[KDE] Some hotkeys (KHotKeys) don't work

I've posted this post on different forums, but I still await a solution for it.
I use KDE4.2.1 (KDEmod) with Qt4.5 and since the installation I had problems with KHotKeys. I would probably even know if that wouldn't mean that printscreen doesn't do nothing.
I really need only that from KHotKeys deamon. But it dosen't work It says no hotkeys no daemon...

Please only report one problem per forum post. It is simply not possible to address so many issues together. Also, I don't understand all of what you say.
You certainly cannot install any programs as root or user. Pacman can only be used by root (or by making the user acquire root privileges by using sudo, which does the same thing as using root).
In System Settings --> Advanced --> Service Manager, you can see the KHotkeys service. It always says "KHotkeys daemon. No daemon, no hotkeys." I think you misunderstand: it is to say that you cannot use hotkeys, if the daemon does not run. Whether the daemon runs or not, you can see in the "status" column. Does it run?
Sorry about two problems in one post I thought that they are somehow connected...
In service manager the KHotKeys is marked as running, but still printscreen doesn't work.
In input actions only have Konqueror Gestures and KMenu edit.
So I should start a new topic about system notification problem?
about "root" theory. As I said when I installed KDEmod from CLI I was logged on as root, and whatever I started I got an error that a dot file of that program cannot be written in as I don't have rights; eg. I need root privileges.
Anyway that's besides the point. The point is I just cant get printscreen to work even though I have KHotKeys running and all.

  • Some PDF Links don't work

    Structured Frame 7.2, Acrobat 8.1.2
Some of my Frame xrefs work as links in PDF, some don't. All xref formats use elem rather than para, the jumps work in FrameMaker. These are the first PDFs we've created after moving to structured Frame. Any suggestions? Help please!

    Teresa,
This sounds like a long-time known bug in structured Frame which I think may carry over into unstructured Frame, I'm not sure. The bug is that some PDF hyperlinks don't work if you don't include the target in the PDF bookmarks. For example, if your xrefs target a Heading3 element, but you don't include Heading3 elements in your bookmarks, Frame may fail to create named destinations for those elements and your links won't work.
There is a workaround to this bug in my shareware XRef Wizard plugin, available at www.weststreetconsulting.com. It might be able to help... look in the documentation for "named destinations."

  • Some share buttons don't work on my tablet

I have a Samsung tablet, model GT-P3113 and its Operating System is Android. In some websites when I click share buttons like addthis and sharethis, they don't work and are inactive. I refresh the page and it doesn't help. For example, none of share buttons of http://www.threehosts.com/ratings/comparison-software/wordpress-vs-joomla-vs-drupal.html work on my tablet, but when I go to this page via my Laptop the share buttons work. My laptop OS is Windows 8.
One of my friends has iPad and I sent this link to him. The share buttons work correctly for her.
Does my problem come from my Android which doesn't support share plugins perfectly, or it comes from my tablet model?
Is there anyone with Samsung GT-P3113 on this forum? If so, could you please test the mentioned page and tell if its share buttons are active or not?

I have the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2,  7", model GT-P3113, wifi only (not on my Verizon plan).  It's currently running Android 4.2.2; the share buttons on the site you listed above seem to work for me...I didn't actually go through and "share" anything, but I did get to this screen and it appears that all I need to do is log in to whatever service I want to  use to share the post :

  • Some font families don't work anymore with Firefox 4 - why?

Since upgrading to Firefox 4 some font families (like for example "Script") don't work anymore though they were working with Firefox 3.6. How can one solve this?

You can see it for example here in [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Font_family_%28HTML%29 Wikipedia] where (at least on my screen) most font-families look the same now. I have also attached a screenshot of the table in the article so you can see.
I don't actually know which font I have installed as I didn't install any in addition. It was propably some system font (is suppose Lucida Handwritig oder Lucida Calligraphy from the looking).
If there are any special installments required please tell me because I have absolutely no idea about such things.

