Kde, Konqueror & audiocd:/

I'm having problems with audiocd:/ protocol in Kde. If I try to open audio cd with konqueror I get
unknown protocol: audiocd
Still, I'm able to play the cd with amarok and rip the cd with k3b.
What's wrong with the audiocd protocol?

Reinstalling kdemultimedia seems to fix things.

  • KDE: Konqueror with man pages - also Firefox/Shiretoko styles

    Greetings!
I've only recently started using Arch.  Two weeks ago I installed, and so far all is going well, and I have to say that I'm very impressed with both the quality of this distribution and the thoroughness of the Wiki.
I've encountered two minor annoyances that I simply can't figure out, and can't find in the Wiki...
    1) I like using Konqueror for man pages when I have a GUI because they are somewhat easier to read.  Anyway, Konqueror displays them, but it's as if I haven't gotten the character set correct or something.  What happens is that some of the formatting code comes through as text.  For example, I'm looking at the smb.conf man page in another window right now, and the first several lines of text look like the following:
    SMB.CONF
Section: File Formats and Conventions (5)
." make the size of the head bigger
\  ." make the size of the head bigger  \
    2) I'm using Firefox installed straight from the repository.  I next installed and used lxappearance appearance to change the style to the QTCurve style as suggested in the KDE Wiki page.  This works great, and Firefox looks more like a native KDE application right up until I log off.  When I log in, Firefox is back to looking like a foreign application again, and I have to run lxappearance again.  It only takes a few seconds, so it's an annoyance at worst, but it is somewhat annoying.  I have not tried switch2 or gtk-chtheme, perhaps I should?
I can't believe I'm the first one to have these problems - but I've been searching and reading the Wiki as well as the general internet and haven't lucked onto anything for either problem.  I would really appreciate a link or hint pointing me in the proper direction for either or both of these problems.
Thanks for any tips or links!
    Chris

Er... my 's's have magically returned? But I have no idea why. I didn't even restart Firefox. (I'd already tried that and it made no difference.)
Would really like to know why...
EDIT: I still don't have 'm's etc. in code listings, though.

  • No file association in konqueror on fluxbox

hi. on kde konqueror works fine but on fluxbox when i want to open some file I always heve to "Open With..." and write the app i want to use;/ also when i check "remember application association for this type of file" i doesnt' seve it ;/ any ideas??

    Hi,
this means that your files have been renamed or deleted or moved to a new folder location. It's also possible that the folder in which they were contained has been renamed or deleted. Such files are said to be missing. You need to double click on one such file thumbnail, a reconnect message will be shown Try reconnecting it manually by clicking Browse.
Also check path of one such file by doing Right click on file thumbnail >> Show Properties. Browse to that location and see if files are present in that location or not.
    Thanks

  • Konqueror archive handler

I hope you don't mind a stupid question
I've tried to change the default "embeded" zip handler in kde/konqueror to "file roller" by both right clicking on it and changing association and going into settings and disabling the embeded view and changing zip/tar/gz/rar to open fileroller. I still get the annoying kde/konqueror embeded viewer for archive files and I'm at a loss of what to do.
    help! please..
    Geoff

Well, seems to have been solved in the last 3.4 packages from tpowa

  • [SOLVED] A File Manager That Can Group Folders and Files like Fences

I want to create a custom desktop environment in Arch Linux and I'm looking for a file manager that is similar to Windows Explorer in terms of features and functionality and can group files and folders into fences like Stardock Fences does for the desktop in Windows.
If such a feature isn't available then I, at least, want to group both files and folders into individual groups based on custom parameters and not just Date or Size.
Is there any File Manager in Linux that can fulfill my requirements? If not, is there any file manager which can be extended (by scripting or programming) easily to include the features that I'm looking for?

