K9N4 SLI with AMD Athlon 6400+ X2 - Damage to CPU???

Hello everybody...I have a very quick question. I purchase an AMD Ahtlon 6400+ X2 processor and the MSI K9N4 SLI motherboard not knowing that they are incompatible. I didn't find this out until I had installed the CPU, RAM and PCI-E video card, powered up and didn't get a boot or POST. It's alittle frustrating and I've made arrangements to swap the motherboard for one that is compatible. However my concern here is any damage that may have occurred to the processor in doing this. Does anyone know whether this would have caused any permanent damage to the CPU or any other component? Any response would be very much appreciated. Thank you very much.

Just to let you know, i too made the same mistake back in February 2008. i got the same board and the same processor and it also would not boot. However, luckily I did have my old processor to got back to and i installed it and then I flashed the BIOS to 1.4 and then reinstalled the 6400 CPU. I have been running my PC for nearly a year now and have had no problems. So I doubt it caused any damage.

i have tryed everything i can think of. this machine refuses to boot. the PSU is 45 min old. this is the third PSU i have tryed. all in varying strengths. including the 450 PSU from the fisrts system in my sig. all to no avail. when i hit the power button on the front all that happens iss the CPU fan spins up and dies, the PSU fan does the same, and then the machine dies. the mouse, and KB LED's stay lit as if it was in stand-by. there ane NO PCI cards installed, no AGP. im at my wits end. HELP!!!!

Stay lit, but no way you (can) reach BIOS? Do you know how to clear CMOS? Perhaps it is looking for a PS2 mouse or keyboard, some booting device, or something completely different. Don't forget to pull power cable if you clear CMOS.
I guess you have checked for visible damage to the mobo, extra stand-offs behind it, and loose connections already.
If above doesn't work, the next step for me would be to reseat the processor. And next to dump the mobo.
Edit: Of course, the processor must also be controlled or tried in another system.
Yes no extra stand offs, and the board looks to be in perfect shape. came like it is... and the connections are firmly seated. hdd, power etc, all firmly plugged in.
happen to know if the 1500+ wprks on the k7n2 delta2 platinum?
only other AMD board in the house.
*Edit* Cpu seems to be fried, turns out my son got to more than just the old mobo. the cpu is an amd athlonXP 1700+ based on the numbers on the chip. and yes it does work with a K7N2 Delta2 Platinum. and no my CPU does not work. thanks for the time and extra eyes.

• MSI K9N4 SLI with Athlon X2 6000+

I just built a new systems with this motherboard and processor with 2Gb Geil DDR2 800 memory. For some reason the CPU performance is terrible. The WEI (with all of its limitations) is only 4.5 so I when and checked the Sandra score and it benchmarks < an X2 4200. I have stock optimum BIOS settings.
What am I doing wrong?

I just migrated from to a new motherboard and processor. The old motherboard was a socket 939 EVGA SLI microATX motherboard with a FX-55. The Windows vista recognized the motherboard change and I reinstalled the Nvidia chipset drivers. It seemingly came off without a glitch.
I wonder how the upgrade would have resulted in poor processor performance. The Sandra benchmarks seem to confirm the problem.

• Acquiring an Acer - Laptop with AMD Athlon X2 Dual-Core Processor - Blue

Hey guys, I live down in Rowlett, Texas (near Dallas), and am trying to find one of these laptops. Unfortunately, none of the nearby stores have available units. I heard that I could request one to be sent to a store, but I wanted to see if anyone here had anything to say about trying to get one of these.
Thanks,
theDGs

Its usually the nearby stores that make the exception, if its a whole other county that can be tricky.

But I still want to know what the problem is. The board turns on, the fan on the board spins and everything else seems to work, why wouldn't I get a screen?
Well you have to swap some parts to find out.
Do you hear any beeps?