  • Menus on some web sites don't work

I have just activated 2 new Lumia 520 phones with Windows 8 mobile. (updated to Amber)
When browsing the web, the menus don't work on a couple of web sites that I have written.
These menus use Javascript to show drop down lists and to navigate to the appropriate pages. When you click a link on the menu, the drop down menu appears for a couple of seconds, then disappears. Even in the couple of seconds that the dropdown appears, it can not be clicked.
Interestingly, these web sites also use javascript to open overlay pages when a thumbnail picture is clicked, This action works.
These menus have been regression tested in all the major browsers and they work on a PC, Mac, iPad and Android but seem to fail on Windows 8 mobile.
I searched and can't see any option that allows me to enable or disable Javascript.
Here are links to those 2 sites:
    http://www.garynancy.com/index.html
    http://www.chisholmtv.com/
    What am I missing?

The menuscript (popupmo.js) you are using will not work.
I'd suggest you take this to http://developer.nokia.com where you will likely find more help as this is a general user to user support platform.

  • Some keyboard keys don't work; most are fine

    Hi guys,
I have a really bizarre problem with my first generation 15" MBP. When I turned it on today, I realized that the down and left arrows don't work, yet the up and left arrows do. Unfortunately, I've also since realized that the tab button doesn't work, nor does the space bar! It's just a few sporadic - but very important - keys that don't work. The computer hasn't been through any trauma - no drops, no water damage, no poor working conditions...this just happened out of the blue. Does anyone have any idea as to what might have caused this, and if there's anything I can do myself to fix it? Oh, and I have Windows XP installed via bootcamp, and the same problem exists there - so it's definitely a hardware issue...right?
See this link for a photo I took of the keyboard, with the buttons that no longer work highlighted in red. http://img193.imageshack.us/i/keyboardwjp.jpg/

There are two basic possible problems though your description of which keys are non-functional leads me to think the first is rather unlikely. The first is that the keyboard cable may have worked itself partially loose. The cable can work itself loose without any trauma involved - we see one every couple of months where I work. The second possibility is physical disruption/damage to the individual keys, like water damage or something small working its way under the key to impede its ability to touch the contacts. I'd suggest going to an Apple store or repair center.

  • Wireless issue: some online software don't work

First of all, hello to everyone and sorry for my English. I'm from Spain.
I have what I think is a strange issue in my MacBook. When I'm connected by Airport wireless, I'm unable to use some online software, although I'm able to use other online programs. I mean, I can use Firefox, Mail, Adium, Google Earth, Cyberduck, Coda, Transmission, Zattoo. But Safari, iTunes Store, Fluid, AppFresh, RSS desktop-based readers (Mainly NetNewsWire and Vienna), Microsoft Messenger aren`t working. They are just unable to connect to the net. So I can't find any pattern, and apps don't give me any kind of clue. Only iTunes displays a message when I'm trying to enter iTS: " Network connection have been refused" (not exactly: I translate from Spanish).
I have to say it happens in all kind or wireless networks: with one or another router, with or without security, big ones (like the one of my university) or little ones (my home), and so. Then the problem is in my computer, isn't it? But I don't know where.
Well, I'm with this problem since I installed Leopard, 5 or 6 months ago, and I've been looking for answers in forums, blogs, etc. I haven't found anything related to, so today I decided to ask directly. Thanks for your attention.

Thanks for your answer, but I'm afraid I didn't explain well my issue. When I say "Airport" I mean Airport Extreme card, the internal one. I connect to internet by router. As I said, the problem remains with all kind of wifi routers and IS providers.
But you gave me the idea of checking my Airport card firmware and it's 1.3.5. I really don't know if is it old or what because, by the way, Software Update is one of the apps that doesn't work by wifi. Anyway I haven't found anything interesting for me in Apple - Support - Downloads related to Airport Extreme, only firmwares and updates for Tiger users. So I'll run Software Update by ethernet amd install OS X 10.5.4, but I'm afraid it's no gonna provide any help, as I have this problem since 10.5.1.
    Thanks again.

