KDE: Getting Networking Interface into System Tray

Hi,
How am I supposed to get Networking Interface applet into the System Tray?

KDE4 Network Management plasmoid, git version
Got the applet installed, but when started, it shows no inclination to get into the tray on its own accord. It's there on another box, but I can't remember how it got there in the first place ...

Thanks, arojas!
Is there a way (need) to lock them back?

  • Disabling Right Click Menus for Network Magic's System Tray Icons for Standard and Guest Accounts

OK, so I want to know how to disable the right click menus for Network Magic's system tray icons only for Vista's standard and Guest accounts?   I don't want other users signed in as a Standard account or guest account having the ability to disable the system tray icons for network magic.

Hi, currently it's not possible to disable NM from being accessed by a Limited user account, but that is a good idea.
    My Cisco Network Magic Configuration:
Router: D-Link WBR-2310 A1 FW:1.04, connected to Comcast High Speed Internet
Desktop, iMac: NM is on the Windows Partition, using Boot camp to access Windows, Windows 7 Pro 32-bit RTM, Broadcom Wireless N Card, McAfee Personal Firewall 2009,
Mac Partition of the iMac is using Mac OS X 10.6.1 Snow Leopard
Laptop: Windows XP Pro SP3, Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG, McAfee Personal Firewall 2008
Please note that though I am a beta tester for Network Magic, I am not a employee of Linksys/Cisco and am volunteering my time here to help other NM users.

  • Vista Network Icon in System Tray Disappeared

I'm running Vista on my MacBook and a few weeks ago, I noticed that my networking icon that displays when i'm connected via LAN or wireless disappeared. I have no idea how to get it back. There used to be a way in XP that I know of but I'm lost here. Anyone got any ideas?

*Right Click* on an empty portion of your taskbar.
Choose Properties on the window that appears.
    Choose the *Notification Area* tab.
Look below for *System Icons* section and ensure that there is a check mark next to Network.
This will show the network/Lan/Wireless icon in the system tray.

  • Why do I get 2 entries in System Tray for a LV executable

For every executable produced by Labview, I get two entries in the System Tray. Am I doing something wrong? One entry is all gray with only the name of the executable, the other has the Labview Icon then the name of the Executable.
Takes up a lot of space making it hard for the user to know what they are.
Thanks for any insite. Not earth shaking, but a nuisance.
    Thanks again, Bob

In the ini file for your executable create a section with the same name as the executable and put the follwing key in it:
    HideRootWindow=True
That will get rid of the second Task bar listing.

    IPv4 dhcp server
    IPv6 dhcp server
can any one let me know the command to get the above info?

    Hi,
on Solaris 10 you can use the dladm command. Have a look at the man page, e.g.:
    dladm show-dev
e1000g0 link: up speed: 100 Mbps duplex: full
e1000g1 link: down speed: 0 Mbps duplex: half
e1000g2 link: unknown speed: 0 Mbps duplex: unknown
e1000g3 link: unknown speed: 0 Mbps duplex: unknown
    dladm show-link
    e1000g0 type: non-vlan mtu: 1500 device: e1000g0
    e1000g1 type: non-vlan mtu: 1500 device: e1000g1
    e1000g2 type: non-vlan mtu: 1500 device: e1000g2
    e1000g3 type: non-vlan mtu: 1500 device: e1000g3
Also have a look at ifconfig, e.g. ifconfig -a

  • System Tray Status Error Message

HP CP1025nw.  XP.  with USB connection.  Printer works fine, but gives error message on screen, "HP Systems Tray has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvienience."    "Please tell Microsoft about this problem.  (send or Don't send)"
I get 2 copies of this error message (one at a time) wnen the computer is booted up (even if the printer off and USB unplugged) and 2 copies in addition for each "print command" from all various application sources.  The printer works fine and prints are fine and there no functional issues.  If the driver is uninstalled, then  there are no error messages at boot-up.  Latest HP driver is installed, same problem as with driver on OEM disc.
(a screen copy of error message is avialable)

