KDE panels in Chrome/Chromium "covers" YouTube controls in fullscreen

I have a wierd problem. If I start KDE and open a fullscreen YouTube video in Google Chrome or Chromium, the controls not working. I figured out that this is caused by the panels, if I remove a panel for example from the top, I can use the controls on the top of fullscreen YouTube player, and also if I remove the bottom panel, I can use the bottom controls of fullscreen YouTube player. But I don't want to use vertical panels, I use Chromium and I watch several YouTube videos, so I don't know what to do. The panels are just cover the YouTube controls, even if they're set to auto-hide, which makes no sense. And this problem occures only in Chrome and in Chromium, it makes no sense either. Is this a bug of Plasma Desktop or of Chrome/Chromium?
Any ideas?

Nobody? If it makes this more clear, that one could say that the image gets pixelated.

Hello all
I am new to arch, just installed last week. I installed KDE and have been using konqueror, but wish to use a chrome/firefox derivative. I've installed chrome, chromium. and firefox, but none will start up. When I start the application via the gui it shows up in the task bar, however it does not load, and exits after about 20 seconds.
I apologize for being a noob, I searched this problem on the wiki, google, and forums, but couldn't find anything.

Not doing -Syu leaves you with a broken system.
Using --force on a general -Syu also leaves you with a broken system.
'The mtab conflict' and other such issues are almost always discussed here on the forums, simply running your whole -Syu with --force isn't the best way of dealing with them.

Trouble with Update Panel in Chrome browser

I work with update panel.

In IE all working fine. In Chrome and Firefox after ~30 seconds if i tried to clicked any button the postback is done and page will reset.

Can't use youtube controls / windows controls (Close, Minimize,etc)

I cant use youtube controls, example play, volume, seek, etc (also with some other flash objects, not all)
I Can't use the windows buttons on the top right hand side, example close, maximize, minimize,etc
sometime I can't use non flash sections in some sites (facebook)
I have already tried:
run without add-ons - No help
reinitialize Firefox - Helped until i restarted firefox (still without add-ons)
No other programs on my computer has similar problems

To troubleshoot issues that don't occur in [[Safe Mode|Firefox Safe Mode]] see the [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]] article. Start with turning off hardware acceleration in the Firefox [[Options window - Advanced panel|Options window - Advanced panel]] (General tab) and then restart Firefox.
You also have two versions of Flash installed:
*Shockwave Flash 12.0 r0
*Shockwave Flash 11.7 r700
To remove the older plugin, find the path to the NPSWF32_11_7_700_xxx.dll file in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:plugins about:plugins] and delete the file (or rename it by adding an X in front of the filename. [SOLVED] Google chrome/chromium freezing when typing in address bar

Hello again everyone, sorry to bother you.
Im using Arch 64 bit + kde.
Recently my chromium began freezing at random when I begin typing in the address bar. Since it persisted after several updates I installed google chrome beta from AUR, and the problem persists there. I've tried deleting the configuration directory to no avail.
I am a web developer and therefore this is kind of extremely annoying, I need more browsers than just Firefox so I thought about asking your help, are there any of you with a 64 bit arch system in which chrome works flawlessly? Did you do anything special?

yes, my card is nvidia 8600GT.
This morning I spent a few experiments.
1. I noticed that if you run full-screen application (game), then when you try to switch to the console - is a black screen without text, a problem arises as in KDE and in xfce, if you switch to the console without running full screen applications, the when switching to the console you can see the shell prompt to login (enter your login and password), both in KDE and in xfce.
I tried to remove the option "VGA = 773" from the boot parameter has the kernel (GRUB), and the problem with switching to the console was gone.
2. I made a nvidia-xconfig, creating a file /etc/x11/xorg.conf, rebooted (with the VGA = 773), and logged in to KDE user denis (yes my name is Denis too ), the name of my new account, the name of the old - user0), and the Problem with switching to the console was gone, at least for now.
I think that the Problem with chromium somehow connected with the fact that the video card is Nvidia and its mode of operation, which hurt when you log in to your account.
How does chromium in KDE in your account until Dennis, I have not tested that particular - will be tested, the result accomplish your goal.
So try to remowe vga=773 from kernel line, and and see how it will work chromium.
But i still dont know, why chromium work fine in xfce, but freezing in KDE...

