KDE: mouse sometimes freezes on audio playback

Just installed KDE, and I've noticed that the mouse will sometimes freeze briefly when ARTS starts up. I haven't had to exit X thus far, but the freezups are very vexxing. Has anyone else observed this?

Ah, cool! I have it set to "No Audio Output" because I don't like bells and whistles interrupting music when I'm playing it (all the time)
Xine is a fantastic piece of software, in addition to the fact that in amaroK it has been tweaked to give the best spectrum analyser responsiveness and the fact that it plays anything you throw at it, it is also really quick to start up and really stable, unlike that piece of crap they call MPlayer, which explodes into pieces if you so much as look at it.
I am really looking forward to setting it to my multimedia backend in KDE4, so all things KDE will radiate its greatness when multimedia is on the cards. Death to ARTS!

  • ITunes 11.1.3 issues - freezing during audio playback.

Like many other folks on here, I'm having some playback issues with iTunes 11.1.3.
Macbook (couple years old) 2.4 mhz 2 core- 4 gigs ram
We use this computer primarily for music playback for dance classes and performances. Have run dozens of shows over the last year or so with zero issues.
There *might* be a better playback software option, but iTunes doesn't get in the way with too many options, has (up until now) been rock solid, and has never let us down, and is less prone to user error causing huge WHOOPS during something important.
That is, until 11.1.3. Didn't really notice any issues at first, but wife came home from a dress rehearsal Wednesday evening and complained - "it froze a couple of times while playing back Act 1. What's wrong with my computer?". (Act 1 - approx 50 minutes of music - 40ish total cuts).
I looked at it - she had a ton of other stuff running - mail - wifi - DVDPlayer - iPhoto - you name it. I figured that was the problem, shut all the other stuff off, and figured it was solved.
Nope - I'm running audio during our final tech rehearsal this evening before performances start in the morning.
35 or 40 minutes in - froze again during a track.
It just stopped - buttons became unresponsive - beachball came up - we waited a minute - and then it freaked out while trying to catch up with anything I had pressed, skipped around a bit, then resumed acting normal again.
Took a short break - checked nothing else was running that didn't need to be and made some adjustments:
    Wifi off
    Cloud off
Check downloads, sync, podcasts ... all off.
Reset all warnings. Reset cache ( which took a surprising amount of time)
    Match and Genius, off
Opened Acitvity Monitor and stopped any processes that were not essential
    Reboot ....
Another 30 or 40 minutes later - froze again.
Luckily, the lighting guy had a PC laptop with him. I quickly authorized his computer, transferred everything, and the rest of the evening went without a glitch.
Not sure what to do next. I'm pretty sure it's NOT the computer.
Disk checks OK. All hardware test are OK.
    Couple of observations:
    1. If I repair permissions - it finds a TON of messed up (?) iTunes permissions and fixes them. One day later, it find just as many again. What's up with that?
    2. If I watch disk access in the Actiity monitor during playback - on occassion there's a WRITE spike. Odd. What's it writing? This is with NOTHING ELSE running but iTunes, which didn't glitch during the spike, but still, what's that? A contributing factor? A clue?
    3. CPU and memory use looked OK. Haven't managed to get it to glitch again while I'm actually watching this though.
Between what I've tried, and what I've read here, I'm pretty convinced our Macbook isn't at fault here. I'm pretty sure there's a problem with 11.1.3
If anybody has other observations or suggestions, I'l love to hear them.

    Are these recent releases?
I had troubles right after iTunes 10 came out because Digital copies were misreading "10" as "1" since the version check script was only looking for a single digit version number. Newer releases shouldn't have this, but if it's more than two years old, it might do this.

  • After installing 10.8.4 the mouse sometimes freezes

After installing 10.8.4 my cursor often freezes.

Did you do a fresh install or did you upgrade to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard or Lion?
If the former, then reinstall Mountain Lion:
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
    If the latter then:
    Give this a try:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
After this is completed download and install 10.8.4 Mountain Lion Update v10.8.4 (Combo).

