[KDE] Window List Troubles

So, in my KDE setup, which I've recently started using, I tend to have many open windows and programs, and after about 7, I like to minimize them all by using the Show Desktop widget, but whenever I open another program, it brings all the minimized programs back to whatever size they were when I minimized them. I'd like them to stay minimized, but I can't find an option for that. Can anyone suggest a fix, or tell me if I even CAN keep them minimized? It's been annoying me, and I'm both stubborn and OCD, so I'd like to fix it.
Thanks in advance

It's a feature not a bug, "show desktop" does not mean "minimize all"
But there is a hidden method, put
ShowDesktopIsMinimizeAll=true
into ~/.kde4/share/config/kwinrc below [Windows]

I really don't know where to look, I can't make any sense of the theme's file in /usr/share/themes/Adwaita/...
    [EDIT]
I'll answer myself, as it was fairly easy after all:
The file is divided in several parts, each with setting for maximized or non-maximized windows etc. To have maximized windows have no title bar add in the line starting with <frame_geometry name="max":
    has_title="false"
You can also specify the size of the bar with
    title_scale="xx-small"
Avaliable are x-small, small, large, x-large etc.
could please tell me what is the name of the file to edit it,

From what I can see, unless you're doing things with old versions of Xcode on a Mac (in which case, the solution seems to be to upgrade to the latest version), this seems to e an iTunes issue.
Accepting that it works fine with another iPad, I suggest trying the following:
    1. Restart the non-working iPad
    2. If that doesn't work, reinstall iTunes. If you're on a Windows PC, I suggest using Control Panel to uninstall all the Apple apps, restarting the PC, and doing a fresh install. If you're using a Mac, a repair permissions might help too.
iTunes 10.3 is now available, and that may make a difference.

  • Bug in window list dialog

I am currently using a 30 day trial version of RoboHTML 8.0.2 on Windows 7 Professional.  Coming from RoboHelp 2002R2, I like having the ability to keep multiple topics open at once, but there seems to be an annoying bug in the operation of the "Windows" dialog. To see this, first open several topics so there are multiple tabs open. Choose "Windows..." from the Windows menu. From the list that appears, select a topic other than the one that is currently in the foreground tab, then click the Activate button. The chosen topic will come to the foreground. Now click the Close button (not the Close Window button!) on the window list dialog. Your chosen topic goes away and the original topic pops back up to the top. There doesn't seem to be any way to choose a topic from the window list and have it come to the foreground and stay that way.

    Hi all
Nick, I use the "Nukem" approach myself. I also tend to look up and notice that I've got several tabs open. I like to squash them all really quickly. So what I do is to assign the keyboard shortcut of Ctrl+Alt+X to close all open tabs. That makes it simple for me to just press the magick key sequence.
However, I'm like Peter in the sense that I'd never use the Window menu to do this. I too just click the X on the tab.
    Cheers... Rick

The Downloads Window cannot be accessed either.
This is very annoying. Is this a bug? Or is there a fix.

If anyone is reading this still looking for what caused the issue and how to fix it here is what I discovered.
The antivirus program our company uses, Bitdefender Antivirus Plus, was causing some of the PDF files not to open. After troubleshooting the different modules and settings the culprit was..
Scan SSL in Privacy Control Settings. Turning it OFF solved the problem and all the PDF files that previously would not open now open just fine. This issue has been sent to Bitdefender for them to review. If you use a different antivirus program and are having this issue try locating the Scan SSL setting and see if turning it off solves the problem.

  • Beryl and "Show window list" icon problem

If I enable "Show window list" in application switcher I get some sort of minimized application after switching between apps.
I'm using XFCE and I made my minimized windows go on my desktop and using this application switcher means I get an icon labeld "??" when I try to switch applications. If I try and close it or do anything with it - Beryl crashes.
The same thing happened when I used rox with the pinboard option.
Did anyone encounter this? and If so how do I get rid of it?!
    Thank you,

  • Changing the icon that appears in GNOME panel window list

I've been playing around changing all my icons and stuff, but I can't figure out how to change the icon that appears in the GNOME window list, a bit like a favicon. I've changed the icon path in the application's entry in /usr/share/applications, but that had no effect. Does anyone know how to do this? I'm hoping it's not hard-coded into applications.

The location of the icon used can be different for each program. So what program specifically did you want to change?

