K9N6GM-V no onboard VGA on boot

My friend's K9N6GM-V mobo is in an Antec tower case running WinXP Pro with AMI BIOS v.02.59 and there is now no video upon bootup using the onboard VGA. Which inexpensive basic low-end video cards would you recommend to upgrade this computer's video for basic SVGA output to a flat screen monitor? Should he go for PCI or PCI-Express 16? (User is two retired seniors who don't do much on their computer besides play solitaire and mahjong game, so minimum features are needed.)

Mark: Sorry, it is a K9N6SGM-V mobo (missed the S first time). I put in a TRIDENT TD9680P PCI VIDEO CARD TGUI9680-1 TDHXI760 and I got video during POST and during XP boot up but then it hung before reaching the XP desktop. Also hangs when trying to boot using Last Good Configuration. I was able to boot into Safe Mode, but attempts to restore earlier restore points always fail. In Safe Mode, Device Manager reports Onboard VGA Driver as NVIDIA GeForce 6100 nForce 405 11/5/2010 Ver 6.14.12.630; Trident is Microsoft 6/6/2001 ver 5.1.2001.0. A graphics card test with PC-Check reported that the Trident card could not initialize many of its advertised video modes and Display Manager offers 8bit 800x600 resolution as the only option. So, I'm wondering if this video card is simply not compatible with the K9N6SGM-V?
Frederick: PSU is an Antec 380W. My senior friend is fuzzy about the video failure circumstances. Since he has RegCure and other utilities I wouldn't be surprised if he has been clicking on things all the time whenever something doesn't work as expected. I have a lot of computer experience at all levels, although hardware isn't my strongest suit. I learn fast though, and if the Onboard VGA Driver is correct version, BIOS version is OK, and my Trident card is inadequate anyway, then seems like the next logical step should be buying & installing a workable PCI or PCI-e video card?

  • HP Pro 3130 MT Windows 7 How to use onboard VGA

There's got to be a simple solution to this.  Our company recently took over another office and acquired several used PC's from them.  Three of them are HP Pro 3130 MT workstations with Windows 7.  These units have a built in VGA port and a DVI port.  In addition they all have a separate video card installed, the HP 584217-001 ATI Radeon 4550.
I need these PC's to talk to "normal" VGA monitors, but since the onboard VGA will not work I presumed this was due to the ATI Radeon being installed and overriding the onboard VGA adapter.  So, I removed the ATI Radeon card.  Now the PC just beeps when it is booted.  Still no VGA output.  The HP 584217-001 also has a cable that converts it into two VGA ports.  No luck when using this cable to connect with a VGA monitor, either.
How do I re-enable the onboard VGA adapter?  I cannot see the BIOS as the display (VGA) will not work, so I can't make any BIOS setting changes.  At this location there are no DVI capable monitors so I haven't tested whether or not the onboard DVI adapter is working.

    Just so everyone knows...
Please take note of the specific processor which is included with your HP Pro 3130 MT.
HP Pro 3130 MT motherboards with specific processors do not have any onboard (integrated) graphics, although they still have the VGA and DVI connectors. This means that although you may remove the PCIe Graphics Card, you will not be able to be able to use a monitor with the onboard VGA or DVI (because there is no integrated graphics).  This also means that you will not be able change your bios to onboard graphics (because there is no integrated graphics).

    graphics."(1)

  • 651M-L can't disable onboard VGA and other problems.