    Hi Ronpro,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are getting a message "HP Systems Tray has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvienience."  "Please tell Microsoft about this problem".
I will be happy to help you.
I believe the error is for the HP Device Settings options for the printer maintenance located on the Windows system tray.
I would run a full uninstall and reinstall. Turn off any startup programs interfering and temporarily turn off the Antivirus Software to get the full software installed properly.
    Disconnect the USB cable first.
    Uninstalling the Printer Software.
I would disable all the start up programs to make sure something in the background isn't causing any issues.
Go to start, run, type in msconfig, click the Services tab.
Click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box.
Click Disable All, and then click OK.
Click on the start up tab across the top, select disable all, apply, OK and restart the computer.
Temporarily turn off the Antivirus software.
Then reinstall the printer software again.
    Full Feature Software and Driver.
    Test the printer.
Check to see if the Device Settings feature will now open.
Cleaning the Paper Path and Exterior.
Restart the computer to see if the error comes up again.
Then go back in and enable the startup programs and Microsoft services and turn the Anitivirus software back on.
If the issue comes back after turning on the startup programs, I would leave everything unchecked except the Antivirus Software.
Please let me know if you need further assistance.
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.
    Have a great day.

  • Bootcamp Control Panel Gone (Windows 7 System Tray)

After I installed Windows 7 64-bit using bootcamp, I had a system tray icon for the Bootcamp Control Panel. It recently disappeared and I can't get it to appear back. Without the control panel running properly, it looks like the volume keys, backlit keyboard, etc don't work anymore in Windows.
I have tried the things I could find in these forums and through online searches but nothing has worked:
    1) Uninstall and then reinstall Bootcamp drivers and controll panel program using the OSX install DVD. I installed "Boot Camp Update for MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010) (Windows 64 bit)"
    2) Using msconfig to confirm Bootcamp was in the start up program list (it was already in the list so I unchecked it, rebooted, then checked it again, an rebooted)
    3) Running Bootcamp.exe in Windows Vista compatibility mode
    4) Checking my registry for the entry being there correctly (it was)
    5) Customising the "notification area icons" to make bootcamp have the "Show icon and notifications" behavior.
None of these things worked. For additional information, I see that Bootcamp.exe is in the Windows task manager process list so it seems to be running.
How anyone found a solution to get the control panel system tray working again?
    Thank you!

    Hi Flying High,
Thanks for the response. The little gray square for the Boot Camp Manager has shown up in the notification area before (accessible through the little arrow on the right side of the screen), but the problem is that it doesn't show up anymore.
I just tried uninstalling Boot Camp and all the drivers, and then reinstalling it again from the DVD and using the "Boot Camp Update for MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2010 (Windows 64 bit)"...
The little gray square for the Boot Camp Manager showed up after the first reboot and the function keys worked (like volume control), but when I rebooted again, the notification manager didn't show up and none of the function keys work anymore. So back to square one.
Has anyone had this problem with the Boot Camp Manager showing up in the notification ares only after the initial installation but not after reboots?
    Thank you!

  • Networkled - system tray network traffic monitor

    Hello,
Networkled is a small system tray utility which shows the flow of traffic on a network interface. It is written in C++ and Qt4. It shows the flow by blinking LEDs. It can also be put in startup of WMs, for example, load it after loading tint2 or pypanel on openbox by adding it to openbox's autostart.sh. I've also added a PKGBUILD to the aur by the name "networkled-git" since its hosted on github.com
    http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=36560
Hope you guys like it and also give your opinions and suggestions if you think some essential features are missing and should be there .
    Thanks.

Seems to be nice, however how is this different from KNemo?
    http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=12956
The only difference i noticed is that it depends only on qt4, while KNemo depends on qt4 and kdelibs.

    Hi!
I have a WD my book external hard drive plugged into my imac and I want to share it over my network with my apple tv. I went into system preferences > sharing, checked "file sharing" and added my external hard drive to the shared folder. So now it is listed in "shared folders" but under "users" everything is grayed out (it says "read and write" for "everyone" - but "read and write" is grayed out, and it doesn't let me add or subtract users). Now I can access all of the folders I shared from my imac except for the externalhard drive. What's going on?

