K9N2 Diamond Mobo temperature

Hey everybody, I was just wondering what your experience with the K9N2 Diamond was on motherboard temperatures  ??? According to everest and the bios, I am always getting around high 80's celcius!!! I have always felt that this is way TOO HOT! Correct me if I am wrong or I am getting bad readings I hope! Please let me know your expereinces, thanks!

If you have such CPU temp you will be noticed with stability issues.
Check those:
•    Verify that CPU is not exceeding recommended temperature by checking the CPU temperature in the BIOS under PC Health status
•    Check CPU heatsink/fan is properly installed
•    Verify that any cover over the thermal interface on the bottom of the CPU HSF is removed
•    Verify that CPU HSF is recommended for your CPU
•    Check for CPU overclocking which may cause overheating
•    Check CPU Vcore voltage
•    Check computer case for proper ventilation

  • K9N2 Diamond - PWM Temperature Problems

On my setup my pwm temperature reading, under no load, is around 100C. At load it pushes 125C. My cpu temperature readings stay under about 35C. GPU temperature readings stay under 50C.
Any advice on how I can reduce the pwm temperature?
Only advice I can find with google is add another fan?
    Thanks for any help.

Here is one link I found particularly insightful
    http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/244894-29-temperature
From the site - PWM means Pulse Width Modulation. This generally refers to the voltage regulation around the CPU, which most often includes the mosfets.
PWM on the Abit IP35-Pro can go up to 100C before danger, but I wouldn't recommend anything over 60-70C or so. On the IP35-Pro, this is the area covered by the rainbow shaped heatsink.

  • K9N2 Diamond and Sata ports 5&6

This is on a K9N2 Diamond MOBO
So I installed 2 SSD drives in my computer.  I also have a Blu-Ray drive and 2 HDDs.  I've installed the SSDs to SATA ports 1&2 and my HDDs to 3&4.  My Blu-Ray drive is on SATA port 5.  In this configuration the Blu-Ray drive doesn't show up.  If I swap it with one of the HDDs, My 2 SSDs, Blu-Ray and one HDD show up, but the second HDD does not.
How can I get all of the components to show, or are SATA ports 5&6 there just to say you have them?  Thank you in advance.

Think I read this FAQ before, but it was too long and complicated to my eyes:
The Southbridge of this motherboard (ICH6)could support 1 IDE channel and 4SATA interface. There are three items about SATA devices settings in BIOS Setup (Integrated peripherals->SATA Devices Configuration):
a.Combined: The mode is a traditional mode which contains 2 IDE channel combined by one IDE channel and 2 SATA interface, and could connect 4 devices. If you choose this item, you could get other two items: PATA IDE Mode & SATA IDE Mode, PATA IDE Mode is used to set IDE as primary/secondary channel, and the SATA as secondary/primary channel automatically. It’s mentioned that if you choose PATA as the primary channel, SATA3&SATA4 will be as secondary, if you set PATA as secondary channel, SATA1&SATA2 will be used as primary channel. If you choose combined mode, you’ll get 2 IDE channels in Standard CMOS Features:
    Primary IDE Master
    Primary IDE Slave
    Secondary IDE Master
    Secondary IDE Slave
b.Enhanced: Choose this mode, you could use 1 PATA and 4 SATA, which could connect 6 devices, and you’ll get 4 IDE channels in Standard CMOS Features:
    Primary IDE Master
    Primary IDE Slave
    Secondary IDE Master
    Secondary IDE Slave
    Third IDE Master
    Third IDE Slave
    Fourth IDE Master
    Fourth IDE Slave
Indeed we could just use 3 channels of them, (the secondary channel has canceled according to the Intel spec), the primary channel is the IDE channel, the third and the forth channel are bridged by SATA.
c.SATA: It’s the mode shield the IDE, and just use the 4 SATA. Choose this mode, in Standard CMOS Feature, you’ll get 2 IDE channels:
    Primary IDE Master
    Primary IDE Slave
    Secondary IDE Master
    Secondary IDE Slave

