K9N2 Diamond room occupied by sound card

I am interested in buying this new MSI technological masterpiece, K9N2 Diamond.
But one thing still bugs Me. The Creative® SB X-Fi Xtreme H/W Audio Card (MS-4132) would
be used underneath the VGA inside the PC case. My VGA is MSI NX8800GT Zilent 1G and as you know
or as you can see from MSI's web site in case if you didn't knew, it has very big cooler, almost as
big as another VGA. If the sound card is directly underneath the VGA in the PC case I think that it will be very difficult
for the Zalman cooler to do its job. I am not the technical support's specialist and that is why I am
posting the question :
Will My VGA NX8800GT Zilent 1G work with no problems at all with the K9N2 Diamond,
considering the fact that the sound card would be placed directly underneath the
VGA in the PC case ?
on this forum.
I hope I will receive direct answer from MSI's Technical Support team.

Shouldn't be a problem

    Hi Tomween,
Based on the information posted, the Creative X-Fi Xtreme H/W Audio Card MSI Edition is an OEM product. These OEM sound cards are often customized for the motherboard manufacturer who ships or installs them, therefore the manufacturer in this case, MSI should be the primary contact for support and warranty issues.

Have you tried installing the drivers from the MSI website?
    The drivers are available >>here<<.
Also, make sure your motherboard drivers are installed properly and that there are no yellow exclamation marks in device manager as that would also explain why the sound card drivers won't install.

  • P6N Diamond - Creative Sound Card / Windows 7

    Hello everyone,
Couldn't find anyone else with a similar issue so figured I'd post here. I'm using a P6N Diamond (obviously) and here's the issue:
Originally this PC had Windows XP installed. When I upgrade to Windows 7 x64 Pro(1-2 months ago), my computer became unable to recognize the integrated Creative sound card. I've tried the following:
1.) Using provided driver discs (Using Vista x64 drivers, closest match)
2.) Downloading various Creative programs, drivers, etc. to add drivers
3.) Checked MSI's site and downloaded various drivers, updates etc.
None of the following worked. I primarly use a USB headset, which works perfectly. However, I'd like to be able to use speakers as well (used to be able to do it when Windows found my soundcard).
Anyone have any ideas for resolving this? I really appreciate any help, thanks!

If I follow you correctly, this problem only starts after you have upgraded to Windows 7, right? If that is the case, it is obviously a driver issue. Though you have tried many drivers and it seems that they are not the right ones. What you can do is to try contact MSI support and see if they can help you.

  • K9N Diamond integrated sound card issue (XP64)

I´m having problems with the integrated sound card on my K9N Diamond MB,i cant seem to get the sound to work.
I couldnt use the drivers that came with the MB cause XP64 doesnt read the disc, so i tried the downloadable drivers from this site. To make sure it wasnt the speakers i´ve plugged in headphones in the line-out (green) slot and it still wont work.
And i cant install a separate card cause i use SLI GeForce 7900GTX and they take up pretty much all the space on the board. And i cant go with XP-pro either.

I did, said it found no compatible device for the drivers. Checked in the Mainboard manual for the exact brand of the card.
XP appears to identify the card in every way i´ve checked, and i´ve double checked the volume controls so that nothing is on mute just to be sure. There´s just no sound coming out.
download correct drivers for XP 64 (http://download.msi.com.tw/support/dvr_exe/mbd_dvr/Creative_Audigy_Drivers.zip)
ensure your onboard sound is enabled in BIOS.
install it. ensure its installed propery (in device manager--->multimedia device)
configure your speakers to correct configuration, ensure your speakers is connected property.
ensure in mixer settings "digital output only" is uncheked.
if you wana install drivers from creative: after download correct drivers pack. right click on it and select extract to xxxx folder. then update it manually.

