K9N2 Diamond & SLI Boot problem

Hello. I have a boot problem in my mb. My sli config is with 2 Gigabyte 8800 GT. I can enter windows and sli works fine. The problem is that i only have image in windows. I can't see post, so i can't access bios. Only when windows starts i get image. Tried the cards in a MSI K8N SLI Platinum and i had no problem. Image since i turn on computer. The cards in solo show image like in the MSI K8N. In bios i have the Hybrid SLI disabled, tried disable on-chip VGA but the pc won't boot. The customer service told me to update bios to version 2.3. I think that might be a bios beta version, i only know 2.1. There is a v2.2 to support the AM3 cpu's. Help !!

try to change the battery on your motherboard to see if it help. I believe that your battery of the motherboard is so weak so it won't able to show the POST.
The battery on the mainboard only powers the CMOS so it can store the BIOS settings. If the battery is failing, it will still start up, but BIOS settings will need to be re-set.

We had a unit do the same thing that you are talking about here. I found after two days of test that it was the Heatsink. It had the grease but it was not seated just right. When I redid the Heat sink the issue went away. I had to clean them both and then surface the Heatsink with 600 grt paper.
When I put it back together it worked fine.
I can't say that this is it, what is wrong with yours but it does and is doing the same things that we had going on with us.
You might check this and see. Because it would not boot no matter what we did. And it will heat up and trip out in a second.
And this is after the machine had run playing games for a week or so. I thinkt he Heat sink warped from the heat. I have never seen one do this before but I guess it could happen. Any way it fixed ours.
Do You mean the CPU heatsink, or GPU heatsink? -
By the way, who wants to guess if I was blessed or not - and if buying a new $150+ PSU really helped
Please, any more help would be great

  • K9N2 Diamond RAM & Boot Issues

Computer as of the current state it is being used:

    AMD Athlon AM2 FX 4600+ 2.4GhZ (Asaka Bubblepump Heatsink+Fan)
    2GhZ PC26400 800mhz DDR2 Elixir RAM
    500GB WD SATAII HDD
EVGA Nvidia GTX 280 1GB RAM
    24x HP DVDRW
    Latest Bios Ami 2.1
That's the basics of the machine. I have been trying to use OCZ's SLI Ready RAM (1066), High Gold Performance RAM(800) and additional Elixir(800) DIMMS.
The problem I encounter is one dimm of any 1GB or 2GB stick will work. If I add additional RAM modules the system will hang. The second light is green the other 3 are red.
I have tried manual clock adjustments, voltage changes, swapping the Dimms in to various slots. I have tried mixed and unmixed combinations. Any ideas anyone?

    Ram being used is 2kits (4x1gb) of : http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/memory/ocz_ddr2_pc2_8500_sli_ready_edition_dual_channel
Memory module setups as follows; Y=Dimm in slot. N=Slot empty.
    Dimm 1  // Dimm 2 // Dimm 3 // Dimm 4
    Y /N / Y/ N - System runs with Single Channel 800Mhz 2GB Memory
    Y /Y /N/N - System fails to boot. R/G/R/R LEDs.
    N/N/ Y/Y - System fails to boot. R/G/R/R LEDs.
Y/Y Y/N - System boots, recognises 3GB of RAM. Vista loading screen fails. System does not run.
    N/N Y/Y - System fails to boot. R/G/R/R LEDs.
    Y/Y Y/Y - System fails to boot. R/G/R/R LEDs.
I'm sure by now you see a pattern in using this? I've used another 2GB kit of OCZ Gold RAM and the same combination runs. The elixir kit runs exactly the same as the 4GB SLI combination.
SLI Ready also causes the system not to boot in any combination on the SLI Ready EPP RAM.
When the system boots with 2GB Ram, the beeps as follows are ... two beeps evenly spaced apart. Short while, Two beeps, shortly after a string of around 3 close beeps together.
Anyone else experienced this or can help?
    "Ram being used is 2kits (4x1gb) of : http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/memory/ocz_ddr2_pc2_8500_sli_ready_edition_dual_channel"
    Why you list Elexir in a 1st reply then? {2GhZ PC26400 800mhz DDR2 Elixir RAM}
"When the system boots with 2GB Ram, the beeps as follows are ... two beeps evenly spaced apart. Short while, Two beeps, shortly after a string of around 3 close beeps together."
That probably regular beeps when you have USB device attached.
Test each two kits alone 1st, use 1st two DIMM's close to the CPU socket, with >>Memtest86<<
Also bump memory vcore to OCZ recommendation 2.1V
If you trying to use all four sticks together{2xkits}, reduce memory frequency{apply lower memory index in BIOS{667} and use 2T.