  • [Proposal] Rename KDE Window Decoration Packages

Currently window decoration packages in the AUR are named 'kdedecor-*'.  This naming schema applies to all the KDE window decoration (Kwim titlebar and borders) packages.  The name to me though seems to be ambiguous, 'decor' could describe plasma-themes, icons, any look given to the desktop.  I think because of the current name most of these packages' descriptions have had to state that the package is a window decoration.  I think it would be a good idea to rename these to a more descriptive name.   The current packages:
    aur/kdedecor-alphacube
    aur/kdedecor-aurorae
    aur/kdedecor-aurorae-cupertino
    aur/kdedecor-blended
    aur/kdedecor-cellophane
    aur/kdedecor-cellophane-themes

    aur/kdedecor-dekorator

    aur/kdedecor-klearbox

    aur/kdedecor-linstasquared
    aur/kdedecor-metal4kde
    aur/kdedecor-mytango
    aur/kdedecor-nitrogen-kde4
    aur/kdedecor-nvidia
    aur/kdedecor-opak
    aur/kdedecor-porcelain
    aur/kdedecor-powder
    aur/kdedecor-pureline
    aur/kdedecor-reluna
    aur/kdedecor-svgdeco
    aur/kdedecor-whiteline
    aur/kdemod3-kdedecor-crystal
I've been thinking that a more descriptive naming schema would be 'kde-windecor'.  This I think would be descriptive enough without being too long.
    What do you guys think?

  • Downloads window list is reverse order

Safari has a reverse order for the downloads window list. Any way to get it normal (last thing downloaded should be at the top).

No, it has never been correct on any of my three Macs. It is correct in Firefox (Mac and Window), Opera, iCab, and Internet Explorer 7 and 8. I haven't tried Chrome yet, but I'd be willing to bet it shows latest top like all the others. Don't tell me Safari is "thinking different". If it has a reverse order to display downloads, it should at least have a way to change it to normal (normal like my email list-- latest at the top).
I don't use Safari much, but I might use it more if it made sense. Maybe there is a plugin that can reverse this thing. Safari doesn't have a config window like Firefox does it?

  • [solved] org.freedesktop.UPower no reply stalls KDE windows

Edit4: a fixed libusbx package has been released.
Edit3: I reported it https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/36418 but meanwhile, people suffering from this can systemctl restart upower and then do run nohup strace -o /dev/null -p $(pidof upowerd) it makes the problem disappear...
    Edit2: the problem is https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=985484
Edit: I thought I solved it but a couple dock-undock operations brings back the problem:
    qdbus --system org.freedesktop.UPower
    Error: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply
Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.
This causes every KDE window to appear after a 25 second wait cos apparently every new KDE window (even file uploads from Chrome) apparently needs to talk to upower and they wait 25 seconds for a timeout.
If I do a systemctl restart upower, then it gets fixed. There's nothing relevant in dmesg, journalctl, xsession-errors.

Thank you very much for posting this workaround. This bug has been affecting me as well, but now at least I can be productive while we wait for upstream to fix it.

  • Kde-window-decorator in compiz

    Hi,
Where is the package for kde-window-decorator?
The wiki just says to type it into ccsm: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Co … Decoration
Ive tried installing compiz, the kde deps, rebuilding compiz after deps were installed, tried to locate kde-window-decorator using pkgfile, and looked at the pkgbuild/build options for compiz. It's almost as if this is not an option, as there is a total lack of documentation on kde-window-decorator.
Am I totally missing something obvious or does this binary not exist?

From the wiki: "The GTK Window Decorator and the KDE Window Decorator are included in the Compiz source and can be optionally compiled whilst building Compiz. Emerald, on the other hand, is a separate, standalone decorator."
You didn't say which package you were using. But for compiz or compiz-bzr change:
    -DBUILD_KDE4=Off \
    to
    -DBUILD_KDE4=On \
Then rebuild. Then you can specify the command in the decoration plugin as per the wiki. It's not documentated because it goes pretty much unused these days. After all, it relys on Kwin (provided by kdebase-workspace, not the Kwin for Plasma 5) and as Kwin has all of the effects Compiz has, why bother with Compiz?

  • XFCE pager/window list only follow first spawned widnow, Xmonad

    Hi Lukewig,
You are right they must be opened some where in my system,
but the list it gives me is too long. Here i am giving you what i
write to get window list in BuddyAPI:
    wlist = baWindowList("","", false)
    put wlist

    .............., 65674]
After getting this list i use the following code to get the
    window captions:
    wlist = baWindowList("","", false)
    put wlist
    repeat with aWindow in wList
    if baWindowInfo(aWindow,"title")="" then next repeat
    put baWindowInfo(aWindow, "title")
    end repeat
    --Which gives me:

    196664, 395282, 395284, 4064222, 15598522, 4915774, 65688, 4129430,

You see, how long the list is and what if i now go to detect
windows from my selected list, it off course will take a lot of
    memory resources.
Well, besides this i also give a try to mcProFusion to do the
    same:
    profusion xtra result
    program=mcWindowGetList()
    put program
    -- "list - Director MX 2004
    Buddy API
    Messages.log - Notepad
    Untitled - Notepad
Buddy API Pricing - Microsoft Internet Explorer
Adobe - Lingo - Mozilla Firefox
    RealPlayer: 01 - Chand Sifarish - ApniISP.Com
    xtras
    wndxtra
    Program Manager
And this is giving me a short of only those windows which are
presently running on a user system and which a user can see as
    well.
So, can you tell me any way to use this buddyAPI to get a
short list of only viewable/presently running window's captions ??
    Thanks a lot anyways.

    Amir
