KDE 4.4.0 crashes when logging in on Acer Aspire One

Hello,
I just made an ArchLinux fresh installation on my Acer Aspire One, A1-ZG5. This is my problem: when I log in to KDE, the splash screen comes and then screen freezes. There is one gray window in the top of the screen that just flashes, no windows nor plasma can be seen. I have installed other KDE distros in the same netbook and worked well. I had had the same problem once, when I installed KDE 4.3.1, and never could fix it... KDE seems to be working like in the background; config files are still being created with the frozen screen...any ideas?...Thanks for your help!...:rolleyes:

is your disk full?
if not, try to switch off the services, remone network-manager plasmoids, and try again

Did you try a other browser like Fire Fox to checked out if it Safari ore just the connection to that website you are trying to log inn.
I myself have to internet sites where Safari crashed under OSX Panther but not under OSX Tiger.

As soon I hit "play" on a flash movie, flash player crashes
I have tried to disable hardware acceleration to eliminate that possibility, but the check box does not respond to input
I read that the flash player system controls do not respond when there are scrollbars around the screen (as there are on a small netbook screen) so I zoomed out to get rid of the scrollbars, but the systems setting menu is still unresponsive when I try to disable hardware acceleration

eg. when I right slick on a player, the setting menu opens up, but the "Enable hardware" check box does not respond to a mouse click and remains on I also tried tabbing around the settings menu and using the return key to select/ de-select but that doesn't work either

Firefox Slow Even When Offline on Acer Aspire One ao751h-1145

I have a 2gb RAM, 1.33 Ghz Intel Atom CPU Z520, and a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate on my Acer Aspire One ao751h-1145. I have no viruses and no programs running in the background. I've installed and uninstalled various versions of Firefox (4, 11, 12) and even upon a fresh install before I edit preferences, bookmarks, or add-ons, the PROGRAM ITSELF is super slow. It isn't using any more RAM or processer speed that it should, however. What it does: Menus are slow to open, scrolling is jumpy, and switching from tab to tab takes like 2 seconds. Internet Explorer 8 works just fine, as do all other programs on the computer. Also, it works fine in Safe Mode. I can't find anything regarding this issue online. Help!

Thanks for reply. But, drivers are up to date. However, I found on this page (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-upgrade-my-graphics-drivers) that I might want to disable hardware acceleration. I did that through the options menu and Firefox is "usable," but still not what I'm used to on other computers and still not as fast as IE on the same computer. Since turning of the hardware acceleration helped, what else can I do along the same lines to speed it up more? I know a 1.33GHz processor is plenty fast enough to run only firefox by itself. The computer I'm on now (my non-netbook) runs at 700MHz when on batteries and has no performance issues. I hope I can get it because I don't want to use another browser! :(

Local apps crash when logged in as Xserve user - HELP!

I run a new elementary school mac lab: 24 eMacs (OS 10.4.2) as managed users/groups with remote home directories on an Xserve. We run the programs locally and save to the server. Many of our apps are crashing leaving the OS fine. These are new OSX educational titles from various quality vendors including The Learning Company (Kid Pix Deluxe 4, Storybook Weaver Deluxe) and Tom Snyder Productions (Neighborhood Map Machine). And these are the only apps run so far! Our eMacs have 512 MB Ram. I use an iMac G5 with 1GB Ram as the instructor. These apps quit ALOT; however, when logged in as an administrator to the local machine, the apps do NOT quit. I've tried the various solutions posted in the Tiger discussions regarding font removal and system cache cleaning...to no avail. I'm beginning to think it may be server-related. HELP!!!

"System Administrator" is the system access for the xserve. "Administrator" is your system access for the user/client computers, when logged in as that, it allows you access to the system "no restriction". I use one "name" for system access for all servers and clients on campus. I have alot of older applications that we run that have their own issues but not permissions, they run under OS 9. Newer apps like Mavis Beacon16 and Carmen SanDiego I had to tweak, I run them server based. I assume you have Apple Remote Desktop running. Set one of your lab computers up as a back up administrator/tester with ARD and all the server apps installed. I had all my new iMac G5 go bad (Bad Capacitors) and they were my Admin computers. Tweak one app at a time, get it running the way you want it to. Have a student abuse/test the app. Once it works correctly shoot the app to the other clients via ARD. This way your only fixing on machine. Setting Read/Write is a quick fix to get them up and running, But you are opening up the applications to the students who a very creative and never read dialog boxes. If you leave them open you will have to reinstall them occasionally to get them working again. I have had students change the name of a file and the app quits working. That is the major problem of Read/Write.