• Msi KT4AV with AMD ath. 2500 (333mhz)???

hey hello there
Here is my question I m planning to buy msi 6712 KT4AV with amd athlon 2500 (333mhz 512 kb)
Is mainboard a good choose??? Can I overclock it and run like 2400-2500 mhz...
please help me because 1 m Planning to buy it today..

Hi........
Hope its not to later..........
The KTV4A is the newer version of the KTV4 with the only real change being the 400A chipset on the newer board, as for overclocking this and its earlier brother were made for it with settings for the cpu range from 100-0299
If asked I would say go for the earlier version as this board does not have the issues that the newer board appears to be suffering (KT7A anyone?).
Hope it helps

• Satellite C850D-B600 - troubles with AMD Radeon HD 7310 Graphics

Hi,
I have laptop Toshiba Satellite C850D-B600 with AMD Dual-Core Processor E1-1200 CPU with AMD Radeon™ HD 7310 Graphics
I tried the last version in the official site and I tried AMD Official Site and I got massage says (the version of your graphics adapter is not supported) and when I tried to install Toshiba driver the graphic card does not work too.
When I tried to open AMD vision engine control centre I got this massage says (AMD vision engine control center cannot be started there are currently no settings that can be configured using AMD vision engine control center).
Please could you help me :(

Hi
May I ask you what system did you install and what driver did you try to install from Toshiba driver page?
It seems that this notebook Satellite C850D-B600 was released without any preinstalled Windows system and therefore it would be useful to know what system you are using.
You should also know that the Radeon HD 7310 graphic is a part of CPU. Yes, this is not external graphic unit but its intergraded in CPU.
Regarding the AMD vision engine control center
>AMD vision engine control center cannot be started there are currently no settings that can be configured using AMD vision engine control center
The AMD Vision Control Center offers additional CPU monitoring options from within the Control Center. I think the above message appears because there are no settings which could be configured. But this does not mean that the driver would not work.

• Windows 8 64bit not compatible w/ AMD Athlon 64 processor and/or ASUS A8N-SLI motherboard.

Why should I have to go through a plethora of troubleshooting techniques, then have to settle for using the Windows 8/ 32bit install CD, when I have a 64bit system? I think it's probably something in the Windows
8 /64bit code that causes it to fail install w/ AMD Athlon 64bit processor, and/or my ASUS A8N-SLI motherboard. After a lot of hassle I tried the Windows 8 /32bit CD and that seems to work fine. My real question is, why should I have to settle
for 32bit on a 64bit system?

