K9N2 SLI Plat AM Bios

I think I'm having a problem with the BIOS settings.  When I plug two DVD burners into SATA ports 5 & 6 they are not seen by the OS.  Is there a BIOS setting I need to change to fix this?

So I enabled AHCI mode made a registry change to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Msahci was set to 0.  set BIOS to AHCI and rebooted twice I move my two CDs to to sata 3 4.  I connected my two secondary hard drives to on SATA 5 & 6.  Know I cannot see my two hard drives.  You saying SATA 5&6 are useless unless your are running RAID drives?

  • K9N2 SLI Plat and 630 Propus

My wife just bought the 630 for me (early Christmas) and I was wondering if anyone has tried it in the K9N2 SLI Plat.  I see the 600e and the 605e, but not the 620 or 630.  Do I now need to get another mobo?  Any thoughts?  Thanks for the help.

Re seat the CPU and make sure its properly installed, also remove power cord from the PSU and do >>Clear CMOS Guide<< then retry

Installed Windows MCE 2005 w/SP3 and everything up to date driver wise. Problem is HD Audio device is showing up twice in device manager. One shows installed, one shows that no drivers are loaded. I have uninstalled the device and uninstalled the drivers, and reloaded everything. Used drivers from CD and from download, but not luck. Any ideas on what could cause 2 of the same audio devices to show up and only one to actually load, besides a general hardware failure on the motherboard?

That would make sense, if either the 9800GT or the K9N2 had and HDMI port. Sorry guys that's a no go. This is the first time I have ever run into this issue. 2 of the same audio devices showing up in device manager. One has drivers and loads, other shows unknown HD audio device and will not install drivers at all....

  • K9N2 SLI Plat MS7374 Plat - Setup Raid 1 on SATA 5 & 6 Ports

    Hello again,
It has been quite some since I was on the board, but you really helped me out last time.
I have 2 Seagate 500GB 2.5" drives I would like to setup a Raid 1 configuration on SATA 5 & 6.  Currently one is my boot drive (SATA 1) and the other drive (SATA 2) has not been partitioned or formated.  I say this because, Diskpart can see both drives but Disk Manager cannot see the new drive on SATA 2.  I am guessing I will have to partition it and make it a primary & active partition then NTFS format the second drive.
I am not understanding the manual that came with my board.  I have never set up a raid configuration before.  Can I get a blow by blow or pointed to a good manual on how to get this done?  At what point do I move the drives to the SATA 5 & 6 ports?
    Thanks so much!

  • K9N2 SLI Plat Overheating

First, I consider myself a novice when it comes to inner workings (BIOS, voltages and such), so I probably should not have tried to build a box from a barebones kit.  Now that I am in that situation - problems are arising!
    my specs:
    K9n2 SLI Platinum nForce 750a
    BIOS v 3.4
    AMD Phenom X4 9500 4M 95W Socket AM2 CPU (CP1-AM2-9500 )
    Ultra LSP550 550w Power Supply
HITACHI 1TB SERIAL ATA HD 7200/16MB/SATA-3G
    Ultra XBlaster Mid-Tower Case Black
    OCZ Blade PC6400 800MHz 8GB DDR2
    Vista Home 64-bit
    No floppy drive
EVGA GeForce 9400 GT 1GB PCIe - not installed yet
Everything was going great for about a week, but earlier today I installed the newer NVIDIA drivers v15.25 (I believe).  Everything worked normal for several hours, but then I noticed that the CPU temps were skyrocketing from 37C to nearly 80C in just a few short minutes.  I opened the case and ensured that the heatsink and fan were working properly, and all looked good.  I went into the BIOS settings and looked through the hardware monitor and noticed that the temps were still rapidly rising and that the voltage was unstable bouncing around 1.6 to 1.7.  I think that is the problem and the CPU fan is running about 1600 RPM, which may be normal, not sure.  I looked at the Cell Menu and it said the CPU voltage was on auto.
So far I tried to Load Optimal Settings and Load Fail Safe Settings, both to no avail - temps are still skyrocketing within a matter of minutes.  Only other change I made this week was buying a new heatsink and fan ('up'grade from the one that came with the CPU - to a Thermaltake TR2-R1.  Again, the heatsink has been installed for several days, and have had no problems with overheating until tonight.  Oh, yeah, and I do have 2 120mm fans, one front and one rear and the MB temp has been pretty steady at about 24 to 28 C.
    Is there any hope?