  • K9N2 Diamond SLI - How-to

Hey there everyone: I decided to go a little nuts and try to build a hell of a rig. BUT I have come across some difficulties.
First Here is what I have
    [EDIT: forgot the CPU]
    AMD Phenom 9850 Black Edition
    Thermaltake V1 cooling [/Edit]
    Antec 900 Case
    MSI K9N2 Diamond Board
    4x2GB Mushkin DDR 1066 ram
    3x 750GB Samsung Sata 300 harddrives
    3x BFG 8800GTX 768MB Video cards
    1000 watt Antec Powersupply
    2x Samsung DVD burner
The problem here, in SLI (2 or 3 way) I get no video. when I take out all but 1 card, I get video, can make changes, but cannot disable the integrated Graphics card (upon boot the system hangs after memory count and before harddrive detection) The Harddrives I intend to run in raid 5.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks James.

Each time the system fails to boot; I reset(clear) the bios and load my known good values for a single card.
SLI-Ready memory - disabled (Just because it is known good basic config - during SLI testing, I have tried both disabled and enabled)
On-Chip VGA is enabled as with 1 card it will not boot with that disabled (this is tested repeatedly with the same results: Post OK, then when It should be detecting harddrives, it just sits there)
Hybrid SLI - also enabled as a function of the above (or auto, cant remember right now)
Primary Graphics adapter is set to PCI express slot.
The power connections are all in place - 8 pin motherboard additional power, all 6 6pin video power, etc.
The motherboard diagnostic lights all go green eventually, which tells me it likes something, however I never get a video signal to the monitor
BTW the monitor is a Viewsonic 22" LCD (don't know if it makes a difference)
This is not my first build - but it is my first SLI build, and I am thinking that there may be more to the SLI than I am thinking: EX. will I see a display during the entire boot sequence? if not, then that is partly to blame. I have not installed the OS yet (Vista 64 and Linux) and if it won't activate the display until the OS is loaded I just need to be sure that is whats going on... Then I will simply pull 2 of the cards, install the OS's and then put them back in.

  • K9N2 Diamond X-FI Problems

    PC: Windows 7 32 bit, Phenom II x6 1090T, 4g corsair xms2, 9800gt, corsair psu tx650W
Can't change Mode, it stays always on Entertainment, can't change speaker configuration, it's on auto detect always. In XP everything worked fine. Recently tried with some realtek(!!!!) drivers, and can only switch between 5.1 and output for headphones. If I plug something to the extra jack (on the case, with the extra output cable from the x-fi card) my OS crashes for about 1 minute until it realizes what happens, then adds a extra 'headphone' button in my console cu launcher.
3D works on windows first run, but if i change it once (remove the tick) a restart is needed to work again.
I've seen other threads for those problems here and in creative labs forums and no one seems to care about those end-user problems.

Hi, Guys I hope you can help, I recently brought another video card for my k9s2 diamond. my first card is a msi 9600 gso and my second card is a 9600 EVGA gso same memory on both the evga has a clock speed of 550 and the MSI has a clock speed of 600. I have read from Nvidia that these would work together even though they are different brands.  In the control panel it saids I have 2 9600 gso cards or adapters. I have switched places with both cards but when i put in the evga it saids cannot install drivers contact your manufacturer. I still get a screen but the resolution is low. I also uninstalled and reinstalled Nvidia drivers. But no SLi
    My system is as follows
    MSI k9n2 diamond
750 PC Power and cooling sli power supply
2 gigs of patriot ram at 1066

Why would my computer keep running even though i have told it to shut down. It seems to work fine with the original card The MSI one. Like i said control panel shows i have two video cards. Is there something else i have to download besides the gforce drivers 178.24 like Ntune or something?

