K9N4 SLI and Phenom

Hello,
I searched the forum to see if my K9N4 SLI (nForce 500 SLI) will support Phenom? Officially MSI says not.
If not, will the future AM2+ processors compatible? For example Athlon with Rana core or Phenom 9900?
K9N4 SLI had 4 or 8M?
Thanks!

give us full PC specification. read Moan Guide including PSU brand +details(can be found into PSU sticker).
what exactly mainboard model you have got? --> http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_list.php?kind=1&CHIP=71&NAME=Socket%20AM2%20(AMD%20K9)
    which one?
also where you see that PCI-E is x8?
have you installed chipset drivers 1st?

  • K9N2 SLI Platinum / Phenom II 940BE overvolting and buzzing at load

I have seen many posts related to this issue, but have found no solution.  The only thread which seemed to be going somewhere went off topic and was closed before anything could be resolved
My Phenom II 940BE, at load, is constantly being overvolted between 1.37-.38 and 1.40v.  In the BIOS, after a fresh CMOS reset, I see the processor is set to 1.80v in the cell menu.  This is a false reading, though, since the hardware monitor still has it between the aforementioned 1.37-.38 and 1.40v.  Regardless, the lowest setting I have available with the CPU voltage setting in the Cell Menu is 1.375v then AUTO.
I have tried using many BIOS images with freshly cleared CMOS (remove battery, power cables from motherboard, wait a few minutes etc.): 3.4 3.5 and a MSI tech provided 3.6B1 BIOS all produce the same behavior.
When my CPU is at load, a light buzzing sound can be heard from the CPU area of the motherboard.  This is especially noticeable when cool n quiet is enabled and the system decides to go from 800MHz to 3GHz, the buzzing is for the duration of the up-clocking until clocked back to 800MHz.  I had the same issue on Vista x64 as well as Win 7.  After some time at 3GHz the buzzing seems to go away, but may be drowned out by a fan or two.
Has anyone found some sort of resolve for this issue?
    System Specs:
    K9N2 SLI Platinum
    Phenom II 940BE stock
    Stock AMD cooler
8 gig of OCZ DDR-II 800 RAM (OCZ2N800SR2G) at stock
    BFG GeForce 9800GT 1gig stock
    Windows 7 X64 RTM
    EDIMAX Wireless card 802.11n
Enermax Liberty Power Supply 500W (link)
    2x Samsung Ecogreen 500gig in RAID0
    Pioneer DVD-RW (SATA)
    Onboard sound

Problem 1: solved.  The metal curly thing by the RAM was buzzing.  Unfortunately I do not have a hot glue gun and pressing on it with an eraser from a pencil did not alleviate buzzing, so removing 2 sticks of ram did it.  I had 4x 2gb sticks.  Taking out 2 stopped almost all of the buzzing sound, but sadly now I am running with only 4 gig of ram vs my mighty 8
Problem 2 still remains, the mystery of my CPU being at 1.38 - 1.40V instead of 1.350 when set to AUTO in the BIOS.

  • Looking for some more voltage love K9N4-SLI

Maybe one of you fine folks can help a brother out on a bios.  I have the 1.51 bios for my K9N4 SLI-F board, and the one thing that's holding me back is a little more voltage out of my ram, and possibly a smidge on the north bridge.  Is it possible to modify the bios so I can up the ram voltage?  I'm running a 5000+ BE and I have plenty of cooling to keep the rig cool.  I'm using 2x2gig sticks of GSKill pc6400  F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ and a little more voltage would probably go a long way.  Thanks in advance.

Again, this board is invaluable. You got me from 3000 to 3150, and I can probably keep going.  Raised my ram to 2, northbridge and processor up .5.  Running VERY cool, running VERY stable, thanks!
    Nice

  • K9n4 sli wont boot into bios

this is a new build my specs are
    motherboard           k9n4 sli
    cpu                     amd anthlon 64 x2 4600
    ram                     ocz 6400 dual channel 2x 2gig
power supply         ocz game extreme 700
    video card              evga 8800gts
hard drive               wd 500 gig sata
    heat sink                ocz vendetta
so like the title says I can not get into the bios, I get a very loud single beep, now the best way I can describe the beep is as an angry beep.  Sounds stupid I know.  Now when I look up the beep it seems that it could be a memory or cpu, the cpu beep is described as high/low siren, I don't really get that, but it is higher pitched then a normal beep.  I have tried moveing the ram around and only putting one stick in.  I have tried to clear the bios.  It seems that something is not working right or incompatable.  my money is on the ram, cpu,or motherboard.  The sad thing is I cant really switch out any of those things.   I have the feeling that it might be the cpu,but would like some feedback before I  rma anything.
any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

not sure by which one do you mean
    amd athlon 64 x2 4600 socket am2
probably the first thing to get upgraded but should be compatable or am i missing something
There are several models "amd athlon 64 x2 4600 socket am2".

Also i've asked to double check that you have 4600+ {and not 6400+, because 6400+ is not supported}.
    Have you plugged CPU FAN in CPU-FAN connector to the mainboard? {Not in SYSFAN}

  • K9N4 SLI Vista Drivers

I was recently... Uh.. Well I guesse the word would be "Forced" to upgrade my Pc to Vista after my old operating System (Windows XP ME 2002 edition) was no longer supported by Microsoft and the zune software.  Basically It bricked my original Zune.  Now I have Vista and it isn't too horrible.  Except the only problem I have is I cant get my USB ports to register anything.  My Keyboard and Mouse work, they both have their own drivers.  But I cannot get my PC to register my USB Keys, Webcams, or the zune itself.  Maybe I missed something on the main site but I can't find the correct drivers for the main board it seems.
I appologize If I am missing something on the forums or the webpages already posted.  Thanks in advance for your help!
Edit: Sorry I missed some data ^.^ The board I have is the K9N4-SLI Model MS-7325. Chipset nForce4, Southbridge nForce4.

