KDE desktop does not come up after log out

I have updated KDE to the lastest version using the Arch packages. It worked wonderfully the first time, all of my widgits were intact and my desktop was just as I had left it, custom background and everything. Then, however, I logged out to make sure Fluxbox worked. Now, even after rebooting, the KDE desktop doesn't come up. It will bring up Pidgin which was running before but the taskbar and all of the widgets are gone and it has this grey background that is the same as the one in the KDM.
No errors are produced, although it does now ask for the password for a Wallet that "Plasma Desktop" wants to access. I recognise the name of the wallet (kdewallet) and input the password correctly after this, two notifications pop up with informational thing. One is about some indexing service being "rebuilt" for new features and the other is saying that it's falling back on a different sound output. None of this seems to have an impact on the limited usability I have.
Has anyone else expereinced this? Are there any log files where errors would be outputted to?
Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not entirely sure what is going on here.
After the top line of that post, there are a LOT of errors related to "No block with decorrelation terms" in fact the vast majority of that file are those things. All other "errors" are warnings related to my Fluxbox session which is working fine.
Lines 1, 11 and 12 seem to be the most severe errors:

i think the most interesting feature is the support of window-tiling... i always wanted to try out some tiling wm but never wanted to leave my so much beloved KDE environment

Um, you DO know that you've been able to use the Webkit KPart with Konqueror for over 1 year now, do you not? As a matter of fact, it is the ONLY way Konqueror is remotely usable as an internet browser. Arre there that few improvements in KDE4.5 that they have to advertise a 1 year old ability?
KHTML is an albatross, and Konqueror is in a primitive state compared to ANY other web browser out there--even Internet Explorer. I'd love to love Konqueror, but they need to fix it. It hasn't had ANY noticeable improvement done to it since KDE4.1

In PS module transaction CJ40 after detail planning back button throws out

In CJ40 primary cost planning we come back to annual view by clicking back button now if i press back button system throws out from transaction CJ40 . rather to come back to element overview screen. Anybody can give me solution for this as the user suffer most during the cost planning of project having more than 100 WBS. if by mistake he click button in middle of his work . all his work lost and he has to do it again it should ask for saving or not . please give me solution

Are you uploading the data manually through transaction code?
It is better if you create a program to manage planning data and upload the data at one go. You will save a lot of time.
You can use FM 'KBPP_EXTERN_UPDATE_CO' for CJ40.
You can also go for BDC recording but if there is a FM or a BAPI available for it then better is to use FM/BAPI.

I am a member of a Family Plan run by my daughter (out of the country for a week)and even with her ID and password, Verizon does not accept my sign-in attempt when I could not answer her Secret Question.   With a dead phone, I cannot get from Verizon including a PIN. I can use my husband's phone (also in the Familhy Plan) but Verizon does not allow access to anyone but the registered plan administrator. My phone number-- with decades of phone bills from Verizon --- is "not recognized. " Huh?
I am so frustrated. HELP!! How can I access Verizon:
--to buy a phone and add to Family plan;
--delete dead phone from plan;
--learn the gory financial details of a contract, and
--arrange for that new phone to be shipped to me.

Trying to downgrade storage plan - "Free" is grayed out!

For some reason I have the 1TB storage plan (don't know how, I didn't select it ever, and I have nothing in iCloud!).
I want to downgrade, but when I select the "Free" option, the "Done" button is grayed out!
When I select any other option, it's not grayed out.
Please help!

Planning app automatically logs out

However, when I boot up, it asks me to choose my language. I choose English and click the forward arrow, the screen goes gray and it takes me back to the language screen. And now I can't get back to the login screen. So, I'm not able to set up another account.
If I can get back to the login screen, I'll try logging in as root.
Any advice on getting this back?

