Diamond has 2 hard drives installed on sata ports 5 & 6, Western Digital WD2500AAKS 250GB Raid 0. I want these for my boot drive & are setup in bios as boot drive so I canload windows XP SP3. Now on sata 1 & 2.  I have 2 WD1001FALS 1TB as raid 1.  I tried to install XP by booting to lite-on dvdrw. MSI website has nvraid drivers but are too large for a floppy disk and don't know which files to choose,  No instructions telling which files to use, root folder files or disk 1 or disk 2 files for floppy. I tried them all and they didn't work. I went to nvidia website and downloaded drivers from there and they did fit on floppy and they did load. I loaded both files after prompted to press F6. Windows started loading, found drives and selected drives on sata 5 & 6, raid 0 stripe. Windows formatted ntfs and started loading files but when it tried to boot but when it tried to copy the file NVGTS.EXE it stopped loading and it couldn't find NVGTS.EXE on the floppy or the system after it found them earlier but and couldn't even point it to the file and find it so I had to skip it and went on to the next one and it couldn't find any of the files on the floppy. So Slip-Streamed the drivers onto my xp installation disk,  then tried to load. It went further this time but when the system booted from windows for the first time it went into protection blue screen right as the XP scrolling bar is seen. I tried everything from turning off all other devices and disconnecting them but XP would not load. So I loaded PX on IDE 1 with maxtor 40gb drive and it worked on the 40pin IDE. I updated bios to V 1.2 and loaded all the drivers. and its working now but I bought this board to use raid 0 for speed as my boot drive on sata 5 & 6. It seems the board or the drivers are bad. I want to set it up like this;  A floppy,Zip 250, 3 DVDRW, Raid 1 Mirror with 2 300GB Maxtor Drives on sata 3 & 4, Raid 1 Mirror with 2 1TB Western Digital Drives on sata 1 & 2 and Raid 0 Stripe with 2 Western Digital 250GB on sata 5 & 6 for booting XP OS. Also I don't know what memory slots to use for dual channel, the manual is not clear here, do I use 1+3 or 1+2.
Please help someone!      And sorry for the last post...I just pasted from word not thinking. Been along day.

  • K9N2 Diamond Hangs pre-POST PCI-Bus not working

    Hello,
I've had a happily working system for over a eyar, but the other day I discovered that the display no longer worked.  So I rebooted and noted the diagnostic leds were RED-RED-GREEN-RED. After digging around and looking at page 2-26 of the K9N2 SLI Platinum's manual, it informed me that I was hanging at Bad memory.  So I tried without ram and with new 800 speed ram, and still the same leds.  Tried new ram in diffrent slots, no change.  Tried only 1 stick, no change. Tried with no ram, mo change. Tried removing all PCI-X & PCI cards and still nothing.  Removed all drive cables and still no change.  In the end, I only have my processor installed and it still hangs at start.
I reinstalled everything and tried another approach.  I used the onboard DVI graphics port and just bided my time.  Got the usual R-R-G-R lights and waited a few minutes.  Eventually I reached the BIOS.  I checked all the settings, it was detecting processor, ram, drives, all were fine. So I let the system eventually boot into win7 and arrived at the desktop.  I then discovered that the sound card was not operating either. This led me to believe that the entire PCI bus had failed.
Has anyone else come across this?  I take it that at this point that my only avenue for fix if to RMA the motherboard.
Here's machine specs for anyone interested.

Sugestion -> get a proper PSU to test ,thats vaporware. They look nice ,but they "stink" inside soldering and components wise. Not to say that the PSU is multirailed.I bet that the wires are also under gauged .