  • K9N2 Diamond and Xtreme Audio Card

The sound card that came with this board came with a driver/program CD. I've followed directions and ran the installation, but when I click on the Audio Console Launcher to configure it, I get a warning that, "The current selected audio device is not supported by the application. Do you want to select another audio device now?"
    If I click "NO"...thats it.
If I click "YES", I get another warning saying, "The Creative Audio Device Selection module cannot be launched. The module may be missing from your system. You may need to reinstall your application."
If I run the CD again, to reinstall the so-called module, I still run into the same problem.
The problem really is I can't use my headset w/mic for online gaming. Headset shows up in the Playback Devices but there is no "configure" option--greyed out.
What seems to be the malfunction?

I think he have eaxtly same probelm some i has whit the sound card .

  • K9n2 diamond pcix sound sound

hi, sorry if this sounds daft. does the included sound card fit in the pci-x x1 slot (the one that means it's tight against my 8800gtx internal exhaust?) i tried it in the bottom sli slot but it didnt work, so i fitted my old se card to the pci slot
the 8800gtx kicks a load of heat out and i would imagine the vga or sound card very comfortable in this enviroment?
    or did i miss something

Stu was seconds before me, but in words: No.
And I think a sound card can take - what can it be - 40-45C of hot air. Please remember that the impact of/expelled warm air is very "thin" or dissepated(?).
Second addition: If you have a good exhaust fan the hot air will go out that way. The PSU fan should help, too. Do not have a wall for less than ~half a meter behind these fans. It is quite important to have a clear path for the hot air to go out.

  • K9N2 Diamond refuses to P.O.S.T...

    Greetings,
I'm in a bit of a predicament and was wondering if anybody has some ideas as to the solution to the problem I am about to present.
Let me start with a little background:
I built this system around 2 years ago and haven't had many problems with it. I've reformatted numerous times, the most recent being last month. About a week or two ago
I tried to play a .wmv file via Windows Media Player. My system hung during program execution and I was forced to manually power off my computer (in other words, I held
the power button for five seconds). When I powered the system back on it failed to P.O.S.T.
Now, during a normal start-up a number of things happen:
A.) The computer powers on, fans start whurring, lights from the K9N2's on-board LED's will flash between green and red (this is important), and finally power is fed to my I/O devices.
B.) The mainboard then beeps (I cannot remember the beep pattern), all the on-board LED's are green, my display shows my BIO's screen, and the system then continues it operations before loading the Operating System.
C.) Windows is then loaded and I have an operational computer. Hurray.
Here is what happens as of now:
A.) The computer powers on, fans star whurring, lights from the K9N2'S on-board LED's will flash for what appears to be two cycles (basically the LED's go through two patterns) and then I hear a long beep followed by two short beeps. (Beeeeeeepp.... Beep. Beep.) The LED pattern stays as follows: RED, RED, RED, GREEN.
No power is fed to my I/O devices and I receive no display. The computer basically hangs. One thing I feel I should mention is that I was able to get the computer to start again by clearing the CMOS but this strategy will not work anymore. Note: this process involved restarting the computer countless times, clearing the CMOS, starting the computer and seeing if it would P.O.S.T, if it did not, I repeated the process. It was not as if I simply cleared the CMOS and the computer worked instantly. I had to do it several times.
Now it seems no matter what I do the system refuses to P.O.S.T. My computer specs are listed at the bottom of this thread. If you felt something was not clear or you feel you need more information, please let me know and I will be glad to explain. I look forward to working with anyone who is willing to help me tackle this problem.
    Take care,
    pr3ddd

So.... Problem solved. Looks like it was the graphics card. When I got the almost normal boot I realized that the only reason I had: GREEN, RED, GREEN, GREEN LED's was because the system was waiting for me to load the default values for the CMOS but since I didn't have any display I couldn't see that. So I replaced my HDMI cable with a VGA cable and the system reverted to the previous RED, RED, RED, GREEN state. At that point, I took out the graphics card, used the onboard video and wa-la. Thank you Mike. I'd have never thought to reseat the graphics card. Looks like no games for a while... Oh well.