Yeah, I definitely took the plastic off, and the heatsink material was already applied.  I suppose I put it on wrong, but there seems to really only be one way to put it on - over the clips and tighten...
Interstingly, after letting it sit overnight and rebooting this morning - it is holding steady again at around 38C (in fact, I'm using it now).  The voltage at boot up read 1.55 instead of auto today, so I quickly adjusted it down to 1.3 to see if I could keep it from going out of control again -so far, so good.  It is just a mystery as to why it (bios) is changing so frequently without me making any adjustments to it.  I've read here and other places that there are possibly issues with this board and earlier bios versions.  It came with v3.4, and I have never tried to flash to anything else.  Should I try and re-install the heatsink?  or does it sound more like a bios problem?

  • K9N2 SLI PLAT 1 vid card for PhysX only make both cards run at 8x?

Hi all. I'm on the fence here as to what to buy. My current setup is (hopefully) displayed
    in my signature.
Here is my concern as copied from the K9N2 Sli Platinum Manual:
"• 1 mazarine PCI Express x16 slot with x16 operation (PCI Express Bus SPEC V2.0 compliant)
    • 1 light-blue PCI Express x16 slot with x8 operation (PCI Express Bus SPEC V2.0 compliant)
    • When 2 PCI Express x16 slots are all installed, the PCIE x 16 lanes will auto arrange form x16/ x0 to x8/ x8. Do not use the light-blue slot when only one PCI Express x16 card is installed."
Is this normal for most SLI mainboards? I was thinking of upgrading in one of two ways:
    1) Just purchase a 9600GT for PhysX only and pop it in the other PCIE 16x slot
                              OR
    2) Go all out and buy another GTX 260 Core216 SC card, new Power Supply, and new PCIE Sound Card
and SLI the 2 cards together.
With option 1, will my GTX 260 get slowed to 8x ?? That may defeat my whole purpose for getting
another vid card and dedicate it for PhysX; would it slow the main card down enough to impact it greatly?
With Option 2, the reason for a new sound card is a second "2 slot" vid card means I'll only be able to use
one of the 2 PCI slots. Currently, I have a Fax Modem and a SB Audigy SE in them.
I use the modem on a regular basis to send/receive faxes, so I will have to replace the sound card.
Anybody know if a Creative Labs SB X-FI Titanium PCIe can fit in the 1x slot between 2 SLI'd Vid cards?
The 1x PCIE slot on this board is between the 2 16x slots, not the ideal spot I fear.
If it won't fit between, my ONLY other choice would be to use the on board sound, which I am
    not fond of doing.
My whole intention here is to play Cryostasis better than it does now, AND hopefully be ready
for any newer games that incorporate PhysX. As it is now, I got Cryostasis free when I bought
my new vid card, nice of eVGA to do that
If I do this, I want it to be pretty future proof:
I don't want to make EITHER investment solely for one game only. I'd prefer to
go with option 2, but I REALLY don't want to find out AFTER I buy everything that
I can't fit the new sound card between the 2 SLI'd cards :(
Any help on this will be GREATLY appreciated,
    thank you.

You are not alone.....  I'm having simular issues
I flashed my bios hoping to fix the HD detection for installing windows.
now I get nothing detected in the bios.  as SATA drives.  IDE channels detect.
Ihave flashed the bios both ways USB and CD bootable image.
I get a NVIDIA HDCP: ROM HOLE 2                     PROTECTED!
During the flash.  Is that supposed to happen?  everything else looks good during the flash.  However now I can't even get drivers to see the SATA drives.  I've tried 2 different makers.
BIOS is set to IDE on the SATA.
Note Same MB as original thread starter. 8GB OCZ memory, hitachi 1TB HD, 160 GB Maxtor HD.

OK someone got it to work, but had to adjust the VCORE before using it, I consider something official when I don't have to do that, there are a lot of users out there that don't overclock, I'm one of them, I know how and I've overclocked this 7750 to 3.4GHz stable with stock cooling, but I'm happy with 2.7GHz stock for now. I'll be upgrading to the the 980a - G65 soon anyway, not going to blow money on a 955 now, will wait til both the board and CPU come down in price.

  • MOVED: How to adjust CPU NB Multi, or HTT Multi in BIOS on K9N2 SLI Platinum?