Hello. I have the MSI 651M-L motherboard and I want to use an external AGP card (GeForce 2 MX 400) instead of the onboard. I am really confused with this board for many reasons (the PC is not mine, I should just fix it). I think that the board may be damaged. First of all, in the manual, it doesn't say a word about the external AGP card. In the BIOS, there is nothing relevant (disable onboard VGA). I thought that it is just automatic and I plugged in the external card, but the system was still working with the onboard! 2 or 3 times ONLY, the system has booted-up normally but the monitor was off. I thought then to shutdown the PC and connect the monitor to the external card. The system was working properly after that and Windows XP saw the GeForce 2. After some reboots, the system was switching again to the onboard VGA (without personally making any change)! Why is that? Why the system is switching by itself from the one VGA to the other? I have checked that the AGP card is plugged in correctly. Is there any jumper or something to disable the onboard VGA? Thanks.
PS1: Can someone explain to me, why the VGA drivers downloaded from the MSI website for this board (http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_detail.php?UID=478&kind=1), don't work? When I am trying to install them, an error message comes up saying that it didn't find the necessary hardware and the installation is canceled. My present drivers have date of 2002 and I want to upgrade to the latest drivers. I have made all the other driver updates (agp driver, IDE, sound, LAN etc).
PS2: Is it true that this board doesn't have any option for overclocking? I have a P4 at 2.4 GHz. I didn't find anything in the BIOS. I can't believe it. Are there any hidden options?
PS3: Will MSI release any newer BIOS for this board? The latest is 07/09/2003, but I think that there are many things to be improved.

Hi again. Maesus, I have already tried that and if I remember well, it had worked in the beginning but later the system started the same thing. I don't want to do that again, because I will have to re-configure all BIOS settings and because I think that it shouldn't be necessary. The solution would be to have a new BIOS release. But I want to add that I have tried with another external AGP card (again a GeForce 2) without result. The system can see only the onboard VGA and I can't figure out why.
Apart from that, I have another VERY STRANGE error. Please read carefully: I was facing many Blue-Screens-of-Death (BSD) with the know error "Page Fault In Non Page Area". From my experience, classic case of RAM problems, due to failing or bad configured DIMM. The RAM is a one-week new 1 GB DIMM DDR-400 which works at 266 MHz (2T CL, 1T CR). I had shared 64 MB to the on-board VGA and the other 960 MB to the system. I couldn't believe that the DIMM was failing, so I used MS Memory Diagnostic tool to check-it out. In the first pass, many errors were found (about 60 at the time I stopped it). This utility is rather old now and in some cases can give wrong results. For example, in my personal system where I have 4 identical DIMMS of 512 MB each (Dual Channel), this utility was reporting some errors, while actually my RAM was perfect. I know it because I have checked it with Memtest86 and was error-free and also because the system is rock-solid. Back to our case now, I re-started the test and again I saw many errors. Actually, the standard 6-tests first pass was ok, but the second pass has... 4500 errors all in the sixth test! Very strange but I was terrified by that! The same day, I tried Memtest86 to verify the errors. Memtest, had correctly recognized the 960 MB of memory and reported that is going to check this amount of memory. 2 passes and no errors. The next day, I have understood that maybe the problem was with the 64 MB shared memory part. Maybe this memory part was causing the whole problems, because the diagnostic tool could try to test it as a system memory part. Additionally I have never used MS Memory Diagnostic on such a case (onboard VGA). I decided to limit the shared memory up to 8 MB and re-try the test, hoping for less errors. I have tried 3 standard 6-tests passes and 3 extended 11-tests passes with not a single error. Also, the BSD have disappeared. Yesterday, I tried to watch a DVD and two times faced BSD. Today, this DVD plays normally. I will continue the tests of course, but I think that there was (maybe still there is) a problem with the hundle of the shared memory part. I have all the latest drivers, but I believe that this board is problematic. Anyway, If someone have to make any comments on this story is welcome.

  • Onboard VGA screen blacking out on HP EliteDesk 800 G1SFF

Product Name: HP EliteDesk 800 G1
    product Number: H5U03ET#ABU
We recently purchased a few of these and have an issue where the screen blanks out and only a reseat of the VGA connector resolves the issue. This happens on the onboard VGA connection only,  the display ports don't exibit this behaviour.
searched a few forums and can't see any related issues, went through the quick specs and again nothing obvious like a power setting.
we have two types of monitor and it isn't restricted to one type.

