KDE Compiz Fusion - Workspaces...

I'm using KDE with the compiz-kde package from the AUR. My workspace switcher is wide for some reason and it doesn't work very well. Like this:
|-------------------|-----------------------|
|                         |                               |
|                         |                               |
|____________ |_______________ |
Instead of four squares. It also integrates very badly into KDE because is seems to be something that doesn't exist. Compiz Fusion uses it's own virtual workspaces. Can someone help me fix this?

Have the same problem as you

  • Gnome's Workspace Switcher applet + compiz-fusion

Up until around a week ago, Gnome's Workspace Switcher applet worked fine, but after some updates and
compiz.fusion-git disappearing from community the applet doesn't work like it should anymore.
Right now I'm using the [http://compiz.dreamz-box.de/i686] repo for compiz-fusion-git.
Do they provide the patched applet or do I have to patch it myself?

as you can see it wants install qt3-3.3.8-17 , delibs3-3.5.10-10 , compizconfig-backend-kconfig-0.8.4-1 , is there a way to prevent install KDE and QT3/4 stuff? I dont use KDE at all.
any advice would be appreciated, thanks

Try installing the packages themselves instead of the group. Basically it lists packages in the group, just install the rest except for kconfig backend.

  • Compiz-fusion and KDE integration lacking

I installed the latest compiz-fusion from the repositories.  It actually works quite well now which is great!
However, I still have a few issues, and I think this is from the difference between KDE's virtual desktops and compiz's viewports.  In order to get 4 viewports under compiz I have to set the number of virtual desktops in KDE to 1.  However, this breaks two things, I think because KDE thinks there is only one virtual desktop:
    1. The taskbar can no longer show only tasks from the current desktop (or viewports).  It now shows all apps from all desktops, and in fact there is no option to show only current desktop tasks in the control center.
    2.  It also breaks Konqueror's option to open new instances in a tab of a current open konq window.  In normal KDE, if it's on the same desktop if will open a new instance in a new tab, but if you are on a different desktop it will open a new window of konq completely.  With compiz, opening a konq instance will jet you back to the desktop which already has an open konq, and then add a new tab to it.  Which makes it difficult to open several distinct konq windows on separate desktops.
    3.  Different desktop backgrounds on each viewport?
Anyone have any solutions to these issues or are they still unfinished features within compiz?
    cheers,
    kilolima

Compiz was written in order to winnify the fail of GNOME. When some individuals dared to echo "Hey WTF am I doin' with OS 9?" at a time when milk and honey were crystal and shining in nature and 9 jumped to X (wherever did the Romans go?!), a significant figure came up with a brilliant idea codenamed Cum Piss.
It was only then that another group of individuals realised that GNOME needed a cosmetic facelift, without blasphemous tinkering deep within GTK+. This was only possible via disguising the very act of "facelifting" with "another application". This way, GNOME would continue riding the waves of GTK+'s troo freedamn. As to why nobody proposed the idea of "killingall -9 gnome", nobody knows.
The result was a welcome addition to the arsenal of GNU and Linux beauty, because it did something very beneficial to mankind - it made GNOME look "good", something which was never thought to be achievable even by the GTK+ priests. Inherent beauties like KDE soon began wearing the veil of this new product to enhance the auro (GNOME for hidden popularity) of their masters. It was like an accessory, like a wig to a french model. Thus, today we have Compiz maintaining pragmatic relations with KDE, because the combined magnificence is a secret (and hidden) love affair. However, to sustain development, total emphasis will continue to be placed upon sustaining the GNOME facelift. Due to this very reason, injuries in KDE are often left untreated. It's like a rich daughter wanting to marry the handsome gardener (who, by the way, has trashed many real Gnomes since dogs just eat them and leave a big mess in the ponds), where the consequences are always dark.

  • Compiz-fusion, nvidia GeForce 8600M GT, no Compiz-fusion configurator.

    Hi there,
I have few issues with the Compiz-fusion...
    1. I have the Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT card, one thing is for sure - i can play The Witcher without any trouble. And Compiz-Fusion is running very slow... Maybe not very slow, but i think, that a card that can handle The Witcher - should have no trouble with sth like Compiz-Fusion... I've installed the newest Nvidia drivers, everything seems to be OK... But it isnt... C-F is running slow, making me mad ;]
    2. I can't use the ccsm... AFAIK, ccsm should be the graphical configurator for Compiz-Fusion... But i have some trouble with locales... i'm using Polish locales, and the (standard?) en_EN UTF8 locales...

    Thanks for the reply.
I did that, restarted Xserver with Ctrl+Alt+Backspace
no black screen after fusion-icon command this time (I suppose because Option "AllowGLXWithComposite" is off)
but when i select Compiz as a Window Mnager from fusion-icon I have no borders in my windows and no effects and I canot switch throw windows. Why is that...?
after fusion-icon command I take this exit:
    * Detected Session: kde
    * Searching for installed applications...
    * No GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap with direct rendering context
... nor with indirect rendering, this isn't going to work!

compiz (core) - Error: Failed to manage screen: 0
compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0
Why I take Xlib:  extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
    and
compiz (core) - Fatal: glXCreateContext failed
compiz (core) - Error: Failed to manage screen: 0
compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0
is there something wrong wiht my drivers? I installed them from the official repo.

  • Unable to get Compiz Fusion working...

