KDE update to 4.10.1 broken

Has anyone encountered any problems with recent KDE update? I barely started my desktop and almost all widgets are unavailable. Reinstalling packages did not help/
http://pho.to/1jHMN this is how my desktop looks now.
Any clues?

I am experiencing some weird stuff too. Firstly, i have updated the system (pacman -Syu) but when i reboot it my KDE desktop was unfunctional. Then i did another pacman -Syu (about 1 hour later) and kdelibs package was pulled in wich at least made my desktop functional. But, all my panels disappeared. Really weird.

  • IGoogle (and perhaps others) broken after updating to 6.0.2 -- broken for ALL versions of Firefox now.

    Hi folks,
Note: I've found a way to post images... here they are...
    [http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j480/_Melk_/iGoogle_Firefox_broken2.png iGoogle Firefox Broken (same in version 5.x, 6.x & 7.x)]
[http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j480/_Melk_/iGoogle_IE9_Working.png iGoogle Firefox IE9 Working (was like this on FF too before last update)]
This is a good one so bear with me, I'll try to be as precise as I can.
I updated FF to 6.0.2 yesterday and since then iGoogle (and perhaps other pages.. not sure on this) does not display correctly anymore.
Most evident is the fact that the links "Advanced Search" and "Language Tools" shown (usually) on the right side of the search edit box, don't show up anymore.
Other changes are the graphics which are used by the gadgets. In IE9 & FF before the update, each gadget showed round corners, not anymore in FF after update. Also, if I try to change the theme, the buttons "Add This" don't show up in FF now.
Now, here's the kicker! I completely removed Firefox from my system, meaning uninstalled it using the remove settings as well. I also deleted my profile folder & the Mozilla Firefox folder after the uninstall. Then I reinstalled version FIVE (5.0) to see if I could revert to the why things were back then, and behold, same problem!! So now, I can't repair my firefox to work properly even if I return to older versions!? wow
Tried system restore to a few days ago, that didn't fix it.
Tried version 5.x, 6.x and even the beta 7.x (all from scratch after uninstalling and deleting the profile folder + program files(x86) Mozilla folder) --- still NO FIX! ack! ;)
Frankly, I'm at my wits end on this one. I usually can repair pretty much anything computer/OS related, but this one has me stumped.
Thanks in advance for ANY help provided.. much appreciated :)
    /cheers
P.S. I also tried safe mode (took the broken FF picture in Safe Mode), but it has the same issues. In other words, I'm now officially unable to have ANY version of Firefox display iGoogle correctly anymore (5.x, 6.x, even beta 7.x). Be it bare bone, with or without addons, etc etc. All this caused by updating to 6.0.2 from 6.0.1.
Note that I've done tons of updates before without any issues. Also been using FF for the last 6+ years I think (been a while ;) )

Turns out that it's iGoogle Styling that has changed! Not a Firefox bug (although there are bugs in the new iGoogle).
The changes to my homepage (iGoogle) happened just as I was updating 6.0.2. So this led me to believe it was a Firefox bug, and since IE9 still shows the OLD style on iGoogle, it reinforced this belief.
After reading up on it on the Google forums, and chatting with a great tech support on Mozilla tech, I realized it wasn't Firefox. So you can dismiss this as a human error ;)
    /cheers

  • Black screen after KDE update (14.12.1)

A few errors or warning in .xsession.errors (don't know if they're relevant):
plasma-desktop(865)/libplasma Plasma::isPluginVersionCompatible: unversioned plugin detected, may result in instability
plasma-desktop(864): Communication problem with "plasma-desktop" , it probably crashed.
Error message was: "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply" : " "Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)" "
QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
Renaming $HOME/.kde4 and deleting /var/tmp/kdecache-$USER didn't solve anything.
I can launch applications with Alt-F2, but the screen remains black.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hello ahmedgemy
Check out the Display section of the first article below to see if you can get the Screen to turn back on. You also may want to try restoring your iPhone using iTunes to see if that resolves the issue.