  • K9N2 (MS-7374) Boot Problem - 8 beeps, hangs on processor initialization

Hello everyone. I've been looking through posts on this forum and attempting to resolve this issue for a while now. Before I go and make potentially expensive purchases, I'd like some thoughts.
I have a K9N2 (MS-7374) motherboard. I had done some maintenance on the system, primarily adding new HDDs. Everything was running fine. I did notice that, after a while, a white LED had come on (which indicates that the 12v power connection was not properly connected, though I wasn't aware at the time). The case was open during this time. I decided to disconnect the old HDDs and close it up.
After doing so, I noticed that it wouldn't boot. It'd just hang there, 4 red LEDs. I remembered this happening before, which was due to the video card not receiving enough power. So I checked the connection and the white LED went off. I attempted to boot. The other LEDs flashed briefly (to indicate that the system was on, the 4 LED indicators, PCI, etc), then it immediately shut off and returned to the standby state, as indicated by the orange LED in the lower-right hand corner.
I removed the 12v connector and noticed that one of the pins on the cable that connected the motherboard to the power supply was staring to come out. I pushed it back into place and plugged it back in. I went to boot the system and found another problem. It would hang on "Processor Initialization", as indicated by RGGR on the LEDs, and beep a total of 8 times (short). The 8 sounds like 2 short beeps, followed by a very short pause, followed by 6 more short beeps.
So, here's what I tried after reading a number of resources, including these forums:
Disconnected everything except for the CPU, memory and video card. No change.
Checked the PCIe video card and its power connections. Replaced it with an old PCI video card. Still had the same issue.
Removed the RAM. Resulted in 3 long beeps. Re-added a single stick. Same problem as before. Repeated for each of the other three sticks individually. No change.
Removed the motherboard from the case, in case of a short. Still same issue.
The only thing I haven't tried is a new power supply, because I don't have any spares. I wanted some input before I go buy one. I'm also concerned by the two beeps, pause, then six additional. Is that indicative of two failures, or can I safely assume it intended to be 8 beeps?
    Thanks for any help

  • P7N Diamond first boot problems!

    Hey guys
I have just installed my new MSI P7N Diamond mobo into my computer, but the thing won't boot !
All the stuff i had in my system worked fine with the old mobo, so it should also run fine here, but sadly it doesn't :/
    Here's the specs:
    E8500
    MSI P7N Diamond
    2x2 gb Mushkin Redline
    320Gb seagate HDD
    2x8800GT
I have tried to reset the CMOS and taking the batterie out, no succes..
    Please help !
    /Razbojnik
    PS. Merry Christmas ^^

Well, I have sent my GFX to RMA, I think that was the problem.
I tried to use the second gfx as my primary card, but it wouldn't boot, so I thought it was broke..
The strange thing was that it worked fine with my old motherboard (Asus P5N32-E SLI)..
Still haven't got any info on my RMA status, but I believe I'll have it back again in a week or two..
While I'm writing here, I should point out, or acctually ask a question.. I had some system freezes and some BSOD (about 5 times in the last month).. I think the BSOD thing is cleared and that it was a Vista thing, but my system stille freezes sometimes when I watch movies, or play games on my com.. Still haven't found the cause  :/

  • K8N Diamond Plus boot problems

I just built a new computer and it was working fine for about a month.  Then one morning when I started it up it wouldn't turn on.  The front LED's turn on, and the fans all start, but nothing ever shows up on the screen.  The set of four lights on the back show  R R
                                                                                                    G G
Nothing has changed since the pc was working fine.  I haven't changed any bios settings or added any hardware or software.  I did try resetting the bios using the CMOS jumper, but this didn't change anything.  The lights on the back show that it is initializing ide drivers, but in the manual it also shows that it is one of the last steps in the start-up process, so i would think that the memory check, processor count, msi logo ect. should appear on the screen like it normally does.  However, the LED that blinks when the hard drive is active never lights up, but when i open the case and feel the hard drive i can feel it vibrating like it is functioning properly.  And if it is a hardrive failure, then shouldn't the bios still start up and show up on the monitor?  I have heard that many weird problems can be attributed to the psu, but I have a 500w Antec Smartpower 2.0, which is a pretty reliable psu from what i've heard.  Any help or suggestions would be welcome.  Also, how would i test individual components to find out what is causing the problem?  I think since everything is within a couple of months old i should be able to get replacements.   Thanks in advance for any help.

