Thank you, first, for contributing these PKGBUILDs.  I have successfully built and installed the package for taskbar v2.  I began attempting kpager2 and had errors.  Specifically, the message was:
./PKGBUILD: line 23: syntax error near unexpected token `||'
./PKGBUILD: line 23: `|| return 1'

Steps I took before receiving the error:
1. created a directory called "kpager2"
2. created a file called "PKGBUILD" in the aforementioned kpager2 directory and it contains the text of the PKGBUILD you posted
3. in the kpager2 directory, created a file called "kpagermainwin.moc.cpp.diff" and the contents of the file are as you posted:

4. ran "makepkg"
Thanks for the help!

  • KDE/GNOME menus

    What is the usual/preferred method of getting icons in to GNOME and KDE menus? Is there a standard location? Are there any helper programs or will stuffing a .desktop file somewhere just work?

    iphitus wrote:But this isnt reccomended when distributing .desktop files, as other users may well want to see those options in their menu.
    Sure, I was simply under the impression we were speaking about a user's individual desktop environment and their desire to make user specific changes, not global or packaging alterations. When I make Slackpacks I never presume to speak for the user, and so after providing the desktop file (if needed) I let them decide whether or not to narrow its menu usage.

  • [KDE] Dolphin no showing metadata

    Hi all;
    I noticed recently that dolphin no longer shows any metadata when selecting a image or video. It used to display info like image/video size, some exif data, length etc etc.
    Anyone know what caused this functionality to be lost?
    System is kept upto date.

    Hmmm thats good to know. There also appears to be an issue that my some of my directories are softlinked. For example my downloads is actually at /mnt/disk/Downloads by I have a link to /home/username/Downloads. If i navigate to the /home I do not get metadata, but if I go to /mnt I do.  I will file in KDE bug about this lack of proper location resolution.
    Thanks for pointing me to that!

  • KDEmod 4.1 (RC1) packages

    It doesn't look like many people know of them, and since we could use some more testing before 4.1 is released, I'm posting here.
    An up-to-date-ish post here, about how to install it:
    http://www.kdemod.ath.cx/bbs/viewtopic.php?pid=4611
    In addition to the normal KDE packages, we provide some extra plasmoids and other nice packages, like Yakuake, Arxin and Shaman. We also have some KOffice 2 pre-alpha packages, if you want to try it out (thanks to boom1992 ).
    I have made PKGBUILDs for the kde-nepomuk stuff from playground (tags:/-kio-slave and the like), but because funkyou is on holiday, it isn't added to the repo's yet (the x86_64-version can be gotten from http://kdemod41.likbilen.com/ however, and everything should be kosher by monday).
    If the official repo is slow, there's a complete mirror at:
    http://kdemod.iskrembilen.com/repo/unstable/i686/
    http://kdemod.iskrembilen.com/repo/unstable/x86_64/
    Please note that these packages are still rather unstable, but they are really getting there. Stuff that's missing is the language packs and kdebindings (looking into it this weekend, together with building 4.0.84).
    (Oh, and before someone starts mentioning duplication of effort, these are split packages, like the kdemod 3.5 packages, and also, we just build the snapshots, we don't do daily rebuilds of SVN trunk. )

    Yeah, I noticed that before I installed it.  Thanks for the info, though.
    It's just that I've installed the KDEmod4 packages at least half a dozen different times on fresh Arch installs and have done some upgrades, too, but as it turns out the Kde4 packages released by tanis have always worked better on my end than any of the others I've tried.  That said, I'll probably stick with them until the official release goes into the Arch repos.
    Please don't think I'm criticizing any of the kdemod stuff, because I'm not.  It just hasn't worked out all that well for me when I've installed it.  I'm actually very glad it's available for those that want it.
    Thanks if it is you that makes it available.
    No problem at all, and thanks for the kind words
    But, if you have time and patience, it would be nice if you posted a bug about the problems in the bug tracker at http://kdemod.ath.cx/bugs/

  • Streaming from a network location in KDE?