ANOKNUSA wrote:The important thing to keep in mind here is that Windows Explorer is the foundation for the entire Windows interface. If you've ever seen the exploere.exe process die for any reason, you know what I mean. That's the reason it's able to utilize functionality like Fences. In order to get the same kind of functionality in Linux, you'd need a very similar setup. KDE + Konqueror are what come closest from my experience, since the Plasma interface actually has widgets built in that do what you want, but if you use KDE then you use KDE. Full stop. KDE is highly customizable, but only if you use its environment and parts.
Nah. I don't wanna use KDE. I've heard that it's the most resource hungry DE out there.
OK, maybe not something like fences in a file manager but I, at least, want to be able to group files AND folders (within a folder or a directory) under a single parameter and that parameter can be custom and not just pre defined like Date and Size.
Huh. I'm down to Konquerer, like you suggested, and Dolphin. Can I use either as a stand alone file manager in a custom DE in Arch without using KDE?

  • [SOLVED] Troubleshooting slow wireless [ath9k/samsung r540 laptop]

I'm working to resolve an issue I've been experiencing on my laptop. My wireless internet is unacceptably slow- here are some test results via speedtest.net-

    5. ping: 40 ms / download speed: 3.07 mbps / upload speed: 0.93 mbps
vs. this, on a four year old spare laptop running windows vista-
    [spare laptop/windows vista/firefox]
    1. ping: 17 ms / download speed: 11.41 mbps / upload speed: 0.84 mbps
    2. ping: 19 ms / download speed: 10.61 mbps / upload speed: 0.85 mbps

    5. ping: 20 ms / download speed: 10.14 mbps / upload speed: 0.85 mbps
Here is a link to my discussion of the issue on reddit.
Anyway, are there any further troubleshooting activities one would recommend? I'd be glad to work along with someone to figure this thing out!
[EDIT] It was a reception problem. Thanks for the input!

    Hey, thanks for the tip!
I tried adding the bit to modprobe.d, but no results. I believe the issue is with encryption, and this is why:
Until recently, I'd used WEP, but had to change it to WAP2 . I noticed issues shortly afterward, and just today, I fiddled around some more. Unencrypted download speed came in around 17-20 mpbs, WEP was 9-13. But, somewhat unfortunately, when I switched back to WAP2 to confirm the issue, I connected at about the same speed as the other encryptions. So it seems to be faster now, but I can't say why.
I suppose another explanation would be that changing the type of encryption reset something that needed resetting with my router.
    Any input is welcome.
    Here is this-
    # iwconfig wlan0
    wlan0 IEEE 802.11bgn ESSID:"onliner"
    Mode:Managed Frequency:2.417 GHz Access Point: C4:3D:C7:92:07:2C
    Bit Rate=135 Mb/s Tx-Power=14 dBm
    Retry long limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
    Encryption key:off
    Power Management:on
    Link Quality=70/70 Signal level=-38 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
    Tx excessive retries:24 Invalid misc:2792 Missed beacon:0
So, what about this is wrong?

kde 4 was meant to replace kde 3; I would suggest just installing kde 4 from the repos.

  • KDE Device Notifier command for specific Konqueror View Profile?

    Hi,
I added a custom action in KDE device notifier widget for optical devices to be opened with Konqueror. However, is it possible to modify that command so that Konqueror opens with a specific view profile?
    Many thanks in advance.

    Thanks a bunch!
However, one tiny problem still persists: When I execute konqueror --profile <profile_name> %f, a Konqueror window split into four opens, one showing the optical device but the other three are void. My view profile indeed splits the window into 4 sub-windows, but what I'm trying to do is basically view the optical device in one sub-window while the others show two certain websites and one samba shared folder.
I know it sounds weird, but is it at least possible?

  • Kde 4.8.2 adds konqueror and dolphin automatically

    hi,
I am using KDE 4.8.2 and I see Konqueror & Dolphin in my taskbar so I remove them by right clicking them and selecting "Remove This Launcher" from the popup menu. However, everytime I restart my machine, they come back and is very irritating. Is anyone facing same problem or knows what to configure where, please guide.

wolvieh wrote:Could it be that this is caused by "Show A Launcher When Not Running" checked?
Where would that be? I have a clean .kde4(built by kde when .kde4 is not found in user's HOME directory) and I Removed the 2 launchers on start. On next start it should not reappear right? Can you tell where is the above option?
