Kbdmgr.exe not loading at startup

Running 10.5.1 with boot camp and using Xp Pro on my mac book i am having an issue where the file kbdmgr.exe (boot camp manager) is not loading and running at startup. In my spy-bot under the start up section it is listed but when i actually do start up it won't load by itself, a check of running processes shows it is not loaded at all. If i go into C:/program files/boot camp and run it by clicking the exe from there it will.
The main reason this is a concern is that when it is not loaded all my brightness and volume controls dont work.
Can anybody help with this issue

I'm running Bootcamp 2.0.1 on the Air under Vista; the kbdmgr program is not consistant; if the light level increases the keyboard goes out, if the light level falls it does not return unless you kill and re-launch kbdmgr.exe; at that point the lights on the keyboard restore.

    Hi,
the NFSv4 domain name is not necessarily related to the host name or the host's fully-qualified domain name (FQDN). It can be the same like the domain name, but it does not have to.
To find the corrent NFSv4 domain name, you have to look it up in the NFSv4 server's configuration files.
    Kind regards,

  • Module not loading at startup + logs

I am having a problem getting my rtl8187 module to load at startup. This is my wireless driver. At startup my wireless refuses to work. I check my modules "lsmod" and the rtl8187 module appears to be loaded. However my wireless only starts working after I remove the module and then reload it.
Can somebody tell me where I can find the log that will tell me whats going on with this module at startup.

Can somebody tell me where I can find the log that will tell me whats going on with this module at startup.
You say the module gets loaded, as does lsmod. So there will be no error message, as the system thinks the module is working(which it probably is). The reason your wireless is not working may be another issue. In order for some things to work correctly certain things need be loaded before other things can access them.
anyway, all error logs are in /var/log, shouldn't take you long to look through them. They are dated.

  • Lela 3 icon does not load at startup

I was advised by level 2 support to download, uninstall current v1 lela, install new v3 lela to resolve issue when I updated my firmware.  That issue was the online admin showed I was secured but Lela said I was not.  I installed new version and all went okay.  I noticed when I reboot or turn on computer, the Linksys icon does not appear in the system tray next to the clock.  I looked at my msconfig and linksys agent is not even listed.  I searched my c:\ and found nothing that contained linksys agent in it's name.  If I launch lela from the programs menu, the icon appears and stays there until I shutdown and restart or reboot.  Then it does not load.  What do I need to do to resolve this?  I feel as if I'm bot secured and don't like it.  Please help.
Also, I didn't see a proper forum for this so excuse me being off topic.  When I created my forum profile, for whatever reason I kept getting the error that I wasn't entering a valid email address.  I tried several times.  I had to resort to using a fictitous email address.  I want to use my valid email address so I can be notified of responces.  If someone can, please advise how to remedy this situation.
    Thank you

I changed my userid so this is the originator adding additional comments.  I read a post about the latest firmware updates not being compatible with the v3 of lela.  I rolled back my firmware as the post advised.  Still no icon in system tray.  Do I need to uninstall/install lela again?  Seeing I had so many problems with the install to begin with, the icon is a minor detail as long as I am truly protected, I hope I don't have to go thru the install again.

  • Ipfw2 will not load on startup

Followed instructions on apple's snow leopard security configuration guide, but on restart ipfw conf file will not load (via ipfw.plist on lauch Daeomons). Even wierder is that terminal instruction to load ipfw conf file, actually give the error "Bad command 'sudo'" . Any suggestions would be most welcome.

  • Extensions not loading on startup

I am having an issues with Add-ons and Extensions not loading when I start Firefox, in order to get them working I have to manually disable then enable to get them to load.
I have tried disabling each extension to see if one was interfering but to no avail.
The only extensions that are not effected by this issue are ones that require Firefox to be restarted whenever they are enabled or disabled.
Using Elementary OS Luna (Ubuntu Linux 32 bit) and Firefox is at its latest version.

It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.
Delete the extensions.* files (e.g. extensions.json, extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.

New files will be created when required.

If you see disabled or not compatible extensions in "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left end of the Search bar to check if there is a compatibility update available.
You can check for problems with preferences.
Delete possible user.js and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

  • Dock & App Switcher not loading at startup

    I recently purchased a new 2 x Quad core 2.93GHz Nehalem-based Mac Pro.
About two of three times when I start the computer, the dock and application switcher will not load for 20 to 90 seconds after the rest of the computer has finished loading. I thought I had tracked it down to two applications that were consistently mentioned in the console log, but I uninstalled them and the problem has continued in the past several weeks since they were removed. I also just updated to 10.5.8, hoping that this would solve the issue, but it did not.
At the end of this post I have pasted the error messages from the log that coincide with this issue. When the dock fails to load for a longer period of time, the log shows many more repetitions of this error.
I have contacted Apple tech support directly about this and they have not been able to help.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? Has anyone found a solution?
    Thanks!

If nothing else succeeds, then it may prove quicker to just reinstall OS X which you can do as follows:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

CB is correct that on many models the Flash Cards are controlled by the TVAP. But, some models, like your model, have a separate Toshiba Flash Card Utility (TFCU). You need install both programs in that order TVAP then TFCU.
Download to your desktop and double click to install these 2 utilities in this order, reboot after installing each one.
    Toshiba Value Added Package
    Toshiba Flash Cards Support Utility
If the 'Flash Cards' don't appear at the top of the screen when you hit the 'Fn' key, then click the 'Start' button and type the word flash in the search field. In the programs that appear at the top, you should see 'Restart Flash Cards' and 'Settings for Flash Cards'. First, click on 'Restart Flash Cards', then again click on 'Start' and type in the word flash in the search field. This time click on 'Settings for Flash Cards', and make sure there is NOT a check mark on 'Disable all function keys', click 'Apply' and 'OK'.  Then try the Function key/Flash cards again.
Let us know what happens. Good luck.

