KDE backlight problem, working in GNOME

Hi, I'm giving KDE a try, and havin't some issues with the backlight control with fn keys. I made this work in GNOME with a script (taken from Ubuntu) in /etc/acpi/
The problem is that I get a big notification on the screen in KDE telling "BACKLIGHT 60 %" and sometimes this will not go away. I also won't let me get full backlight, - if I press several times, it will go back to 40 % or 20 % even thought I'm pressing the + for more backlight.
So I need to disable this KDE function, because this works find until logging into KDE. How can I do this? I seared every setting in control center..
If I remove the script in /etc/acpi, backlight controlling stops working.

It's not a common problem. On a 4 day old MBP I would take it back to the store and request a replacement.

  • Problem with Macbook Pro early 2011, webcam not working in any apps and windows 7 or 8 on bootcamp, keyboard backlight not working?

    Hi Guys
I recently bought a second hand early 2011 Macbook Pro 15 inch and are having 2 problems. The first is that none of the apps detects my webcam at all, the second is, i have Windows 8 installed on bootcamp but are unable to get the keyboard backlight to work in 7 or 8. The backlight works perfect in os x 10.8.5 though. I need a little bit of help guys.....

Go to Apple Menu / About This Mac. Click on More Info ... next on System Report. In the left hand column, under Hardware, select USB. The right side will show the USB Device Tree. Look through that and check for "Built-in iSight". That is your camera. If it is not listed the camera is not working.
For backlighting, try this: go to System Preferences / Keyboard. Uncheck "Adjust keyboard lighting in low light".

  • Bluetooth, iSight and Keyboard Backlight not working. Please help!

My Bluetooth stopped working along with my iSight and Keyboard Backlight. I first noticed the weird sign over the bluetooth icon, and it read "Bluetooth not available". I payed no attention to it for a while until I tried to take a picture with Photo Booth and I read "No camera found", for some reason I tried to dim the backlight on the keyboard and a blocked sign appeared under the brightness level, not letting me do anything (Later I was able to use the backlight with the LabTick app). I have tried everything. SMC, PRAM, NVRAM, logging as diferent and new users, booting in safe mode... every solution I have found on the internet has been tested by me. Then I read this about the Hardware Test solution, and surprisingly after performing the Hardware Test no problems were found! So basically my MacBook Pro (mid 2010) is not having any trouble of any sorts with anything. Then why can't I use Bluetooth, iSight or Key backlighting (which only works through LabTick). Given the fact that the hardware test shows no problems I am not comfortable with the idea of taking it to repair. There MUST be something I can actually do to fix these issues.
Does anybody have any idea? I repeat, these are NOT WORKING, NOT FOUND AND NOT AVAILABLE.
    - Keyboard Backlight (Only works through LabTick)
    - iSight Camera (Not found by any software)
    - Bluetooth (No info appears on the system profile, the icon on the menu bar is completely gone)
All three issues happened at the same time, the night before everything was working perfectly fine.
    If anyone could help... please!!!
    Summary:
MacBook Pro Mid 2010 (http://support.apple.com/kb/SP583) Unibody, can't take out the battery.
    Solutions tried:
    - Reset SMC: Turning on while holding Shift + Ctrl + Option + Power Button (This makes my MacBook forget about the battery and start up with really loud fan noise, battery icon appears with an X on it, keyboard backlight buttons work, they show brightness level on screen, but the actual light won't work, no bluetooth, no isight)
-Reset PRAM and NVRAM: Turning on while holding Option + CMD + R + P (I have waited for 2 chimes, 3 chimes and 4 chimes at different times, nothing happens. Light, bluetooth and isight are still gone)
-Holding Power Button for 10 seconds, 20 seconds, longer... nothing changes.
-Creating and logging in as new admin user, nothing changes.
-Deleting the bluetooth.plist file and powering off and on again, also rebooting
-Deleting the SystemConfiguration folder, powering off and on again, also rebooting
-Installing "blueutil", didn't help at all, turned it off via terminal with command blueutil off.
-Performing Apple Hardware Test - Shows no erros or problems on any area after one full hour of testing (Performed the extended testing)
    -Leaving it powered off overnight
Please anyone help meee!! I can't afford going crazy!
Thank you so much in advance!
    Alvarock.

  • T400 Backlight Not Working

I got a Lenovo T400 and the backlight stopped working (LED). Anyone have any ideas?

I am having a weird problem where every 1/8 or so LEDs is not working - it looks like a bad solder joint deal.  At the bottom of my screen I get a row of dark shadows that are evenly spaced apart.  I took this to a shop to fix a year ago, but now it's back.  If i pinch the lower right hand corner of the screen, the shadows will temporarily go away.
My computer is out of warrenty, should I just go ahead and open it up with a solder gun?
Also, the pics you have of the screen would be great, so I can see what I'm looking for.

