KDE does no longer start - DBUS error - Awesome WM related problem
Hi,
so I somehow managed to screw my KDE. I can no longer log in as my standard user, when I enter my username & password into the login-manager, the start process ends with a Window showing 'Could not start D-Bus. Can you call qdbus?'. When I press ok, I land back in the log-in screen.
The following is the content of ~/.xsession-errors:
/usr/bin/startkde: line 22: /usr/share/config/kdm/kde4-config: No such file or directory
Agent pid 2157
startkde: Starting up...
startkde: Could not start D-Bus. Can you call qdbus?
and at the end of the /var/log/kdm.log:
klauncher(2188) kdemain: No DBUS session-bus found. Check if you have started the DBUS server.
kdeinit4: Communication error with launcher. Exiting!
kdmgreet(2182)/kdecore (K*TimeZone*): KSystemTimeZones: ktimezoned initialize() D-Bus call failed: "Not connected to D-Bus server"
kdmgreet(2182)/kdecore (K*TimeZone*): No time zone information obtained from ktimezoned
Strange thing is, Dbus is running, so that should not be the problem.
So, I have asked around in the IRC channel, and was advised to move my .kde4 config, so that kde would create a new one. That did unfortunately nothing, the same problem persists. So then I created a new user for testing and voila, KDE starts under this user with the generated configs (even with the configs from the old user, though he wants to start everything as the old one and that causes problems).
Now my question is, what could be causing the problems? Dbus is surely running, as I can log in as the new testing-user, it also shows up in the process list, when I am logged in. Unfortunately it does not start up when I try to log in as the old user, and hence I can't start KDE. I was told, I could just delete the old user and create a new one to solve this issue, but I would like to avoid that.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
EDIT: Apparently the problem is related to awesome, after installing awesome, KDE seems to break after awesome is installed for every present user on the system. See also post #4.

What happens if you reboot after uninstalling awesome, instead of just log out/log in? Does kde work again then?
Nope, did that immediately after KDE broke. Rebooted actually several times without awesome installed and it didn't help.
berbae wrote:You didn't say how you launched awesome: from kdm or from console or other way?
It is started from kdm.
berbae wrote:Say also if you have the systemd kdm.service enabled.
Cant tell you that right now, don't have the machine at work. Will check that later.
berbae wrote:
Look what processes are running (especially the dbus-daemon and xorg related processes):
before any WM/DE is launched,
when awesome is launched and running,
when you log out from awesome,
when you log in again, trying to launch kde
Use tty2 to check for the processes, when you don't have a command prompt (ctrl-alt-F2).
Only by searching you could find a clue for the possible cause of the problem; it will be the learning way.
As far as I remember it, dbus-daemon is launched when the system boots up. When I log in as a new user (hence with working KDE) it automatically starts another dbus process for kde as the new user. If i try that as the old (broken KDE) user, no dbus is started (and hence the problem).
berbae wrote:...Or take the easy way: just use a new user and don't install awesome again if you don't want to use it!
That was already suggested by some people in irc. I would like to avoid that because of two reasons:
first, I find this very unclean and ugly, I would like to fix the problem at its root
and second, I am afraid, that I might break the permissions in my whole home directory and nothing works anymore.
What I am currently suspecting is that when I install awesome (and probably also log in) it runs some script that configures dbus per-user and that breaks compatibility with KDE. Could you imagine something like that?

patPlease clarify: do you really mean the over a decade-old, archaic, obsolete Photoshop 5.x, or are you referencing Photoshop CS5?
If the latter, please don't refer to it as "PS5". Are you sure you are trying to start Photoshop in 64-bit mode? Photoshop CS5 is the only Mac version that ever offered a choice between 32-bit and 64-bit modes.
In 32-bit mode, Photoshop CS5 can only have access to a very limited amount of RAM.
Your 4 GB of RAM are very, very little RAM these days. You don't even mention the exact version of your OS.
Also, give machine details:

If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand,
such as your platform (Mac or Win),
exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop (not just "CS6", but something like CS6v.13.0.6) and of Bridge,
your settings in Photoshop > Preference > Performance
the type of file you were working on,

if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them,
if you're having printing issues, indicate the exact make and model of your printer, paper size, image dimensions in pixels (so many pixels wide by so many pixels high). if going through a RIP, specify that too.