FCP 7 crashes when Log & Transfer MXF files

I just got a new MacBook Pro and Final Cut Studio that includes FCP 7.
I just received footage from my DP shot on a Panasonic HVX200 on P2 Cards and saved as MXF files. I saved all files onto my MacBook with a backup on an external USB drive (another set was saved on a Firewire 800 drive).
All footage was shot 720p/24fps.
I can view the files on the Log & Transfer preview window - but when I attempt to ingest via Log & Transfer, the transfer begins but suddenly stops (status is idle) and the red ! stop sign appears - obviously the file was not ingested. When I attempt to re-start the transfer or try with another file, FCP crashes.
My understanding is FCP 7 is able to accept native P2 format files (MXF) without transcoding - so it is very disappointing this is not working.
Easy Setup settings are:
Format: Panasonic DVCPRO HD
Use: DVCPRO HD 720p/24
Portion of error log:
Exception Type: EXCBADACCESS (SIGSEGV)
Exception Codes: KERNINVALIDADDRESS at 0x00000000ffffffff
Crashed Thread: 0

It doesn't transcode...it wraps the MXF files into a QT wrapper, joining audio and video. DVCPRO HD P2 mainly. AVCintra native support is here too, but you need to render to ProRes.
BUT...that isn't the case here...try this:
in the P2 Import window...in the P2 Browser, there is a little sprocket drop down menu. Click on that and choose PREFERENCES. Uncheck REMOVE PULLDOWN and then try importing again.

DSR11 Not Recognised. FCP Crashes When Log & Capture Selected.

I've recently had a quite traumatic period installing QT7 Pro to work with iDVD disk burning. During that period, FCP3 worked faultlessly. Succeeded at last with disk burning then shut down for the night. Next day went into FCP and found that my DSR11 was not being seen by it. Chose 'Continue' and tried to set things up through 'Easy Setup' in the usual way. Couldn't be done. Selected Log and Capture as a 'try' and FCP crashed, leaving me with the Desktop screen. Despite numerous attempts to create a connection with the DSR11, I always am getting the box telling me it cannot be found and giving the choice to try again or select 'Continue.'
I'm wondering if the QT settings were in some way corrupted as I shut down the computer.... I'd like some help in getting back the settings.
I downloaded the QT7 upgrade which afforded the correct running of FCP and iDVD disk burning but now I can't find any record of the prog and its key in order to re-install it. I looked in HD/Library/Receipts and could only find references to Flip4Mac and QT Packages - no QT references with numbers following. Since inplutting this post I've found that the last mentioned QT package is 7.2 so I tried reinstalling it but after going through the procedure it ends with a message that there were errors in the installation and that I should try reinstalling it again.... Well, after four attempts with the same result, I'm here, and on tenterhooks!
As an aftermention..... I also have used the DSR11 with my MacPro to successfully operate FCP in its normal way.

On the Apple website it specifically states that QT7.2 with OSX.4.10 (actually any system of 10.3.9 and above) is the best way forward for the most efficient result from my computer. In view of that, I've recently used their Feedback page to pass the information to them. Yes, I know it states that one can only use it for feedback and they will not entertain other than that but we should have the abililty to put back to them the sort of quandary I'm in over their OS and allegedly compliant prog - ie QT7.2.
I've now taken the bull by the horns, because there's no other way I'm going to get satisfaction with Apple's software which should be capable as stated, and I'm about to re-install QT7 then try once again. That's despite not finding those additional Receipt files for scrapping prior to the install.
I'll report back the result when finished and tested. If it again fails, Apple will get an official complaint regarding their software that fails after being bought when their advertising says it improves rather than fails.

Firefox crashes when logging on in certain pages or when clicking certain dropdown boxes, signature libxul.so@0x90acf5

My firefox crashes on some pages. This happens when I make a selection in a drop-down box or when I log on to some pages. This happen even if I have unloaded all of my extensions.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:
You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
*Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
*Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
*Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

You can open the Web Console (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer).
Check on the Network tab if any content is blocked and has a file size 0 (zero).

Firefox crashes when logging onto googlemail on my PC, except when I am safe mode. Have tried unchecking hardware acceleration, but problen persists.

This problem began when I updated AVG to the 2012 trial version. I thenchanged over to the 2012 free edition, but the problem persists, so I think it has something to do with AVG. A scan revealed two trogan infections on the system, which Super Anti Spyware removed sucessfully. I have had this problem for about three days. In safe mode Firefox logs ontpo Gmail sucseefully.

