Kaffeine 0.4.2

just to inform all of you using kaffeine:
kaffeine 0.4.2 is an important bugfix and new-feature release - it makes kaffeine work with the newest xine-lib and kde 3.2.1
it's highly recomended to update kaffeine to 0.4.2
Author of Kaffeine wrote:
Kaffeine 0.4.2 released! A lot of work on stability was done. Many new
features added.
Fixed:
* moving playlist entries
* font encoding in the xine configuration dialog.
* the jerking time button
* a conflict with KDE 3.2 installation files
* some problems with xine-lib rc3b
And thats new:
* all meta/length information and CDDB entries are read on loading
* improved Kaffeine Setup dialog
* navigation in DVD menus with arrow keys and enter
* autoloading support for multiple subtitle files; selection in the
subtitle combobox of the main window
* automatic resize feature: main window will be adapted to the video
frame size
* playlist statusbar shows total entries and total play time
* file dialogs: remembers last directory; filter for all supported
media formats
* the --device switch sets DVD device too, path will no longer be saved
in the xine configuration
* parser for ram (real-time) playlists
* possibility to turn equalizer on/off
* support for audiocd:// URLs (audiocd kio-slave)
* konqueror servicemenus
* kpart/embedded: made the quicktime trailers on
http://www.apple.com/trailers working; the "coffee bean" button starts
playback in Kaffeine externally
* 16 translations now

Why am I getting this response to kaffeine upgrade?
[root@bill billb]# pacman -Sy kaffeine

Even if I do the upgrade I still seem to be running the older kaffeine and it crashes at loading.

  • Strange sound problem in kaffeine

    I have been trying to run avi's with kaffeine.  Everything seems to work great, picutre, music.  But then when someone starts talking, it is muffled, and distorted.  Any idea how to fix it.  I have tried several avi's, and they all do it.
    Thanks
    David

    I am not sure.  I think I have both installed.  How do I tell which one I am using?
    also, here is something else that is strange.  When I try running them in mplayer, it gives me this error.

    But when I open a movie in epiphany, it used mplayer, and plays just fine.  I don't know if it is related or not.

  • DVD playback blurry with Kaffeine/Xine

    Hi guys,
    I wanted to watch my first DVD under Linux yesterday and I noticed that the image quality is really, really bad compared to watching the same DVD under Windows with PowerDVD.
    DVD playback in Kaffeine with Xine engine is really blurry. Does anybody know what the reason could be? There's a lot of options for xine engine parameters in Kaffeine, but I don't have a clue about them. Any tipps appreciated.
    I've also tried kmplayer, but the image there has small black horizontal lines in it, which looks really weird. I thinks that's called interlaced, right? I'm a total video noob. ^^
    TIA,
    Blackhole

  • Kaffeine-1.0pre1 : could not open media source

    Hi,
    The new kaffeine using Qt4 has an issue when trying to play a video file or DVB-T:
    "Could not open media source"
    DVB-T channel scanning works perfectly. I guess there is a problem with the video output. Am I missing some dependency ?
    Thanks.

    had the same error. but i fixed it after googling for a long time
    install phonon-xine restart X/ reboot whatever!
    best regards

  • Kaffeine embedded crash fixed when compiled with libxcb support?

    From kaffeine website:
    Embedded Kaffeine crash fixed.
    This long standing bug is now fixed in current svn ...
    In order to make it possible, we have ported Kaffeine and xine to xcb (a thread-safe replacement for xlib).
    You can give it a try right now:
    1) install libxcb=>1.0
    2) install current xine-lib cvs (it contains xcb based video output plugins: xshm and xv)
    2) install current Kaffeine svn
    Notes
    a) Both xine-lib and Kaffeine have to be compiled with xcb support (autodetected, check configure results).
    b) Kaffeine will still work with xlib based video out plugins if compiled without xcb (but then, no fix!)
    From 0.8.4 changelog:
    * xine-part: support for xcb. Requires libxcb 1.0 and xine-lib 1.1.5. Fixes several issues.
    Any reason not to incorporate this? If it lives up to it's promises It could mean kde users only need ONE media player :-)  (I have 2 installed just to get DVD menus and embedding in konqueror without crashing)
    Any thoughts?
    Cheers,
    Steve.