  • TS1468 Some suggestions here don't work for specialist music libraries.

Let me give an example. My main interest is classical music, particularly choral and vocal music which I also perform.
I'm just loading into iTunes the Collector's Edition of Ralph Vaughan Williams - a set of 30CDs.
CD1, for instance is simple. It contains one complete work, A Sea Symphony. Loaded into iTunes it is the first playlist in a folder called RVW Collector's Edition, and saves as a complete album. Both playlist and album are named 1 - Sea Symphony.
But CD22 is just the opposite. It consists of 29 songs performed by 12 different performers or groups of performers. It is playlist 22 - Songs and Choral Folksongs. You can guess how many albums it makes!
In some cases, several tracks have the same orchestra and conductor and different soloists.
I have about 600Gb of music in my iTunes folder [lives on a dedicated external drive] consisting of some 19,000 tracks. The main performers [choir / orchestra / conductor] are listed in the Artist field  because when I loaded the first few albums into iTunes years ago, that's where Mr Apple put them. So for consistency I have continued that habit, and list the other performers, eg soloists under Album Artists.
I can't delete the names of the Album Artists - I often want to compare performances by different performers to help me learn and understand a work, to choose other recordings by those performers, or even to buy tickets for their concerts.
All I want to do is for ME to decide what tracks are included in a any given album. and NOT Mr Apple.
Yes, there has to be a default – but why can't EIHER Apple give us a "Custom Albam" option?  Or maybe someone like Doug Adams [whose Applescripts for iTunes are part of my essential toolkit] write an app or script to do it?

First, launch Safari and open Preferences > Security and disable the "Warn when visiting a fraudulent website" if you haven't already done so; then quit Safari.
    Next, do these in order:
    1. Go to ~/Library/Safari and remove (do not delete) these items:
    • Downloads.plist
    • History.plist
    • LastSession.plist
    2. Go to ~/Library/Cookies and remove (do not delete) the cookies.plist file.
    3. Go to ~/Library/Caches/Safari and delete the entire contents of that folder.
    4. Restart Safari and see if things have improved.

  • Illustrator CS5 Hotkey shortcuts - Don´t work

    Hi sir
I'm using "Adobe Design Premium CS5" working full screen mode such as illustrator can not work Hot Key (For example:- Full Screen mode that time i want rural while we using hot key ALT+V+R) does not work
Same problem Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Flash Professional, and Adobe Indesign, as well as am expecting good reply for your side But lower version does not any hotkey shortcut problem.. . i want solve this problem please give the solutions
    By
    ----- Venkatesan S-----

I have investigated this problem some more, after finding out thru this forum at it's caused by some interferance with other software/plugins. I now have everything going as usual, that includes iTunes and Firefox, but I have not installed the Delicious plugin for Firefox - and it seems to work. I have not experienced the problem thru the last days, which is very unusual in the positive manner .
The solution must be that if you have this problem or similar problems, it's probably caused by other software. try closing on by one, and restart CS4/5. Sort out which software is causing the problem.
Weird think is that on my home computer, also an iMac with the exact same configuration as my work computer, this problem does not appear with any software installed. I have all plugins running in Firefox at all time, and every software is exactly the same as work...
    Thanks!

  • Satellite U300 - Hotkey functions don't work anymore

I recently had an issue concerning Norton 360, and used their online support, where they take control of your computer. The agent managed to disable some functions, including some Hot Key functions such as Fn+F4 - hibernate, and also disabled the drop-down menu at the top of the screen showing the functions of the keys, when the curser is at the top of the screen, or you carry out an Fn + Fnumber function.
Although I have been back on to Norton several times, they seem unable to re-commission these functions.
Any idea's how to do this, anyone?