  • K9N2 Diamond shuts down upon install of Windows

I am new to MSI and have started w/ an K9N2 Diamond. I have fully assembled the system and have run into a problem when starting a installation of Windows. I have no troubles entering BIOS and can stay there for any length of time. My problems start as soon as Windows tries to install (Windows 7). The white bar that goes from left to right gets about 90% across and then shuts the system down. I have tried this repeatedly w/ the same result. During the 5 - 6 attempts I was still able to try and boot from BIOS, still no problem with BIOS starts.
My system is comprised of the following:
    1 MSI K9N2 Diamond Mobo
    2 AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black
    3 8gb Kingston HyperX 800mhz
    4 Antec Truepower 750w
    5 XFX 9800 GXT+
6 WD 750gb HDD & WD 300gb HDD (only 750 connected for initial install)
    7 DVD/CD RW drive (SATA)
I have tried moving the SATA cables to different locations and switched HDDs, each w/ the same outcome. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It's not a restart. All but the processor and memory are equal to the system the PSU was pulled from! The PSU is only 6 months old. I took apart this build, which it was running fine.
ASUS A*N32 SLI Deluxe, 4gb 800mhz Kingston HyperX, 2 XFX 9800GTX+ in SLI, 2 HDD (same one in this build, again only using one), 2 dvd-rw/ cdrw drives, a zelman 939 series cpu cooler.
So in either case (ASUS or MSI build) I'm not over powering the PSU.
If I pull a couple sticks of ram could this make a difference?
    Thoughts?

  • K9N2 Diamond, Hybrid SLi problem

I have built a new system and am wanting to try out the Hybrid SLi functionality, but everything that I can think of doing to get it to work fails.
    Below is my setup
    K9N2 Diamond Mobo
    Ultra X3 1000W PSU
    9800 GTX+ VPU
    6 Gig DDR2 PC6400 RAM
    2 500GB Seagate SATA drives
    AMD X2 6000+ 3.1 Ghz Proc
    Vista Ultimate 64bit
The following is what has been done:
    1.  Installed 1 drive, CPU, 1 stick of RAM, DVD/RW, and PCI sound card
    2.  Made adjustments to BIOS for initial install
    3.  Installed Vista
    4.  Installed drivers for onboard hardware and soundcard
    5.  Shut down
    6.  Installed Video card, 2nd hard drive and remaining RAM
    7.  Turned PC back on and went into BIOS and turned on Hybrid SLI with internal as primary adapter
    8.  Installed 9800 GTX+ drivers and software
    9.  Installed Hybrid Sli driver
    10. Rebooted.
I still cannot get the Hybrid SLi program to start as it is not showing up in the system tray.  I looked at the properties and see that it shows both adapters installed, which it does.
Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?
    Thanks!

  • K9N2 Diamond dual SLI--will PCI_E1 and PCI_E4 still work?

I've got a K9N2 Diamond mobo. Two things: If I SLI two MSI N280GTXs in PCI_E2 and PCI_E3, will the remaining two PCIe slots still work? If so, do you think there will be room to leave my SCSI card in PCI_E1? The reason I ask about PCI_E4 is that the manual says, "If you intend to install two expansion cards...these three PCIe x16 lanes will configure to x16/ x16/ x0." That looks to me like the third one will be dead. Thanks.
P.S.--Sorry if I seemed a little harsh last time I was in here. I was trying to be funny and seem annoyed at the same time. And no fair changing your sig so it looks like I was calling you a moron for no reason. I gave up on running RAID and booting SCSI.
    P.P.S.--I don't use smileys.