This topic has been moved to Overclockers & Modding Corner.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=126239.0

Ok so that setting allows me to adjust the HT Link.... though it does this by multiples of 200... starting at 200; going up as high as 3000+
However I discovered that I can only go up to 1800.   If I try to set it at 2000, then my system refuses to POST and I have to clear the CMOS and start over.
I also discovered that, changing this setting, does not seem to have any effect on the CPU-NB setting.
What does have an effect on the North Bridge; is changing the CPU FSB Frequency.  However, not only does this adjust the North Bridge mhz, it also overclocks both the CPU and the DRAM frequency at the same time; but I can't get the North Bridge any higher then 2370mhz without again, causing the system to refuse to POST and resulting in me having to reset the CMOS and starting over.
The reason I was asking and trying to do this is; I was told by OCZ, if I can adjust my DRAM to around 1000mhz, and the NB to 2400mhz, then my ram, which refuses to run at 1066 without crashing my system; I was told my RAM would be preforming equivolent or better then 1333 ram.  But it seems my K9N2 SLI Plat will not achieve that 2400 without becoming unstable.
The highest I can get it is 2370...

  • K9N2 SLI Platinum Bios 3.4 Same old bugs

after waiting ages for another "Offical" bios to be released MSI released bios version 3.4 which still defaults the Phenom 940BE vcore to 1.8volts, auto STILL defaults to 1.375 volts after asking many times for 1.350v option which is default for these chips. thanks MSI for completely ignoring us.

thats very interesting news cjc, im sure theres deffo something not right with these k9n2 sli when resetting bios some seem to have problems others dont.
on this board when i update bios i update bios, shut system down ,pull power lead from psu wait about 30 seconds then press the reset button.
ive also tried load of different ways , loading optimized defaults and resetting etc, etc.
maybe you have 1.3500v because yours is deluxe edition maybe, and mine is platinum edition, the 1.8v thing is deffo not what i am doing tho as there are loads of reports online about this issue even posts on this forum about it (until they are locked).
other than that the board is perfect very stable.

have you tried uping the voltage, the black dragon works perfect at 1066 from 2.2v to 2.4v, however the gskill requires 2.3v to work perfect at 1066 (so my setup its 2x1gb geil and 2x1gb gskill (total 4gb) voltage set to 2.3v) if i dont set 2.3v i get completely random restarts (could be after afew hours or afew days), all passed with prime and occt.
just in case, after bios reset ddr is set to 800 as default ,go into bios and set divider to 1066, then set timings to 5-5-5-15 (dont use auto/sli ready) bios sets strange timings by default at 1066 then set voltage and save.
I've tried everything and even chatted with MSI Techs over it all, been back and forth between MSI and OCZ for about a month now.. bottom line, MSI told me was that they don't certify or support OCZ ddr1066 on the K9N2 SLI Plat; which OCZ Techs told me, basically. B.S!  ...claiming they tested the Board themselves when it came out.   However OCZ doesn't even have the Board listed on their RAM Configurator on their website; which they claim is MSI's fault... and so on, and so on...
Anyway, OCZ is offering to swap my Reaper Set for a different Model set which they claim is more reliable on AMD processors.  Probably their Gold or SLI model set I'd guess; they don't even advertise on their website any difference in their sticks being "Intel Certified" or "AMD Certified" ... and so on.
Worse case scenario; if in the end whatever they give me still doesn't work, I'll EBAY it and try a set of those geIL Black Dragons.

  • MSI K9N2 SLI Platinum - No Mem Voltage Settings?

I recently bought an MSI K9N2 SLI Platinum; along with a Phenom II 940 Black Edition and a set of OCZ Reaper 4gb PC8500/1066 DDR2.
I had, for awhile read that this motherboard was a great board and an excellent buy.
However, I can't seem to find a way to adjust the DRAM Voltage settings.  I can change and adjust the memory timings, but not the voltage settings.
CPUz shows that my RAM is running at 1.8volts but it requires 2.1v!  It also shows that all the mem timings are different from what they're set at in the BIOS.
Is there a way to unlock the Mem Voltage settings on this Motherboard?
If not, I may have to RMA it and get something else.

Don't have every bit of that info in front of my at the moment, but I can say, and show, where links are available...

The X-Fi Card, the two 8800GT's, and the Enermax PS' and both DVD drives, are carried over from my former system.  All the rest were new, upgrade parts with a fresh and clean install of WinXP Pro w/SP3... Creative also came out with some new Drivers for that X-Fi sometime in 2008.  I do not remember the Driver version or the exact date they were released, but I have tried them.
Also, I have tried rolling back the Geforce drivers back through several prior versions and ran tests with those as well, always with the same result.
I'll be removing one of the 8800GT's later on tonight when I get the chance and see what happens there.
One thing I noticed last night, is that the Mobo's Hybrid SLI is enabled with the OnBoard Video Port.  I can not disable the Onboard, unless the Hybrid is disabled first.  The cursor just skips over the listing for OnBoard when the Hybrid is enabled which is understandable.
However, when Hybrid is disabled and the settings saved, and system rebooted... its gets up to the WinXP Splash Screen then flashes a blue screen and automatically reboots and does this in a loop; until Hybrid is re-enabled.
At present, DRAM is manual configured in BIOS for 5.5.5.18 timings, and 2.20 voltage; as per manufacturer specs.  CPU, is manually set at v1.350; which became available after re-flashing BIOS last night, and re-clearing CMOS.