Planning Sequence/Function times out

Hello,
I have the following issue. I have a planning layout and many planning sequences/functions attached to the push buttons on the layout. The problem is that when I am trying to execute any of the planning sequences attached to the buttons (click the button), the "wheel keeps spinning" and eventually the application times out without computing anything. it works fine in Development and QA systems, but not in P. the only difference between the 3 environments is the Support Stack level. in P we are still on SPS 11 and D and QA is SPS 13.
I suppose there can be multiple reasons for why this is happening, but what should I be looking for first? Why does it time out? It does not seem to matter how many records PF is processing, because it times out with 4 records and 40K records. Any ideas or pointers to look at?

please try if your planning sequences run in the back-end report RSPLS_PLSEQ_EXECUTE. If you have variables you need to define a variant to start it in the back-end. You should measures the time here ...
And what kind of time out are you getting? Is it a portal time out? In this case you should consider that in you production system much more data may be read and that executing the planning sequences may take longer -> time out ...

THE click on feature to sign on log out of certain applications has stopped working for me

That problem is caused by the Yahoo! Toolbar that extents too much downwards and covers the top part of the browser window and thus makes links in that part of the screen not clickable.

Does the "Zero Out Data" feature in Disk Utility map out bad sectors/blocks?

I would like a definite answer on this one. I have heard that is does and that it doesn't.

Yes it does.
The way it works is this, your drive normally tries to write to sectors and if it can't write to one or more, then it writes someplace else and maps the bad sectors off in the driver software.
That's how it's supposed to work.
What I believe what happens is drives are made, but not checked for bad sectors at the factory as this is a considerable time consuming process.
So when a computer comes down the line, it's hard drive is just injected factory style the data it needs right on the drive, over bad sectors and everything.
Now it could be that, and or it could be the result of time and the drive sitting and being shipped. Normally the heads are locked.
Whatever, if you move a drive while the heads are over the platters, they can strike the platters and cause data loss from bad sectors. So it's important not to move or jar the computer while the hard drive is spinning, why Mac's have Sudden Motion Sensors built in.
So, if data is laid over bad sectors, or one has possibly damaged their drive slightly and the data on it, could result in glitchy or unexplained behavior.
Large files like video that take much space on the drive are more likely to encounter bad sectors and thus become incomplete when read later.
What the Disk Utility > Erase with Zero option does, is it tries to write 0's to EVERY BIT on the drive. A sector is made up of bits, 1's and 0's so this method ensures every bit is checked if it can be written too or not.
If a sector fails, then it's mapped off, never to be written too again.
When one places their data on the drive after a Zero, it's on 100% reliable bits and sectors. Thus there is less chance of file corruption when it's read later.
A video production guy told me this little trick as they have huge files so thus needed very reliable data retention and recovery.
I've been using this technique with all new drives for decades now and it's worked for me, unless I forget to do it.
Like anything, others may not require perfection. Regular users with small files all the time likely will lose a file here and there and go about living with it.
Big files are a different story obviously. So optional, not mandatory.
If your confident you can reinstall your operating system, then that's one thing, but if your not, then don't bother.

Solutions to problems when going from KDE3 to KDE4

I have converted to KDE4, sort of, partially.. and encountered hosts of problems. Some I found a solution for in this forum, others remain unsolved so far.
Perhaps there is a wiki subject, or a thread here that collects solutions to such probems, but I have not found it. If there is none - why not?
Currently I am trying to find out how to get into 'administrator mode' in the "system settings", amongst other things.
Changing inittab to look for kdm in /usr/bin instead of /opt/kde/bin was the first solutin I found here;
using gstreamer instead of xine may well be how I can get back sounds;
importing mail from KDE3 worked partially - I lost several mail folders (backed up, I am happy to say)
using su gives me a "root console";
reordering of panels etc is lower on the list
Ok, I can probably solve or work around most problems, but having a "solutions thread" would make life so much easier!

I have been looking for that one too. And in the end I found the KDE 4.2 Feature Plan. So don't expect it before January 29th 2009. The workaround in the meantime is Alt+F2 "kdesu systemsettings".
I back you on a KDE4 wiki page. I have already edited several to reflect the path changes. A central "transition" page would be nice though. I'd offer my help.