I had the same experience trying to install Window 8 Pro 64bit (Build 9200) on an old XP SP3 32bit system, but I somehow got it working; the full story.
I had two XP Sp3 32 bit systems I wanted to upgrade to Window 8 Pro 64 bit (with the $40 upgrade deal available now). System#1 is: I7 920/Asus P6T deluxe/EVGA 560Ti/3GB/1 TB SATA 300 drive/1.44 Floppy/ 12X Bluray burner (pulled the old TV tuner card for
upgrade-incompatible). I ran the Windows 8 upgrade advisor - very few issues (TV Tuner card as mentioned and other software) - bought the upgrade. Downloaded the upgrade from my Win7Pro 64bit system to obtain the 64bit ISO (2.69GB) - burned to DVD. Installed
from DVD; no problems, finished in under 20 minutes - working great (really fast boot!).
System#2 is: Opteron 180/Asus A8N-E/EVGA 275GTX/2GB/1 TB SATA 300 drive/ 1.44 Floppy/ 16X DVD RW burner; the Windows 8 upgrade advisor - more incompatible software than system#1, but no incompatible hardware. I had read a number of blogs concerning the issues
others were having with the upgrade failing, so before I purchased, I thought I would run the 64bit install DVD I had (known to work on the other system) to see if it worked. I should note this system was not-in-use and thus I was not worried if the install
failed (I'd just be annoyed!). Ran the install from the DVD; initial splash screen - no spinning dots - waited 15 minutes (by which time no activity on DVD or hard drive) - failure. Rebooted - entered bios (1010) - tried many combinations of settings up to
disabling nearly everything (NVRAID, Legacy USB, Floppy, Audio97- all disabled / moved SATA into every slot (1-4) / tried SATA 150 and SATA 300 (SATA2, slots 3-4) - no change - failure X4 attempts. Now original XP3 installation is corrupted (GRRRR!) - I should
have imaged the drive BEFORE - oh well. Read more about others experience with this seemingly NForce board-related issue. Plan B - I will try install with an IDE (PATA) hard drive (80GB) - failure. Read more - some mention Window 8 installer not "liking" XP
partitions / disks (???); Plan C - Re-partition / format / check 80 GB IDE drive with WDTools - attempted Win8Pro install - failure. Dejected; last attempt before considering Win8Pro 32bit - Plan D - Re-partition / format / check 1 TB SATA 300 drive with SeaTools
(Barracuda 32GB buffer-7200rpm) - run Win8PRO 64bit install from DVD (build 9200) - success! Install took nearly an hour, with 3 reboots to the finish. Specifics (install configuration): 1 TB SATA drive in Slot 4 (SATA2), upgraded memory to 4GB Corsair PC3200
(4 slots filled), Two DVD drives on Primary IDE channel (master and slave), secondary IDE channel - no devices, bios (1010) - NVRAID, Audio97,1394 port,LAN -disabled; USB 2.0, USB Legacy, Floppy - enabled, IDE-Auto), TrendNet USB wireless adapter on USB slot
2 (motherboard), EVGA 275GTX in PCIe slot 1, no other cards. System seems to be performing well (fast boot times, no hangs), but as noted, no sound (I actually forgot to re-enable the Audio97 device in bios; it was 2am). I will see if I can get the Audio97
enabled today; my backup is to add a Turtle Beach Montego DDL PCI card (with the Windows7 64bit driver and run in compatiblity mode). Hope this saga might help some others out - good luck.

• AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800 and K9N SLI Platinum

I've been reading conflicting reports concerning RAM speed. One says that X2 AMD's will run at 800mhz, and I've read that only FX will run at 800 and vise versa, with this mobo. Anyone running this cpu with RAM at 800mhz????

http://techreport.com/reviews/2006q2/socket-am2/index.x?pg=2
Quote
On Socket AM2 Athlon 64 systems, the clock speed of system memory is derived from the CPU's clock frequency.
The memory clock runs at some fraction of the CPU clock speed, and the ratio of CPU clock to memory clock is determined by a divisor. Yet only whole-number divisors are available on these chips, and that limits the available memory clock speeds.
In other words, some AM2's will run DDR800 at 800 MHz, some won't. The 3800+ will.

If you creat a signature (in profile) it will save you having to type your spec's out each time or us looking for it. Use mine as a template.
What PSU are you using ? Can you list the power output ? (writen on side of psu)
Going from your specs you listed your graphics card is very hungery on power so I would suggest your psu isn't up to the job under load.
Post the spec and we will know for sure.

• TS1362 I am running windows xp with all the updates. I have an HP Pavilion with an AMD athlon xp-m processor. I have the most RAM I can install on this PC (1 gig). I also have plenty of disc space(over 60 gig). Why can't I play my .MOV files correctly.

I cannot get the .mov files I recorded on my I-phone 4 to play correctly( i.e. no audio, video jerky at best), on my HP Pavilion laptop with an AMD athlon xp-m, OS=XP, 1 gig ram, plenty of hard drive space >50 gig. Just not enough RAM or am I missing something? I have updated all I can(Quicktime, I-tunes etal). Any ideas?

My first thought when reading your post ( video jerky) is that the CPU doesn't have enough horse power? What is the GHz of the AMD athlon? 1.8 GHz would be right on the edge with video. And where the computer will max out at 1 Ghz of RAM indicates the laptop is older and the CPU probably as well. 1 GHz of RAM maybe low on today's computers but would not be an issue if the CPU was perhaps 2.8 GHz. The audio is less demanding by far on CPU's than video, so that could be a codec?