    Whenever I try to play something (video or audio) located on a local server, my Arch Linux (using KDE) is trying to download it first and then plays it.
    How can I make it stream instead of downloading?
    When I was using Ubuntu (using Gnome) whenever I connected to a local server (using ssh) and then I try to play a video or audio, it would stream it and play.
    Is it some bug with KDE? Does anyone know?

    Sounds like your file manager can't find a default application. Are you using Dolphin? Of the top of my head I'm not sure but I guess there is a setting to choose an application for certain media types. If it can't find one then it probably downloads it locally like you said and use xdg-open to find an app.
    Just a theory. Hopefully gives you somewhere to start looking.

  • KDE: location of Kontact calendar files

    Hi,
    I'm on a fully updated Arch_X86-64/KDE 4.9.1 system.
    Using Kontact, I would like to back up my calendar file (including ToDo entries too), yet, as can be seen from the terminal out, the calendar files are NOT where I'd expect them.
    How can I find that file(s)?
    Thanks
    ----------copy of terminal-----------------
    $ pwd
    /home/miki/.kde4/share/apps/korganizer
    miki ~/.kde4/share/apps/korganizer $ ls -al
    total 308
    drwxr-xr-x 2 miki users 4096 Aug 7 04:37 .
    drwx------ 41 miki users 4096 Aug 7 04:36 ..
    -rw-r--r-- 1 miki users 145872 Aug 6 14:33 oldstd.ics
    -rw-r--r-- 1 miki users 152963 Aug 6 14:33 oldstd2.ics
    -rw-r--r-- 1 miki users 103 Aug 7 04:37 std.ics
    -rw-r--r-- 1 miki users 0 Aug 7 04:37 std.ics~

    If your calendar is in a local .ics file, right click it in the calendars list, check "properties". There you should have the file path.

  • KDE/dolphin delete files located on sshfs remotely

    Currently deleting any files mounted via fuse.sshfs makes dolphin copy the files over to my pc and save them in ~/.local/share/Trash.
    I have found this, and have checked the directories in question
    - .Trash exists with 777 + sticky bit
    - .Trash-1000 (id of both my local AND remote user) exists as well with 700 without the sticky bit
    Both folders are in the $topdir (/data remotely) as described by the specification. Copying them over to /home/myuser/mountpoint (which would be my local $topdir) does not change the behavior
    The specification says that .Trash-uid is to be created automatically in case .Trash with required attributes does not exist.
    Why is dolphin not deleting the files remotely?

    Thanks, but that's a crude workaround at best. It also does not handle trash at all - the only option is to delete the file permanently.
    I've  found this 11 years old unresolved bug here, seems to be what is causing it.  Konqueror behaves the same, so it seems it's a kio thing once again.

  • KDE Default Window Manager Setting File Location

    I recently switched KDE to use Awesome instead of Kwin via the "Default Applications" configuration dialog. Unfortunately, using the same dialog to switch back to Kwin gives me a message stating that it can't start Kwin and it immediately reverts the setting back to Awesome.
    I imagine somewhere under ~.kde4/share/config/ is a file that will allow me to select the window manager by hand, but I haven't been able to find it. Can someone point me in the right direction?

    That's what I would've expected too! It turns out it was in ksmserverrc

  • KDE Plasma 5 crashing at seemingly random times

    I've been having this problem for a while now and so far I've been unsuccessful in trying to troubleshoot it myself.  My computer will be working along fine, and then all of a sudden will freeze.  No mouse pointer movement, no keyboard input, trying to switch to a different X session fails (ctrl+alt+F2, etc.), even the numlock key will stop functioning.  This forces me to manually reset the computer each time.
    Checking the logs (journalctl --since today) shows this alarm at the time of every crash:
    Mar 04 11:32:00 mycomp.domain.local kdeinit5[848]: Created alarm 16777226
    Obviously the date/time and PID are different, but it's always kdeinit5 and alarm 16777226.
    Google has turned up nothing useful for me that I can see and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to when the crashes occur; sometimes I'm running VMs through VirtualBox and doing a million things at once and other times I'm not doing much except browsing the web and reading the news.
    I'm speculating that it might be an issue with some of the different KDE packages conflicting somehow, but I have no idea which ones it might be or if that's even remotely the case.

