KDE 4.4 automount - does it honor HAL rules?

Can anyone point me to an article that explains how KDE4 handles automounting?  It's mounting my Windows NTFS partition rw automatically regardless of what I put in my HAL rules.
I know I can just put the partition in /etc/fstab as a workaround, but I want to understand how KDE auomounting works.
(BTW, I don't want NTFS rw b/c 99% of the time I have Windows hibernated to disk - writing to that partition could cause issues.)

Hi,
you can configure automounting in KDE4.4 by
SystemSettings --> Advanced Tab --> Removable Devices

  • KDE open file dialog does not honor the global double click setting

    I have checked both in system settings and in the file
    $HOME/.kde/share/config/kdeglobals
    to make sure the singleclick is set to false. Still in the open/save dialog the files are selected and opened in a single click.
    This bug is not seen in chakra linux (which now has kde 4.8.2).
    Anyone can confirm this?

  • Pages '08 Export does not honor the "Hide extension" checkbox

    I have noticed that Pages '08, even with the latest update (3.0.3), does not honor the state of the "Hide extension" checkbox in the Export save dialog (or "sheet" that slides out from the title bar). Specifically, I have seen this happen when exporting to Word. When un-checking the "Hide extension" checkbox, the filename is displayed in the dialog with the .doc extension, but the file appears in the save folder (anywhere in the file system) without the .doc extension until I do a Get Info on the file and un-check Hide Extension in the Name & Extension section.
    This is really annoying because I hate automatic hiding of file extensions in general, and I find it unacceptable with any kind of MS Office docs because my Windows-using colleagues can't seem to cope without a file extension they recognize.
    Also note that this does not seem to affect the Save or Save As dialogs in Pages '08, only the Export save dialog. I can create a regular Pages document, do a Save As, uncheck Hide Extension, and I'll see the document show up in the file system with the .pages extension.
    Is this a known bug in Pages '08? I can't find any mention of it in the forums. I also want to know if this is fixed in Pages '09. I've been looking for a way to report this as a bug, but am not having much luck.

    Yes. just add the extension manually in the Finder.

  • Global ATP does not honor supply from some orgs

    Global ATP does not honor supply from some orgs
    ATP based on planning data.
    Planning completes OK and shows enough supply (in planning workbench).
    ATP plan based on Bill of Distribution defined like this:
    Source for ORG1 is ORG2 ->
    Source for ORG2 is ORG3 ->
    Source for ORG3 is Supplier
    When inquiring ATP in ORG1 it considers supply only from ORG2,
    nor ORG3/Supplier.
    Despite the plan contains supply from all orgs.
    Any solution ?

    I think you need to set up a direct relationship between ORG1, ORG3 and the supplier. ORG3 and supplier would be lower ranked options.
    For Example-
    ORG1 from ORG2 rank 1 100%
    ORG1 from ORG3 rank 2 100%
    ORG1 from Supplier rank 3 100%
    The results will also depend on whether the plan is constrained and/or optimized.

  • Oh god I overwrote /etc/udev/rules.d/90-hal.rules

  • Does Time Machine have rules?

    I just wanted to ask, does Time Machine have rules?
    A rule for example could be "delete all files older than 6 months from backup except those in the listed/protected folders". Thanks for your help.
    The thing is I'm concerned that old files remaining on the external drive will result in the drive filling up fast, and that I'll do better to just use a regular back up app instead. That means replacing the existing backup with the newer updated copy of my files. That has always worked for me. Can Time Machine do that?

    Time Machine has these rules:
    1.Backup all altered files once every hour for the most recent 24 hours.
    2.Keep daily backups for the most recent month.
    3.Keep weekly backups until the drive is full.
    After the whole drive has been completely backed up for the first time, one can select folders or files that are to be ignored whether they change or not with the "options..."(?) button in Time Machine preferences(i.e files/folders that are to be ignored considering future backups).
    As far as I know that´s all there is to it.
    Hope that helps.

  • [SOLVED] Gimp does not honor KDE Task Manager Settings

    I've configured the Task Manager to only display tasks from the current desktop. This works for every application except the Gimp, whose toolbox windows are shown in the task manager on every desktop. Is there some setting I could adjust to fix this?
    I included a screenshot below that shows the following in order:

    2. the task manager on desktop 2, where only gimp is open
    3. the task manager on desktop 1, where only firefox is open

    I received two solutions to this from a moderator on the kde forums:
    - specify that that particular window skips the taskbar by right clicking title bar of the toolbox window -> more actions -> special window settings -> arrangement and access -> ...
    - use Gimp 2.8 single window mode

