KDE Always Tries to Autostart Chromium.

KDE is always trying to autostart Chromium when I login. If I remove it from the Autostart programs it re-instates itself after a couple of reboots. I have KDE configured to start with an empty session and have added Chromium to the list of "Applications to be excluded from sessions". It's particularly annoying because not only doesn't Chromium start up, but while its trying to start it stops me doing anything with the desktop, or anything else, for a couple of minutes

Maybe there's some other place you should check https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/KD … p_disabled where the autostart settings might be stored.

Is this when updating apps or the iPad's iOS version ? If apps then any apps that your daughter downloaded onto the iPad will be tied to her account, so only her account can download updates to those apps (you would need to delete the apps and buy/download them with your own account to be able to download future updates to them with your account) then she could try getting her password reset via http://iforgot.apple.com
If you are trying to update the iOS version on it and she's left it tied to her iCloud account then with iOS 7 and activation lock only her account will be able to re-activate the iPad. She can try getting her password reset via the above iforgot link.

This sounds like it may be a question for the developers of Drive Mounter, as it sounds like that may still be trying to connect to that remote volume.
You could rule out other things before contacting them by checking your login items in System Preferences -> Users & Groups. Make sure that volume is not in that list. Also, check any other apps or services that may be automatically making use of that volume, such as Time Machine.

when exporting, movie always tries to fade to black toward the end. trying to export just one picture, i realize that when exporting multiple pics to a movie it fades to black at the end, but im just doing one pic. settings are as follows, ken burns effect is being used, settings in slideshow, transition are "none". settings in "adjust" show transition as "none" also. this is my first post so hope that this makes sense. thanks.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I tried to duplicate your settings and exported to a QT movie. The movie did not fade to black at the end. It does fade when played in iPhoto.
My settings were:
In the slideshow window:
Effect: none
Default transitiion: none
In the settings pane:
KB is checked, transition is none.
It's the same whether there's music or not.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

What's the problem? In theory a BT device can only pair with one machine at a time.

Startup always tries to find my other computer?

When I restart my computer, it ALWAYS tries to reconnect to my mac mini in the other room. ONE TIME I shared files between the two and now it ALWAYS looks for it when restarting.
How can I disable this? I looked in my startup items folder and there's nothing there that would make it look for the mini. Where do I look to stop this from happening?

If it is trying to find the other computer, and failing, whatever is looking ought to be posting error messages to the log file. Try launching Console from your Utilities folder and see if there are error messages, and, if so, exactly what they say. That might give a clue.
If there's nothing in the Console log, try clicking on the Logs icon in the toolbar and then click on the system.log--the newest log, which reports what the computer is doing when it starts up, begins with the time. I just started up 10 minutes ago, so I scroll up and see:
Nov 15 23:03:08 localhost kernel[0]: standard timeslicing quantum is 10000 us
Scroll down aways after that and you will see where it mounts your disks, with a message like this:
Nov 15 23:03:10 localhost diskarbitrationd[43]: disk2s10 hfs

After that the login window starts, and at some point thereafter would be the information that might solve the mystery.

Internet Explorer always trying to go through proxy

Hi everyone,
I'm having a strange issue with Internet Explorer - it's always trying to go through my corporate proxy server, which is available only while I'm connected to the corporate network via VPN. So the moment I disconnect from VPN, I must go to IE LAN
Settings and uncheck "Automatically detect settings". If I don't do that, no matter what, it won't get past the message "The proxy server isn't responding...".
I think I tried pretty much everything I could find relevant on TechNet... it still doesn't help.

We wonder if the corporate network has group policy for proxy settings, seems like your Internet Explorer keeps policy settings even when you disconnect from VPN.
Does closing and reopen Internet Explorer change the settings back?
The proxy setting registry entry is in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\
"ProxyEnable"=dword:00000000
1 for enable 0 for disable
When you disconnect from VPN, the value should be changed back to 0.
We suggest you perform a trace by using process monitor
As a workaround, the proxy pac file might be help.
Here is an example which can change your proxy settings according your network IP address.

IMac always tries to boot from CD

i installed Windows XP using BootCamp and since then the system always tries to boot from a CD. Now I have to hold down COMMAND while starting the computer to choose the harddrive.
How can I make the system boot from the harddrive automatically?

Hold down on the option key on restart.
Choose the mac os x volume icon and then click on the straight arrow.
Once booted into Leopard select system preferences from the apple menu.
Choose Startup Disk and set the volume you want to boot to on startup.
The option key allows you to boot to any volume without changing the default setting.
The Startup Disk preference allows you to set the default startup volume.

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

When Firefox freezes and reboot is needed, Firefox always tries to open the same tabs that caused failure before.

I use tabbed browsing all the time. When I open a tab to a website that causes a problem, freezing Firefox (but not the computer) I usually find that I can clear the Firefox problem only by rebooting the computer. I am then dismayed to find that Firefox then tries to recreate the same set of tabs that caused the problem in the first place, causing Firefox to freeze a second time. Usually I can get out of this by closing Firefox and waiting a very long time for Firefox to fully close so that it can be restarted again.
This problem happens in version 4.0 as well as in the last version of 3 that I had. I recall that in some earlier versions Firefox would ask if you want to recreate your tabs or open as a new browser window. I always took second option. That choice is no longer appearing.

Set the pref [http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes] to 0 on the about:config page to get the about:sessionrestore page immediately with the first restart after a crash has occurred or the Task Manager was used to close Firefox.
That will allow you to deselect the tab(s) that you do not want to reopen, but will allow to reopen other tabs.

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website. 
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page. 
You can use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a pref more easily.

im using the most current version of kde 4.2, and alsa with hda audio
snd_hda_intel
sound works great, but i cannot get it work on more than one program at at time. i tried pulseaudio, i tried esd and i blacklisted oss from my rc.conf.
every time i tried loading esd it would just fallback to my hda audio.
im not sure what to do now...i am running arch x64, may this have something to do with it?
any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Don't use ESD and PulseAudio, the only thing they make are problems.
Do you have a ~/.asoundrc or a /etc/asound.conf? If yes, try to delete them.