  • K9N2 SLI Platinum raid setup after bios flash

    Hi
I'm building a new system based on K9N2 SLI Platinum. Apart from a new 80 GB sys. HDD everything else is reuse from another MB (MSI K9N Platinum).
Here is what is puzling me: Before trying to install WinXP i flashed the bios to 3.2 because of the included updates to the raid bios. Flashing went well, however in my setup I want the 80 GB HDD to be non-raid and the two 320 GB HDD to be raid1. I've set this up in bios so that only channel 5 and 6 is enabled for raid and would expect that the 80 GB HDD (channel 1) would show up as a normal sata HDD when starting up. But it doesn't - it is listed as 0.0 xxxx after the "press F10 to enter raid setup" message?
This is strange because I had the same HDD setup on my old MSI K9N Platinum and there the 80 GB sata HDD was shown as a "normal" disk and not as a "appendix" to the raid list.
Because of this I have problems installing WinXP on the 80 GB HDD
    Any suggestions?

    Hi BOSSKILLER
    Thanks for your quick response.

Well, leave the 80GB only and install XP over it.
Then connect other two HDD's and enable RAID for them.
Unfortunately this didn't help. As soon as I installed the Windows nVidia RAID SW it prompted med that it had registered  the 80 GB disk as a new disk that wasn't a member of any RAID. This happened everytime Windows XP was started.
The trick was to add the 80 GB disk as a Spanned disk using the nVidia RAID BIOS setup utility. Install Windows XP (again) and the Windows nVidia RAID SW and setup RAID 1 on the other two sata disk.
I don't think this is a great setup but it works. I hope that MSI will fix this issue in a later BIOS upgrade. It would be nice if the enabled/disabled for sata RAID setting actually worked.

  • New K9N2 SLI Platinum isn't booting into BIOS

So i just built a new system with an MSI K9N2 SLI Platinum, and installation went by with a breeze. However, after supplying power, and turning the system on for the first time I'm met with absolutely nothing.
I'm not the most advanced in this category, and I've certainly never experienced the likes of this ever. I've gone through the hardware configuration a thousand times, and I'd know if it were that.
I was wondering if anybody knew a few tricks to get this new board to boot. I'm suspecting it's probably something small and obvious I wouldn't ever think of.
But yeah, any help would be much appreciated.
    Current System:
    Mobo: MSI K9N2 SLI Platinum
CPU: AMD Phenom X4 9850 (black edition)/stock cooler
    RAM: Corsair Dominator 2x2048Mb 1066Mhz DDR2
GPU: PNY XLR8 GeForce 9800 GTX
    HDD1: Western Digital VelociRaptor 300GB 10K RPM
    HDD2: Seagate Barracude 1.5TB 7200RPM
No operating systems yet (which is kind of impossible since I can't even set the boot order without the BIOS loading.) But I plan to run XP Pro alongside Gentoo.

All fans are spinning fine, I'll get the PSU info later, I took it from an old system I built before my last deployment. It's an 850 watt (single 12 volt rail) system, not sure the exact specs on it anymore.
I do believe though, that I've managed to knock something loose as it keeps beeping repeatedly now when it boots. Before it was absolute silence on boot. (which is weird because i don't actually remember installing the speaker?)
Oh, the DVD drive is from another system too, and pretty old, but it opens, and functions.
I also swapped between onboard video, and the graphics card to see if it was maybe the graphics card and still nothing.
Though I have to use a DVI converter with the graphics card (which is pretty lame for a 200+ dollar graphics card to have two DVI ports and an SVID port, but no HDMI port.)
Anyway, I originally tried to boot with my 1080P television connected into the HDMI DVI* port for the mobo.
Keep good language in a forum!
Now if I can just figure out what was wrong in the first place eh?
It seems the reset button allowed it to boot into the BIOS, but a regular boot wont?
Edit: Still wont boot into BIOS or POST though, I'm met with a blinking line that's been there for over 10 minutes now.
