Kcsync asking for a password you don't know? Here's a solution

If you get a persistent request for a password when syncing your keychains here's the fix.
open Terminal
copy this string at the prompt and hit enter:
/System/Library/Frameworks/SecurityFoundation.framework/Versions/A/kcSync.app/Co ntents/MacOS/kcsync -reset
Make sure it is exactly as it appears here.
you will then get a response somewhat like:
dotmacfx[6621:903] removing /Library/Keychains/.syncinfo/login.keychain.syncinfo.plist was successful.
Quit Terminal
kcsync should then stop asking for a password every time you sync your keychains

Yes, it's the password for your Apple iD.
If you can't remember the password, open iTunes on your computer.
From the iTunes menu bar click Store > Sign In > Forgot?

  • When I sync my Ipad and Mac I get a message from itunes to allow access with an email address I no longer use and asks for a password I don't know how do I remove the old email

Whwn I sync my ipad I get a message from itunes to sign into my account but the email used is not my email and I don't have a password for the email it used - how do I get rid of the email address for itunes on the ipad - itunes on the Mac work just fine - but not on the ipad

    Hello Tonchee
If you are seeing an Apple ID that is not yours, then you have purchased content on your iPad that is tied to that Apple ID. You would need to know that password or remove the content that is associated with that Apple ID.

  • Emailing a photo, asked for my password(never done that before.  I put in my computer password, wouldn't take it.  Now just keeps coming up with wrong password, cancel or OK, but won't let me enter another password, so can't email a photo?

I tried to email a photo yesterday (on gmail).  It asked for a password (never done that before), and I put in my computer password, and it rejected it.  Came up with OK or Cancel.  OK, box went away.  Cancel, it said do you really want to delete this email.  It would not come up with another box.  I think I was supposed to put in my gmail password probably.  I can still use regular email, but can't send a photo, the same thing keeps happening.  I even turned off my computer thinking that might reset it.  I cannot figure out where this password thing came up.  I checked the preferences, nothing there except requiring password for other people to see my photos, which is not checked.  I am stumped.

Actually, no it doesn't. You can email a photo with Gamil via any Mail client and/or web browser.
    iPhoto Menu ->
    Preferences ->
    Accounts ->
Delete and recreate your email settings.
Alternatively, use Apple's Mail for the job. It has Templates too - and more of them.

  • HT201363 my ipad went on update and now asking for passcode which i don't know

my ipad went on update and now asking for passcode whcih i don't know what should i do now to start operating

    Hey sunny1008,
Thanks for the question. The following article provides some solutions if you are having issues with passcode lock:
iOS: Forgotten passcode or device disabled after entering wrong passcode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212
If you have never synced your device with iTunes, or you do not have access to a computer
If you see one of following alerts, you need to erase the device:
"iTunes could not connect to the [device] because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the [device] before it can be used with iTunes."
"You haven't chosen to have [device] trust this computer"
If you have Find My iPhone enabled, you can use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
Alternatively, place the device in recovery mode and restore it to erase the device:
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to shut down.
    3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
    5. iTunes will alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then restore the device.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Why is my iPod Touch asking for a password I don't have?

My iPod Touch has been working fine for two years and I was using it last night. This morning, when I turned on my iPod Touch, it asked for a password. It didn't show the regular 10-digit number pad, it came up with a pad that showed the letters and numbers, the one you would find when you search for stuff on an iPod Touch.
My password setting is off and hasn't been tinkered with for over a year. No one but me had used the iPod Touch for the past few days. I have tried all the passwords I could think of and now I'm disabled from my iPod Touch, haha... ughh.
How can I get this fixed without taking a trip to the Apple store or restoring it?

Sometimes the iDevices just go haywire and ask for a password out of nowhere. Or, could have somebody got hold of your iPod and set it up and entered a password?

  • My Mac is asking me for keychain password. Don't know what the password is or why I need to enter it.

Keep getting asked to supply keychain password. I don't know the password. If I click on cancel the arrow becomes a color wheel and spins around. Unable to figure out how to correct this so I can use the computer.

    OS X version?
    Asking for "Local items keychain"?

  • I am trying to restore my iphone to my itune and it is asking for a password and I dont know it?