On boot, or at any time, when dbus starts, I receive the following error message
Failed to start message bus: The pid file "/var/run/dbus.pid" exists, if the message bus is not running, remove this file
If I delete this file and then manually start dbus, then there is no problem. However, on the next reboot, I receive the same error. I'm not able to permanently fix the issue.
Any ideas?
Thanks.remove the file and run it again:
killall dbus ; rm /var/run/dbus.pid ; /etc/rc.d/dbus start
or change in the /etc/dbus-1/system.conf the line about the pid file:

Hello. I am receiving "error codes" when trying to dowload songs. It charges me but the songs never download and I have restarted itunes and it does not automatically start downloading as instructed online. Help?
I don't know exactly what they said b/c they are nolonger on my screen. It said something to the effect of "incomplete dowload, there was an eror during the dowload of *Song*".
The songs purchased were showing in my purchased list with an "exclamation point" by them, which I believe indicates the download was incomplete. I restarted iTunes and the songs are no longer on my "Purchased list".
I was still charged after restarting iTunes -

Can no longer start KDE [Solved]
Hey everyone
My install of KDE just got borked. It goes through it's initialization process up to "Restoring Session", and then freezes at around 71% completion of that task. I've wiped out everything in /tmp, and removed everything in ~/.kde/share/config/session, but this behaviour still remains. Are there any other files I should be clearing out to get a "clean" start to KDE, and where should I look to for logged errors (couldn't find it in ~/.kde or /var/log)?
ThanksAlright, I'm not using KDM so no easy log there.
I backed up ~/.kde to ~/.notkde
I eventually found out that there was a problem with a file in ~/.kde/share/config which starts with a k. I've further narrowed that problem down to a file that starts with k[v-z]. I'll fill in the suspect file in a bit - right now my desktop is back to the way it should be, so I'm happy -
[solved] KDE 4.11 Terminal does no longer work
After updating to KDE 4.11 (among other packages) the terminal/console does no longer work. It's still loading, but basically I can only see a blank and that's it.
I already moved the .kde4 folter because that has lead to problems in the past when updating to new version of KDE 4 but that didn't do it.
Any ideas appreciated, thanks!

This problem is present since about the release of 4.11 of KDE. Howerver usually 1 reboot is enough, and everything works fine again.
But today i had to restart my system 5x till finally everything is working fine.
The Problem: KDE loads only the network-applet on the systray (kmix and clipper are not visible) and it takes around 10 seconds till i can launch the kickoff-menu. After that i get a warning about my one autostart-programm, which is obviously running, and if i really want to try to run in twice. (Btw, if i choose no, then it is not loaded, which is kind of strange too). I am not able to use the reboot/shutdown option in the kickoff-menu. Dolphin or other apps seems to load fine. Only solution for me so far is to reboot the system.

You must export __GL_YIELD="USLEEP" to prevent large CPU overhead on synced swaps
Preferably, enable the TripleBuffer Option in the xorg.conf Device
For this reason, the tearing prevention has been disabled.

KDE and kde apps don't started
Couple of days ago i had installed arch32 from arch64 using this how-to https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sw … i686_HOWTO, everything works fine except i needed to reinstall man-db & delete libreoffice configuration dir. Yesterday evening i installed kde, and kdm works just fine, but when starting kde the splash window reaches the first icon & crashesh. xinit/slim do that too, also apps wont start.

Bluetooth : Blueman dbus error
Hello dear archers,
I am facing a problem trying to setup bluetooth at my desktop pc. It is a USB Bluetooth donge.
I followed http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Bluetooth but i cannot launch blueman-manager.
I get the following error :
Connection to BlueZ failed
Bluez daemon is not running, blueman-manager cannot continue.
Further in the wiki i tried
[razor@RAZPC-LIN ~]$ hcitool scan
Scanning ...
00:25:BC:65:D3:75 anna petraki's iMac
00:22:98:1E:E1:C7 1 mouni stin axladia
So the bluetooth device is actually working. Then i tried using the bluez-simple-agent:
dbus.exceptions.DBusException: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.bluez was not provided by any .service files
I have installed all the python packages for bluetooth ( dbus-python pygobject python-pybluez )
Do you have any idea what is going wrong?oh yes, sorry forgot to mention, both of them are started. here is my /etc/conf.d/bluetooth
[razor@RAZPC-LIN ~]$ cat /etc/conf.d/bluetooth
# Bluetooth configuraton file
# Bluetooth services (allowed values are "true" and "false")