  • K9N2 Diamond Not Recognizing SATA DVD Rom

I just though I would try to post here to see if anyone had any ideas as to what might be the cause or if I should just RMA the board and hope it gets resolved.
To sum it up I have a PC that doesn't always like to reboot (not a problem really as I don't like to reboot it except for when getting updates) and will not recognize the DVD drive plugged into the SATA ports.  Originally I thought it may have just been a flaky optical drive as it worked long enough for me to get the OS installed and everything set up back in late June early July.  However for some reason Windows XP Pro x64 and the BIOS stopped recognizing the optical drive.  Since I thought it might have just been a flaky drive I didn't worry about it too much as I had everything set up - was just annoying that I couldn't watch DVDs (but I could just go to the other room to do that so not biggie).  On Saturday I bought a new DVD drive (one that could play Blue Ray disks figuring since I have my monitor hooked up through an HDMI cable why not also have the capability to play Blue Ray disks) and the same problem exists.  The BIOS will on a rare occasion actually recognize the DVD drive however as soon as it reboots again it will not and even when it did recognize the DVD drive by the time Windows loaded up it didn't pick up on it.
I have tried all four SATA ports in combination with my SATA hard drive (and alternating between six different SATA cables too) but a vast majority of the time if I have both the hard drive and DVD drive plugged in the PC will not boot up - it just seems to hang (and sometimes doesn't want to let me into the BIOS).

    I haven't tested with a third DVD drive simply because I don't have a third :(
The original DVD drive (an OEM Sony Optiarc Beige 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 12X DVD+R DL 24X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA DVD/CD Rewritable Drive - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118033) was what was being used while I was installing everything and was the drive that I was noticing wasn't always showing up in Windows Explorer (well more often than not wasn't appearing, but it seemed to last long enough to get all the initial installations done and I really don't used the ROMs much past that).  At the time I thought it might have been that the drive just went flaky and ignored it because I didn't use it.
The odd thing was it was also causing headaches when restarts were required for the same reason - the PC would freeze up on the motherboard splash screen (lack of a better term presently) where it normally does the POST tests (I think I am remembering that correctly .... when all the beeps takes place) so I unhooked the SATA connection to the motherboard for the drive and then the PC would actually reboot normally without the hanging.  This made me also think it was the drive causing problems.
I've been running without any optical drive hooked up for a couple months now, but with getting my copy of Windows 7 I was getting ready to install that and picked up what I thought was the needed fix in a new DVD drive however when hooking it up the same problem started up again.  This time when trying to figure out a setting that actually worked I rotated through all six of my SATA cables (motherboard came with extras ) and rotated them through all four normal SATA slots.  Well actually I tied all six slots but it didn't seem like the BIOS wanted to pick up on slots five or six (the E-SATA if I recall correctly) as having devices (when I had the HDD and DVD Drive in slots five and six it said it couldn't find a bootable device).
I'm at work now so I can't double check in the BIOS but I am pretty sure it is just set for SATA since I don't use RAID or AHCI - I'll check again on this when I get home though.
The oddest thing about the whole thing (to me at least) is the lack of consistency with the BIOS recognizing the devices (well the DVD drive anyways).  I would have thought that if it recognized the device (which it has from time to time) that it would keep on recognizing it, but it seems to want to forget that it did recognize it even after it did by the time Windows loads up.
It does not seem to have any problems when only the SATA HDD is hooked up though.
If it really is the MB being flaky I think I would only have four options:
    1)  Buy a SATA PCI controller card and see if I can get things up and running that way - though this wouldn't solve the problem if the motherboard is flaking out and not 100% sure what it would do for installing new OS quite yet .... not to mention be a little odd when there are 5 other open SATA ports on the motherboard)
    2)  RMA the motherboard and hope a replacement/fix can be made and be without a PC for the duration
    3)  Not upgrade to Windows 7 and sit on that upgrade till whenever and also have a new expensive paperweight (if I take the ROM out of the PC)
    4)  Get a new MB .... really don't want to pick this one since I built the thing tail end of June/beginning of July (just was slowly ordering the parts for longer than that .... I really need to stop doing that - kills possible return chances)
Of course I can also hope it is something else that I am just missing and that none of those are needed.  I actually built my setup based on what a friend of mine has since his is/was pretty solid.