    Thank you Pink Panther.
That ha worked fine, and I am now all up and running a normal. I had an error issue after upgrading Norton 360 v3 to v4, and used Nortons Live Asistant facility to try to rectify. They messed around with controlling my laptop for 5 hours - yes 5 HOURS, and mucked around with the registry, the task bar items, etc...
It took another three hours with their engineering dept., to put the laptop back to normal working, all except some Hot Keys and the hotkey drop down menu.
Again, thanks for the help and the link.

  • [Solved] Some programs hang/don't work after upgrade

    Hi all,
I searched and read things but couldn't find anything on this.
About a week ago I ran pacman -Syu and afterwards some programs stopped working the way they should.
The two I have had the most problems with are thunar and clementine.
Thunar takes ages to load, but when it does load it's fine. Clementine will load really quickly, but then hangs when I try to play a song. It usually never actually gets round to playing a song.
Other programs also hang when I try to save a document/file. I think it's something to do with programs that access my various storage devices.
When I run thunar from the terminal or try to play a song in clementine when run from the terminal, I get the following message:
Error calling StartServiceByName for org.gtk.Private.UDisks2VolumeMonitor: Timeout was reached (g-io-error-quark, 24)
Does anyone have any idea how I could fix this?
    Thanks for reading

The other problems are whenever a program tries to load a file browser. So for example in lowriter when I save a document for the first time it hangs for about 30 seconds before showing me the little file browser it uses to select a location to save the document. This happens for any similar function by a program (e.g. extracting files using file-roller, saving in inkscape, "save as" in firefox). However these programs' other features all work fine.
My storage devices are an internal hard drive (home partition), another internal hard drive (just storage), an internal ssd (boot and root), an external usb hard drive (just data storage) and a samba share on a raspberry pi elsewhere in my house. boot, root, home and samba are all mounted in fstab. Looking at it now though, it seems the samba drive is not being mounted and the internal storage drive is not visible in thunar. I just ran "sudo mount -a" and it's sat there not visibly doing anything, been like that for a few minutes now.
The terminal output in the original post is the error message for both clementine and thunar. Only the program encountering the error hangs, the rest of the system works fine. Once thunar has loaded, it responds quickly and normally. When I open a terminal to access drives through the command line, nothing hangs at all, so it seems to only affect gui file browsing.
I hope that answers your questions and provides the information needed, thanks again for responding, I really appreciate the help
edit: I needed to access a file on the raspberry pi, obviously the samba was inaccessible via my main machine so I plugged the pi into a monitor to access the file directly - it was having a kernel panic. I powered off the pi, uncommented it from my fstab and now everything works fine (except my pi installation). I had no idea an error on a samba share on a different machine could have such an impact on my desktop. Marking this thread as solved.

  • Finder extremely slow, trash takes ages and some USB-devices don't work

My MacPro is lightning fast when booted without extensions (shift down), but when I boot normally some apps work fine, but the Eye TV usb receiver won't work.
Emptying trash might take hours for 1 or 2 files.
Copying files from one HDD to another takes ages
Finder is extremely slow (takes forever to show contents of a mounted DMG).
installing software will often not work.
awkwardly enough FCP seems to work fine while simple use of the finder is nerve wrecking.
    iTunes won't launch.
I've tried adding extra memory (got screwed into buying 4GB at extorniate price at the Apple retaier), cleaning up cache, flushing pram, removing Norton AV, removing all old Adobe apps, all tools I never use...
I tried booting without USB and firewire devices.
now the pc HDD connected show full size empty disks where one cannot write...
I already learned to live with the fact that Snow leopard makes my HP Designjet and all my labelprinters from Brother useless, but I need to work. Does someone have an idea on how to get Snow Laggard to become a Snow Leopard?