I'm aware this isn't a new issue, but the Wiki has so far been unable to solve my queries.
I've just freshly installed Arch on my new PC: Pentium-D 3.8Ghz, 2Gb of RAM and an ATi Radeon X1950 Pro (PCI-E).
I've installed Compiz Fusion as suggested via the wiki. When I run the fusion icon and activate compiz, I am left with no window borders and no working compiz. I've followed the troubleshooting section on the wiki to no avail. The problem remains.

  • Assuming video is not compatible with compiz-fusion...?

I'm installing ArchLinux on a extra computer at work... works great... but for the fun of it I tried running compiz fusion on it. I get this:
    [root@myhost ~]# fusion-icon
    * Detected Session: kde

compiz (core) - Fatal: No GLXFBConfig for default depth, this isn't going to work.
compiz (core) - Error: Failed to manage screen: 0
compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0
    * Setting window manager to KWin
I'm just using an xorg.conf that was generated with #X -configure, and have also tried one generated with hwd -x.  Both detect  "sis" as the video driver.  Listing below...
Am I right to assume that this means that the video in not compatible with compiz? Or could it be some settings that need to be tweaked.
    Thanks for any advice.

Are you 100% sure? I just run glxinfo and it says:
    direct rendering: Yes
And I'm confused. Are there any chances of getting compositing to work on SiS card in this case?
I'm not the expert here, but compiz can work with indirect rendering, so I don't think that's the qualifier for if it works for your system.

I also tried launching it with dbus but got the same problem.
I see that I'm missing the texture_from_pixmap but I'm not sure how to fix that. Help?

    Martycz wrote:

Along with all the other problems in this world that are all Adobe's fault.
OK so this all went pear shaped after updating Windows to 8.1?  Have a look at Preferences > Performance and see if Graphics acceleration is still checked.  Or it might even be greyed out.    Apparently the 8.1 installer arbitarily installs a generic graphics card driver, so you might find that your drive is not so up to date as it used to be.
You know that you need to update it from the card maker's site?

  • I can't turn off Compiz-Fusion.

I followed the wiki instructions for autostarting Compiz-Fusion by having KDE load it instead of kwin from the start (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Com … id_KWIN.29). Now I undid it, but apparently it's a one-way function. Compiz-Fusion still loads every time I start KDE, only now it loads after kwin.
Obviously I can run kwin --replace from the konsole, but I'd like to actually fix it.
    Why is Compiz-Fusion still auto-starting?

hencethus wrote:I'm running kdm as a daemon, so I'm pretty sure ~/.xinitrc isn't checked when I load KDE.
yeah thats the way to go. so.. try this:
    man chmod
change chmod +x /usr/bin/compiz-fusion to what it was..
    and clear out your ~/.bashrc
    good luck

  • Trouble With latest Compiz-Fusion. Fusion-icon doesnt show

Ok, I've updated to the latest build in the http://arch.nesl247.org/compiz-fusion/i686 repo...
I can't seem to get the icon to launch.
It starts via CLI, but I can never see it.
Addtionally, I cannot launch the Compiz-fusion manager via menu or icon.  It just times out.  If I start it via CLI though, it comes right up.
What other information can I provide?  Im at a loss on how to fix this.  I am using KDEmod.

  • When will compiz fusion go into the official repositories?

The next release of compiz fusion will be stable. Will it go into the repositories then? Or will it have to wait longer? I am using KDE so the unofficial compiz fusion repo is out of the question. I'm guessing they'll be all the packages available, including the one which doesn't require gconf. I don't know how to edit the PKGBUILDs in the AUR to integrate into KDE. Could someone help me with that as well?

Sounds like your home PC is using POP to access your mail server, and downloading the message (not leaving a copy on the mail server) ... You might find it better to use IMAP, if possible - with an IMAP server you can access your mail on either your home computer or your Touch, messages read on either device will show as read on the other, and sent mail is also sync'd between devices. All around, a MUCH more elegant solution than using POP3.

  • [unsolved] SLOW Scrolling with Compiz-Fusion on Intel

Hi there, i just installed Compiz-Fusion according to instructions on the wiki, however it won't run fine in many aspects:
    a) Scrolling just slows KDE really bad, from konsole to firefox almost freeze the system while scrolling. it's just soooooo slow.
Hell I managed to fix some bugs, but the scrolling problem persists.
I've got an intel 845 video card, which has run Compiz-Fusion in an useable mode until now (at least that was in Ubuntu, back when I used it)...
I use fusion-icon to launch compiz...
    Ideas?
    Thank you so much.
PD: I changed the options removing sync to vblank and increased the refresh rate to 100, overriding also the autodetection of that rate also... all the options are correctly configured in xorg.conf

  • [SOLVED] Gnome + xf86-video-ati = Compiz-fusion can't start wo f-i

I know this is not a new issue but... let's try again.
The title is pretty much the situation. I reinstalled the whole system recently and installed Catalyst which worked good except for a delay on maximizing/resizing windows. Yesterday I saw the new about Catalyst going to AUR and all that stuff so I decided to switch to open source drivers. They work pretty good but the wiki-way to start compiz without fusion-icon which used to work with catalyst does not work anymore.

    In your compiz.desktop instead of:
    Exec=compiz ccp
    It should be:
    Exec=compiz --sm-disable --ignore-desktop-hints ccp --indirect-rendering
    Edit:
If you still have problems after that you need to export LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1, which is what fusion-icon is doing.