You guys are awesome!  Thanks a bunch for the info on ram, I feel like I understand it better and I looked and found all the stuff in the bios that you guys were talking about.  I'm downloading speedfan currently and will go install it on my other computer.  I tried swapping the sticks of memory, but i ran into the same problem i did before.  So i'm assuming that i can safely say one stick is faulty right?  And do any of you guys have any experience trying to get replacement memory from crucial?  I'll have to go poke around their website also.  Well, thank you all so much for all of your help.  This is my first home built pc and i'm trying to learn alot about them.  Once everything is running properly i may try a little overclocking, but i'd like to get everything running smoothly first.  Just out of curiosity, what would make a stick of ram go bad like that?  It was only a month old, and i thought crucial xms was pretty good ram.  Is it not? or did i just get unlucky?
Thanks a ton for all the answers, this forum is the most helpful one i've ever seen.  thanks!
Maybe that you're unlucky to get those faulty RAM. Crucial RAM is not bad if you get the better performance if you're ocing your PC if or else get the value RAM if you don't oced.

  • MSI P6N SLI boot problems

I recently bought a P6N SLI and new memory since my current board is getting old
When I got everything assembled and turned it on, all fans and lights started, but there were no beeps and no video
I made sure all power connectors were not loose and tried it with minimum components out of my case, still same problem
tried old memory in case new memory was faulty, no luck
I'm sure all old components are working (using them right now)
sent board in for RMA in case I got a bad board, new one did same thing
since the board didnt come with a D-Bracket, I threw one together (4 LEDs on the red pins, ground on USB) all 4 lit up "System PowerON The D-LED will hang here if the processor is damaged or not installed properly"

I am attaching a link to MSI's CPU support page..you can also get there by going to the top of the forum page, to the right of the MSI banner are all the links you need..handy.   I would think, that any P4 series or any Core 2 Series CPU would be supported from the initial bios release.  The "D" series are a bit out of the mainstream, but are supported once bios is updated.   If you have a decent computer repair store, they should be able to pop in a P4 or C2D CPU to get it into bios and flash it.  Hey, here's a thought...the Core 2 Duo chips are relatively inexpensive now..you can get a Core 2 Duo E4500 for about $125 US that will run circles around your D805...?   Good luck.

    4:Red
    Which on the guide says:
    BIOS Sign On

it is possible that some of the components is damaged due to static electricity.
yes. It may causes a problems if your mobo is short circuit it may effects others hardware too. Gd luck.

  • P6N SLI boot problems

    Hello all,
I bought parts for a new system a few weeks ago, got WinXP pro up and running, updated windows, drivers, etc.  When I went to add an IDE HD (my primary HD is SATA), all hell broke loose, and I couldn't boot.  I took the IDE HD off, tried to boot... nothing.  It would partially load windows, and then restart.
I formatted the HD multiple times, but as soon as it would finish formatting, I would get errors:  Stop 0x00000024, Stop 0x00000023, NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM or FAT_FILE_SYSTEM.  I figured the HD was borked somehow, and I got a new one.
I threw the HD in, formatted, started to install windows...  Same thing.  It seems as soon as it starts to load XP, the system just restarts.  I boot from the WinXP cd to "repair," but as soon as I click R to repair, the system restarts.  If I try to format the system again, the system restarts.
At first, I figured the problem was with the HD, but with the second HD, I figure it must be something else.  Does anyone have any ideas?

    2gigs of 1gig Super Talent Mem, DDR2800
    Intel Core 2 Duo E6400
I think that's all you guys really need to know, right?
    On to the problem:
I can load everything fine... I have WIndows XP, service pack 2 installed.
However, whenever I run a bit too much I get a blue screen. I can force this to happen, for the most part. Vanguard will sometimes run, usually blue screens on installs, etc.
Stop! Errors, Kernel In Page Data errors, etc.
I am going to try the moves specified so far, but I have also heard there is a 2.13 bios version that may fix this?  Any other help is greatly appreciated.
When you mentioned that you run a bit too much, what is that bit of "too much"? We need more detail scenerio of what is done before the BSOD.
Btw, I would appreciate that you open another thread of your own, explaining your problems there and we'll try to help as much as we could. Lastly, remember your PSU specs amps as well.

well, ive had my mobo for some time now, and it was all working fine. untill i got a new 20-24 pin connector. so i try the new connector out, and i get those classic power supply issues. u know , the ones where the fans spin up for a sec and then die. So i go back to the old 20-24 pin connector, and the same again. *so i thought, i need a new psu anyways* so i get a new psu with a 24 connector already on, i try the new psu, and i get the same again. the fans spin up for a sec, and then die off. this problem is kinda above my current lvl of expertise, so i'm turning it over to you guys.
*edit* the lights come on on my usb thingy too, if that helps*
