KDE 4.3 and superkaramba plasmoids

Hello!
I have just 1 issue with KDE 4.3: I can't seem to be able to install superkaramba-widgets as plasmoids. They don't seem to be installed at all, although I complete the setup-process via right-click on desktop -> install new mini-program from file -> superkaramba-thingy etc... But it will never show up and in my .kde4-folder nothing new will be created.
Can you confirm this? Or does it work for you? It would be great if you could check this out...
Thanks in advance!

OK, a user here http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/post/2106871/ told me the command:
plasmapkg --type=superkaramba -i Datei_Name.skz
It works  But still, I hope this will be fixed in the next update.

    i run KDE 4.2 beta and like it. but there are some stuff i liked more in 4.1 and 4.0 (older versions of some plasmoids and the oxygen theme)
    is there way to install them in parallel as oxygen_1 etc ?

    Nice question - I also think that 4.2 kicks and can't wait for it to be released proper on 27.1.
    In particular I am missing stock quote plasmoids available from aur for 4.1...

  • [SOLVED] kde 4.6 and Udisks mounting problems with Dolphin

    Hello,
    I have a problem with Dolphin in KDE 4.6 where it displays my non-Arch partitions (a / and /home used for Opensuse) as well as a CD-Rom or usb if inserted, but registers an error when I click on the device/partition icon. Specifically, I get the following error displayed at the bottom of Dolphin:
    An error occurred while accessing Hard Drive, the system responded: org.freedesktop.UDisks.Error.Failed: Error creating mount point: No such file or directory.
    Because of this error, I am unable to mount usb pendrives, access CDs, or access the non-Arch partitions. I'm not sure if this is a KDE error or if it related to Arch as I never encountered this error running KDE 4.6 in Opensuse.
    My daemons running in /etc/rc.conf
    DAEMONS=(syslog-ng dbus networkmanager netfs crond alsa kdm)
    My /etc/fstab
    #/dev/cdrom             /media/cd   auto    ro,user,noauto,unhide   0      0
    #/dev/dvd               /media/dvd  auto    ro,user,noauto,unhide   0      0
    #/dev/fd0               /media/fl   auto    user,noauto             0      0
    /dev/sda1 / ext4 defaults,noatime 0 1
    /dev/sda5 swap swap defaults 0 0
    /dev/sda6 /home ext4 defaults,noatime 0 1
    tmpfs   /tmp            tmpfs defaults,nodev,nosuid,mode=1777                   0 0
    tmpfs   /var/lock       tmpfs defaults,nodev,nosuid,noexec,mode=1777,size=10M   0 0
    tmpfs   /var/run        tmpfs defaults,nodev,nosuid,noexec,mode=0755,size=10M   0 0
    Now, I don't have hal running as a daemon as I have read that it is no longer needed in KDE 4.6. Similarly, I don't have my CD-Rom drive mounted as I read in the udev wiki that Udisks automatically mounts devices and partitions. The wiki also indicates that Udisks is supposed to require little configuration.
    I've searched the forum and Google, and I have not been able to find any information documenting a Dolphin and UDisks mounting error in KDE 4.6.
    I installed KDE through the # pacman -S kde    command, but is there some other package that I need to install in order to get Udisks working properly?
    Thanks.

    When I enter   $ groups in a terminal I get the following
    sys adm disk lp wheel games video audio optical storage power users
    So I'm definitely part of the storage group.
    I think I found a solution. I created a /data mountpoint in fstab and a /data folder in my root directory. Now, I'm able to mount and access the contents of the /home partition from Opensuse. The reason I wanted to do this was to access music and photos and transfer them onto my Arch /home partition.
    I uncommented the cdrom, dvd, and fd0 devices in fstab and I created /media/cd, /media/dvd, and /media/fl. After inputting a # mount -a, my CDROM drive reads properly as does my USB.
    So once again, thank, you for pointing me in the right direction.
    One final thought. I was under the impression from reading the UDisks information that it automatically detected and mounted other partitions and devices without them being explicitly mounted in fstab. Was the assumption wrong? In other words, for UDisks and Dolphin to work together properly in KDE 4.6, do all of the devices that appear have to first be mounted in fstab?

