Kde menu lost

I guess with last upgrade i lost every single kde-menu entry. Y use xfce and have minimal kde pkgs installed, so i just noticed it because there where no k3b and amarok in my xfce menu.
I removed kde from my system (also every config file i found) and reinstalled it, both extra and testing to check if there where something wrong with testing packages.
Running kde it shows no apps in menu, just control panel, execute and log out. Trying to run control panel does nothing.
I'm able to run every app from console.
I don't know what else can i do, i would really appreciate some help...

I ran it different ways, as root and as user, with and without options (--noncremental, --global, --nocheckfiles, --menutest) and always got almost the same errors:

Apps failing to show up in KDE menu

I just installed BZFlag and Cube, and there's no "Games" entry in the KDE menu, even after I restarted KDE. What's screwing up? Is this the same thing that happens with Gnome menus under Xorg 7?

Yes I've noticed the same thing in Xfce, it seems that new xorg messes up the XDG_DATA_DIRS variable, it excludes /usr/share
so just add some thing like this to a executable script in /etc/profile.d
XDG_DATA_DIRS=$XDG_DATA_DIRS:/usr/share
export XDG_DATA_DIRS
#I'm not sure if this is needed as well
XDG_CONFIG_DIRS=$XDG_CONFIG_DIRS:/etc/xdg
export XDG_CONFIG_DIRS

[SOLVED] no openoffice icons in kde menu

Hi
I installed openoffice 3.1.1-2 and there are no icons in KDE menu. To launch OOo I have to run:
/usr/lib/openoffice/program/[swriter]

Emesene no kde menu entry anymore?

Didn't see any posts that looked relevent in the past few days. Since my last update, emesene has gone missing from my kde menu. It is still installed, and still works, but the nice convenient launcher in the menu has gone AWOL. Anyone else notice this? I tried doing a pacman -Rus emesene to remove everything and then reinstalling, but still gone.
I'd prefer not to create the launcher myself as in the past when I've manually created Kmenu entries it always ends up throwing the whole menu out of whack.
Obviously, not a GIANT issue, but would be convenient to be able to fix it.

Audacity and KDE menu (REPOST of 2/20)

Please help me find the icon for Audacity to use in editing kde menu. It appears in the panel when the program loads.

pacman -Ql audacity
there is no icon included in the package. Use one of the generic kde icons in /opt/kde/share/icons/

How to Add Applications to KDE Menu

Hi All,
I'm running KDE 4.2 and I have installed Wine and Scribus. Wine doesn't show up in any of the menu's and Scribus appears in Lost & Found. How do I add entries to the menu in KDE4?

@ NoOneImportant - I did run that first, but it only found a few KDE odds and ends, it did however find Firefox, which is strange as after I installed it and logged out and back in again, was added to the Internet sub-menu, so why menu updating tool find this

Acer d250 sleep | How can I use s2ram in kde menu?

My first post ; )
I am running kdemod on my acer aspire one d250-1165, I am having an issue with stock kde suspend-to-ram, after resuming from a suspend-to-ram the system comes back aparently normal, everything seems to be working, but the screen flickers once in a while, and will eventually freeze the screen.
s2ram works fine with -f -a 1 parameters, but I can not figure out how to integrate this in kde, I do not know which method kde uses to suspend, Is there a way to make it set the acpi_sleep parameter?
I need some pointers to figure this out. Thanks for your atention.

I have the following line in my .xinitrc:
/usr/bin/xmodmap -e "keycode 133 = F30" &
...where keycode 133 is my win key. I assign it to F30 (it can be any number besides 1-12, I guess), and then it's just a matter of configuring escape key (in your case, it'll be kde start menu) to F30.

Cannot change KDE menu entries

Hi all!
I installed Enemy Territory and I wanted to edit the menu entry in KDE.
I command from et to et2, an edited version of et.
When I save the menu and look back I see the entry has not changed.
How can I get KDE to remember my changes?
I use KDE 3.3.2 and Arch 0.7

If you see a quite long path with a number of colons, that is the problem. This happened to me on both the current KDE, 3.2 and 3.1. I don't know the reason WHY it happens, but deleting the path fixed my problems with the menu.

KDE Menu Editor will not save.

Menu changes could not be saved because of the following problem:
Could not write to /home/soylent/.config/menus/applications-kmenuedit.menu
The file doesn't exist, and creating it does not solve the problem, so it seems to me that KDE is looking to save the wrong file for some reason, because for programs that have scripts for entering into the menu, they have no problem doing this. So, how do I make KDE point to the correct menu file? What is the correct menu file?

I wasn't able to run it as root either, so I put in:
xhost +localhost
ls -l
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 121
and it run as root. I don't know what 'xhost +localhost' does. Ha, ha, dumb to issue a command and not know what it does.
I assume the whole problem was there NO permissions for it. Now I need to know what permissions it needs/best way to set them.

Kde menu weird focus behavior

I've just installed Archlinux with Xorg 6.8 and kde.
When I click on the K menu , the focus keep going to the first entry in the menu. I am unable to focus other items.
Did anybody ever experienced that kind of thing?

And if i set the toolBar to be invisible it works just fine, so the toolbar seems to be stealing the focus somehow...
toolbar.setFocusable(false) has no effect though....

Kde menu

Huh... after todays kde upgrade my menu (that shows when I click on "k" menu) dissaperd. Also konsole from "taskbar" <?> dissapear...

I can confirm this, but actually the problem occured after upgrading to qt-3.3.3, I don't know if this helps any, but it's what I noticed, I was running KDE already.
After that I uninstalled KDE, deleted all kde related and qt related stuff from my home dir reinstalled again, and my menu is just empty.

[SOLVED]Gnome desktop and KDE menu suddenly gone

I run Arch on a second machine with both KDEmod and Gnome installed. When logging in today Gnome desktop was gone (wallpaper, icons, etc), but the panels were still there. All applications seem to function normally. Switching to Kdemod brought the following result: Desktop and icons are still visible, panels too, just all menu entries and the Konqueror and home icon in the panel are gone. I can still call up applications from the cli.
The "kmenuedit" command gives me the following error: "... could not read from /home/raisuli/menu/applications-kmeduedit.menu" which is not surprising because the file doesn't exist (anymore?).
Should I just reinstall Gnome and KDEmod or could there be another way?

hmm, i'm not sure what could have happened
maybe you can get them back if you re-install gnome-menus, archlinux-menus ,, i don't think kde comes with any as a pkg.
you might also be missing /usr/share/applications, most of the entries also come from desktop files in that directory

Root Menu lost?

Today, when I wanted toi use my ATV, the root menu, which usually shows a whole bunch of icons (youTube, NetFlix, Trailers, etc, etc), now only shows Computers (the green icon), and Settings (the cogs icon). That's all. How do I get it back to where it was before?

Unpower it and restart it - it's probably lost the internet connection.
You can do a soft restart by holding menu and down arrow on remote for 6 secs.

Hey All,
I'm trying to determine how to do something and haven't been able to 'yet'.. ;-)
I want to get rid of my KMenu button and have access to the Menus instead from a right-click anywhere on my desktop. Is that possible in KDE?

AFAIK it can be done with kcontrol... Currently sitting in front of winxp.