  • KDE mouse freeze

When it  happens, only keyboard can be used, sometimes left mouse key can be used ,while middle and right mouse button doesn't work and the cursor moving normally. I have to kill xorg to make it normal. I tried only restarting kwin and it didn't work. I notice it start to happen when I was using chromium and suddenly right/middle mouse  button stops responding and later left click stops responding too, while the cursor moves as usual. Any one experiencing same problem?
Edit1:It happend again just now and I find I can reproduce it every time I click mouse right button very quickly in Chromium. After that when I scroll mouse middle button chromium switches tab as if the cursor is always on the tab bar when it is not.

If you enable the magic sysrq key in /etc/sysctl.conf, Alt+SysRq+K might do the trick too.  Also see if you can get to another VT by Ctrl+Alt+F1.
As for the freezing problem, check your logs (/var/log/Xorg.0.log[.old], dmesg) to see if anything significant happens near a freeze.
What graphics driver are you using?  I had similar problems with the proprietary nVidia drivers for a long time; switching to Nouveau fixed that.

  • Mouse pointer freezes sometimes

Whenever I unplug my iPod (shuffle) from the keyboard (of course after having the volume unmounted), some seconds later the mouse pointer freezes and the computer is totally unresponsive for some seconds. Then everything is normal again, i.e. the mouse pointer can be moved again.
The "system.log" tells something about communication problems with the USB and bus reset or similar.
Is this meant with "hot pluggable"? Should not the iPod be independent from the keyboard or mouse?

    As far as I remember:
    - It does not happen when directly connected to the computer
    - It has never happened with the G3, only with the G5
And, yes, the iPod's firmware is the latest one.
And: Connecting the iPod to the keyboard is just more convenient, even if it's slower. As the MacOS does multitasking, I do not mind if a data transfer runs with two megabytes per second or with one, because I can do something else in the meantime.

  • The Audio playback device HDA Intel (ALC268 Analog) doesn't work.

Every time I login to KDE through KDM, the notification gives me this message: "The Audio playback device HDA Intel (ALC268 Analog) doesn't work. Falling back to default"
Everytime I try to play an audio file, the notification gives me the same message.
But everything else such as system sound, online video work.
What can I do to make it work?
    thank you for your help

I have the same problem under the same conditions the original poster described. However, under System Settings -> Multimedia -> Device Preference I don't have default as device listed. The devices I can pick are:
    -Esound (ESD)
    -HDA Intel (STAC92xx Analog)
-HDA Intel, NVIDIA HDMI (HDMI Audio Output)
    -Jack Audio COnnection Kit.
I can also pick HDA Intel (NVIDIA HDMI) when I check  'Show advanced devices'
When I use Esound I have sound for a while, until after a random time it falls back to the underlying device, which makes sound disappear. When I use HDA Intel (STAC92xx Analog), it falls back immediately on logging in and the other choices do never fall back, but when I use them, I have no sound at all. After I loose sound when Esound falls back to another device, sometimes writing sudo /etc/rc.d/alsa restart gives sound back, but mostly I need to relog/restart the X-Server to get sound back.
Is my issue related to the original poster his problem? And how can I fix it?

  • Linux 3.13 - Kernel and Razer Mouse (Hard Freeze)

I upgraded to the new kernel 3.13.4-1 the other day and everytime I'd try to log into Xwindows the system from GDM, it would hard freeze.  So I went about problem solving and couldn't find what was going on.  I then upgraded to the 3.13.5-1 kernel thinking that might fix it.  It did not.  So I went rooting around for a couple hours.  Then I realized that it only occured when I went to touch my mouse.  So I switched to my Wacom tablet to see if I was right. And yep, it worked perfectly with the tablet.  No Freezes.
So for anyone else having problems with the XWindows freezing constantly try switching to another pointer device (unlikely I know).  Or you can do what I did and downgrade the kernel from 3.13 to the last 3.12 version which involves downgrading the headers, nvidia driver, and nvidia-utils if you have them.  I am using the same mouse in 3.12 with no problems.
I couldn't find a bug report anywhere about it and I don't know what actually causes the mouse to freeze the system while the tablet doesn't.
By the way I use the Nvidia Proprietary driver for XWindows so that might be causing it too since it had to be downgraded... not sure...  I can't get any logs from the hard freezez at all.
The 3.13 kernel also randomly decides to lose sync with my main harddrive and then go in a kernel panic on boot sometimes.  Clearly it has a few bugs to work out.  I'm gonna stick with 3.12 for a while.