Which KDE is it?  If it is KDEMod, then the answer is that there was a compatibility issue with the recent openssl update and qt that caused kdm to crash.  Unfortunately, the kdemod devs were traveling when the openssl update hit the repos.  As of Sunday morning, the devs placed the compatible version of qt up in the kdemod repos.  I tried it and now kdm is back up and running.

  • Freenx bombs after KDE update

    Howdy folks,
This morning freenx was fine on my Arch box - I could work with it just fine from a XP client. I ran pacman update and there was a kde upgrade along with a few other packages.
After the update, I can connect from XP client and OSX client but I get a black screen with an "X" flashing between mouse movements. It almost looks like some kind of xscreensaver x-org screensaver but xscreensaver it not running. As long as the mouse is moving I have my desktop, but click a button or stop the mouse and I get the funky "X" on a black screen.
    Any ideas?
    -Shawn

Looking at this some more and still baffled. I don't think it was caused by a KDE package, it looks more like an xorg thing. Here is the upgrade list:
    All suggestions welcome.

  • Kde update 4.9 & problems with auto-grouping windows

Since upgrading kde to the latest version (4.9), I'm having problems getting the window manager to automatically group windows as it used to. It should group windows of okular, for example, by default, but no matter what I do, I can't get this to happen.
I've tried modifying (basically reasserting) the settings for okular in the "windows rules" settings (under "more actions > window manager settings". I've also tried doing this via the new option "more actions > special application settings" which creates a second entry in the list of window rules. I basically have "autogroup with identical" set to "force" "yes" which seemed to do the trick before but no longer seems to have any effect. It is still enforcing placement and geometry for okular windows so it can't be that it isn't recognising the windows as ones to which the settings apply. It seems to be specific to the grouping stuff.
Does anybody have any suggestions? The config seems to have changed a bit and I'm thinking I must have missed some new setting somewhere but I just seem to keep going in circles.

Unfortunately, I am using Oxygen window decorations already.
I do have the "Attach as tab to" option but it is a pain to have to group every window manually.
I've discovered that auto-grouping does work for windows opened on the same virtual desktop but if I open a new okular window from konsole, say, I get a new window on that desktop rather than having it end up attached as a new tab to an existing window on another desktop. I can work around it by having all okular windows start on a standard desktop but this is a pain as I didn't want okular to behave this way.
Thanks for the suggestion, though. I found a lot of my window behaviour got messed up by this update. Mostly it's just a question of resetting things but this one has me stumped.

  • Kalgebra won't start after a KDE update

  • ITunes update 11.0.2 has broken my iTunes, won't even open

I plugged in my iPhone to sync and recharge when the notification popped up that an update for iTunes was available.  When first attempting to downloaded the 11.0.2 iTunes update, it got to the end of downloading and then gave me an unspecific error message.  I shut everything down, restarted, and my second try at downloading the update worked.  Now upon attempting to open iTunes, however, nothing happens--just the old 'iTunes quit unexpectedly' and the prompt to submit an error report.  I read that there might be a problem with firewall, but my firewall is turned off.  I read that there might be a problem with McAfee anti-virus programs, but I don't have one.  Another suggestion was uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes though Terminal, which I did next.  Upon launching, same problem 'iTunes unexpected quit' and a prompt to send the error report.  In trying to sync, my iPhone now also doesn't work--seems to be locked trying to restore since iTunes has bugged out.  Help?

  • After updating to iOS 8 iCloud broken

I just updated my iPad mini with Retina Display from iOS 7 to iOS 8.2.
Since doing so my iCloud access is not working.  It seems to be rejecting my password.   I have probably entered the password 40 times at this point.  It just keeps coming back and asking for the password again every time I try to check email or access photostream or go to iCloud settings or anything like that.
My iCloud password works on my other devices (iMac and iPhone, the latter still running iOS 7).
My iCloud account is my primary email address.  It is an old email address that ends with "mac.com".  This is how it shows my iCloud account on the iPad (i.e. the name of the iCloud account).  I am wondering if they might have a problem or discontinued support for the old mac.com alias when they went to iOS 8?  In that vein I am unable to find a way to change the name of my iCloud account to end with "iCloud.com".  (In case you aren't aware email addresses ending with @mac.com; @me.com and @icloud.com are one and the same and can be used interchangeably... or, at least could as of yesterday...)
I've rebooted the iPad a couple of times and this has not solved the problem.

