KB2850661 - which versions of windows should this apply to ?

Hi
There was a fix released for "Multiple user groups including Remote Desktop Users are missing after you upgrade to Windows 8 Pro using the Pro Pack" problem that was detailed under KB2850661.  On the page describing the problem it says it
applies to
Windows 8 Pro
Windows 8
It turns out I have what looks like exactly the same issue with Windows 8.1.  Now this was issue was actually *really* fixed with a patch (KB 2855336) that applied to all the following:
Windows 8
Windows 8 Enterprise
Windows 8 Pro
Windows Server 2012 Datacenter
Windows Server 2012 Essentials
Windows Server 2012 Foundation
Windows Server 2012 Standard
Windows RT
Can anyone comment as to whether this fix should also be applicable to Windows 8.1 which is displaying exactly the same symptoms ? I tried to manually apply the patch but it tells me that it is not applicable to my (windows 8.1 pro pack x64) system.
Thanks

Hi craigdrobinson,
Is the Windows 8.1 machine upgraded from the Windows 8 ?
"I've fixed this issue by refreshing my 8.1 pro version"
Do you mean you have resolved the issue by refreshing the machine or the issue persists ?
Obviously the KB 2855336 is not applied to Windows 8.1 Pro.
When did the issue start to occur ?Have you made any modifications to the machine or installed any third party software before this issue ?
First of all ,I would suggest you to run "dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth" or "sfc /scannow"to check the health of the system files .There is a possibility that the system files has corrupted.
Please ensure the machine has got the latest updates.

  • Which version of windows should I buy

What is the difference between Windows Vista for systems builders and the Retail Version of Windows Vista. Newegg.com sells both and there is over a $100 dollars price difference in price. I want to install Windows Vista on my recently purchased iMac and am not sure what to buy.

    *Retail Version*
You can purchase this version and install on your iMac. In the future you can uninstall this version and install on another Intel computer (PC or Intel Mac). You can do this repeatedly as long as you have it installed on ONE computer at a time. You are eligible for 90 days support from Microsoft also.
    *OEM Version (System Builders)*
You can purchase this version and install it on your iMAC. That is it. You cannot transfer it to another computer at all. This license does not allow you to transfer from computer to another. Its activation code is tied to the motherboard of your computer. This version performs just as fine as the Retail version however the difference, as noted above, is that it cannot be transferred.

  • Which Version of Windows 7 Should I use?

I hve a fairly new Macbook Pro. Mid 2012 Version just before the new display came out. My question is, which version of Windows 7 should I use? I've noticed that I can purchase either the 32Bit or 64Bit version, but I am not sure and don't want to load something that might be bigger than I need. I'll only be using Windows to run The Sims 3. This means over 9 expansion packs+ and their EA store content.
Here is what I am running on my mac:
    Model Name:          MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier:          MacBookPro9,2
      Processor Name:          Intel Core i5
      Processor Speed:          2.5 GHz
      Number of Processors:          1
      Total Number of Cores:          2
L2 Cache (per Core):          256 KB
      L3 Cache:          3 MB
      Memory:          4 GB
      Boot ROM Version:          MBP91.00D3.B08
      SMC Version (system):          2.2f38
      Serial Number (system):          C1MHN1TNDTY3
      Hardware UUID:          8CCE66F6-C4B6-5EDB-9CE7-FFB43E25F89D
      Sudden Motion Sensor:
      State:          Enabled
As you can tell this isn't a higher end Macbook Pro, as it was a gift, but I am unable to play the game without it crashing since they do not have an updated patch for Mac users - and it is very unlikely that they will even care to update the patch. This seems to be the only guarenteed fix. I appreciate any help I can get, I just need responses soon so I can take advantage of the low prices for Windows 7 before they run out.

Microsoft will be supporting Windows 7 with full updates for another two years, so you won't have to worry about supplies running out any time soon.

  • Which versions of Window can perform best with CiscoWorks?

    Hi,
Please advice that currently we have 3200 logical devices configured on CiscoWorks and CiscoWorks is running very very slow. CiscoWorks installed on server with Windows Server 2003 32-bit and this version of windows it can only support RAM up to 4GB, which is already installed. In order to increase the RAM we have to upgrade the windows version as well.
Please advise that which versions of Window can perform best with CiscoWorks.  E.g. Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 1 (SP1), Standard Edition 64-bit: or Windows server 2008 etc. Please advise us the full windows release version as we will upgrade windows as per your suggestion.
We are currently using the LMS 3.2, RME 4.3.0, CM 5.2.1

Please refer to the Installation Guide for Windows server requirements. Here is the link:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_lan_management_solution/3.2/install/guide1/prereq.html#wp1099303
Given that you want to stay with Windows Server, Server 2008 Standard Edition with service Pack 2 would be your best choice.
NOTE that your should not (and cannot) use Server 2008 R2. That version in only supported with LMS 4.0.1. LMS 3.2 will not work with Server 2008 R2.
With a 64-bit OS, you can increase your RAM - which is usually constraining system performance on systems with 32-bit OS. I recommend just putting in 16 MB. Why skimp on $100 RAM with $20,000 software?
Your other alternative is to divide the server roles across several machines. That is a pretty complex task so I'd do the OS and RAM upgrade first and see how that helps you out.
Re "Linux" LMS 3.2 (and 4.0/4.0.1) is only supported on Windows and Solaris operating systems. Plus if you're not a Uniux admin, the learning curve can be steep for your first dip in the water.