[SOLVED] KDE Panel - Application Launcher Icon Size

With the standard KDE panel, when I add an application launcher widget (it doesn't matter which one) the icon size of the launcher is too small. Increasing the size of the panel makes the icon get bigger to a point, but then it shrinks again. Is there a config file that I can override the icon size? I don't see one in ~/.kde4/share/config, is that the right place to look?

That was it! The "Panel" setting only changed the launcher icon. I guess I assumed that it would change all of the icon sizes, but so far it looks good. Thanks!

KDE panel not showing apps [Solved]

Hey there
I just installed Arch Linux on my box and then KDE. But I encountered a small problem. The applications I run doesn't show in the KDE Panel. I have to alt+tab to switch between the windows instead of just clicking on the appropriate icon in the panel.

Chrome crashes at Youtube videos after Intel HD Graphics Driver 10.18.14.4206 update on Lenovo X1 Carbon 3rd.gen. Since the driver update yesterday, laptop starts suddenly to overheat enormously and become super-noisy as soon as I try to open a Youtube video , no matter on Youtube page, or a external provider with embded youtube video. Chrome becomes unresponsible and has to be terminated. Laptop continues to use fan at extreme level for abot 20 more seconds and then cools down. IE plays youtube videos without problem and all the other videos from Facebook i.e. are playing. Tried original and also Beta version of Chrome, which doesn't help.

Hey guys, T450s user here. I think I found an even better workaround for this issue without having to disable hardware acceleration and lower the performance of Chrome as a whole. After long trial and error I found the that driver-related issue is generally narrowed-down to HTML5 acceleration for video playback. By installing the following Chrome Extension I was able to revert YouTube back to the old Flash-based YouTube player and now even 4K playback is absolutely stellar on my T450s running the latest .4222 driver directly from Intel's site! https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24964/Intel-Iris-Iris-Pro-and-HD-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-8-1-64-bit This is of course by no means a fix of any kind but I think it is the best workaround that we have to this date without having to sacrifice performance in Chrome as a whole. Recovering KDE panel that got accidentally removed

Basically, I removed my main KDE panel mistakenly and am wondering if there is an easy way to recover it?

Just in case someone stumbles across this post with the same problem in future:
I don't know if there's a way to get your (probably) customized panel back the way it was, but you can get the default panel back and customize it again:
Right click somewhere on the Desktop
choose Add Panel -> Default Panel

YouTube freezes on fullscreen

I don't know why this started happening, but since yesterday when I put a YouTube video in fullscreen in runs fine, then when it's switching to HD it freezes on the image and the sentence it gets stuck on repeats over and over. If I move the mouse and put it into normal window, it resumes playing. I already tried the "disable hardware acceleration" and clearing the cookies from Firefox, but still happens. Last weekend it was working perfectly fine, even when going into automatic HD on fullscreen. I recently updated my Nvidia drivers to 332.21, and I thought it was because of that. But when I reverted them back to the drivers I had from March, 314.22, it still happens. Maybe it's something with my Nvidia control panel? Also, I just installed an update on my Windows 7, called Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 for Windows 7 x64 Systems. Could this have affected it? Thanks in advance!
EDIT: Just watched a YouTube video from an external site and put it on fullscreen, and it didn't freeze or anything. The site was TheHobbit.com and I watched one of the trailers that plays from YouTube and no problem. So why does this happen on YouTube then?