I just got my replacement phone and I need to restore my information but it will not allow me to since it is asking for a password I dont remember?

I assume you mean the phone is asking for the 4 digit password you set at the time of the backup of the phone...

  • I was told to restore my i phone as my battery wasnt working well. I made sure i backed up my iphone and transferred my purchases before restoring it. When i try to restore it to my back up settings it keeps asking for a password which i dont know?

My battery was not working properly (kept running out over a few hours.) I was advised at the apple store to restore my iphone which i did. When i try to restore it to my back up it keeps asking for a password but i have  no idea what this password is? could anyone help?

If your backup is encrypted, you cannot restore without the password.
You can continue to backup but you cannot restore without password.
There's no way to retrieve the password.
Warning: Make sure it's a password you will remember or write it down for safekeeping. If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and forget your password, you can't restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable.

i have been given an apple mac powere pc g5 , can i update it and use it normally also when it asks to update it asks for a password which i dont have , can this be reset ?

Updating or upgrading depends on what version of OS X you are running. A G5 Mac can not go further than Leopard 10.5.8 as all later versions of OS X require an Intel preocessor.

  • Setup for bb Torch is asking for a password, I don't have one

I need to reset an existing email and setup is now asking me to login with a user name and password, this has not been the case in the past on my phone.  I do not have a password enabled on my phone.
It will give a forgotten password option and asks for a username.  No matter what email address I give it tells me the password was sucessfully sent to my blackberry, but it does not apear in any of my email addresses.
Why is this happening and better yet how to I solve it?/
I have shut off the phone; taken out the sim card and battery and started back up and that doesn't change it either.
    Help!

I got tired of waiting for you and your response is still not the answer.  I called ATT they transferred me to blackberry who transferring me back to blackberry techinical support at ATT, left me on hold for a very long time and disconnected me.  Finally got in touch with ATT techinical support and they SOLVED the issue!!!!
What must have occured is that in the updating of the software over time for BB is that they require a password for the phone, since I never established a password for my phone the only way for me to fix the issue was for them to establish a password for me.
For other frustrated blackberry users when needing to change settings on exisiting email and you run into a required password, call your carrier and their technichal support can get you up and running with a password.

  • When I try to HotSync with my PC it asks for a password, I don't remember setting my palm with a password, how do I find out what the password is?

    Thank you.
    Post relates to: Tungsten E

It would be best if you could guess what password you might have set on the palmpilot. If you can't, then (on my PalmOS 5.2.1 PDA) I can tap "security" on the home screen, then tap the "Assigned" box, & finally do the "Delete a password" procedure. You will lose whatever data is password protected.
    Good luck

  • I get to where it says adobe wants to make changes, asks for a password, i do not know the psswd???

i am stuck and have tried everything i know!

    Hello,
The password you need to enter is your Mac password.  When installing software on Mac, Mac requires a user (administrator) password in order to install the software.
P.S.  You created two identical threads.  I have deleted your other duplicate thread.

  • New PC asks for authorization and I don't know the password

I purchase a new PC for my wife and transferred the itunes library via an external drive.   I then auhorized the new computer on her account (she has about 2,300 songs).  When I tried to sync her ipod, it came back and said that 221 songs would be deleted from her ipod unless she authorized her account.   The authorization window came up and the Apple ID it prestored was an email account she had years ago that she no longer has.  My sense is that her ipod contains songs from 2 different itunes accounts.  She does not know the password of this old account.  I get prompted for "did you forget the password" and it says it is sending the password to the email address for the apple id.  Problem is that email address does not exist anymore so I am stuck.
The best I can tell is that her old PC had both Apple IDs authorized and she has had that PC for years so her ipod and iphone has worked fine.  Any idea how to get into the old Apple ID if we don't have the password.  The other choice I see is to lose the 221 songs.
    Thanks

Here's what you need to do. First plug the iPad mini into your computer. When you get the message about iTunes not being able to access the iPad because it's password protected, press and hold the power button and home button at the same time. Hold these buttons down all the way through the reboot until the apple goes away. After that you should a graphic of a USB cable and the iTunes symbol. When you see that release the buttons. Close out of the error message in iTunes. You should now be able to restore and update your iPad mini and set it up as a new device, or even restore it from your backup if you have one.