  • Which version of Windows to run?

I was wondering if anyone has tested out Windows on the 2.53 ghz macbook pro yet? if so, which version of Windows runs the best on this model (XP 32 bit, Vista 64 bit, or 7 64 bit)? I have access to these 3 versions of windows right now, and want to know what the best option is. I really don't have any software that requires vista or 7, but I just spent over $75 to acquire Windows 7, so if it's as unstable as this forum leads me to believe, then I'll stick to XP. thanks!

Apple drivers may be buggy or not up to the task, but Windows 7 is what Vista should have been.
If you want, try running Windows 7 that you have already in Sun's VirtualBox and see how it goes, won't be native, not ideal for gaming, but I've used 7 for a full year now - I would never say it was buggy or unstable at all.

  • Which version of SCOM is this ?????

    Hi All,
Question may sound silly, But i don't know a answer for it hence raised this question.
I was reading this blog and found this type of a SCOM which i have never seen in the below link.
    http://www.opsmanager.se/2012/11/06/text-log-monitoring-part-1/
There is no Administration, Authoring, Monitoring TAB at all ?
Does anyone have any idea which version of SCOM is this ?
    Gautam.75801

This is authoring console screen capture and not a operations console. This is the reason why you cannot see Administration, Authoring, Monitoring TAB .
If you want to create a text file log monitoring using SCOM, you should refer to the following link

  • How do I determine which version of windows os is installed on the computer that my application is running on.

I need to determine which version of windows os in on the computer running my application to make some minor adjustments to a subvi.  Is there a programmatic way to determine this using Labview.

Or, use the Application property node Application>OS>Detailed Name.  Although I can't say anything about its output on other-than-Windows OSes.

  • Which version of Dreamweaver should I be learning. CS6 or CC? Why are they different?

Which version of Dreamweaver should I be learning. CS6 or CC? Why are they different?  I am learning CS6 in school, I wanted to practice at home so I joined Creative Cloud.  Although both versions are available,  I understand that the DWCC is the most recent version and CS6 will be faded out.  I'm half way through CS6 and now see there are a lot of differences in the format of CC.

Jon has the best answer here, though nancy's absolutely correct. I have seen no instruction manuals for the Creative Cloud version of Dreamweaver.
Fact is, while there are differences, if you learn CS6, Creative Cloud won't be too much of a stretch. I would suggest that there are lots of differences between Dreamweaver MX (released 29 May 2002) and Creative Cloud (released this year). So, if you're looking at an old MX tutorial, it's probably a good idea to purchase a different book and tutorial.
Dreamweaver is, essentially, a code editor. This is absolutely crucial for you to understand. It's not like Adobe's InDesign, a drag-and-drop WYSIWYG page layout tool. The Worldwide Web is entirely based on HyperText Markup Language, which is in its 4th version, with a 5th proposed and on the cusp of being agreed to. Dreamweaver started supporting HTML5 with CS 5.5 (version 11.5).
So, if what you do is go out and buy books on HTML 4, XHTML and HTML5, you will be learning what is really required in Dreamweaver. As to the Dreamweaver interface, it's a bunch of panels that can, pretty much, be ignored. If you edit in Split View, you will see your web page as you build it (but it won't really be correct unless you switch to Live View, which does not update as you edit). And you still have to check everything out in a browser (two or three would actually be good).
So, do your tutorials on CS6 because they'll pretty much give you a good enough idea about how Dreameaver CC works, but learn HTML and CSS. Otherwise, you'll find yourself hopelessly lost.

and isnt ipad supposedly locked to at&t and verizon????

They aren't locked in this edition for worldwide use. However I don't believe you can use an AT&T on Verizon and vice versa. If you have CDMA service you will need the Verizon iPad.

  • Which versions of Windows 7/8 are supported/best for Boot Camp 4/5?

    Hello
As the title suggests, I'm a bit confused as to which versions of Windows 7 work with Boot Camp 4, or whichever ships with Mountain Lion (which one, 4 or 5, comes with ML 10.8.3?).
Mainly, I want to know if I can use an OEM copy, and what difference it makes to me, the end user, as opposed to a full license disk. Additionally, which service packs are supported? Eg, SP1 or SP2 or ...?
Lastly, and this is more of an opinion question, but is Windows 7 or 8 better suited to a Mac? I have 2.5 GHz i5 processor, 8GB RAM, ML 10.8.3, Macbook Pro 13-inch Mid-2012.