  • K9N2 Diamond Hangs pre-POST PCI-Bus not working

    Hello,
I've had a happily working system for over a eyar, but the other day I discovered that the display no longer worked.  So I rebooted and noted the diagnostic leds were RED-RED-GREEN-RED. After digging around and looking at page 2-26 of the K9N2 SLI Platinum's manual, it informed me that I was hanging at Bad memory.  So I tried without ram and with new 800 speed ram, and still the same leds.  Tried new ram in diffrent slots, no change.  Tried only 1 stick, no change. Tried with no ram, mo change. Tried removing all PCI-X & PCI cards and still nothing.  Removed all drive cables and still no change.  In the end, I only have my processor installed and it still hangs at start.
I reinstalled everything and tried another approach.  I used the onboard DVI graphics port and just bided my time.  Got the usual R-R-G-R lights and waited a few minutes.  Eventually I reached the BIOS.  I checked all the settings, it was detecting processor, ram, drives, all were fine. So I let the system eventually boot into win7 and arrived at the desktop.  I then discovered that the sound card was not operating either. This led me to believe that the entire PCI bus had failed.
Has anyone else come across this?  I take it that at this point that my only avenue for fix if to RMA the motherboard.
Here's machine specs for anyone interested.

  • K9N2 Diamond Problems

I was going to buy this board (MSI K9N2 Diamond) but it seems there are way too many issue's with it.  Sound Drivers, 9950be compatibility using shipped bios, SLi, different video cards etc and other compatibility issue's. Problems going back to release and there is only one bios update! People using having to use Beta Bios?  :huh:Have all these problems been fixed by MSI? Or will I have the same issue's if I buy the K9N2 Diamond now with a 9950be, Corsair Twinx 2x4096-8500c5df?  I have had MSI's in the past wilt np but it sounds horrible if you buy this board. I don't care about SLi. Just want this board for all the other reason. Mainly can I use it with an Nvidia main card in 1st PCI-e x16, and an ATI AIW in the 2nd or 3rd PCI-e x16. Hope someone can help me. Has anyone bought this board and installed with this setup with no problems...... Out of box and no problems??? Everything working correctly? I'm scared to buy it!

    http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=prodcpu2&prod_no=1438&maincat_no=1#menu
    The 9950 is supported.
Other then that, I don't see that many issues here in the forum with that board.
But if you are that worried, why not go with an MSI ATI chipset board?

  • K9n2 Diamond beep code

Does the K9N2 diamond have a built in speaker , if not would hooking up an external speaker of the sound card work for the beep code?

    Quote
By the way, motherboards, well most, don't have an attached speaker any longer(haven't for many, many years).
You're right, they never used to, but there seemed to be a short phase a few years back, when many boards had a built-in 'onboard' buzzer. Then for some reason, they stopped them!

  • K9N2 Diamond, Hybrid SLi problem

I have built a new system and am wanting to try out the Hybrid SLi functionality, but everything that I can think of doing to get it to work fails.

    6 Gig DDR2 PC6400 RAM
    2 500GB Seagate SATA drives
    AMD X2 6000+ 3.1 Ghz Proc
    Vista Ultimate 64bit
The following is what has been done:
    1.  Installed 1 drive, CPU, 1 stick of RAM, DVD/RW, and PCI sound card
    2.  Made adjustments to BIOS for initial install
    3.  Installed Vista
    4.  Installed drivers for onboard hardware and soundcard
    5.  Shut down
    6.  Installed Video card, 2nd hard drive and remaining RAM
    7.  Turned PC back on and went into BIOS and turned on Hybrid SLI with internal as primary adapter
    8.  Installed 9800 GTX+ drivers and software
    9.  Installed Hybrid Sli driver
    10. Rebooted.
I still cannot get the Hybrid SLi program to start as it is not showing up in the system tray.  I looked at the properties and see that it shows both adapters installed, which it does.
Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

  • K9N2 Diamond dual SLI--will PCI_E1 and PCI_E4 still work?