I just experienced a similar problem after upgrading to 3.13. At first I thought this was an Intel driver bug (I'm using Bumblebee with Intel + NVIDIA drivers), but nothing showed up in the logs, and it did seem to happen when moving the mouse. I'll try downgrading as well.

  • Mouse pad Freezes

I bought the HP probook G1 450 less than a year ago, and i have a problem with the mouse pad , as it sometimes freeze (only moving really slowly but in one line , doesn't go up or down).
i read online some ppl have had the same issue with windows 8.1 (after the update), and the solution is to connect an external mouse , remove the device installation and re-install so you get the last update (as its un-detectable when its the same version but with a slight difference ),i did all the steps correctly and 80% of the time its working perfectly , but then what i explained before happens, and i need to put it to sleep or just hibernate to get back up running ,Of course when am using external mouse, its working perfectly  ....

Hi AJ 1) Have you tried to uninstalling the Driver from device manager.2) Update the Latest Bios from HP website.3) Have you tried performing the system restore to the date where unit was working fine.

  • Freezing within DVD playback

Having searched many forums for a solution to freezing on DVD playback (particularly with DVD players older than about 4 years) without success, I have isolated the issue to layer separation in Encore when building.
The solution I have discovered to get around this is
    1. Create your video in Premiere Pro as normal.
    2. Export to hard drive using Adobe Media Encoder and set Multiplex to DVD, Bitrate encoding to CBR for better final quality.
    3. Import into Encore and create menus etc normally.
    4. Build as a DVD Image to your hard drive with the following settings, irrespective of your file size, set size to 4.7GB, this turns off the Layer break options. Then set size to "Custom"  then set custom size to slightly larger than you file. Make sure "side" is set to 1.
    5. Press "Build". This will build an *.iso file to your hard drive without a layer break being inserted.
    6. Import this file into DVD Shrink and shrink back to your hard drive as an *.iso file to fit a single layer DVD.
    7. Double click this file to automatically open and burn a DVD using Nero. Make sure burn speed is 4x or less.
    Good luck

    Bill,
    Thanks for posting your solutions.
I've found that three factors affect DVD playback most, and in this order:
1.) choice of media - Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden are highly recommended. Falcon gets good reviews, but is/was only available in US. Have never used it.
2.) burn speed - slower is always better (as you point out). Luckily, Encore allows one to choose a slow burn speed, based on one's selection of media and also the capabilities of the burner. I always buy the slowest media, that Verbatim, or TY offer at the time. I want SLOW.
3.) keeping the bit-rate at about 7MB/s. This one gets debated a bit, and many have never had an issue at 8MB/s - YMMV
Now, my workflow is a tad different, as I always Export from PrPro as a DV-AVI Type II elemental stream (Video-only, no multiplexing obviously) and AC3 DD 5.1 SS Audio-only (or PCM/WAV 48KHz 16-bit, if I'm not doing 5.1 SS with the SurCode encoder). The DV-AVI is Imported into Encore as a Timeline, and the AC3 (or WAV) is Imported as an Asset. The Audio is dragged to the respective Timeline.
Unless I have some real need for bit-budgeting, I let Encore Transcode on Automatic. Even if one uses the above Assets and requires bit-budgeting, you can still set up the Transcoding manually, or can Export from PrPro as an MPEG-2 with the necessary settings. I strongly recommend not using any muxed files as Assets in Encore. Some will work, but many just flat fail.
So far, my method has yielded several hundred Projects with almost 2000 DVD's Burned. Not one has ever come back. Now, each Project gets checked with a DVD RW "test," and then the first DVD -R, or +R gets run through 5 different machines, plus the computer, before delivery, but still no returns, and some of my clients have some pretty old gear. For my testing, I use several brands of players and the models range from a pure esoteric down to a re-branded discount store cheapie. If it plays on all of these, I ship it out the door.
Appreciate the posting of your workflow,
    Hunt