    I have the same problem,
just updated my 5s to 8.2 and neither iphone nor ipad are accepting the password.
i reset the password twice but nothing change.
    i am not able to:
    access App store
    Access I-tunes
    Access i-cloud
    Buy from app store
    or install from app store.
when i am triing to install a free aps it told me ottieni, then install when i press install it says ottieni again. bot on iphone and ipad2.
Moreover I have full access to i-cloud and itunes store via browser on pc with the same user id and password.

  • My iPhone 4 needs updates, but my computer is broken. Can I use someone else's computer to update?

It's been a while since my computer crashed and refused to work again and I cannot afford to get it fixed. It's been a long while since I was able to update it last. It's now told me it needs to be restored or something, but like I said, I don't have a computer to do that on. If I use someone else's computer, will it update and continue to work? And will I lose everything by doing that??

    Yes you will loose everything.

  • Another update causes box to be broken.

I switched on the vision box today to be greeted by the multi coloured lines screen again.  I sighed as I knew this was going to be a problem just like last time and updat happened.
I pulled all the plugs out of the box and router and restarted everything.  The box eventually came back up but showed all channels as locked.  I had to press select then enter a pin of 1234 on each channel to unlock it before I could view it!
Secondly, the tv guide isn't working and there are loads of menu otions missing off the menu.  I cannot see the recordings menu or tv on demand.
Finally, a bit of good news, I notice the box now looks to be a media extender with new menu options for photo and mp3 playback from a windows pc!  Awesome!  That is good news!  Now if only the thing would work properley so I could use it!
Looks like I am going to have to give it a proper hard reset and lose all my recordings again!  *sigh*

There do seem to be a few issues there, however, I'd wait a while before a factory reset, the TV Guide should populate overnight, and the recordings menu should come back after a little while (usually a few minutes, but in the bad old days it was a few hours).  Perhaps another full restart may be in order if things don't come back of their own accord.
    Cheers

  • Printer fails after recent udev and kde updates

after the very recent upgrades i made everything work again fine, all except my printer on lp0, i have another printer that still works on usb flawlessly but my other printer only works on parallel port.
cups works and registers everything I try to print on jobs lists, but the printer light never blinks or prints as normal.
cat asses.txt > /dev/lp0 makes the printer light print but it never prints
    anyone else having this problem?

    Sort of.
I have a Canon Pixma iP5000 printer (USB), and after the last update it's still seen fine by the commercial CUPS backend (Turboprint) on /dev/usb/lp0 as ready and waiting jobs, but whenever I send it something to print it magically goes offline!
The only way to print something after the upgrade is stopping the printer first, sending the print output and then starting the printer- THIS way it prints just fine!
It looks to me like a major CUPS bug.

  • [SOLVED] Plasma Desktop segfaults after recent KDE update to ver. 4.6

Today after upgrading some amount of packages, including the new KDE 4.6, my Plasma Desktop "segfaults" every single time I login into my account. I tried to send some information regarding this issue using KDE's internal reporting system, but unfortunately it tells me, that those information are irrelevant. Does anyone experience "segfaulting" of the Plasma Desktop after recent KDE upgrade? I'm looking for some help on how to solve this issue, as for the moment my Arch is dead...

Actually, it is KDE that is giving you trouble, not the OS . When you reach the kdm login screen, don't login. Instead, switch to a tty (Ctrl+Alt+F1, for example) and login from there. Then, you can see a list with all your plasmoids with
    plasmapkg -l
If you find the culprit plasmoid, and it is a plasmoid downloaded outside Arch's repos (from kde-look.org, for example), remove it with

If the plasmoid is installed as a package, it is probably better to uninstall/upgrade it using pacman.

    Hi all,
I have the same problem. I tried using tty, but I got  "cannot access to X server". Than I tried
Alt+F2 to run Terminal, I used
    plasmapkg -l
in order to see the list of all the plasmoids, but I couldn't find the "culprit" plasmoid. I don't know if I am doing it right. Here the list of my plasmapkg:
