KDE after update
Hi, I am using lynx now because KDE after update few hours ago doesn't work correct.
KDE start but there are KDE crsh daemon million times.
There are no errors in logs.

Thank a lot for the new kdebase . New hot morning, new update and everything is as before . Thanks.

Hello all,
I updated my arch 2 days ago and I cannot go pass KDM since. I enter the user and pass it shows me ksplash screen and it gets stuck at the first "harddrive" icon. Also I noticed that since the update during boot time the console gives me a warning that "Root device is not mounted in Read-Write mode". Does it have any connection? And what does the first "harddrive" icon in Ksplash represent? Also I tried to log in using KDE-Failsafe, but with the same result. I log in TWM though. So I'm guessing it's a KDE issue?
Thank you all in advance!
Best Regards,
NightSinnerHello
You didn't give enough informations:
What was updated 2 days ago?
How is kdm launched?
How you choose between normal kde, kde failsafe mode or twm?
When there is a problem, it should be the first thing to do to look into the log files: kdm.log, Xorg.0.log or ~/.xsession-errors
And you didn't provide any infos about your video card and driver,...
The boot warning is unrelated to the graphical issue with kde, it concerns the fsck checking of the root file system since systemd 204 update; there are threads about that you can find with a search in the forums.
Nobody can guess all these things above, because nobody has access to your machine apart you.
You need to show what you tried to solve your problem and ask only after that if you fail to find a working solution.
Good luck. -
KDE crash (and pannels disappear) after update
Just now I updated, and KDE was updated to 4.5.3-1. After that update, kwin crashed, and both desktop widgets and panels disappeared. I restarted X and that brought back the widgets, but not the panels... Which is very much annoying, because besides the default panel (the "taskbar"), I have another customized panel*, filled with links to the apps I use the most, and it is very cumbersome to rebuild it ...
The "fun" thing is, it turns out, that the the previous default panel was still present, although not visible, because after adding a new default panel, notifications started showing up twice. So I assume the same must have happened with the customized panel. But I was not able to get either of them back, so I created new ones...
Anyone else went through anything similar? Moreover, does anyone know how to create a "backup" of the contents of the customized panel, so as to minimize the hassle of creating a new one? (assuming such a thing is even possible)
Thanks in advance.
* It's an empty panel, to which I drag the apps links from the K-menu.I don't have this kind of problem. But if I would to try and make a back up of my plasma settings I'd check plasma-desktop-appletsrc in ~/.kde4/share/config

Can't start KDE applications after update to KDE 4.9 [SOLVED]
After updating to KDE 4.9, I can not start systemsettings, kwrite, konversation, digikam or any other KDE application using krunner or from a shell. Non-kde applications starts fine. Any help deeply appreciated!
Last edited by sredna (2012-08-09 15:10:14)I got no messages on the terminal, and restarting KDE or even rebooting did not help. But killing some stale processes did, so now I just wonder where those came from...
Thanks for your help anyways! -

XuYimin, can you please give more info on what you mean by "update (alsa)"? There is no "alsa" package in Arch as alsa & it's modules are part of the (linux) kernel.
As you have already gone into alsamixer to ensure the appropriate channels are unmuted & set at the desired level, have you also gone into your KDE systems settings -> Multimedia -> Audio and Video Settings & rechecked your settings?
sorry,it's really misleading in my words.what i want to say is 'no sound after update, and the sound system is alsa.'
i'm sure the approiate channels are unmuted. in the Video Setting, I tested all sound cards in the list, But i can't hear sound. -
[Solved]Qtcurve style disappeared after update
After updated to version 0.65.1-1,and now i can't select qtcurve from systemsettings-->styles,and in kdeglobals "widgetStyle=qtcurve",but in fact oxygen style is used .How can i get qtcurve style back?
Edit:I downloaded the PKGBUILD file and recompiled (version 0.65.3-1),just as Pierre said, and now it works. Thanks for all your replies.

Desktop effect disabled after update
Hello,
After updating kde 4.5 today, my desktop effects disabled and my awn navigator doesn't work properly.
When try to enable it, I get the message: Desktop effects suspended by other application. When restart with Alt-F12, awn disappears; when I shut down kde, I get the message -- Desktop effects is too slow disabled.
Before update everything worked perfectly.

Any idea what could be wrong?

After update udev mounts all partitions automatically (but shoudn`t)
Here goes: after updating udev from 167-2 to 168-1, it started mounting all partition at boot. No rules (the list and the rules are the default ones) seem to include this, and google said automounting MUST be set up by user.
Downgrading fixes the issue, but I try to keep the system up to date, so this is not an option. Also I do not want to disable udisk mounting by polkit, since I want to keep the option of mounting them via KDE.
Can anyone help please?

i changed the 'pass' value in the /etc/fstab to "0" for the mounted devices - this works temporarily for me so i can boot up the system.