    I felt that the laptop was possibly overheating and that is why I started down the road to call "customer support", thinking that a fan went out or there was damage to hardware due to it over heating.  And that road got me no where in a fast manner, and two "techs" telling me it was a software related issue and that I needed to reformat the laptop (twice) and re-install to factory settings.  Even when I did this, it still had the issue and they again told me that it was software related when there was no software on the computer except for Windows 7.  The only thing that customer support helped me with is the knowledge of next time I buy a laptop, but Dell or any other laptop besides a Toshiba.  That is too bad.
    Anyway, I tried to continue on with my thinking of a possible over heating issue, so I blew air into the vents and fins of the laptop.  A lot of dust came out.  I kept blowing air into the vents until no more dust came.
    My wife had to re-install everything again to her laptop after I got the major items re-installed.  She has been running it for the last day or so with no issues.  We hope that this was the issue.  I know she enjoys the laptop when it was running well.
    I guess we will see how it goes.

  • Sluggish video (mplayer, kaffeine) since KDE 4.2

    Hi.
    I'm running Arch64 on my home desktop with KDE4.2. Since the upgrade from 4.1 the performance of displaying any video content (DVB, avi files etc.) with either mplayer/smplayer or kaffeine (xine-backend) went down the drain.
    I can't really tell what it is, it just feels slow, it starts to stutter (and seems to repeat a couple of frames) every time you click somewhere else on the desktop or do something else like moving a window or opening KRunner. This is anoying because I used to put kaffeine on the second monitor to watch some TV (DVB) while working but I can't do that anymore. The sound plays ok, only displaying the video frames seems to be messed up.
    Maybe related to that, I can't use any of kaffeine's deinterlacing algorithms anymore. I have the feeling they look worse than before (more like 256 colors) and they drop the video framerate even further.
    I used to have a Nvidia Quadro NVS (which exhibited the problem) but replaced it with a GeForce 9500GT which at first seemed to reduce (but not solve) the problem. However, I have the feeling now that things stayed pretty much the same.
    I have TwinView enabled but also tried things without it - no change.
    I dropped my old xorg.conf in favor of a new (clean) one - no change.
    I tried different video outputs (xv, gl, gl2) - no change.
    I enabled/disabled desktop effects - no change.
    I tried different driver versions (currently using the 180.29-3 from pacman, but also tried 180.22, .27 and .35 in the past) - no change.
    The funny thing is that everything else works fine... desktop effects are smooth, even the video performance does not drop (further) when moving the video window itself with transparency and all that stuff.
    Any ideas where else to look?
    Thanks in advance.

    I should add that the problem seems to exist with other apps besides video as well. I tried with glxgears and by right and left clicking somewhere on the desktop I can make the wheels stutter even though the frame rate shown doesn't drop significantly (about 3800fps every time, even when opening KRunner).
    It seems to me, there's something wrong with updating Windows or anything on a regular basis. Somehow KDE seems to have an effect there. Besides, CPU consumption is never even close to 40% on each core and I had the problem with Qt 4.4 as well as 4.5.
    It's puzzling that I haven't found anything like that on the web or in other forums...

  • Kaffeine suddenly stopped dvb-t

    I was watching TV on my T41 (i386) with kaffeine when it suddenly stopped. All subsequent attempts to bring it back to life have failed. I tried scanning for channels, but all it does is jump through steps of 11%. CLI says:
    DvbDevice::frontendEvent: tuning failed
    in multiples. According to dmesg everything is recognized properly:
    dvb-usb: found a 'TerraTec/qanu USB2.0 Highspeed DVB-T Receiver' in warm state.
    dvb-usb: will pass the complete MPEG2 transport stream to the software demuxer.

    dvb-usb: schedule remote query interval to 50 msecs.
    dvb-usb: TerraTec/qanu USB2.0 Highspeed DVB-T Receiver successfully initialized and connected.
    I also tried gnome's dvb-t daemon. Unfortunately it gave me even less, i.e. not even CLI output. Google showed up a few similar probs and seemed to point to a kernel issue. So I booted my secondary system (MintDebian) to see whether things were different, but things were exactly the same. So if anybody's got any idea, please help a bloke on a camp site at minus 15 degrees Centigrade
    Oh, and the same device functions perfectly on my desktop with Arch 64-bit.