  • [SOLVED] Major weird issues with KDE/Qt apps and unicode

    Hi, I've tried to search for my problem, but nothing has showed up, so if this has already been answered, please forgive me.
    Anyway, I use KDE as my primary desktop environment with SKIM as my unicode input method. After installing SKIM and Japanese fonts back when I first set Arch up, I have never had any issues with inputting unicode or displaying it in any program, whether that be irssi running through Konsole, or the song titles in Amarok. That all changed this afternoon, somehow...
    The only major changes I can remember making to my system today are the following:
    1.) I installed Awesome Window Manager to check it out
    2.) I installed a pkgbuild of urxvt
    3.) I made an .Xdefaults file and added these lines to customize my urxvt
    After messing around with these things, I decided that Awesome wasn't a suitable WM for me, went back into KDE, and removed the package. I noticed a few strange issues after that though:
    1. Foreign characters refuse to display properly in any terminal emulator.
    2. Foreign characters come up as jumble in Konqueror now as well, when they never did before:
    3. SKIM refuses to let me input Japanese characters with Anthy in any KDE app. The option for Japanese just isn't there, even though I have it installed:
    4. Foreign characters display perfectly as tags for songs in Amarok, but if the music file itself has foreign characters in it, the title is garbled and the track is unplayable:
    5. SKIM works absolutely fine in non-KDE apps like Firefox:
    As seen in the last example, my Japanese fonts are all installed, and SKIM is working as it should in any non-KDE app, suggesting that there are no problems on that end. The issue seems to be with something in KDE, but I have no idea where to begin fixing it. Furthermore, I have no idea what could have caused this issue in the first place. I don't see how installing a window manager or terminal emulator package could have screwed up my fonts, and the .Xdefaults file I wrote just contained config information for urxvt. Nothing else. I even ended up deleting that, but it did not fix my problem.
    If you could be of any help, I'd really appreciate it. I have a lot of files with foreign characters in them, and being able to read them is essential.

    I was just looking into locales, actually.

  • [SOLVED] How to start JACK with KDE 4? (and which JACK should I use?)

    Hi again
    I'm using KDE 4, and I've just installed JACK again, and since I can't find any decent documentation on this, I'm having a bit of a problem.
    Currently I have jack from [extra] installed, rather than jack2. When I try starting jack as the ArchWiki suggests, i.e. by typing "jackd -d alsa", I get the following error:
    $ jackd -d alsa
    jackd 0.120.1
    Copyright 2001-2009 Paul Davis, Stephane Letz, Jack O'Quinn, Torben Hohn and others.
    jackd comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY

    the playback device "hw:0" is already in use. Please stop the application using it and run JACK again
    cannot load driver module alsa
    I've also tried jack2 from [community], and after starting it with "jack_control start", I get this...
    $ jack_control start
    --- start
    DBus exception: org.jackaudio.Error.Generic: Failed to start server
    So how do I start it? I'm guessing jack doesn't want to start because some other KDE application grabbed alsa before jackd (but I've been wrong before), and I don't have the slightest idea what jack2 is about with that "generic" error. If anyone would help me shed some light on this, I'd appreciate it a lot.
    Thanks in advance!

    @schivmeister thanks that one worked
    Yes, it was knotify4. So now this part works. I've switched to jack2 and it works flawlessly when starting it with jackd
    So this part is solved... now, would you be so kind (if you know) as to point me to some tutorials or howtos (or proper documentation, cos I can't find much of that either) on how to connect various ALSA channels with JACK?
    Basically, I want to route my PCM channel and the Mic channel into Capture 1 (or one to Capture 1 and other to Capture 2), since my Intel HDA audio card doesn't have the "Mix" or "What-U-Hear" or whatever as an available capture source. Any leads on that? (or do I have to open another thread for it?)
    TIA

  • KDE: Setting time and date automatically

    I've never been able to set the time and date automatically in KDE time settings. When I check the "Set time and date automatically" and authenticate myself, I always get the error message "Unable to contact time server: .". I'm wondering whether it's an upstream bug or I'm missing some required package? Does it work for you?

    matt101 wrote:I don't get it i have installed ntpd using pacman -S ntp . Could somone please explain to me in simple terms how to make the KDE clock show London time?
    Have you set ntp correctly?
    Also go to http://www.pool.ntp.org/en/use.html you'll have all the answers there.
    in short try this:
    ntpq -p
    If nothing happens you did something wrong, if it does, then it already works just remove ntpd or openntpd from daemon array.

  • KDe 4.9 and pacman problems

    because my messages to the ML seems to disappearI will ask here.
    Hello,
    Today I upgraded my KDe 4.8.4 to KDE 4.9.
    I did all the steps according to the manual.
    Everything went without any problems.
    But when I start up KDE with startx I see the splashscreen and after that the screen went white.
    KDE 4.8 works fine.
    I have a Intel graphical card.
    Second problem:
    When I do pacman -Syu I see a lot of messages that the installed versions of kde are newer then the versions in [extra]
    Anyone who can help me solve this two problems?
    Roelof

    hi, about your second problem, seems like if you has disable [kde-unstable] repo after your install, is the case? (you can make pacman -Syy to force update of all repo, just in case   )
    about your first problem, white screen in startup KDE, is the same with kdm? I have nvidia card with nouveau drivers and all works fine, so i can't test like you :s

    I use Arch Linux with KDE and everyhting are good and I use KDE with a lot of packages for 6 month and , I want move to Gnome and use it . I install Gnome and Gnome Extra with pacman . what I must do right now ? do I need need remove KDE completely and all delete all packages are depend on KDE or no ?
    can I have KDE packages and Gnome3 packages in one system . Or I have remove some packages , because of conflict ?

    desm0tes is absolutely correct.  This system has KDE, Xfce4, Awesome, e17, lxde.
    How do you start your kde session?  If you are using kdm, it will find gnome the next time you start it.  You can select the session you want from the kdm login screen.  If you choose to change to gdm, it will find kde as well.  If you use startx from the console and need some hints, let us know.