  • Onboard VGA and AGP card

AS far as I understand, if I install an AGP card, it will automatically disable the onboard vga. Is it possible to have both enabled? I'd like to connect two monitors and use two separate desktops. One possible solution would be to install a dual head card, but the one that I have is a full-size card. So I'd like to use my old half-size ATI AGP card and onboard chip - is it possible?

no, because the onboard agp shares the AGP slot. you cannot use both together

  • K9N6PGM2-V2 DISABLE ONBOARD VGA INSTALL 6600 PCI-e

    Hi All
I have put together a basic multimedia computer for a friend using all new parts (listed below) All went well with the XP install and it seems to be running fine, Another pleasant build apart from the graphics>
I want to disable the onboard graphics and use a NEW MSI 6600 (non SLI) graphics card basically for the dual view and S-VIDEO output options, I have set the preference in the BIOS to PCI-E disabling the onboard VGA, I connected the monitor to the 6600 but no picture is displayed and found the onboard VGA is still working, Would I need to remove the onboard drivers to be able to use the 6600?

    A-POWER 680W PSU
Any help would be greatly appreciated

okay I hope this helps because i had a similar problem where my gtx 275 coop would not display unless the onboard vga was installed, but i have an msi nf980-g65 mobo, so i'm hoping this can help. so before doing anything switch your setting that should be called "Primary Graphics Adapter" to "Internal" if thats what it says in your bios, (you can have the graphics card in or out of the pc its fine) then go into windows if you have it installed, then go to device manager and delete the onboard vga from the display adapters. then download the latest drivers for your card (you don't need the card to be recognized or installed to download the drivers) but dont install the drivers yet, then download Driver Sweeper, reboot into safe mode then open driver sweeper, and check every box related to nvidia, then clean it. (also if windows reinstalled the drivers for the onboard vga, delete it again from the device manager and clean the drivers again with driver sweeper) then install the latest drivers for your graphics card, it should already be on your desktop or wherever you saved it to. then reboot and see if your graphics card picks up video, and then if it does go into windows and look in the device manager and if your onboard vga and your graphics card are shown in device manager, then don't do anything and reboot into the BIOS and set the primary graphics adapter back to PCI-E and i'm not sure where its located but look into the chipset feature option or wherever and it should show a setting called Onboard VGA or Integrated VGA and set it to disabled, then it should take off the onboard vga from the computer and your graphics card should still pick up a video signal. but the feature would only pop up for me if the graphic card was enabled so look hard for it. i hope this helps cause i had that same problem where it need the mGPU enabled for the 275 to be enabled

  • How to disable external VGA and also enable onboard VGA

    hello,
     my spec is
    cpu corei5 ivybridge
    mis zh77A GA43
    vga hd7770 msi
i want to know, how to disable external VGA and also enable onboard VGA ??
    and
i want to ask too, if i disable external VGA In MB, it is my external VGA still consumption power? or i must unplug my external VGA ?
how much different power consumption between external VGA and onboard VGA on idle time?
because my computer each night be used for download, i want to save power as i can...
also there is a eco mode? i want to know about eco mode, how much power can be save under eco mode? on idle time computer
    sorry my bad english

Well remove the HD7770 and is disabled and doesn't consume any power. You can't enable or disable it the discrete vga when pc is in use. That board does also not support Virtu.
The possible power saving beacuse of eco mode depends on the individual systems. There is no general value. Just try it.