You don't need drivers for usb ports.
But you do need drivers for devices.
Those are typical drivers from the manufacturers of the USB devices, like your webcam.
Has nothing to do with your board.

I live in Houston, Texas, and i purchased the K9N4 sli-F a little over a year ago, since then i have been using an 8800gtx, but lately i have been experiencing major over heating issues, so i've decided to purchase a new CPU cooler and a new GPU, and because of unbeatable deals on Newegg.com i have decided to purchase 2 Gts 250 1gb's... but i seem to have misplaced my Sli bridge, i did recieve one when i purchased my motherboard, but i never really thought id use it (go me!) and i never tried to keep track of it.. is there anyway i can recieve a replacement? i have already put in a request to customer service via email, but if its anything like other companies i know it will be a while untill i recieve a reply

  • K9N4-SLI video question

I'm real close to buying the MSI K9n4-SLI-F MB. I dl'ed the manual and it seams to say that the PCIE 16x slots are only supported at 8X speed. I understand if that is true while in SLI, but is the 1st slot running at 16x with one vid card?
    Thanks

Happy to help.     It should make a nice Christmas gift for him.

  • No audio in Win 7 K9N4 SLI (MS-7325) with latest Realtek driver

I am running an K9N4 SLI (MS-7325) motherboard and cannot get sound to play in Windows 7 or Ubuntu 11.10. In Win 7, my driver is: 6.0.1.6305
Windows says there are no conflicts and everything is fine but I don't hear anything out of my headphone. Any ideas or direction? Thanks!

Thanks for the replies... I have not tried reverting to an older driver since the only drivers available on the official website are only for Windows 2000 and older. According to the current driver, I have it in the Line Out jack on the back... I do not have any jacks in the front for line out audio.

  • K9N4 SLI: Support of 3 GB in dual channel

    Hello,
    This is a great forum
I've a MSI K9N4 SLI (MSI 7325), AMD Athlon 64 x2 3600+ oced to 4000+ and two stick of one gb of ram.
Each module is inserted in different channels.
I want to add a new module of 1 gb ram, so my system will have 3 GB in total. So my question is: If I add a new module, will the memory work in single or dual channel? If yes or not, will at least work in single channel?
My system score 4,9 as processor and 5,9 memory. I'm using Vista x64 and all works good but I need a little more speed.
    Thanks!

If even can works will be in single.
Use 1,2 or 4 memory modules.
For best performance and troubles free use 2x matched memory sticks only.

  • Random reboots K9N4 SLI

    Hello guys,
I'm writing because I've a random reboot problem.
My PC randomly reboot even if I've Windows configured to not reboot if found a BSOD. I mean I've disabled reboot automatically option.
The problem occurs randomly. For example, I can play games without problems. But sometimes while I'm listening music, it reboot.
Event log entries are normal, no recorded error.
I ran many test and memory is OK, hard disk OK, video card OK. Processor works stable even when it's overclooked with MSI Dual Core Center.
When I had XP x64 installed, the random reboot problem was very frequent. Now I switched to XP Pro x86 and the random reboots still happen but less frequent than with x64.
I read mobo's manual and I found that this mobo need a power supply of at least 450 watt and mine PSU is 350. Can this be the problem?
My graphic card need at least 350 watt, so here I'm OK. But mobo need 450.
In summary, I'm 100% sure that hard disk, graphic card, ram modules and proccessor are OK Also, this problem happen with or without overclocking processor with MSI Dual Core Center.
Can be a faulty mother board or chipset? Or is probably the PSU of 350 watt?
I looked at capacitors and all appear to be normal.
    Help!
    Sorry for my English.
    Best regards,
    André

    Hi,
Thanks. I see your links and I noted that all recommended PSU are Enermax a one Corsair.
The model of Enermax I found near to me is this:
Maybe you don't know this specific model, but this looks a good one?
    ENERMAX NOISETAKER ATX V 2.0 485W 20+4 PINES
    http://www.enermaxusa.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21_46&products_id=110
    +12v1 22A     32A combine pw
    +12v2 22A        32A combine pw
    +3.3v 32A
Should work, but the main idea is to get a single rail PSU.. read why from the link which i give you before.

But I still want to know what the problem is.  The board turns on, the fan on the board spins and everything else seems to work, why wouldn't I get a screen?
Well you have to swap some parts to find out.
    Do you hear any beeps?
    What D-Bracket shows?
Have you Clear CMOS Guide as suggested?
What is the newest PSU which you have tested?

  • K9N4 SLI with AMD Athlon 6400+ X2 - Damage to CPU???

Hello everybody...I have a very quick question.  I purchase an AMD Ahtlon 6400+ X2 processor and the MSI K9N4 SLI motherboard not knowing that they are incompatible.  I didn't find this out until I had  installed the CPU, RAM and PCI-E video card, powered up and didn't get a boot or POST.  It's alittle frustrating and I've made arrangements to swap the motherboard for one that is compatible.  However my concern here is any damage that may have occurred to the processor in doing this.  Does anyone know whether this would have caused any permanent damage to the CPU or any other component?  Any response would be very much appreciated.  Thank you very much.

Just to let you know, i too made the same mistake back in February 2008.  i got the same board and the same processor and it also would not boot.  However, luckily I did have my old processor to got back to and i installed it and then I flashed the BIOS to 1.4 and then reinstalled the 6400 CPU.  I have been running my PC for nearly a year now and have had no problems.  So I doubt it caused any damage.