    I can't help but think part of the tv card has failed since it won't work in either os. How long ago was it that you tried it in the desktop ?

    VLC plays all DVDs just fine.
    Please, what can be the reason for the problems?
    PS: I forgot to mention, that I was definitely able to play DVDs with Kaffeine until yesterday. No upgrades on my system were made AFAIK.

    Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I just had the same problem even though yours happened six months ago I couldnt figure out how to change /dev/dvd to /dev/sr0 in kaffeine so I did a quick workaround: I removed /dev/dvd and softlinked /dev/sr0 to /dev/dvd and now everything works perfectly. Oddly enough how you said yours didnt work in mplayer or kaffiene but did in vlc, mine didnt work at all in any of them!

    ok, forget it, I solved it myself. The executable is located under /opt/kde/bin. It seems it is still kaffeine from kde3, therefore it is also not installed in the kde4-menu...
    thanks anyway :-)

  • Fluxbox + Kaffeine

    OK so I switched to Fluxbox, because didn't like Kde4 (although 4.1 is much better than 4.0).
    The problem is when I'm watching TV with Kaffeine, every time the resolution changes, the window resizes to about 1600x800 pixels, and I'm using 1280x1024 resolution. First I thought it was because I had used Fluxbox earlier when I had 1600x1200 resolution, and yes there was some Kaffeine setting in ~/.fluxbox/apps. But after I removed it the problem still occurs.. And I have also tried remember dimensions etc settings, doesn't help.

    The last bump.

  • Kaffeine jittery when watching tv from usb dvb Hauppauge 850

    At first, I could not get kaffeine to detect channels. Ubuntu, kaffeine worked great so I copied firmware folder from ubuntu to arch. After doing that, kaffeine had no problem detecting channels. When I go to a channel it plays jittery. Thought that this may be due to signal strenght so I did move the antenna around to see if the channel played better. No change. The quality is great. Just that it seems it is slightly out of sync. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Clean kaffeine 0.8.8 PKGBUILD

    Hi there,
    I want to stick to KDE3 kaffeine for now, because KDE4s is still a bit behind.
    But extra's kaffeine package changed to 1.0pre now. Can someone please help me changing the 1.0pre PKGBUILD into a 0.8.8?
    I read the wiki and basicly know whats done in the PKGBUILD. But I still can't figure out what to write under "build".
    Maybe that would do a great AUR package. As an example there are still users of amarok1. Similar situation.
    Thanks for any help.
    greetings, Yodo
    Edit: When my PKGBUILD starts compiling it complains that there is no "CMakeLists.txt" in the src dir. I have no idea how to avoid / fix that... I took the source from the kaffeine homepage.

    I don't know if you've had any success with this or not, but I've modified the old kaffeine 0.8.8 PKGBUILD and created a new one and submitted it to the AUR.  It's my first time creating a PKGBUILD, so there may be something wrong with it, but I've managed to get it working.  Here's the link :http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=36787

  • Kaffeine 0.8.5 problems "xine-part"

    After recently upgrading to Kaffeine 0.8.5 I can't play any movies without error..  "Loading of player part 'XinePart' failed. ... Details: Loading of player part 'XinePart' failed."   Reverting back to 0.8.4 resolves this problem.
    If I load kaffeine the "embedded" way (threw krusader) then nothing happens.. no play, and no error and for both 0.8.4 & 0.8.5.  I'm at a loss here scratching my head!
    I know the kaffeine project is moving to xcb instead of xlib but I believe both of these should still work..  Maybe it has something to do with these new changes.. anyone else have an idea?  Do other users have this problem with me or is something just "goofed" on my setup?
    Thankz

    No problems here at all (so far) after upgrading xine-lib.  Are you sure you upgraded both of them?
    Yes I upgraded both of them. But with Kaffeine 0.8.5 I get error if I choose opengl as video driver.Now I use 0.8.4 version. I don't have OSD but it works ok, and I can use opengl.

    Is there any way to build this or perhaps there is another dvb app that opens encrypted channels?

    Hi Fletch,
    It sounds like you don't have the packages installed that are necessary to use software from the AUR. This wiki page describes how to use the AUR and the prerequisites necessary: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AUR