  • [SOLVED] Hotkeys still not working in Gnome 3.6

Hey guys.  So my hotkeys haven't worked since I first installed arch on this machine.  At first I ignored it, but as I've been working from home more lately it's really starting to irk me.  I read that it was a problem with the gnome-settings-daemon and that it would be fixed in gnome 3.6.  Well here I am with gnome 3.6 and it still isn't working.
I found a package called gnome-settings-daemon-updates in the repos and gave it a try.  Still no luck.  I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it but I've got an AMD 6850 card and I wasn't able to get X server working without keeping my xorg at 1.13.  I don't know if that is what is holding me back from juicy hot key goodness but I really need it.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks!
EDIT: So apparently I'm dumber than I thought.  A reboot fixed me right up.

  • Macbook pro late 2008 (unibody) backlight not working, trackpad issue

    Hi,
My wife is running 10.7.4 (Lion) on a MacBook Pro late 2008, first gen unibody. There is two issue with her computer.
The first issue is that the backlight keyboard is not working correctly. In fact, it is not working at all. My assumption is that it stopped working when it had a a display assembly replacement in 2010. My wife not behing to technical realized she did not had this feature when I bought a MBA 13" last year. It could be something with the system (OS) but I'm pretty sure it is not. I open the back of the case to see if something (a missing wire connectivity) could be found, but none step to my eyes. I did not want to dismantle everything in case I'll be making it worst!
The second issue is the trackpad. She told me many times that her mouse was not working as expected, and when I looked at, I finally found that the problem was not the mouse, but the trackpad. What I found is that the trackpad button, sometimes, stayed pressed. If that happen, eventually, the mouse is acting very trangely! My wife never uses the trackpad, so I can't figure out it is an abuse of it. To temporaly resolve the issue, I dissabled the trackpad when a mouse is connected in the Universal access system pref.
I plan to have it send to the Apple store next time I go near one. The Apple Care is expired...
    My questions are:
any idea of what may be the problem and is it repairable easily by myself?
Could it be that the trackpad is broken in anyway?
Could it be possible that the technician forgot to reconnect a cable near the keyboard (under the motherboard) that prevent the backlight to work?
    Thanks

  • Numpad stopped working under gnome

Somehow my numpad stopped working under gnome. It does work under GDM etc so somehow a setting must have been changed.
Problem is, I can't find that setting  :x
Someone any idea before I start deleting my gnome config files ?

You can just copy your files to other location
btw gnome (i think every gtk enviroments) uses keyboard settings from xorg.conf - maybe somethig is wrong with that file? Look at this, but i think first you may copy your gnome configuration to other place so you'll be sure if that is in your config or it is system error.

  • E63 light sensor & backlight problems

    Hi
I have got a new E63 and while I have seen plenty of discussions surrounding the problems with the light sensor not recognising darkness (not switching the keypad light on) I haven't seen any conclusive answers on how to fix this. It's only worked once in the week I've had the phone.
I was using the phone (the screen was still lit up) and I put it in my pocket and then took it out a second later and the keys were all lit up but when i put it in my pocket a second time and took it out it just as quickly it stopped working again and the keys were not lit up this time??? I have the latest firmware installed. (100.21.110) I haven't contacted Nokia yet but does anybody an E63 with a light sensor/keypad backlight that actually works properly?
Anybody know how to fix this?
    Thanks in advance...

Right! I think I have found the problem! The keypad backlight DOES work consistently. This must be a battery saving technique which is actually pretty cool but there is still a slight problem...
If you unlock the phone in a dark room (doesn't have to be pitch dark) the keypad lights up as the light sensor thinks there's not enough light for you to see the keys. If you switch a light on, the keypad lights go out. If you then switch off the light so the room is dark again the keypad lights won't come on. You have to wait till the screen light goes out then press a key and the keypad lights up again. I have done this 5 or 6 times in a row now and the slight problem it seems is that the light from the screen leaks into the light sensor so it doesn't recognise darkness until the screen light goes out. Hope this makes sense. This seems like a bit of a design flaw in the placement of the light sensor as it is obviously too close to the screen, which is why it thinks there is light in the room if the screen light is on
Hmm, come on Nokia, how can you overlook that one?

    thanks!

I too am having the same problem. This only seems to happen after I connect to a projector by the VGA port on my Lenovo T500. I use the display port to connect to a 30" apple cinema display and have no issues. Have not had much luck in finding what changes in the gnome config when this problem arises.
I am looking forward to anyone being able to explain what is actually changing and why. WIll continue to dig into this and post a workaround if I find one.

  • GE70 2PC Win8.1 backlight problem.