    The issue still persists.  I have completely wiped and re-installed everything twice now, the second time including the /home partition the second time.
    Any help, suggestions or advice would be *really* helpful.
    Here's some more info about my system if that helps:

  • Black screen after KDE update (14.12.1)

    A few errors or warning in .xsession.errors (don't know if they're relevant):
    plasma-desktop(865)/libplasma Plasma::isPluginVersionCompatible: unversioned plugin detected, may result in instability
    plasma-desktop(864): Communication problem with "plasma-desktop" , it probably crashed.
    Error message was: "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply" : " "Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)" "
    QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
    Renaming $HOME/.kde4 and deleting /var/tmp/kdecache-$USER didn't solve anything.
    I can launch applications with Alt-F2, but the screen remains black.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hello ahmedgemy
    Check out the Display section of the first article below to see if you can get the Screen to turn back on. You also may want to try restoring your iPhone using iTunes to see if that resolves the issue.

    I have Arch x86_64 on both of my laptops.  The newer one of the two can't seem to get MTP to work on my Galaxy Note III.  Both laptops run KDE and use kio-mtp.  I have looked around quite a bit and can't figure this one out.

  • Huge Number of Deps when Upgrading KDE packages from 4.14 to 14.12

    Hi,
    I know the KDE upgrade issue is "flavor of the day" at the moment and I have read other threads on it; but so far have not found info which applies to my situation.
    Note: I only use a FEW KDE apps like Krusader, Yakuake, Konsole, Kcalc and do NOT use KDE the Desktop Environment (and have no desire to do so.)  In fact, I do not use any DE's, only Openbox and i3WM as Window Managers, preferring a minimalistic approach, IOW, "less is more".
    Since a day or two (since the KDE 4.14 to 14.12 came out), I am facing the following when trying to do a full system upgrade:

    :: Proceed with installation? [Y/n]
    I have looked at almost all of the packages listed above and I currently only have a few of those installed. I can recognize the obvious ones I use (Krusader, Konsole, Gwenview and a few others) and their current deps.  When I do a pacman -Qs on each of the above packages/deps, most of them are NOT currently installed.
    Trying to keep my system light, with no unnecessary packages, I fail to see why I would need packages such as kcrash, kbookmarks, kconfigwidgets, kemoticons, knotifications, kwallet (I definitely do NOT use kwallet).
    When I look at the Net Upgrade Size of +172.52 MiB, again, I fail to see WHY I would need to load my system up with all of these packages--unless absolutely necessary.  But why would running the SAME apps as before, just upgrading them, require an extra 172+ MiB?  That does NOT seem right at all.  Granted, some of these MiB's are allocated to the other packages at end of list such as mesa, etc.; but most of the 172+ MiB's are most likely allocated to the KDE-related packages.
    1) Short-term
    I have tried to Ignore the packages in pacman.conf by adding "kde kdegraphics kdebase kdenetwork kf5 plasma-next" to the IgnoreGroup and "yakuake oxygen-icons kdebase-lib kdebase-runtime" to the IgnorePkg but that is not enough since there are some packages which do not belong to any group so I would need to hunt them down one by one, etc.  And this does not seem to be the right approach, in any event.
    2) Long-term
    I do want to upgrade the applications which I DO use, such as Krusader, Konsole, etc.; so it would seem I need to resolve this issue.
    For further info, if I change the replies on the choices pacman offers on upgrading, this is what I get (which is probably normal):
    % pacman -Syu
    :: Synchronizing package databases...
    core is up to date
    extra is up to date
    community is up to date
    multilib is up to date

    :: konsolepart4 and kdebase-konsole are in conflict. Remove kdebase-konsole? [y/N] n
    error: unresolvable package conflicts detected
    error: failed to prepare transaction (conflicting dependencies)
    :: konsolepart4 and kdebase-konsole are in conflict (kdebase-konsole<4.14.3-4)
    So, what am I missing?  Just a few brain cells, i.e. the apps I have (in their updated versions) actually DO need all of the deps listed?  (This really makes no sense to me.)
    Or is there a problem with the required dependencies?
    Thanks for any helpful feedback.