  • Not loading correct startup prefs (safe mode?)

Trying to rebuild my system after a hard drive failure (backup on external drive was somehow corrupted as well). Luckilly, my ipod contained all my music (although I did lose all movies and TV shows) and was up to date.
I have my new system configured with my Home directory on it's own volume so that my data is separate from OS. I have Time Machine backing up my home directory and a clone of startup volume---both on separate physical disk (so that if primary disk fails, I'm instantly back-in-business)!
So I executed the Terminal script necessary to access hidden files, and was able to copy all the music back to my system using seruti (or whatever it is), and was in the process of copying all the playlists I had sync'd ... but I couldn't copy them because iTunes kept automatically launching when I connected the iPod, and therefore preventing Seruti from maintaining "control" of connected ipod (which is the only way it can "see" what's on the iPod). So I went into System Prefs to disable iTunes Helper from default startup items... but when I logged back in, both Microsoft Daemon and iTunes Helper were gone from the list, and then when when I rebooted, ALL my preferences were gone. Wallpaper, apps in the dock -- it didn't even prompt me to login.. it just went straight into an account with no previous history (asked me to agree to iTunes EULA).
Thank god I have a clone of the startup volume... I booted from that, and everything was okay. Interesting thing is, Advanced Settings for my account are same on both volumes -- reading from my Home directory on that separate volume. Or... at least, one would think since the path is the same on both volumes. But logging into each produces different results.
Can anyone shed light as to what happened, and how I might go about fixing it?
It just ocurred to me to mention that I - per an instruction I read regarding the process - to hold down Command + Option when connecting my iPod which would prevent iTunes from automatically syncing. However, I was still prompted, but saw a message that iTunes was launching in Safe Mode. Does that mean that the OS on my primary startup volume is launching in Safe Mode, but the one on my clone is launching normally? It would certainly explain why it loads fine from one but not the other given that account settings are same on both.
If that IS the case, how do I disable Safe Mode?
    Many MANY thanks in advance!!

I called AppleCare... the first guy I spoke to left me on hold for quite a while after he finally understood what was happening. But when he came back on, we got disconnected, and he never called me back (even though he asked for my number when we first started talking).
I called back, and explained everything to the second guy... who, brought more to the table from a troubleshooting perspective, but was ultimately unable to figure it out, and said that I'd have to call back tomorrow and start over because his "product specialists" were gone for the day, and he wasn't able to create a ticket for such a unique problem.
    Wow.
I haven't felt this beaten down in quite a while. Isn't there anyone out there who can shed some light? I don't really have time to spend another 3 hours on the phone.
What's interesting now is that, even though I'm trying to copy my Home folder over to the primary startup volume, and I've set permissions "read/write" for everyone.. it still won't let me copy -- says I don't have permission.
This is soooo frustrating. Everything was fine until I started dorking around with it in an attempt to recover music from my iPod because Apple hasn't figured out a way to cover their ***** from a Digital Rights Management perspective while still allowing users a way to recover their music in such a scenario.
Now I don't know what to do. Do I rebuild from scratch and just bit the bullet on having OS and data on same volume? Maybe this is how I have to do it:
    _*Physical Disk A*_ (500GB)
    - Partition 1: System - 220GB
    - Partition 2: TimeMachineClone - 220GB
    - Partition 3: Downloads - 40GB
    _*Physical Disk B*_ (500GB)
    - Partition 1: SystemClone (Bootable) - 220GB
    - Partition 2: TimeMachine - 220GB
    - Partition 3: Scratch - 40GB
    _*External Disk*_ (250GB)
    - Partition 1: TimeMachineClone

  • Why are my saved bookmarks randomly not loading on startup even if I have saved them earlier?

Whenever I exit the firefox, I am asked if I want to save the current bookmarks so they will be loaded automatically next time I use the internet. Lately, they haven't been loading automatically even though my laptop is not crashing.

Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.<br />
Use "File > Exit" or "Firefox > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit Firefox") if you want to restore multiple windows.<br />
You can use "History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time.<br />
You may need to click the orange/gray Firefox button to see History.<br />
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default <b>about:home</b> Home page.<br />
    Another possibility is to use:
    * [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Menu_differences Firefox/Tools > Options] > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"
Make sure that you do not use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the 'Browsing History' when you close Firefox.

  • Floppy module not loading at startup

On OL6, I noticed that the floppy module is not getting loaded when I am running the base (red hat) kernel, but it does when I am running the uek kernel. Can someone explain why this is happening?

I'm just trying to figure out why the floppy module is automatically loaded with one kernel (oracle kernel in this situation), but it is not with another (red hat kernel in this situation). When I run modprobe floppy, it sees the drive right away and I'm able to mount it without any problems. If it is because one kernel detects the floppy drive and the other one doesn't, why is that happening? What is different about the 2 kernels that causes them to handle the floppy drive differently?

  • Application Launcher not loading at startup

Hi all! I hope you can help me out on this one. We have maybe 60 or so PC's all running Zen version 6.5.0.4.On certain occasions we will have tow or three different computers not start the application launcher on startup.I will have them restart the PC and usually, it starts up the next time. A couple of times it has not worked and I had to re-install Zen to get it to work. The same workstation will have the same problem maybe a couple months down the road. We are all running Windows XP SP2. Is there any issue or anything we could possibly do to find out why this happening? It is usually a quick fix to get it working, but the people FREAK OUT! when it doesn't work and I always like to avoid that.
    Thanks Y'all!

I guess it depends on how it's launched.
The Login Script is not 100% reliable for some folks, but has for me.
The StartUp Folder is the official method, but I personally have always used
    the "Run" registry key.