  • Udev/hal rules won't automount my ipod

    After following directions in the wiki articles on hal and udev to get my ipod to automount and generate the /dev/ipod device, I'm at a loss because nothing seems to work as explained. (I'm running Arch64 with LXDE)
    I've added the following rule to /etc/hal/fdi/policy/ipod.fdi:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <device>
    <match key="@block.storage_device:storage.model" string="iPod">
    <merge key="volume.policy.desired_mount_point" type="string">ipod</merge>
    <merge key="volume.policy.mount_option.iocharset=iso8859-15" type="bool">true</merge>
    <merge key="volume.policy.mount_option.sync" type="bool">true</merge>
    </match>
    </device>
    I've added the following rule to /etc/udev/rules.d/60-ipod.rules
    BUS=="usb", ATTRS{manufacturer}=="Apple*", ATTRS{model}=="iPod*", KERNEL=="sd?2", SYMLINK+="ipod", NAME="%k", GROUP="storage"
    When I plug in the ipod, Pcmanfm will show 'Apple Ipod Music Player' in the left column with the other drives. When I click on it, it will properly mount the ipod to /media/{name of ipod}. I would like it to mount every ipod at /media/ipod, and create a link /dev/ipod. I haven't put anything in the fstab yet, but in any case, the /dev/ipod link is not created. I know the udev rules work, because it will create the correct link for /dev/pilot when I plug in my Palm.
    Help! I'm trying hard to wrap my brain around this, and I don't understand why it's not creating the /dev/ipod link. I've restarted the computer and restarted hal and reloaded udev rules multiple times with no changes.
    Thanks!
    Scott

    Ahhh....thank you!  If I take out the 'last_rule' option it does indeed show up on pcmanfm. However, I think it's happening somewhere outside the parsing of the udev rules (perhaps HAL???) because even if I moved the local rules to the very last (99-local.rules) but kept in the 'last_rule' option, it would still not show up.
    Now, second problem is trying to distinguish between flash drive and ipod. I thought you could use a != on an attribute. The rules below still result in /dev/sdb2 on the ipod getting mounted twice .... once to /media/ipod and once to /media/usbhd-sdb2.

  • Office 2013 click-to-run does not honor deselecting 'Make Outlook the default program' checkbox

    We use an email client other than Microsoft Outlook (let's say Thunderbird)
    Thunderbird is set as the default mail client for the machine (HKLM\Software\Clients\Mail\(default) set appropriately)
    Occasionally, we launch Outlook (but absolutely do not want it as the default mail client for the machine).  About 30 seconds after launching Outlook, we see that the Windows default mail client changes to Microsoft Outlook.The 'Make Outlook the default
    program for E-mail, Contacts, and Calendar' checkbox in File->Options is disabled.
    Further investigation with ProcMon indicates that a SYSTEM service called integrator.exe starts up about 30 seconds after we launch Outlook.  This service changes the HKLM\Software\Clients\Mail\(default) registry key to be Microsoft Outlook.
    We have tested with multiple non-Outlook email clients, and the behavior is always the same.
    This only happens on click-to-run installs of Office 2013.  Regular installs of Office 2013 do not have the problem.  Older versions of Outlook do not have the problem.
    What can we do to get Outlook to honor the 'Make Outlook the default program' setting?

    Kapaal -
    Thanks for your reply.  Your blog post would certainly work if this was just a user-mode app that was making the change, but that's not the case with Office 2013.
    The integrator.exe process that is making the change is part of Microsoft's Click-to-Run system.  It runs as a service with local system access, and thus would have full access to the key.  I might be able to lock it down by creating a second system
    admin account and playing games with it - but that will make it very difficult to actually change the value when I want it do be changed, and I really shouldn't have to be doing workarounds to prevent Office itself from doing this.

  • Xorg 1.8 - How does udev replace HAL?

    Okay guys, I've understood that you can run custom commands to e.g. automount USB sticks or symlink devices with udev. That's pretty easy, and actually a lot less work than with the XML-style .fdi files of HAL. Good riddance I guess.
    But HAL played an important role in enabling zero-configuration input devices so far. This seems no longer be working at all. With simple commands, HAL was able to dynamically add devices to X. I'm desperately trying to figure out a way to do the same with udev though, and I really can't find anything on it...
    I just want to enable my Wacom tablet *without* the use of an Xorg.conf (which AFAIK is deprecated), like it was possible with HAL. I know how to match my device, but not what I need to do with udev to add those input devices to the X session. Could anyone please fill me in?

    lustikus wrote:usb automounting can be done with udev rules:  http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ude … SB_devices
    I know, that's not the point. My problem is specifically with *input* devices.
    @archman-cro: You understood it wrong. The files that are already in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ will get overwirrten with every update. These are files that typicall get managed by different packages. Basically, if you add a synaptics touchpad driver, that package will but its 10-synaptics.conf in there. If you use a wacom tablet (xf-86-input-wacom package), a 50-wacom.conf will get put there. These files should NOT be modified because if the package gets updated or reinstalled, the old one will be removed.
    What you could do is maybe create a file that no package will ever overwrite in there, like /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-local-rules.conf. Then put any local rules in there and hope no package ever wants to use 10-local-rules.conf. This also has the advantage that these rules are parsed before most of the other rules, as all etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/*.conf files are parsed in alphabetical order.
    I've got a question on the InputClass section. You can use MatchProduct and Matchvendor there. But how do you find out for a given device what the value of the Product and Vendor strings are? I know you can do this for USB devices with the lsusb command, but how about serial devices?

    Why does Illustrator CS6 not honor the Mac system setting for Full Keyboard Access? Under System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts, I have Full Keyboard Access set to allow the Tab key to cycle between "Text boxes and lists only". But Illustrator allows the Tab key to focus on all controls, including buttons. Is there a setting somewhere in Illustrator to change this behavior?

    You can try to edit the keyboard file, but you need to find out the code for the Danish keys.