I've got a K9N2 Diamond mobo. Two things: If I SLI two MSI N280GTXs in PCI_E2 and PCI_E3, will the remaining two PCIe slots still work? If so, do you think there will be room to leave my SCSI card in PCI_E1? The reason I ask about PCI_E4 is that the manual says, "If you intend to install two expansion cards...these three PCIe x16 lanes will configure to x16/ x16/ x0." That looks to me like the third one will be dead. Thanks.
P.S.--Sorry if I seemed a little harsh last time I was in here. I was trying to be funny and seem annoyed at the same time. And no fair changing your sig so it looks like I was calling you a moron for no reason. I gave up on running RAID and booting SCSI.

  • Sound card fails when modem taken out- no longer wo

My OS is Windows 98 First Edition.
I recently replaced an internal, PCI slot LT Winmodem and put in a USR internal, ISA slot modem. I didn't follow exact instructions for this sort of change but the Creative website says that one of their sound cards can fail to work when some piece of hardware is changed. I took out my sound card and see that it only says "Ensoniq" on it and doesn't have any of the usual Creative ID markings on it. [My software to identify hardware says it's a "Creative Sound Blaster Audio PCI 64V" sound card. Another hardware-identifying app I have calls it "Creative SB PCI 28 (Ensoniq ES37) sound card".]
When I want to listen to a webcast or play any WAV or MID file, I get:
"MPlayer2 (Windows Media Player, v. 6.4.07.24) has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. MPLayer2 caused an invalid page fault in module Kernel32.dll at
05f:bff9dba7." [Same message when I use Real Player.]
At this same time, the following message appears: "Windows Media Player error: Can't play back the audio stream: no audio hardware is available, or the hardware is not responding. Error=80040256."
I got this Creative sound card back in June 999 when I got the computer that contains it. It's worked fine up 'til the recent modem change.
In an attempt to fix this problem, I removed all entries and driver files for it, deleted a bunch of files that Creative says should be deleted for such a problem. I turned off the computer and took out the sound card and put it into another PCI slot. Then when I turned the computer back on, Windows says it found new hardware and wanted to install software for it. But I used the hardware drivers CD I got with the computer and installed the Creative files for my sound card. But this didn't help: I still cannot play any sounds.
The sound card fits firmly and squarely into the PCI slot.
What is the correct order of steps to take in order to end this problem and restore to the sound card the ability to produce sounds? I'm still annoyed by the error message due to the sound card apparently causing some problem - by use of Windows Media Player or RealPlayer - with Kernel32.dll?
Would getting the latest driver files from Creative's website fix this or does it sound like something else is wrong?
[My OS is Windows 98 First Edition.]
    Thanks

I doubt newer drivers would help this.
I'd suggest checking your IRQ settings a conflict (sharing), particularly between the new modem and the soundcard. You can determine the resources using device manager, but using the System Information tool isn't quite as tedious.
Do you have another PCI slot to try?

I'm not at home now (so I can't give here in this forum the best of info right now) but I have looked at IRQ settings several times when at home. I know I've seen the Sound Blaster/Ensoniq sound card holding the same IRQ as my USB port. [Both are on IRQ 0 along with some "computer steering" entry which I've read is OK to be with any hardware item's IRQ.] [I've never used my USB port. Perhaps I can just disable it and thereby free up the IRQ just for the sound card. Does this sound reasonable to do?]
I'll report back here later on what I was able to do with the IRQs and if any change there helped. [Should I take out the card and put it into some other PCI slot? I have 4 PCI slots, one being occupied by the sound card.]
    Thanks for your help