  • Some USB devices don't work with MacBook (Unibody)

    Hi everybody,
I've just bought a new MacBook and I'm experiencing a few problems with some USB devices like USB memory sticks and USB hard disks.
Whenever I plug in one of these devices I undergo one of the following:
    - Copy operations get stuck
    - Time Machine backups get stuck
    - Finder freezes or crashes
    - Disk Utility freezes or crashes
Can someone report the same behavior?
    Thanks for any hint
PS: this is what Console reports
+11/24/08 22:50:01 kernel USBF: 22875.305 AppleUSBEHCI[0x6d6e800]::Found a transaction past the completion deadline on bus 0x26, timing out! (Addr: 2, EP: 1)+

    Hello together,
i also have seen some USB problems with the new MacBook and just checked a bit deeper.
I have no problems with my USB sticks, the USB hard drive, the MIDI interface - most stuff works. But there still is some special stuff i use for my embedded projects.
One is the USBprog, a universal AVR-based USB device with open source firmware, where i used a programmer emulation. I patched the firmware a bit, as it had problems with the OSX USB stack (was something with OSX sending a NACK and the device doing nothing on this - which is perfectly legal according to the specs). After this patch, the programmer works fine with my Mac Pro (Early 2008). But if i connect it to the MacBook, i get error messages in system.log about this device.
The funny thing - if i connect it via an USB hub to the MacBook, it seems to work fine.
The other device is an Olimex AT91SAM7 development board, which also works fine on the Mac Pro as a CDC device (/dev/cu.usbmodem*), but doesn't on the MacBook. Can be seen with cu - the first connection works fine, the second connection hangs the MacBook, you can log off, but it is impossible to shut it down cleanly. This problem can't even be removed by using a hub. On the Mac Pro, i can use several separate cu sessions on this device without any problems.
Comparing the hardware reveals that the Mac Pro uses an Intel USB chipset and the MacBook used an nVidia chipset. So there is a difference, and this difference might also reflect in which driver is used by the OS for the USB subsystem. The Mac Pro uses OHCI/EHCI, the MacBook used UHCI/EHCI. So the Hardware differs definitely, USB might really get through different software parts.
Besides this, the USBprog problem is a violation of the specs by Apple, so the USB stack in general needs some improvement. The nVidia USB drivers also might need further improvement due to the added problems of the MacBook.
I know, this doesn't help too much, but at least it could be a hint on what goes wrong. I hope, Apple will fix this with one of the next Leopard updates.

  • Myspace and some Youtube videos don't work

This problem must've been posted here before. I am using the
newest version of flash and have java-scripting turned on but when
I try to watch videos on Myspace and a few of the newer ones on
Youtube i get this message: Hello, you either have JavaScript
turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the
    latest Flash player.
If the the video is embedded on another page I can see it
fine. I have tried all the full downloads at softwarepatch.com etc.
Has anyone figured out why this happens on some PCs?

Ok guys, I think I have figured out a way to watch the vids
with the ad-blocker turned on! (it worked for me!)
First open-up the Norton Security Centre then click on:
options > Web Content > Add Site > then type 'youtube.com'
    and/or 'vids.myspace.com'.
Now click on that website (you've just inputted) and click
on: Ad Blocking > Add > then type 'ad' and click permit. If
that doesn't work try typing in: '
    http://youtube-' or '
    http://myspace-' then clicking
    'permit'.
If you stil can't see em try doing what I did and checking
out the logs in Norton by clicking on 'Statistics' in the security
centre and then 'View Logs'. You should be able to see the html
string that Norton is blocking from youtube and then tell it to
allow it, using the steps mentioned above.

  • Some function keys don't work onSatellite P850-138

    Hi,
I've got a Satellite P850-138 and the standard functions on the function keys don't seem to work (NOT the F1-F12 that you have to use Fn for, they work fine).
The video functions on F6-F10 seem to work fine when playing a video. The functions on F2-F4 and F11-F12 don't seem to work at all. (brightness up/down, switch screen, enable/disabled touchpad, volume and wireless)
Any advice on how to get them working?
    Thanks in advance.

The first thing you can try is to reinstall Toshiba value added package.
Remove preinstalled version, restart the notebook and install latest version from Toshiba download page.
