KDE 4.3.2 isn't refreshing files?

I realize that GNOME uses things like gamin, or fam to make sure that the file browser is updated automatically, but I thought that KDE did this itself?
Basically, I have the folder bubble plasmoid on my desktop open to my home folder. Whenever I make a change to the home folder, it normally doesn't refresh for some reason! It was fine in KDE 4.3.1, but now I need to go into dolphin to view new folders I just created, or new files. Sometimes the plasmoid randomly refreshes, normally after I view the files in Dolphin, but it's really annoying that it doesn't show the file changes every time I do one.
I'm using the "vanilla" KDE packages, not KDEmod.
Any ideas?

I'll try resetting, perhaps this is bug related too. Also, the trash can almost NEVER refreshes, unfortunately. It is still showing a file I deleted a few nights ago :S

Display isn't refreshing (or "Can't hide layers")

My display isn’t refreshing when I make changes to layer visibility (Ai CS5 v15.1.0 for Windows).
For example, if I click the eye to hide a text layer, the eye disappears but the layer (e.g., the text) is still displayed.
If I try to hide the parent layer, the parent’s eye disappears but the child (and siblings) are still displayed.
If I try to hide the grandparent layer, all of the layers are correctly hidden.
If I redisplay the grandparent layer, everything looks correct (i.e., the child that I couldn't hide is now hidden and all others layers are displayed).
It's as if Ai doesn't know to refresh the display. When I redisplay the grandparent layer, the Gaussian Blur window popup up briefly (as it should) before redisplaying the document. However, if I hide or unhide many of the layers (including the child and parent in this example), the Gaussian Blur window never appears as if Ai isn't trying to refresh the screen.
Likewise, I’ve had many times when I select text and I can see the selection box, but I can’t see the text itself. If I toggle the layer visibility it’ll often get redrawn.
I’ve seen behavior like this before when an app ran out of memory, but I have 8 gigs of ram (using Windows 7).
Ideas? I've only own Ai for a few days...

Yeah, it's really feeling like a memory issue. My file is 125 megs in size.
When I drag text, I no longer see the text being dragged but instead a gray block.
Before posting the message, I did close everything, reboot, and restart. Same problem.
If I create a new file, the problem isn't there. If I open my big file, the problem returns.

Safari 1.3.2 isn't refreshing updated pages, how do I fix it?

When I'm updating my Dreamweaver files, Safari doesn't update the pages and doesn't when I 'Refresh' or 'Empty Cache', but IE does. Is there a way I can fix this?

Hi, I'm using Dreamweaver MX (that link you gave me

As mentioned in my previous post, once i slipped on off the address & dragged it, as i tried to copy it, the page to the Safari/ IE support page was no longer accessible to me.
This link I c & pasted, did work when I checked it in The HTML Laboratory as i composed the message. It is straight forward no HTML added from me, why it does not work, I know not. The other does. Correct ?

Yes, is that true for all sites or just this site. does Safari update for news ? Apple discussions? I think you should contact them and get some support or try to go to the support on line as i mentioned, & try to get more info, the disappeared support page, that would not reappear for me would be quite useful to you. (Seems they like folks to log in for specifics or maybe they do not support my browser: )
Perhaps enabling the Debug menu for Safari would help.

Why isn't the file size displayed for software updates in the App Store?
My only internet connection is a tether to my iPhone.
My limited bandwidth forces me to manage my data consumption - I am forced to "google" the file size of the software update so I can decide if I have the headroom in my data plan to take advantage of the update.

If you click on the name of the Application in your Updates Available list,
it will take you to the update Imformation for that App.

Stop Dreamweaver auto refreshing files

Dreamweaver auto refresh of files is causing an issue with our cloud storage. If we don't save every few minutes, we loose all our changes because Dreamweaver reloads the previous saved version of the file. How can I stop this?
This doesn't usually happen on a computer, because Dreamweaver is aware that the file you're working on is the same as the one on the drive. However for some reason it doesn't realise this on the cloud, and so it reloads the old version, overwriting all of your changes.

The setting isn't there.
Its under Preferences -> File Types -> Reload Modified Files.
There is no general setting for "site manager", its labeled "site".
At least not in the Edit -> Preferences, under Site you can get to manage sites.
but as I said I don't use that part, and neither does dreamweaver when no sites are configured.
Setting "Reload Modified Files" to never fixed my issue.

How to refresh file listing in the Finder

I started imaging a partition onto a LaCie and the file showed up as being 20MB in the Finder. All throughout the imaging, 20 MB is all the Finder would show. Now that the image has completed, it's still showing 20 MB. Both Terminal and Get Info say the file is 28.61 GB, but the Finder still says it's 20 MB. I've tried closing the Finder and opening it again, navigating to other folders, and back again, but it still says that it's 20 MB. I can't see any "Refresh" menu item, either. What gives?

Try relaunching Finder. Hold down the Option key, then click and hold the Finder icon in the Dock. Select Relaunch. Or you can logout and login. Or restart.