Hi RRFS!,thanks for help.I forgot to tell that hard drive has 2 partitions 1:format :Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and that works properly,2:format:MS-DOS (FAT32) and when i "get info" for both :first has shering & permitions:You can read and write - with name and privilege, second has shaing & prermissions:You can read and write- without name and privilege

  • Getting the network interface up in solaris 10

    Hi,
I am a solaris newbie and am trying to get the network interface up on solaris 10. I have set the required details in
    /etc/hostname.if
    /etc/hosts
    /etc/inet/ipnodes
    /etc/inet/netmasks
    /etc/defaultrouter
yet on the startup i get a message "failed to bring up IPv4 interfaces : interfacename"
And when the server starts up after giving the command "ifconfig if up"
    the network interface comes up.
I need to get the interface up on the startup itself.
can anyone help me on this ?????
    Thanks in advance,

... and of course, you need compatible hardware.
But you failed to tell anyone what Ethernet adapter you're trying to use.
Is it on the HCL ? http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/
If it requires third party driver software, did you install that as well ?
You failed to tell anyone whether you're installing to Solaris x86 or to Solaris SPARC.
( For example, a PeeCee NIC will generally just not work in a SPARC system. )

  • How to detect ipaddresses of other systems in a given network Interface ??

Guys ... I know only the Network Interface and I want to know the IPAddresses that have been assigned to the other systems on that Network Interface .. I m making an application on packet sniffing..
I want to show the list of hosts on a given Network Interface or device when a User selects one..
but I just can't seem to find a method ...
I know this is kinda easy .. but plz help me out..
eg:- The User selects Nvidia Ethernet device...
then i want to display all the computers that are connected to the Nvidia Ethernet device ..
in short , I want to know ip addresses of other systems on a network ........

    itssumitrai wrote:
Well... yeah I m making use of jpcap ..
and yeah just as windows generates a list of computers on a network , I wanna show
the list of computers along with their Ip addresses reachable vi a network interface ....
Certainly there would be a way to access that very information using the Windows OS API.
And plz .. its pretty clear what i want to do .. just help me out instead of finding mistakes in terms ....Help...
Unless you are the owner of that network then I suggest that you get permission in writing (pen and ink rather than email) before doing whatever it is that you want (unless you use the windows API).
People have been fired, expelled and had civil/criminal legal proceedings against them for network scanning even when they thought they had permission.

  • How to minimize window into the system tray icon

    Hi,
I tried to fin how to minimize the application main window into the right down corner (system tray bar) only as an icon cause I don't want to have it on main bar.
    Thx for any ideas.
    Wenca

I've already done that, some years ago.
Sorry, but I cannot give you the code, cause it has vanished after a few (!!!) system re-installations ;)
But this was the main idea:
    - make a jni-dll
    - inside the dll, get the handle to the window you want to minimize
    - alter that window's properties
It's rather easy, once you've avoided all pitfalls. I'll suggest http://www.codeproject.com , they've certainly some tutorials on minimizing to the system tray.

  • [KDE] amarok system tray icon opens instead in window

Apologies if this has been answered; I really wasn't sure the correct search terms to use, which is really the most important part in solving any problem.
So, I'm a six-month Kubuntu (and Linux) user switching to Arch because, well, I wanted more control over what I had installed on my system.  That, and the fact that the *buntu distro maintainers won't update the NVIDIA driver, even though the one in there doesn't work with the kernel shipped with Hardy... anyways.
I always have amarok open, but when I boot up, I get the amarok icon in the top-left corner (looking like this), rather than in the system tray.  Usually closing and reopening will produce the desired effect.
However, I would like for this to work properly without having to close and reopen, since that negates the benefit of having it start automatically.  I'm thinking that perhaps I should write a script that will close it on logout and open on login?

Not a solution but a workarround, i don't use saved sessions in kde and have a script in ~/.kde/Autostart with things I want to start, might as well try that

How do I get the speaker icon to STAY in my system tray?  Every time I mute the speakers, the icon disappears from my system tray.  I have a very difficult time getting it back, and I can never remember how I do it.  Can someone give me some helpful, easy to remember steps on how to KEEP the sound/volume icon in my system tray?  Thanks.

I did what you said.  There is not a "system icons to always show".  What it does say is "turn system icons on or off".  The one for the sound icon is greyed out and CANNOT be clicked on.  This happens every time I mute the speakers.
So, how do I get it back?
    Candy
In the menu that said "turn system icons on or off", try clicking on the blue writing on the bottom left of that menu that says "restore default icon behaviors".
