Hardware, Layouts, Advanced and Configure keyboard options are translated in my KF5 compiled from sources. The translations of the oprions in the box are from xkeyboard-config.mo, not provided by KDE. Do you have a catalog xkeyboard-config.mo installed?
    I have installed the package:
    $ Pacman -ql xkeyboard-config

  • How to install KDE 3.5.9 using pacman?

Where do I find KDE 3.5.9 (or KDE 3.5.10) package and his locales to install in Arch using pacman?

n3y wrote:Where do I find KDE 3.5.9 (or KDE 3.5.10) package and his locales to install in Arch using pacman?
    Welcome to the forums.
The easiest way to check to see if a package is the standard repositories is to use pacman's search features:
    ~ > pacman -Ss kde3
    extra/kdelibs3 3.5.10-1
    KDE3 Core Libraries
    extra/qtcurve-kde3 0.59.5-1 (qtcurve)
A configurable set of widget styles for KDE and Gtk
    extra/xfwm4 4.4.3-1 (xfce4)
Xfce window manager, compatible with Gnome, Gnome2, KDE2, and KDE3
Now you can simply pacman -Sy kde3.

  • [SOLVED] kde 4.8.4?

    Hi All,
Just installed Arch and really like it. I was reading in the forums that people are running KDE 4.8.4, and it appears to be in the repos, however, when I do an about in any KDE app, it shows 4.8.3.
    How can I get 4.8.4?
    Thanks!

    # Mirror selected during installation

Also, I have the new keyring thing turned off atm due to lack of time to generate entropy (I will probably do that today). Do you think that might have an impact on package availability?
    Thanks for the replies!

  • Firefox 3.5 damn slow under KDE 4.2

    Hi Folks,
I'm using Firefox 3.5 from extra and it is so damn slow under KDE 4.2.4, compositing enabled (Intel GFX, Driver version xf86-video-intel 2.8.0 from AUR, KMS on, Kernel 2.6.30).
Furthermore I installed "extra/gtk-qt-engine 1.1-1" to get a good integration into the look&feel of KDE.
The application itself has a normal performance, but the menus are very laggy.
In addition to gtk-qt-engine I've tried "community/gtk-kde4", but that seemed to make things even worse
I think that those gtk-qt engines are to blame, but I don't know where to search for issues/problems.
Another thing is: If I say "Use my KDE style/fonts in GTK Applications" in KDE system settings dialog, Firefox looks as follows
    Whats happening here?
Is there any known trick, to get a decent performance in Firefox 3.5 under KDE 4.2?
    Best regards,
    mefiX

I just use QTCURVE as a theme, it has a native KDE3, KDE4 and GTK theme giving a constant look all around plus it is better looking then oxygen imho (especially when set to AQUA).

about performance, did you disable the Ipv6 stuff in about:config? when i used FF i noticed ipv6 dns was on by default and really slowing it down. I since switched to Opera10 which is *way* faster and has a native QT4 build instead of FF's GTK.

  • Strange FaunOS pacman problem

Hello my friends!  I discovered FaunOS recently, and I had it installed on my HD.  I know that is a "sleeping" (or dead?) project, but I like it, really.  I tried to use PacTrac for a system upgrade, but I received some "Forbidden" messages from the console.  I replaced my pacman.conf with a friend's (Arch user).  I tried to upgrade some packages, again.  I had a few results, I can say.  After this, I replaced my mirrorlist with my friend's.  By that time, the pacman console don't want to open!  I  put the button "Install/Upgrade packages", the window opens, I choose the packages, but when I press "Install", nothing happens!:(
What is all about?  Please, help!:/

Well, I tried to updrage my packages and pacman itself, through the terminal:

  • Openoffice 2 and kde4

Kde 4.1 is a good starting point to switch from kde3 but I do have a "major" issue: Openoffice looks ugly. Is there a way to improve the appearance of it?
    Thanks

    Has anyone tried this one?
    http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.ph … tent=74689
If you're are using kdemod you have to correct the CMakeLists.txt because unfortunately the paths get no exported by kde itself.
Perhaps this does work with the kde from the [extra] repo.
I set /usr/lib/kde4 for the so package ; /usr/share/kde4/servicetypes/kcm_gk4,desktop for the start (?!) script.
I do not know where the icon path is, so i commented the INSTALL line out (#).
At the moment, there is a) no change in the systemsettings menue b) no change in gtk rendering. So nothing has changed :-( ...Has someone else gtk-kde4 running?

  • QT testing and kdemod conflict

Can't upgrade because of qt4 want's to upgrade too qt-testing. It won't work, even if I say yes or no.