You can get a better idea of which version are supported by each Boot Camp version in this website > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
In general, Boot Camp 4 supports 32-bit Windows XP, and 32 and 64-bit Windows Vista and 7, and Boot Camp 5 supports 64-bit Windows 7 and 8 versions (in compatible computers).
You can use a OEM or System Builder license, always that you have bought it from a source like Amazon or NewEgg. If you are trying to use the copy you got from another PC, it won't work. Boot Camp supports Windows XP SP2 and later, so all service packs released after it are supported.
Windows 8 has been out for a few months and it has got a new interface. If you don't want to learn a new interface, go for Windows 7. Both versions will work properly on your computer, so it's a matter of personal choices

Point it to the 2013 CAS, it will handle both versions. Note that autodiscover is version specific, so in reality it will work no matter what version of CAS the autodiscover DNS record points to, but best practice is to get pointing to the 2013 CAS so you
    can check that off.

  • Which version of windows 7 to load on imac

Just purchased an Imac (intel processor) and would like to run Windows 7 via Bootcamp.
    Which version of Win7 should I purchase/load.

  • Which version of Windows Server 2012 needs to be ordered so that I can downgrade to Windows Server 2008 64bit Standard SP2

    Dears in Microsoft,
We need to have Windows Server 2008 Standard SP2 64bit to be installed and due to the fact it is no more available in Microsoft.
I am going to order Windows 2012 with 16 CAL in order to downgrade it to Windows 2008 Standard SP2 64bit. My question is:
    1. Which version of Windows Server 2012 needs to be ordered so that I can downgrade to Windows Server 2008 64bit Standard SP2?
    2. what else required in terms of product key, media, license...etc?
    Appreciate your kind supports.
    thanks and best regards

Any licensing questions are always best addressed by a trained Microsoft licensing specialist.  You can find whom to call by looking at www.microsoft.com/licensing.
One of the built-in rights of a Windows Server license is the right to run earlier versions of the operating system.  So if you purchase either Standard or Datacenter, you can run 2008 Standard.
However, that does not provide the media or activation codes for earlier versions of the operating sytem.  You have to obtain those via other channels.  You should most likely contact a Microsoft reseller and talk to them.  They will
most likely have a trained licensing specialist on hand to help answer your questions, and they should also be able to provide media for earlier distributions (for a slight fee).

  • Which version of Windows (XP, Vista, 7?) is best for MacBook 2.2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, OS 10.6.8 when using boot camp?

    Hi all,
I am about to install boot camp, and I was wondering which version of Windows works best for my Mac.

you really have only one choice, Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium but you can save by buying the System Builder edition.

  • Which version of iPhoto should I use?

When I picked up my repaired MacBook (Intel Core Duo) the person at the Apple Store showed me how to restore all of its data using my Time Machine backup.  He told me that during the repair they had installed Snow Leopard.  He had forgotten that I had told him when the MacBook first died we were told it was not worth repairing and we purchased a new MacBook Pro running Lion.  The TM backup was from that machine.  The intent was to have two machines with the same Apps & data so each of two users could take either machine and go forward from that point.  Each machine would then have its own TM Backup.
After many discussions with tech support, almost everything except iPhoto (and incoming Apple Mail) on the MacBook works OK.  That's probably because during the restore, iPhoto 9.1.5 was installed.  It does not open because of a Frameworks conflict of some sort.  Earlier versions of iPhoto say the Library was created with a newer version.  (I temporarily moved the iPhoto Library out of my User>Pictures Folder, opened iPhoto 7.x and imported some photo's to create a new Library.  That worked.  My original Library is 35 GB so each attempt to fix anything in it has been time consuming.  That's why I'm asking the real experts.
I've seen a suggestion from Terrance Devlin to "rebuild" the Library using the iPhoto Library Manager and others by Terrance, Neil, Old Toad, and Kappy to drag a different version of Frameworks into System>Library>?  (Apparently, some OS X 10.7 support files were loaded onto the MacBook.)  Which ones and which version?
Which version of iPhoto should I use on the MacBook?  Which version does OS X 10.6.8 support?  Eventually, we'd also like to merge some of the individual Libraries into a shared Library.  Is iPhoto Library Manager the best way to do that?  (Speaking of that, I understand Apple does not support backup of non-Lion Mac's via Wi-Fi, except if using Time Capsule.  Seagate sells an external 2 TB Hard Drive that connects via ethernet to your Router, for that purpose.  Does it work well?)

    Terence,
Below is a copy of the Problem Report I get after I double click the iPhoto (9.1.5) icon in my Applications folder.  Both iPhoto 6 and iPhoto 7 open but cannot read my iPhoto Library that was restored from a Lion TM backup.  I tried moving my iPhoto Library out of the Pictures folder and was able to create a new one using iPhoto 7.1.5.
Inside of System>Library, there are two copies of the following folders:
    Frameworks
    PodcastProducer
    Keychains
    Java
In each case, the name of the second folder includes "(from old Mac)" without the quotes after the folder name.  I believe my issue is being caused by the System using Frameworks instead of Frameworks (from old Mac), but I have not been able to switch them easily and, as you said, do not want to do serious damage.
The only other thing that does not work properly is incoming IMAP mail via AOL and Google.  Outgoing works on those two plus Incoming and Outgoing work on the Verizon POP account.