    Well, If you are correct (and you probably are), with all due respect to KDE users/developers, IMHO this just confirms the trend towards "bloat".....
    Again, I see no reason whatsoever to have to install kwallet (for example) when I'm just not using it, etc.
    This just makes me want to uninstall those apps altogether or, probably better, just stop at the versions I currently have and prevent them from upgrading, as a temporary solution.
    I might be able to switch to other smaller/lighter apps, over time--which will probably have less features, though, but can't always have your cake and eat it too, I suppose.
    What is the best way for me to prevent this upgrade of all kde-related apps from 4.14 to higher versions?
    I mentioned in my original post which groups and packages I tried adding to pacman.conf IgnoreGroup and IgnorePkg but I am obviously missing something.
    Any suggestions as to how to properly stop from upgrading?
    This is where I am right now, for pacman.conf
    IgnorePkg = netcfg cups libcups compton-conf-git caps opera yakuake oxygen-icons kdebase-lib kdebase-runtime kdebase-konsole kdegraphics-gwenview kdebase-katepart kdelibs kdepimlibs libkdcraw libkipi libkomparediff2
    IgnoreGroup = kde kdegraphics kdebase kdenetwork kf5 kf5-aids plasma-next

  • New KDE system fonts unrecognized

    Hello,
    In KDE 3.5.6 Control Center, Font Installer, if I use administrator mode to add "system-wide" fonts, the fonts are added but never recognised. I can add personal fonts (in ~/.fonts) using control center no problem, and they are picked up after I relogin.
    I wonder whether the problem is that KDE installs these fonts in /usr/local/share/fonts?? The ttf files for the fonts have been copied...
    How do I get KDE to recognise these fonts "system-wide"?
    Thanks
    Dale

    I have investigated a bit and found a solution, but its not very clean and also needs a patch for KDEbase...
    At first, apply this patch to kdebase:
    diff -u --recursive --new-file kdebase-3.5.6.orig/kcontrol/kfontinst/kio/KioFonts.cpp kdebase-3.5.6/kcontrol/kfontinst/kio/KioFonts.cpp
    --- kdebase-3.5.6.orig/kcontrol/kfontinst/kio/KioFonts.cpp 2006-05-22 20:12:36.000000000 +0200
    +++ kdebase-3.5.6/kcontrol/kfontinst/kio/KioFonts.cpp 2007-02-28 12:38:18.000000000 +0100

    + sysDir(getFontFolder(sysDefault, "/usr/share/", dirs));
    if(sysDir.isEmpty())
    It changes the dir for font installation to /usr/share/fonts...
    To make it work, you also have to issue a "sudo mkfontdir /usr/share/fonts" ... I did it after installing a font with the patched font installer. Without issuing mkfontdir after installing a font, the font was not visible in my apps...
    You must also add FontPath    "/usr/share/fonts" to your xrog.conf
    Well, it seems that the KDE font installer is badly broken (??) because there is no way to make it recognize the subfolders in /usr/share/fonts... The patch could be modified to point to /usr/share/fonts/TTF for example, but then you can only install TTF fonts with it...
    I think its always better to install prepackaged fonts with pacman or just install them to your ~/.fonts with kfontinst...
    Well, i simply have no experience with installing fonts or their defaults or whatnot, so dont blame me for that "solution", i know its cheap

  • Alunn no longer working with KDE 4.6

    I use alunn to be notified about available package updates.
    After upgrade to KDE 4.6, alunn still shows the package updates, but they can't be installed any more using alunn. The internally by alunn issued command is
    kdesu "konsole -e alunn_updatescript"
    If you have alunn installed, you can enter that in a terminal as well. You will be prompted for the root password and after having entered the correct password, you get the following error response:
    Der Befehl „ 'konsole -e alunn_updatescript'“ kann nicht ausgeführt werden. -> in English:

    Any idea? Or shall I file a bug report?