  • Premiere cc 14 video is freezing but audio plays?  Mac

I am in OS 10.9.3  3.5ghz intel for i7 iMac  32 gb memory, and timeline playback works for a while and then freezes, but audio continues to play.  This is really slowing down the edit.  Help Please? !

If Safari is the only browser you are having problems with dealing with QT see if the following is of any help:
To fix a QT related problem w/Safari, quit Safari & look in the /Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder (this is the Library folder at the root level of your HD, not the one inside your Users/user name folder).
Try removing the VLC Plugin.plugin (if you have it) & QT Plugin.plugin files from this folder, & then relaunch Safari. If the problem isn’t fixed, a different plug-in may be to blame. Keep removing files from this folder (start with any third-party plug-ins that are present) until the problem disappears.
Replace the plug-ins that don’t cause any problems.

Working on the latest version of Premiere CC version 7.2.1 and MAC OS X 10.9.1. I am experiencing a really loud disturbing buzzing/cutout sound in playback. If the problem is limited to  audio transitions, then you're probably hitting a bug that was introduced in 7.2: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5945929#5945929. A fix went into 7.2.1. For projects that you worked on in 7.2, I believe you need to clear the cache and, possibly, the preview render files.
Several users have reported that the fix in 7.2.1 did not resolve the issue in all cases.

    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5949129#5949129
I don't know what the status is on any bugs that remain in this vein. If all else fails, your best bet may be to revert to 7.1. Unfortunately, that's not as simple as it could be. See the instructions here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5823746#5823746

  • Bugged audio playback? When I start working with more than 1 audio track.

    Hi!
I have been using premiere elements 12 for editing FullHD videos.
Brand new for me just bought it like 2 weeks ago.
Now during the last couple weeks I have had this MAJOR proglem with editing the audio.
This problem is headache and turns my simple editing into almost impossibilites.
I have had this problem with all my projects. _ALL_
Usually the problem seems to appear when I want to start working with several audio tracks.
At somepoint my projects just get ruined, I simply cannot hear the audio tracks.
The audio starts to disapear randomly from all the audio tracks.
It is not only playback problem. When I exported the video, the audio was partly missing, same as the project.
I have tried to look help on forums and search all what I could find, but havent been able to solve this.
    Small fix has slightly helped:
I export audio to single track and bring it back to project. This works but I still usually have more editing to do.
I simply cannot understand why the playback disapears, I fear it is a bug.
I found lot of earlier version problems on people with similar type of problems, but no help for this version of program.
To solve the matter I have changed my audio setting in PE12.
Tried Premiere Elements WDM Sound and ASIO4ALL V2, but same problem on both.
I have looked up that my audio playback device and PE12 matches, and are not muted, and volumes maxed.
I have deleted my C:\ appdata\roaming\adobe  premiere elements & premiere elements 12 folder preferences.. not helping..
I press the update pretty much everyday hoping for new version.. But yes, program keeps telling me its the latest.
I usually only work with 3 audio track maxinum. And I am doing really the most basic stuff here..
I have set all my audios to foreground and it has given me best results, but it does not seem to take the problem away as at somepoint randomly my audio playback is missing again, randomly across the playback.
Please anyone? I am feeling hopeless here.