    Hello,
I spoke with support but don't have answer yet.
My backlight stop working after 30 minutes. Strange is that restart doesn't help but after night   when I power it on, backlight works again but only for about 30 min.
Software shows indicator for different keyboard backlight modes I can change modes in software and switch power on and off on numpad. Software works normal but keyboard stays black.
I'm not sure but it looks like keyboard and screen goes black because inactivity but only screen wake up when I  move mouse. Keyboard works but no backlight.
I'm not sure if it always same.
After restart keyboard stays black. Powering off for 15 minutes doesn't helps.
I bought it week ago without system with bios dated 16 or 14 April 2014, I didn't update it yet.
    It's GE70 2PC
I have installed windows 8.1 with all newest drivers and utilities from msi website. Without BIOS and battery firmware updates.
I'm not sure it's broken or it's some software related issue.
I think it have to be hardware if after restart keyboard doesn't have blacklight but it suddenly appears again after 8 hours of power off.
I'm very sorry for bad English
Do you have any ideas?  Should I try windows 7 before RMA?
Is any way to test keyboard light in DOS or BIOS?
    Appreciate for any tip.

Thank you for your reply. I will try to answer in simple words because my English is far from prefect.
This problem is annoying because i'm father of twins and I use this laptop only for 2-3 hours per day (late evening).
You must note that before I sent it for RMA I have installed fresh Win 7 64 with all windows update fixes, but without any recommended drivers from windows update (there was one - Intel GPU Driver which i installed when laptop came back from RMA and it was after backlit gone). I used all drivers and all utilities from MSI website. That day back light gone after 3 and half hours in idle. I just left laptop on at 9am and backlight gone before noon. Afternoon I sent laptop for RMA.
Do you have any additional external devices like mouse or headset...?
    yes, wireless Logitech G700 mouse
How is the keyboard back light working under battery mode?
    same
Does it light on all the time? What's the mode you set in SteelSeries Engine?
yes, standard, default mode - see screenshots below, please
When the keyboard backlight gone, is there any certain activity you're doing? (web browsing, gaming...)
no, it can be heavy gaming or idle, just after switch on or after few hours.
Did you make any system changes after you got the unit back from RMA?(update drivers, install games...)
Yes, i have installed recommended Intel GPU driver from windows update. Back lit gone on next day...
Anyway if it isn't hardware I have bad feeling about Intel power management (chipset or GPU) and ECO Power Modes from SCM (MSI software)

Acronis, Bandicam, Sony Vegas, VSO Converter were installed yesterday so it doesn't matter for issue with keyboard

  • Macbook Pro (early 2007) screen backlight problem (fixes temporarily with smc reset)

Hi all. Maybe someone can help.
My Macbook Pro was one of the units afflicted with the videochip/logic board thermal paste issue and Apple replaced the logic board a year ago.
I am having an issue that I can't figure out (I had the same exact issue a few months ago and it resolved after several smc resets)....
My screen backlight will flicker and then go out completely about 3 minutes after booting up. The ONLY way to get the light back on is to remove the battery, do an SMC reset and then it will work again perfectly....for about 3 minutes.....
The display is there....just not backlit...  Also, once or twice the computer booted itself into safe mode (I presume, because it said there was no wireless hardware)
I have tried SMC resets, pram resets, shutting down, going into and out of sleep, etc....
Has anyone else seen this problem?
I am confused by someone I know saying it could either be the inverter or inverter cable or the logic board. I say this because the computer will reset itself (albeit for only 3 minutes each time) and the backlight will work perfectly (again for only 3 minutes) after an smc reset....every single time.
    Any ideas?
p.s.....when this happened before and again this time, the computer was in extended sleep mode in my travel bag.....
Thanks for any answers and please let me know if you need more info......

(oh, I mentioned that it had the logic board previously replaced because when I called Apple they were ADAMANT that it couldn't possibly be the same issue since all afflicted boards were replaced with newly made parts....) just thought i'd throw that out there.....and the prior logic board issue didn't affect the backlight, but I did have the wonky graphics/lines/etc.  That's NOT the problem now.....

    Hi @emrejazz ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read about your HP G72-a50et Notebook having an issue with the screen backlight. I have found that if you run the compatability program it will most times fix this.
Have you checked for any updates?
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • I've tried everything to get my keyboard backlight to work, but it won't!

    Hi guys,
I know this subject has come up before, and I've tried all the suggestions given (ie re-booting, pulling the battery etc). When I pull the battery or re-boot, the backlight will work, but only for a few seconds and then dims again. Every now and again it will come on randomly, but none of the solutions I've found so far have worked for my Curve 9300.
Where do I go from here?? Help would be much appreciated!

I was trying to download TinyUmbrella because some people have said it basically kicks phones out of recovery mode, and I did try that but it hadn't worked, it kept loosing connection with the phone even though it was connected.
I took the phone to the O2 shop and they did something to restore it, so it's working fine finally thanks for replying!