  • KDE, Systemd, NM and double suspsend

    So, first, don't get me wrong, it's not the same problem that happened when KDE doesn't support systemd inhibit.
    Since NM 0.9.6.4, nm begin to add a new inhibit, seems to be used to track suspend status. But this seems cause double suspend for me again.
    When I close the lid and suspend with KDE, and when I want to resume, I have to resume it for second time since it just suspends immediately again.
    This is what I get.
    $ systemd-inhibit --list
    WHAT                  WHO                  WHY                  MODE     UID    PID
    handle-power-key:handle-suspend-key:handle-hibernate-key:handle-lid-switch PowerDevil           KDE handles p...ents block   1000   1068
    sleep                 root                 inhibited            delay      0    359
    Second one comes from NM.
    And if I downgrade NM to 0.9.6.0, problem will be solved, so I'm partly sure it's is related to this NM "new feature".
    I even drop a report on systemd but so far no reply: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58220
    Does anyone also have this problem know how to resolve it? Thanks! Not a big deal, just annoying...

  • KDE 4.1 and installation questions.

    Hi,
    I want to move up to Arch from Mint and PCLOS but the installation routine has me a little apprehensive. I always read reviews of Arch Linux and sometimes the reviewers give the impression that the installation is not for newbies. I am not a newbie anymore but I don't have a lot of time to tinker or learn - just the facts.
    So, Is the installation process challenging for the averagely intelligent person  with some Linux experience with the easier distros like Mint and PCLOS ? Also, how is KDE 4.1 working out on Arch ? I would definitely like to try it if it is up to snuff now. I read that 4.0 release was pretty bad.
    Thanks,
    B.

    The documentation for installing Arch is pretty good.  I found that I did have to hunt around a bit at times to get everything set up, but it is all there if you look.  You can be up and running quite quickly if you know what you're doing.  If you don't, you might be in for a long afternoon.
    The main difference between an Arch installation and say, PCLOS, is that with PCLOS, the install is always going to end up with a KDE desktop, KDM, sound, etc, so they can automate most of the process for you.  Arch is completely ala carte, so to get a KDE workstation, you have to do the base install, add a user and configure them, install X, add support for your graphics card, configure support for sound, install HAL, install KDE, install KDE applications, set up and configure networking, and then install KDM (and I'm sure I'm leaving some stuff out).
    Again, there is documentation for doing all of the above, BUT if you haven't done it before and you do things out of order, or can't figure out one of the steps, you can get stuck for a very long time.
    What was your reason for wanting to ditch PCLOS in the first place?  Just something different or did you have something in mind?

  • Kde authorization (polkit and dbus driving me insane)

    hi,
    apologies if this is complete newbie territory, but it's been a long time since i last used linux as a desktop OS so polkit and dbus are all new to me.
    the problem, basically, is that KDE won't let me do anything i would consider privileged. network manager applet won't let me change wifi connections, package manager doesn't work and usb disks won't mount.
    let's start with usb disks. i added a polkit rule as per the wiki:
    [root@mjollnir rules.d]# cat 10-enable-mount.rules
    polkit.addRule(function(action, subject) {
    if (action.id == "org.freedesktop.udisks2.filesystem-mount-system" && subject.isInGroup("storage")) {
    return polkit.Result.YES;
    and i am in the storage group:
    $ groups
    wheel network audio storage power
    but i get the following error when i try to open a newly inserted usb disk in dolphin:
    Error checking authorization: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1.Error.Failed: Action org.freedesktop.udisks2.filesystem-mount is not registered (polkit-error-quark, 0)
    and now for network manager -
    running nm-applet from a terminal and trying to change wifi connection gives me this:

    i do have dbus processes running under my userid, so i think i have a session but i'm not really sure what i'm looking for, and learning the complete ins and outs of dbus is more than a little daunting for what should be a relatively simple task!
    can anyone point me in the right direction to start figuring this out? i'm currently seriously considering a complete reinstall but i'm not sure i have the time for that, especially since i don't know if it would necessarily solve the problem
    fwiw, i booted a mint livecd and all this stuff worked fine so it's not my hardware

    Sorry for being vague - i understand it's not easy dealing with newbies i'll try to be clearer!
    I was running kdm as root, then logging in as a regular user. I've now enabled the kdm systemctl service as per mariusmeyer's instructions, but it didn't change what happens when i insert a USB disk - same error as before.

  • KDE 4.10 and udisks2

    Hello guys!
    Just installed KDE 4.10 from testing and run into following issue: since kde 4.10 requires udisks2, all usb-devices are now being mounted to /run/media/user/ rather than into /media.  Is intended behavior or will be things corrected before kde gets into [community]?

    This is intended behavior. That's what udisks2 does.

    Stop bumping. Use the edit button.
    Not sure why it jokes on this, as the files should not be part of kdeartwork-wallpapers:
    http://www.archlinux.org/packages/extra … allpapers/
    Maybe your mirror has not synched completely yet? You could check manually if it already has the new kdebase-workspace.
    Apart from all that, you could just hold back kdeartwork-wallpapers for now and update the rest.