I'm running on Ubuntu 9.10 with Firefox 3.6.10.
thanks to the first post, i didn't downgrade Firefox to 3.5 but i did download 3.5.
Here is what i did:
I downloaded 3.5.13 : http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
The link to 3.5.13 is on the right under Other Versions.
Once you click on FF 3.5.13, it'll take you to all different languages of 3.5.13.
I got the English version. The name of the file is : firefox-3.5.13.tar.bz2
Once downloaded, i opened the location of the file( Downloads folder) and opened the package by double clicking on it. YOur 9.10 should be able to recognize bz2 format and you will see a folder called Firefox in the archive.
Simply, extract the folder and place it on your desktop.
IF you want to run FF3.5.13, close all firefox browsers that are already opened.
Once this is done, Open the folder "Firefox" that you just extracted and double click on the file firefox. It should ask you to run, display, run in terminal... simply press run.
This is how i got it to work. simple steps. to confirm it is working, check the version of firefox and try paltalk express

Safari crashes when logging into websites behind authenticated proxy

Hi,
After the most recent automatic updates, Safari has now taken to crashing whenever I try to login to sites like gmail or hotmail. This only occurs at my home where I access the internet through an authenticated proxy (Unix-based using Squid) but at college I have no problems logging in. Since the crash reporter also can't get past the authenticated proxy I can't submit the report that way. So,
(a) does anyone else have this problem? (There is at least one other person using a new macbook on the same network as me, and he's having this problem)
(b) if no one has a solution, can I submit the crash report some other way so that Apple can fix this?

PS. I tried Authoxy the other morning but couldn't get it to work. It wasn't authenticating and so couldn't access the internet. But I have a simple pac file that works fine for Safari. Of course, iTunes and similar programs are a dead loss. So a more general improvement in my proxy situation would also be appreciated.

Crashed when selecting 'New Project' while existing one still on screen

I started the program, selected 'Video Editor', then 'Existing Project', which presented 2 existing projects and 'Open'. I tried 2 different methods - first selected one of the existing projects, then after apparently crashing the software, chose 'Open' and selected a project. In either case, the first project loads... but then if I select 'File/New Project', the 'Add media' display opens skewed to/cut off on the left, and the software hangs with a Win8 'program not responding'. MUST I save the existing project before selecting New, or is it just profoundly molasses-in-ice slow, or has it really crashed? Getting hugely frustrated! (I even uninstalled/reinstalled thinking it had twisted itself in knots after successive perpetual downloading of 'menu title' episodes).

If you have a project open and want to start a new one, you go to File Menu/New/Project.
At that point, you are forced to make a saving decision Yes or No for the project that you are in?
If you say Yes, note the name of the project. The old project is saved for use at another time. And, you can now open a new project.
If you say No, there are two possiblities
a. the complete project is gone if it has never been saved/closed before.
or
b. if your project was one that was saved/closed before, you opened it to edit some more, and are now closing it with a "No" for the save, you will lose all the edits that you made while the project was open in this session, but the project will still be saved with the work that you completed before this session that you are saying No save to.
Please think about the above.
Please do not hesitate to let me know if you need clarification on anything that I have written. I will rewrite if necessary if I did not make my explanation clear enough.

SAP Add on crash when use logon to more than one company

I have a client logon to 2 companies simultaneously and SAP CR give an error "SAP CR encountered problem and needs to close".
From the reply I receive in SAP Add On post, this is a known issue for Add on.
I believe it is a common expectation that users can logon to more than one companies and SAP Business One and all its add on can function properly.
It is a reasonable expectation and hope something can be done about this.

Can you try to launch your QuickTime Player, please? Do you get a "QuickTime has encountered a problem" message? If so, does the information link in the box say that the QuickTime error is a BEX?
If so, I'm afraid that malware is the worry with that ntdll.dll/BEX combination, player. (Often people who get it also can't get their Adobe Reader to launch either, although that symptom isn't universal.)
I'm not sure which particular beast (or beasts) is the culprit at this stage, but the free version of Malwarebytes has been doing a good job of fixing it for a lot of people.
Download and install Malwarebytes from the following page. Update the Malwarebytes definitions prior to running a scan with Malwarebytes:

If the Malwarebytes scans pick up infections could you let us know what they are called, please?
If you remove the infections, can you get your iTunes and QuickTime launching again?