  • K9N2 Diamond works with X2 3800+ but not Phenomii 940 with updated BIOS

    The system in question.
    MSI K9N2 Diamond Current BIOS 7375v 2.6, have also tried 2.5, 2.4, 2.3, 2.2
    AMD Phenom II 940
    2X 2Gb Corsair CM2X2048-6400C5
Antec True Power 750 Watt P.S.
    EVGA Nvidia GTX 260 GPU
    W.D. 300Gb HDD
This system is about 6 months old. When I put this system together for my brother in law, he ordered the parts with the intention of using his old mobo but didn't realize it didnt support the phenom chip he ordered. SO rather than waiting for another ordered part we took a trip to our local Comp USA. K9N2 Diamond said it was phenom 2 ready, yeah ok. Anyway after a few hours of going crazy trying to figure this out for him I found out it wasn't phenom2 capable till you updated the BIOS with an older CPU. Lucky for us I use an X2 3800+ in my machine. So I popped my chip in and ipdated his BIOS with the USB drive tool. Everything seemed right with the world then.
Now he brought the PC over for me to install Windows 7 64 bit for him. Did the install and was tracking down the few drivers Windows 7 missed and ran across Live update 4 for drivers and utilities. Should have known better but I went ahead and let it update the BIOS to 2.6. Sure enough, the CPU and GPU fans cycle on and off with no post. Check this post as his issues are identical to the ones I am experiencing. https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=133615.0 Now they never resolved this guys issue and it looks like he just RMA'd the board.
So I started narrowing down the possible issues. First thing I did was find the MSI USB Flash Tool again and put BIOS 2.2 back on with my 3800+ back in his machine. Machine worked with every BIOS version from 2.2 to 2.6 installed with USB tool with my 3800+ in his machine but would not post at all with all BIOS versions and his phenomII. Every time his CPU is in the machine, when the power is turned on the CPU and the GPU fans both go to max RPM then turn off over and over. Cleared CMOS multiple times. I know the clear was working when I put my 3800+ in it would state the time was reset in BIOS. Pulled everything out but one stick of RAM and same thing, posts with 3800+, nothing with phenomII. Tried the other stick of RAM although it passed both a memory test with USB tool and memtest with 3800+ installed. Same. Pulled CoolMax 750W PS from my machine and put it in his. Same issues. No post with PhenomII, posts with 3800+. Now this is with NOTHING but a stick of known good RAM, PS, Mobo, CPU and CPU fan. Using onboard video. All other drives, fans, pci devices, ect are disconnected.
So now I have 2 machines in my office all taken apart as I do not want to have to button my machine back up just to tear it back apart in case I have to do more to his Mobo with my CPU. I would rather not have to RMA the board if I do not have to like the guy in the link to the post I put up above.

I understand the need for future proofing mainboards as much as possible. What I am not ok with is the labeling on the box stating the board is PhenomII ready when in fact it isn't ready unless you have an older CPU that you can use to flash the BIOS to make it ready. Plus, if Live Update is the POS that everyone makes it out to be on the forums, why is it the first option on MSI's website for driver and BIOS downloads? MSI's USB Flash Tool is probably one of the easiest things I have ever used to update a BIOS, why not have that as the first option?
Anyway, I managed to talk a buddy into bringing his rig over to help me figure this out. Replaced his 965 with the 940 in question and it fired right up in an ASUS M4A785-M mobo. Tried the memory and PS in his rig as well just to triple check them and they were also good. Put his 965 in the K9N2 Diamond after making sure the BIOS was version 2.6 with the 3800+ and did not fire up with his 965 in the socket.
    So a quick recap.
940 and 965 PhenomII will not post in the K9N2 Diamond but the 3800+ will.
All three post in the M4A785
tested memory by using only the slot closest to CPU in K9N2 on stick at a time. Both sticks work in the K9 with the 3800+ and both sticks work in the M4A785 with all three CPU's.
have tried every BIOS version from 2.2 to 2.6 using the MSI USB Flash Tool with the 3800+ in the K9N2.
Have cleared CMOS multiple times with the power cord out and holding down the On/Off switch for 20 seconds to discharge the caps before clearing. After every clear the next successful post says that the BIOS time needs to be updated.
P.S. works on three different rigs.
Any ideas or suggestions? If I must RMA than I must. But it works with the 3800+ so there has to be something firmware wise that is causing this.

  • Issue with Patriot Ram Installation on K9N2 Diamond

I'm trying to install a pair of 1gb 667MHz Patriot Extreme Performance Ram  in dual channel mode. The manual states to place them in dimms 0 & 1 (Green); I ended up placing them in dimms 0 & 2 after no boot resultled, thus the ram is running in single channel mode. I manually adjusted the timings to factory 4-4-4-12 & the voltage to 1.8 but to no success. I went to the official website of MSI and found only Buffalo, Crucial, Mushkin, Corsair, OCZ and Kingston were listed as qualified vendors. I went to the Crucial website and found a pair of 800 MHz of 2 x 2gb Ballistix which were compatible to my mobo according to their memory configurator. Is there someone out there who got their K9N2 Diamond to work with ram that's not listed on MSI's certified vendors?(In dual-channel mode) I checked with cpu-z and noticed that my ram frequency was 325 MHz; I believe it's supposed to read 333 MHz. I'm hoping that a future update for my bios would solve this problem...