    As you said there are 3 folders with application files.
    For_4.1.0 - contains application files for RIM OS 4.1.0 and higher version number
    For_4.2.0  - contains application files for RIM OS 4.2.0 and higher version number
    For_4.6.0  - contains application files for RIM OS 4.2.0 and higher version number
    You have RIM OS 4.5 on your device, and I recommend to install application from folder For_4.2.0
    Connect your blackberry to the desktop computer
    Run Blackberry Desktop Software
    Select "Application loader" and specify folder: For_4.2.0 as a location of files to be installed

  • [SOLVED] Unable to open some programs in KDE, HFS+ partiton needs fsck

    I've had two unsettling experiences today; I'm not sure if they're related or not.
    I have a Mid-2012 MacBook Pro. I installed bluez + bluez-utils 5.13.1-1 in order to use an Apple Wireless Keyboard and Magic Trackpad. Following the instructions in the wiki for setting up bluetooth devices using bluetoothctl, I was able to connect to the keyboard without a hitch. However, when I connected the trackpad, I would be able to move the mouse for a few seconds and then the whole system would freeze and I would have to force reboot. I tried this a few a times. I couldn't find any errors in the logs or dmesg; the last entry in dmesg would always show the trackpad being connected, so it seemed like whatever happened after that wasn't being logged. I found a couple recent bug reports, one for Arch and one for Fedora, with similar issues.
    I ran pacman -Syu in case my problem was due to outdated drivers or something, but it didn't get fixed. It's possible that the problems I've having now were caused by the update and have nothing to do with the trackpad, but I don't know.

    In any case, now I can't open some programs; Skype and Okular both spend a while trying to open and then close again before anything happens. I also can't open the KDE application menu, although I can still launch programs with the quick launcher.
    Also, I have a non-journaled HFS partition that I use to store media and has been working fine, but now I can't write to it. In dmesg there's an entry from hfsplus saying "Filesystem wasn't unmounted cleanly, mounting it as read-only" and suggesting I run fsck.hfsplus, which doesn't seem to exist. I assume this message refers to my media partition. I tried doing a systemctl short health test which checked out fine, but I don't know that that really has much meaning here. I do have a backup of it if anything risky or drastic needs to be done.
    I'm generally new to Linux and not quite sure how to go about troubleshooting all this. I'd love some places to look, stuff to try, etc. Maybe I should try downgrading X server? I see some potentially weird stuff in my logs but nothing that looks like a smoking gun to me. However, I might just not know enough at this point to be able to recognize it.
    dmesg:
    There're a few firmware bugs and a segfault in konsole (see 0.047701, 0.257523, 12.077596, 27.185098).

    I did read that report initially; I ended up just removing bluez and bluez-utils since I don't care that much about using those peripherals. I imagine that if I downgraded the kernel I might be able to run bluez and get the trackpad to work. I think I'd rather keep my copy of the kernel up-to-date at this point since I don't really care that much about using that trackpad. Thanks for the suggestion, though—if I decide I really do want to use it I'll downgrade and see if that helps.
    The problems with running programs seem to have fixed themselves semi-mysteriously. That problem was persisting through reboots initially. I looked at the running processes and saw that the programs I had tried to open were actually running, but KDE wasn't behaving as such. I tried rebooting and using startx to see if I could see those programs running there, which I could. After that KDE behaved properly.
    It seems like HFS support for fsck is poorly if at all supported outside of Mac OS, so I booted into Mac OS and ran fsck_hfs on my media partition. This worked, and I can read and write from it again.
    EDIT: In case anyone is curious, there seems to be a fix pending for the trackpad issues—see here and here.