[SOLVED] chrome / chromium high gpu usage leads to overheating laptop

My laptop overheated a few times recently due to high gpu temperature. Tried different drivers (nouveau and nvidia) and kernel and that didn't help. So, today when it started heating up I went through the options in chrome:/flags in chromium to disable all gpu accelerated options I could find (hardware acceleration was already disabled). Then I noticed in the task manager that the gpu process was still there (also it was still getting hot). So, I went through all the switches for chromium and started it like this:
chromium --diable-gpu --disable-accelerated-2d-canvas --disable-accelerated-jpeg-decoding --disable-accelerated-video-decode --disable-gpu-compositing --disable-gpu-program-cache --disable-gpu-rasterization --disable-gpu-shader-disk-cache --disable-gpu-vsync --disable-one-copy --disable-threaded-compositing --disable-threaded-animation
and now the cpu heats up a little but that is throttled through thermald so no big deal there. No gpu process anymore in the built in task manager for chromium.
Has anyone else experienced this issue or have any different ideas? Is there a way to throttle gpu based on temperature for nvidia cards? I have some new thermal paste coming and got some compressed air to clean out my machine and then reapply the paste (probably needed to be done anyways). Just curious if anyone else had any alternate thoughts or if maybe it was just a couple things I could disable in chromium instead of everything. I noticed it heats up a lot when viewing long pages with lots of images especially.
Edit: The card is a Nvidia GTX560M. I just tried nouveau and messing around with some variables for temperature threshold in /sys/ but it didn't seem to help (I don't think my gpu fan is that compatible anyways).
Update: The only option needed to get rid of GPU Process tab is "--disable-gpu-compositing"

I do not entirely understand your post. I have looked into throttling gpu. I think in order to underclock and manipulate these settings coolbits needs to be set to 8 is what I am reading. Will post back when I find out more.
Edit: Enabled coolbits and tried changing clock speed but when I hit enter screen just blacked out. Guess I'll just leave gpu off for chromium.
Edit: Cleaned out computer and replaced thermal paste and no more heat issues.

If you're trying to add photos to photo stream on your PC, you drag them to your photo stream uploads folder (normally My Pictures\Photo Stream\Uploads).

Configure KDE panels to stay on secondary screen.

I got a tiny problem with KDE. To be more specific: The panels won't stay put.
Here is my simple setup:
I got two monitors connected to a Radeon GPU (Using proprietary driver aur/catalyst-total version 13.4). Configured with help of ATI configuration tool. See attached Xorg config below for details.
To this, I got two panels and a few widgets/plasmoids for each screen. They're both at the bottom of the screen. Auto hiding is turned on.
The problem:
Whenever the secondary monitor is deactivated, or when I run a fullscreen application, the panels and widgets/plasmoids on the screen that deactivates will move over to the active screen. That is okay. They're supposed to do that.
Once the screen reactivates, or when the fullscreen application quits, the panels and widgets/plasmoids in question won't move back again.
I have to unlock, manually move panels and widgets/plasmoids back to the other screen, and relock them. This have to be repeated each and every time a screen deactivates or when the system runs a full screen application.
What I want:
I want the panels and widgets/plasmoids to move back to their original positions once the other screen is reactivated/full screen application quits.
Suggestions?

How to create a kde panel system tray icon set?

hi, i would like to perform a modification of oxygen style to obtain a system tray composed by icons only in grayscale or b/n tones.
i tried editing the klipper icon, by desaturating all klipper.png in the various oxygen directories, and it works fine.
but in this manner all the klipper's icons used by kde are in grayscale.
now, if i change kmix icons state, also amarok's and other icons would change?
is there any method to avoid this conflict?

hi, i can't program the system tray it would be nice if there were someone that made a patch or something else. however i decolorize some icons (kmix, klipper and kmess) in a first try and this is the (not bad) result:

the thing is, kde HAS options for coloring icons in different places. Problem is that KDE does not use those - at least i never managed to make it work. It only worked if i set the colors globally
i tried to use this tool: only Desktop Effects works, but it changes both desktop and panel icons....but not system tray icons!!!