  • K9n2 Diamond having trouble with more than one stick of ram

Hi there. Thanks for reading. My setup is as follows
    WIN-500xspx 500W PSU
    Geforce 9600 GSO
    7750 BE Kuma
    XP 64bit
    k9n2 diamond w/ BIOS 2.3
    2GB Mushkin HP2-6400 (2x1GB)
I just got the board two days ago and got everything set up, but I've been having some trouble with my ram. Whenever I have more than one stick of ram, it fails to post, unless I clear the cmos before I power on. Then, it will give me the option to load the bios or run on default settings. If I run on default, it will boot up fine and work well for about 5 minutes. Then it will shut off and not post until I've cleared the cmos again. So, I figured I had an incompatibility issue with the ram. So I tried another set, the Crucial Ballistix BL1286AA1065.8FEF with the same results. Next I went with the Rendition RM12864AA800 with the same results. I tested each stick individually and they're all good. Each slot works fine as well. I switched the old mobo back and all was well. The only thing left is the PSU but I don't think thats the problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Its the PSU, go for better one with strong single rail like Corsair VX,TX Series.

  • K9n2 diamond issue

Hi, i have a k9n2 diamond motherboard with latest bios and today it cannot recognize any hard disk....
i tried all the settings (ide, raid, ahci modes), fail safe & optimal bios settings, reflash the bios from startup disk but didn't work...
i have 4 disks and change the sata cables too
so i guess its hardware fail...
my cpu is phenom II x4 3.0Ghz 940
newer motherboards from msi (am3 & am3+) support phenom II x4 3.0Ghz but in cpu support list have only 945 not 940....
will these motherboards support my cpu or i need new one?

"AM3 processors work on AM2+ motherboards due to the presence of both the DDR2 and DDR3 memory controllers on the processor
AM2+ processors do not work on AM3 motherboards due to the processor's lack of a DDR3 memory controller
The pin configuration of the AM2+ socket (940 pins)[2] is mechanically different from the AM3 socket (941 pins)"
phenom II 945 is AM3 so no problems but phenom II 940 is AM2+ and will not work on AM3 & AM3+ mobos^^

  • K9N2 DIAMOND - Wrong DRIVER VERSION on CD and WEBSITE????

The driver version found in CD and in MSI website for K9N2 Diamond are correct?
That MOBO in 780a SLI and, as far as I know,  the correct driver version is the 15.26 found in nVidia driver site.
MSI provide 18.11 in CD and in WEB site as well but those are referred to a different chipset, isn’t it?
    Thank you!
    Marco

That's the question ..... using the CD driver (18.11) I had a lot of problems (lack of performance and stability), now after the 15.26 installation everything seems working fine....

  • K9N2 Diamond and Radeon HD 4890 Crossfire

Hey guys.  Just your general noob question here.  My mobo is a K9N2 Diamond SLI.  It has support for 3-way SLI and as far as I can tell, the Nvida based chipsets don't support Radeon XFire.  I was just wondering, though, does the board support the use of, say, a Radeon HD 4870x2 card?  I was hoping maybe it would since it's one card with 2 onboard GPUs, but just wanted to make sure it does.  I'm using an Nvidia GPU right now, but I've always like the ATIs better.

OK, this is back to what Bas said.  He informed me that Crossfire works on any board. I've installed two 4890s on my K9N2 Diamond and connected the appropriate power connectors and crossfire ribbons.  When my computer loads up, it sees both cards, but it does not recognize it as crossfire.  Neither does CCC.  Is it possible that the K9N2 won't run Crossfire setups (I mean, it is an SLI board and not AMD).

  • K9n2 diamond

can anyone help me. I finally got my K9n2 diamond working. and im trying to adjust the dram setting so I can set it at 1066. I am not used to the bios for an MSI board. it boots just fine if i leave everything in auto but I have 1066 ram that this board can use and i cant seem to get it to set correctly. I did go to the timings and tried to adjust that but my board recognizes it as 800 MGHS. I need to know how i manually set those important features so i can get this going. IF anyone has a guide or something I would really be appreciative.

Once done proceed with >>Clear CMOS Guide<<
    Then try to boot.