When I import files into the site folder, DWCS3 does not
refresh to show the files. They files are in the folders but do not
show up in the program interface. Is there a way to refresh the
site folder view to include recently added files. I have searched
through the help files and come up empty. Probably not using the
correct search terminology.

How do make Finder to refresh file info so that dimensions are up-to-date?

When I have edited photos and go back to the folder in Finder, the file dimensions are not up-to-date for files that I have cropped.
What I am looking for is the equivalent of F5 in Windows, which causes a screen refresh, so that I can see which files I have forgotten to re-size after cropping.
I think Finder does eventually get the info right but the user has no control over when this happens.

I don't know if I was very clear. I want the users to fill out a form and click a button when they are done.   Then I want the result of clicking the button to be for the form to print to Adobe PDF first followed by emailing to me. Right now the way I set the button up (below), I receive the actual form via email.

    Submit a form"
I want a non editable printed/ refried version AKA "print to Adobe PDF" on the menu items sent to me instead of the actual form. I have searched all over but can't find if this is possible.

Refreshing File System in JFilechooser

Hi,
In my Java application, I have a JFilechooser, which is not instantiated every time it is opened.
My problem is that once i launch my application, and then change some files folders in the underlying file system, then these changes are not reflected in the file chooser, untill i reopen my application.
so is there any method which will refresh the contents of my file chooser, without re-instantiating it ?

I may just try to write a legit plug-in, since I have a little experiance writing C++ plug-ins for InDesign. But I wold like to just confirm that this functionality does not exist in Acrobat with scripting (due to sandboxing etc).

[SOLVED] KDE switches activities when opening a new File

First off, I've been using KDE Plasma Workspaces for a few months now, and for the most part am largely satisfied. Thanks to both the developers of KDE and to the contributors on Arch who made setting everything up a breeze.
One thing that does annoy me however is how it switches Activities when opening a new file, if the default application already has a running instance. For instance, say I have one Activity which I am using as a development environment and have Kate open to view source. Now I switch to a second Activity where I am working on editing style sheets for my web page and again wish to use Kate. If I open Dolphin and click on one of my style sheets (launching Kate as the default editor) I will be switched back to my first Activity and have the style sheet opened in the already running instance of Kate.
To me this behavior is not ideal, I would rather have the DE spawn a new instance of kate for that Activity. I've perused through some of the settings options but haven't seen anything obvious.

Thanks for the response schmidtbag, but these are both suggestions for opening a file in an existing instance of Kate, when I am looking to instead spawn a new instance (at least for the current Activity). Also, these suggestions are specific to Kate, where I would like this behavior to extend across KDE.
Maybe I am just making a big fuss over nothing, but for me it seems more appropriate to spawn a new instance of a program if I click on a file from a file browser, such as Dolphin. If I wanted to open a file in an already running instance of a program I would use Ctrl+O from that program, or drag the file over to the program as schmidtbag suggested.
I'm thinking about reposting over at kde.org, I'll be sure to follow up back over here, no matter what the outcome is.

Why isn't my file in iCloud?

I've saved a numbers file to icloud on my iMac, but when I go to my MacBook Pro, it looks like it's downloading. I can't open it. Why isn't it there?

Just check Add Media Dialog and ensure that "All Files" is selected in second dropdown available there.
Also there is different option to add Audio.. so try that out...

No refresh files on finder at xsan volume

I'm working with a xsan 3.0 on a osx 10.8.2 server, all the clients are fiber channel xsan clients. When we create a folder or copy a file on the xsan volume using one client, is not updated on the rest of clients after a few minutes when viewed in finder. Any idea why?

"Me too", and it's been happening for us in metaSAN, not even XSAN. Now I know it's not metaSAN's fault...

Observed behavior:
When a user creates new files in a SAN folder, another user will not see those new files. Waiting (over 15 minutes), closing and reopening the folder, or reopening a Finder window makes no difference.
Expected behavior:
Finder should automatically pick up on the changes to the folder and display them, as has been the behavior prior to 10.8.
Recurrence: Sporadic.
Workarounds:
Users have to issue a Finder refresh command via AppleScript. Alternatively, if user #2 creates a new subfolder it will also "kick" the folder and update its view with the missing files.
We observed this issue with metaSAN 5.5.0.42 as well as XSAN3. 10.8.4 clients with 10.8.4 server.

InDesign Update isn't opening file

Hey so my boss sent me an InDesign file and my creative cloud says my Indesign is up to date but when I try to open her file it says I need to work in a later version of InDesign. I'm working on a PC and she works off a Mac, does that have anything to do with it?

No but there are three versions (CS6, CC and CC2014) of ID available through the cloud so you need to be certain of which one each of you are using.

Finder not refreshing file or folder names, in NFS mounts.

We are experiencing the an issues with NFS mounts, in both 10.7 and 10.8 machines. After mounting NFS shares, the file/folder names do not update in other MAC finder windows until it is unmounted and remounted on the MACs. This DOES NOT happen in our 10.6.8 and earlier machines.