    Frame size: 1920 x1080
    ..and same audio settings
Do the problems persist if you start a new project? Do you find the audio problems develop when the Timeline content is fairly well developed or can the problems occur when there a minimal amount of content of those tracks? Let us look at the size and duration of this project.
Yes, I have had this problem with all my projects. Sometimes it goes away tho, just enough for me to work bit more. My work progress usually starts by clipping the video material, like 1h material to 8minutes in clips. After that I want to work with audio tracks, and here problems start! When I start working with more than 1 track, so the problem is at later stage. To fix the problem a small fix I have used, I export audio like music and effects tracks together to 1 wav and bring it back. After that, I start working with narrate track. To describe the problem with audio:
Audio Randomly starts to disapear when I playback, and can also be gone if I export the video out.
My source videos total size are usually within 80Gb max limit and audio edit material 300mb total.
In my last project my biggest source video was 47GB and leingth of 1h 4m, in addition to that I had 3 smaller videos, sizes of 1GB, 1,54GB and 300MB.
Is there any evidence that you are accidentially moving the audio track rubberband to alter the audio volume. That rubberband is the orange line that runs horizontally through the middle of the audio clip when you are looking at the wave form display style of that audio track. The rubberband represents audio volume.
No, audio volumes might have been adjusted in my tracks but they are present. The problem is usually like ~2-5seconds, a random audio track can be heard (like music or narrate) or just no sounds at all. This makes it very difficult to work with the audio. Also I gotta say that this problem starts by simply having the 2-3 audio tracks.. In my recent project the only adjustment I used to edit the audio was fade in/out.
I don't have any other audio problems with any other programs.
I am more than happy to provide more information if needed. I hope this information helps.
In addition I can say that when I close Adobe Premiere Elements 12, it crashes. No idea why.
I have also looked up my firewall settings, anything involved adobe and premiere..
In addition some effects like HD text templates make "Adobe Media Core CS6" crash. I tend to just not use em, or if I need em, I add em at end of the edits.
I hope this helps, I would really like to solve this problem.
Thank you alot for taking the time to answer! I welcome anyone to help mee too! Please giev links to similar problems too. Thank you everybody!

  • Mouse/program freezes in Mac OSX Mavericks

I recently updated my 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 iMac to Mac OSX Mavericks (8GB RAM).
I'm using an Apple wireless bluetooth mouse and keyboard.
I'm now getting frequent freezes. The cursor can be moved but I am unable to write or click on any window. Only way to resolve this issue is a hard reboot.
Additionally, programs (Safari, Microsoft Office) sometimes freeze/stall with the spinning beach ball.
Overall the system is much more sluggish.
    Any suggestions ?
I'm wondering if these problems are related to syncing services,  e.g., Adobe Updater (really annoying when it interrupts/blocks workflow daily with another update check) or iCloud and Dropbox (check mark indicates up to date) -  although superficially I don't see them active at the time of the freeze.

    Hi farpelix,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your Mac is unresponsive and you think it may be related to software you've installed, try testing by booting into safe mode and creating a test user:

If your system is responsive is responsive safe mode, this usually means OS X is fine, and the issue is caused by conflicting software in your user account.
Next, see if it behaves normally in a new user account. The steps in this article also apply to creating a new user in Mavericks:

  • Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi Elite Pro Audio Playback Prob

I just installed X-Fi Elite on my Vostro 400 Mini with Intel G33 chipset and sometimes my audio playback sound like a chipmunk. I have to change the mode between game and entertainment to fix the problem. I've disabled the onboard audio before installing.
Is there any known incompatibility between the motherboard and x-fi? I reinstalled the software and the card, but none of them works.

Dell Vostro G33 MoBo (don't know what brand it is)

    HIPER Type R-MKII 680 Watts

On the tray,. lower right, DOUBLE-click the speaker. Up pops "Play Control" panel. Options menu, Properties. With the Playback radio button, acti've, check-on every entry that looks interesting, including .. mic2, and adjust accordingly (way on the right of the panel). Change the radio button "Recording" to acti've. Check-on every interesting controls. Click OK. The panel label changed to "Recording control". Check-on the .. mic2 box. You can usually only have one thing checked-on in the recording panel. The checked-on control is your input source. You're welcome. This text has not be verifed to be free of virus, or even bacteria.
