KDE Chrome open file instead of saving

Dear Everyone!
I have just switched to Chrome on my Arch linux. I use KDE (4.9.3-2), Chrome version is 23.0.1271.95-1. I installed optional dependency kdebase-kdialog as well. If I click on a torrent file it wants to save (same for pdf file, so I guess for this is true for any file). I would like to open the file with qbittorrent not to save it. In firefox there is an option which offers me the ability to decide what to do (open, save...). Surprisingly it works with magnet links (at first it asked what to do "based" on xdg-open). I googled around, one says Chrome file opening is based on xdg-open, here is what I have:
[x /usr/share/applications]$ xdg-mime query default application/x-bittorrent
qBittorrent.desktop
This is totally OK with firefox. Could somebody help me out here. Thanks in advance.

Well, you could set the download location to /tmp, or if you don't want to do this for every file, you could have it ask you where to download the file to every time. Other than that, I don't think there is a real solution.

Open Files w/o Saving

Whenever I have to open a .doc Safari automatically saves the file into my downloads folder. This is annoying as I don't always want to keep the file and constantly have to go into my downloads folder to clean it out.
I'm a recent windows switcher, and when I opened files in IE, it would give me the option to "open" or "save." Now I understand that even when I chose the open option, it would save a copy of the file into a temporary folder, but at least it's not a place I used regularly.
Is there anyway I can "open" a .doc w/o saving the file first to my downloads folder?
I heard that there's an open office plugin for firefox, that would essentially do this, but any solutions for safari?

Paste the document's URL into the Google search field, and if you're given the option to view it as HTML, do so. Alternatively, click here and use the plugin.

Opening a file instead of saving

I am using Adobe Acrobat Pro and Adobe Reader to it's most updated version in Firefox.
How in the world do I get a file to open instead of save?

The settings controlling this behavior are within Firefox, not within Reader.
You can find how to view PDF files in Firefox without downloading them in this page at mozilla.org.
To utilize Reader as a plugin, scroll down about halfway on the page, where it has instructions for using a plugin rather than Firefox's built in PDF viewer.

Can't open files I've saved in Garageband. Lion 10.7.1

I just starting using the Garag Band app that came with my new mac with Lion 10.7.1. I've used Garage Band before but I am getting alot of "Can't open that file" after I create something and save it and try to open it again. I believe my Garage Band app is updated. Almost seems like a bug. What can I do? Here's a few of the things that happens:
1. I open the app, choose new project, pick "piano", pick choose. New project from Template comes up, I name it and pick "Create" and then I get the message--"The file could not be opened".
2. Sooo, I go back to the menu with "new Project" highlight the piano icon and double click on new project and it opens. I do my project, save, and then when I try to open it again whether I double click on the file or open an existing file or whatever, I can't open the file. I've used garage band on a previous computer and this has never happened.
Am I saving incorrectly. I've tried saving it to the default gB file and to the desktop. It always appears but I cannot open it again. Any suggestions?

Make sure all your software is up to date by running "Software update" from the apple menu.
Then try again.
What are the protection settings for your newly created project?
Select a project you cannot open in the Finder, then open the information panel ("File -> Get Info", or type "cmd-I")
Disclose the "Sharing and Permission" section of the panel and look if the permissions are set correctly, and if the file is not locked, make sure the Filename ends with ".band" and "Garageband" is set to open the File.
Correct the protections, if need be.
If the problem persists, close Garageband and move the preference file (
/Users/your user name/Library/Preferences/com.apple.garageband.plist) to the trash, log off and in again, and try again.
As a last resort, reinstall Garageband

I have updated my numbers app on my desktop, but now I can't open files I have saved to my desktop. It tells me that it can't be opened and there is a newer version of numbers. I already have that. What to do?

Does anyone have an answer? I can't get apple support. I have files that I need that I can't open because I get an error that there is a new version of numbers, but I have already downloaded it.

Automatic: opening files in CS3, saving them, and exiting

Dear Adobe CS3 gurus, is the following task achievable for Adobe CS3?
Task is: I want to open Adobe CS3 app from windows command prompt (use start xxx etc); then, I want Adobe CS3 app to look into a specific folder, open all files in there, save them back (in the same folder), and exit.
Is the above task possible to do in Windows? If yes, how to do it?

But in order to use File/Automate/Batch it is necessary to have Photoshop open. And the original question was asking if it is possible to have Photoshop itself open, then process, then exit.
I cannot give you a lot of details on this, because I have never done it. But it is possible to create an action that does all of your processing and then save that action as a "droplet" which is an executable. Then, all that is required is for you to drop files onto the droplet icon and Photoshop will open, process and close. I don't know the syntax to get Photoshop to do what you want done from the command prompt.

Is it still possible to have the option to "open" a file when downloading it instead of saving it to the downloads folder?

The question pretty much says it all: the old versions of Firefox used to allow you to select "open" when downloading a file instead of saving it to a directory. I am fully aware that that's what selecting "open" does anyway, but I still like that option. Is it still available? That's one of my major irritations with Chrome, which I am considering switching from since Firefox 4 is faster.

I cannot open any pdf files that are saved to my computer. Keep getting error 507:507

Every time I try to open a pdf file from a website or through an email it will not let me opne the file. I can open files that are saved to my computer but that doesn't do me much good in some scenarios. I run IE 10 on Windows 7 Home with Adobe Reader XI 11.0.04. I have tried unsinstalling and reinstalling. It works fine for a few days then the errors start again. HELP!

does it shop up when you try the following?:
go to ''firefox > help > troubleshooting information'', click on ''profile folder/show folder'' and close all firefox windows afterwards. a windows explorer window should open up - in there rename/delete the file named '''mimetypes.rdf''' - it will be regenerated again the next time you launch the browser.

How to recover a file downloaded but not saved in firefox.(when downloading gave the open option instead of save)

I was downloading a large RAR file from the internet.
While downloading the file i didn't selected the save option instead i gave open with(winrar) option. I have some other rar files to combine with this file. So after the completion of this partial downloaded rar file is not saved in my system.How can i recover it.

But i already searched the windows and looked for that file.. But its not anywhere to be found. See first while downloading i gave the open option instead of save. So after the completion of the download the file opened automatically in winRAR. I tried to extract that file then it gave me some error. After that i closed the winrar and searched for that file in windows with search option but its not seen anywhere.

Why can't I open files directly like a normal browser instead of all the hassle of downloading and saving and browsing and finally opening?

For most file types (exe, zip, pdf, doc, xls, etc.) the option to "do this automatically from now on" is greyed out, and for the few types of files where I can check the box, a bug prevents it from working.
Similarly, Firefox cannot seem to handle *not* handling PDF files. They work ok with Acrobat embedded, but are extremely unreliable with external Acrobat or Foxit. Some PDFs will open, others must be saved somewhere first.

What can't I open a file (doc, jpg or pdf) instead of saving it?

I try to open a file (any file) and it only will let me save it. It says opening file, but the only 2 options are cancel or save. So now I have to save and then open - a pain. It worked fine before the upgrade to 3.6.6.

It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