I misread that the in kernel driver of v3.12 was working properly. THat way you can figure out what exact change broke performance by testing different development kernels.
There is an in-kernel driver in staging called rtl8192u. It received a lot of changes in v3.12. Maybe try v3.11 and see if that works?
it didnt work in kernel 3.12, but with https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/dkms-8192cu/ it worked perfect
in kernel 3.13 it is horrible both witht he stock driver or with the AUR package. -
[SOLVED]Problems after update do 4.3.2
Hi All. After update to newest KDE 4.3.2 on my both PCs when i start desktop enviroment i have a critical error of kdeutils-printer-applet. Does anyone experienced such a problem?
Last edited by Nixxx (2009-10-12 16:38:10)I've got two i686 machines, one seems to be running just fine (atom-based netbook), the other (older Athlon XP) doesn't seem to run anything, I can start KDM, which in turn starts the Xserver, but it flickers like it keeps crashing, then gives up. I can't use Xdmcp either, and I can't ssh -X tunnel KDE apps, I get this error when I try to X11 tunnel apps:
systemsettings: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libkdeui.so.5: undefined symbol: _ZNK6Sonnet66Sonnet6
I can tunnel non-KDE apps OK like Firefox and Arora, (I tried firefox) and run start TWM, so things aren't completely dead.

Plasma 5 fails to start after update
After last kde packages update, my plasma desktop won't start anymore. When I run 'startkde', I get the error:
➜ ~ startkde
startkde: Starting up...
KCrash: Application 'kdeinit5' crashing...
KCrash: Attempting to start /usr/lib/drkonqi from kdeinit
sock_file=/run/user/1000/kdeinit5__0

sock_file=/run/user/1000/kdeinit5__0
startkde: Shutting down...
klauncher: Exiting on signal 1
startkde: Running shutdown scripts...
startkde: Done.
I found that running with sudo it works. I tried chowing and chmoding 777 the directory /run/user/1000 but made no difference. All other desktop environments and applications seem to work normal. What could be causing this issue?
Thanks in advance and happy new yearFound the solution: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=85657

Hello
Thank you for your reply . I check again my keyword and I don't think it be a problem. The problem it I can't login in arch. and I can't do any thing -
This is my first post here. I have been an Arch user for nearly 2 years now and have finally had to troubleshoot an issue that had no fix on here or in the wiki so I wanted to share. After updating Plasma from 5.1.2 to 5.2.0 my touchpad on my Samsung series 3 was being disabled between the display manager and the KDE splash screen. To fix this I had to re-enable the touchpad in:
~/.config/ktouchpadenablerrc
from
touchpadEnabled=false
to
touchpadEnabled=true
I hope this keeps someone else from 2 days of troubleshooting.

Adobe Photoshop CS2 Error messages after update to mac os 10.4.6
After updated to mac os 10.4.6 everytime I use Photoshop CS2 I receive an error message "Could not complete your request because of a program error"
I did all the workarounds that were described in document 331627 from Adobe's website and nothing worked.
I also subscribe to maxosx.com support and someone suggested removing the legal.localized/Tien...file from the photoshop cs2/legal directory, but everytime I tried to select the directory "legal" from within the finder view, it disappeared and closed the finder window.
HELP!Did you upgrade from a previous version of OS X like 10.3.x or 10.2.x or from a prior version of 10.4.x? If the former, there are probably some files in your previous system folder that need to be restored.
Otherwise, double click Photoshop when it's closed, and then IMMEDIATELY hold Command + Option + Shift. You'll get a box for resetting the settings. Select Yes and maybe that will help.

I was updating Firefox to the newest version 7.0.1 from version 6.0.2 I think it was, I clicked the restart Firefox button that always comes up after updating. It started updating and then Firefox never restarted like it was supposed to after it was done updating. I then tried to open Firefox and it told me "This application has failed to start because xul.dll was not found." I did have Firefox crash on maybe about 30 minutes or so earlier which bothered me because I have been using Firefox for years and never had it crash on me before but I didn't think much of it at the time it happened because I was able to go back onto Firefox and finish what I had been working on. A while later I checked for updates and updated. The first time I tried to update it didn't work though so I had to shutdown Firefox and reopen Firefox and start the update a second time. It was after the second time that when I tried to open Firefox I got that message about failing to start because xul.dll can't be found. I filed a crash report when my Firefox crashed. This would have been around 1am-2am in the morning that Firefox first crashed and then wouldn't allow me to open it after updating. I have a DELL laptop running the Windows XP operating system but the laptop is probably at least 6 or 7 years old. The laptop will no longer charge so I always have to have it plugged into an outlet. Both my laptop hard drive and my external hard drive give me messages that I am running out of disk space on my hard drive. I bought this laptop 6 or 7 years ago second hand so it could be even older. In short it's a piece of crap and it gives me all kinds of issues but I currently can't afford a new one, but I have never had any problems with Firefox and I use Firefox more than any other aspect of my laptop so it's really really bothering me. May you please help me fix it?
Unfortunately I tried that and it didn't work. Thanks for the help though. I tried to uninstall and it said I couldn't because the file is corrupt or something, but I think I finally got it uninstalled and/or deleted or whatever, but now I try to reinstall/download it again from the beginning and I can't. No matter what I do I can not get Firefox working again. No matter how many times I try to redownload it. Any other suggestions?