  • Mini DisplayPort to VGA in Boot Camp

    Hi all!
So I'm looking to unload my old G4 laptop and get a new MacBook or MacBook Pro. But there's something... scaring me.
I do a lot of video mixing through projectors or TVs, often in situations where s-video is the only available option (I usually do it in straight SD video). And right now, I have to depend on a Windows laptop with an s-video port for using Resolume. So the idea of having a machine with Boot Camp, running everything, is great.
But only if I can go out from it into a projector! On the Mac side, it looks like that would work fine---I'd just buy the Apple mini DisplayPort to VGA dongle:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB572Z/A
And then, if I need to go to s-video (which I often do), get a little scan converter, like:
    http://www.grandtec.com/products/video/untimateEZ.html
But my concern is---does the mini DisplayPort to VGA dongle work in Boot Camp? If so, I'll be very happy. If not... If not I just might have to buy a Windows laptop, and will be very sad indeed.
    Thanks for your help!

Sorry, I do not run Windows on my Mac's so I can not say for sure.

  • 760GM-E51 having onboard VGA problems

I got this motherboard as part of a barebones kit from TigerDirect. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1706926&CatId=5294
I already knew that the PSU was going to be an issue but figured I could at least get it booting up and get an OS installed. Unfortunately this was not the case. Booting barebones style, with just the CPU and RAM attached gets me to the BIOS, but immedately after saving and exiting, the following reboot goes wonky after the MSI logo screen. The video is all messed up and snowy. Is the onboard video to blame, or the PSU that needs more juice?

Quote from: Henry on 07-January-12, 07:31:32
What does the label on the PSU show for amps on the +12V rail(s)?
That can't possibly be a very good PSU since it came with a $60 case. A good PSU is going to cost almost that much by itself.
What is the number on the BIOS chip sticker?
The amps for the 12v rail is listed at 30. And yeah, even the reviews on TD iimplied that the PSU was crap. I knew that going in. haha. But still. Some of those reviewers have managed to get the kit running, so why can't I, y'know? Haha.
As for the BIOS chip: A7956 on top, AMS1A0 beneath it.

  • MSI 865G Neo2-LS onboard VGA is fuzzy

I've got a MSI-865G Neo2-LS (MS-6728G) board which I have installed WIN XP on. The onboard video seems not to be clear. It is not the monitor because I've tried it on another monitor and got the same results. I've installed the latest VGA driver(v13.1) and the boards bios is 1.3
    Anyone else have this probem?

wavy lines on the screen?? Few things you can check:
    1. is VGA cable in tip-top condition?
    2. is your motherboard properly grounded?
    3. any other external device that induce interference?
    4. have tried with all refresh rate and resolutions?
Please let me know your findings here...

  • Z77A-G43 No onboard VGA,HDMI and DVI, No audio

I have a Z77A-G43 with a i5-3350P processor. I connected my monitor (Iiyama) on the on-board VGA port. After installation i started up the computer. I could see the the computer was starting up on the keyboard but i did not see anything on the monitor. My monitor has two inputs, VGA and HDMI, so i tried the on-board HDMI-port. Again no picture.
Then i put in a videocard in the PCIe slot and connected the monitor on the VGA output of the videocard.
I started up the computer and now i could see the start-up on the monitor, so the monitor and VGA cable are oke.
After installation of the software i saw that there where no speakers attached. Tested the speakers on a other the computer and the are oke. So i have allso a problem with the on-board speakeroutput.
It is a new motherboard and i went back the the shop and got another motherboard, installed it and started up the computer. I got the same problems with this new motherboard as with the one i had before.
I checked all the connections seferal times and did not find anything wrong.
With a videocard i could see in the BIOS. All the connected hardware was recognized.
What could be the problem with the on-board VGA, HDMI and the on-board speakeroutput.

How far has the build progressed? Got the OS installed yet? You have to have the audio driver loaded before you get the audio to work.

  • MOVED: How to use onboard VGA on 945GM2 with RX1300Pro graphics card plugged in?

This topic has been moved to Intel P4 & Celeron P4 based board.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=97199.0

Richard, 945GM2 doesn't have AGP bus anymore. It's PCIe.
However, it's a chipset "feature" that if you had a PCIe external display card hooked on, the chipset will disable the integrated graphics. There is no workaround.