If I say yes to remove qt-enhanced :
What is the pacman command to skip the qt upgrade?

bender02 wrote:As far as I understand, the the packages in testing are meant to rename things: qt -> qt3; qt4 -> qt. The trouble is of course that all the packages that depend on qt3 have the dependency recorded as "qt" and not "qt3", so I don't understand how could this NOT break dependencies...
Is this why pacman -Syu now gives me:
pacman -Syu wrote:warning: qt: local (4.3.2-2) is newer than extra (3.3.8-5)

Oh, and ktorrent won't start. This is what I get when I start ktorrent from terminal:
    $ ktorrent
ktorrent: error while loading shared libraries: libqt-mt.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Same problem applies for dolphin and k3b.
These apps worked fine just recently. I used dolphin earlier "on this boot". But I'm unable to launch it after this upgrade.
I'm not using kdemod. It seems to me like the qt4 upgrade broke qt3. And thus broke much of kde.
    pacman -S extra/qt community/qt4
    Solved it for me.

It also asks if I want to update pacman and whatever my answers I get an error :
    resolving dependencies...
error: cannot resolve "openssl>=1.0.0", a dependency of "libarchive"
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
So I did pacman -S openssl (it ran fine) but I still get the same error.
I tried several mirrors, I tried to do pacman -r / -S pacman but I still had the openssl error. I tried to download the latest version of pacman but I need libterm to compile it and when I do pacman -S libterm I also get the same error.
I don't know what to do. Should I reinstall Archlinux ?

Ah well, you should have installed libarchive and libfetch with pacman -S before, and make sure the only unmet dependency was openssl, and only then run -Sd when all other dependencies were installed...
Thats how I meant it but didn't write it, sorry, bit of bad advise from my side.
Edit: Really bad considering it left you with a broken pacman... I know you have decided to reinstall already; anyway you should be able to get pacman back by installing the old package from your cache with -U, or if that doesn't work either, untar it to /.
Edit two: How to reinstall pacman when pacman is broken

  • [Solved] Why no WebGL in qtwebkit?

Why isn't WebGL enabled in qtwebkit 2.2 build?
Howto: http://trac.webkit.org/wiki/QtWebKitWebGL (just passing arg «--3d-canvas» to «build-webkit» script does the thing).
    Actual PKGBUILD: http://projects.archlinux.org/svntogit/ … s/qtwebkit
WebGL support is already enabled in kwebkitpart (if qtwebkit is compiled with it), but kwebkitpart needs to be rebuilt with qtwebkit 2.2: https://projects.kde.org/projects/extra … s.cpp#L797

  • Compiz launched in .xinitrc breaks keys, launched normally: ok

    I've found out something weird..
If I start compiz fusion or fusion-icon trough ~/.xinitrc or another script called by ~/.xinitrc then my up arrow doesn't work anymore + ctrl-c becomes ctrl-i (my layout is dvorak, c in dvorak is where i is in qwerty).
However, once I have my desktop I can killall compiz and restart it (or restart fusion-icon) or even do 'reload window manager' in fusion-icon, and then those problems are gone.
Also, I can just not start it in ~/.xinitrc and launch it myself manually when my panels etc are loaded.  Then I don't have the problem either.
Even when compiz/fusion-icon is the very last item in ~/.xinitrc, I have this problem
    Anyone an idea?

elmer_42 wrote:If you are using Compiz in addition to another DE/WM, you may be able to start it through an autostart feature included in the software.
maybe if that "autostart feature" would reset the environment or something.
I'm using dautostart (see http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=57255 ) which is an xdg-compliant autostarter (xdg standards are also used by kde, gnome, xfce etc).
dautostart is launched from .xinitrc (I tried to change the position of the dautostart command in the .xinitrc file, but no change), and I notice the same behavior (eg compiz/fusion-icon launched through dautostart gives the same as when i launch compiz/fusion-icon from .xinitrc directly)

  • Qtconfig and QtCurve

    Hi,
In KDE I've got the following list of available GUI styles:
    qtconfig->Appearance->Select GUI Style:
    Desktop Settings (Default)
    CDE
    Cleanlooks
    GTK+
    Motif
    Oxygen
    Phase
    Plastique
    QtCurve
    Windows
For some reason, in LXDE the list gets shortened:
    qtconfig->Appearance->Select GUI Style:
    Desktop Settings (Default)
    CDE
    Cleanlooks
    GTK+
    Motif
    Plastique
    Windows
I'd expect QtCurve to be available regardless of the DE, shouldn't I?
    $ yaourt -Ss qtcurve
    extra/qtcurve-gtk2 1.8.9-1 (qtcurve) [installed]
A configurable set of widget styles for KDE and Gtk
    extra/qtcurve-kde3 1.8.5-1 (qtcurve)
A configurable set of widget styles for KDE and Gtk
    extra/qtcurve-kde4 1.8.8-1 (qtcurve) [installed]
A configurable set of widget styles for KDE and Gtk

anonymous_user wrote:Set QtCurve as your GTK theme (using lxappearance or similar) then set your Qt theme to GTK+ (qtconfig).
This setup is exactly what I've been forced to use . I'm not quite happy with it, though. Are you? It looks almost, but not quite right (with Qt apps), doesn't it? I vaguely remember the time when my Qt/QtCurve apps looked exactly the same with KDE and LXDE alike, and quite right, too. Unfortunately, the secret's been lost...
