KDE4 [unstable] Keyboard is dead (Solved)

Yep the keyboard refuses to work. Tried it in openbox and it works fine. This just happened after i fixed the xorg 7.4 keyboard problems. Maybe theyre related but im not sure. The mouse works fine.

When i start with the evdev driver, i cant type anything in kdm thus i cant login. This is after selecting evdev managed keyboard in settings.
But when i use the keyboard driver , i can type in kdm but nothing once im logged in.
EDIT: It was that stupid option slow keys. Who knew slow keys would completely disable your keyboard.

Also, I am trying to connect my Mini from the mini-Displayport to the Displayport of my Dell U2410 monitor. The image is very grainy,even though it is set to the correct resolution: 1920 X 1200 at 60Hz. If I use HDMI to VGA input, the image is much clearer. Is there a way to get the Displayport to work?

I'm having exactly the same keyboard issue. Certainly nothing has ever enhanced my concentration while coding like suddenly becoming unable to type.
I'm seeing a great many devicemgr and rake errors in my system log. I don't know if they're related. How 'bout you?
If you're unfamiliar with the system log…
Open /Applications/Utilities/Console.
If necessary, choose View > Show Log List.
system.log is at the top of the FILES section.
Try searching it for hot words like DEBUG, FATAL, and aborted.
I've found some discussions that would tend to indicate my errors are postGres related – I'm running OS X server.

If your batteries leaked and possibly eroded teh contacts the best you can do it to attempt to remove all the fluid and clean the contacts. If the keyboard still does not work after a thorough cleaning yes it will need to be replaced. A new wireless keyboard is about $59 from OWC or you may want to look online for a used one, sometimes OWC (www.macsales.com) has them used. Other sources are Apple of course, Amazon, and any Apple reseller.

[Solved] BEPO keyboard and dead keys

Hello!
So, I'm using a French BEPO keyboard, and it works pretty well, till today.
Indeed, today, I wanted to write a greek letter, µ, but I couldn't. This letter is mapped to Alt-Gr+g.
However, when loading the bepo in the console, it's working well (in a TTY). This only affects QT or GTK applications so far (X).
This is the only one not working: my other dead keys just works like a charm (-> ´+i=í…)
My final purpose is to be able to type any simple greek letter as explained here (http://bepo.fr/wiki/Lettre_grecque_sous_Linux). But I need the mu lettre to work first…
I've tried GTK_IM_MODULE=xim, but then my normal deadkeys don't work anymore nor this alt-gr+g.
By default, I use:
export GTK_IM_MODULE=ibus
export XMODIFIERS=@im=ibus
export QT_IM_MODULE=ibus
I also found out that alt-gr+/(L) is not working as a dead key (in order to type ø for example). (http://bepo.fr/wiki/Barre_inscrite)
I should, lastly, say that I use a typematrix keyboard which is build with BEPO on it.

I aslo use the BÉPO layout.
The Alt-Gr + G key changed in xorg with the last update of the xkeyboard-config package (happened on June 02 for me): this combination was the 'μ' greek letter, now it is the 'dead_greek' dead character. It is now what it should be so that is fine.
To type the 'μ' letter, you now type Alt-Gr+G, followed by M.
Note that this dead key works for me only if I use the xim input method. With other input method, some dead keys work, some others don't.
I don't use some variables to set the input method, I use dconf-editor (package dconf),
I set the key org/gnome/desktop/interface/gtk-im-module to xim (you don't have to restart for this change to take effect).
When I was trying to configure greek letters before the xkeyboard-config update, I also found out that when I have a ~/.Xcompose file, it kills all the dead keys of my layout, I don't know if this is a bug or if I'm doing something wrong. Try to remove yours.

[KDE4] Troubleshooting keyboard probs [SOLVED]

For two days now I've lost keyboard responsiveness in KDE4.3.1 -- at least when I'm logged in under my username. If I log in to KDE4 as root, the keyboard responds normally. If I log in to Openbox rather than KDE as user or root, the keyboard responds normally.
I've done a lot of updates over the past couple of days and have now set about to revert them one-by-one. So far, nothing has fixed the problem.
Which package is the most likely culprit? Or is there some other KDE setting that I might have goofed up?

Thanks to some people on an OpenSuSE forum, I tracked down the problem at last.
SOLUTION: I simply had to remove the following config file:
~/.kde4/share/config/kaccessrc
I actually made a reserve copy just in case. Without this file, however, kde4 is starting fine, with full keyboard access, for my normal user.
For the record, here are the contents of the kaccessrc file that I removed:

SlowKeys=true
I don't see anything there that would have kept me from using the keyboard, but there's must be something amiss somewhere.
Also, this file was absent from the .kde4/share/config of both root and of the new user that I created to work on this problem, both of which had working keyboards under KDE4. So it is pretty clear that there's something offensive about this file!
I hope this helps someone else.

Keyboard & trackpad dead on my unibody MBP

Hiya.
I've got a late 2008 15" MBP that I haven't used for about 2 months, after using it extensively since 2009. I've had very little problems with it, but now that I've booted it up after the 2 month period, the integrated keyboard and trackpad are dead. No response whatsoever. I've got a USB keyboard and mouse, so I can get it to work. But not reset PRAM, as the USB keyboard doesn't work when booting (I tried).
I've seacrhed the intarwebz and found references to this exact problem leading to removing the battery and making sure a copper colored strip was pressed down properly. But, this model doesn't have that copper strip. So that solution doesn't work for me.
I've rebooted several times, tried to boot into safe mode (again, no keyboard means no other booting options). Since it's 4 years old, there's no more warranty. There's only one genius bar in my country (NL), and it's not near where I live.
I'm running the leatest OS and updates. There's a 2010 patch for internal keyboard problems for 10.5.x, but that doen't install on my machine.
Anyone go any tips? I checked for deformations, the battery is ok, there's no bulges or anything. And prior to the 2 month rest it was working fine.
I've searched my console logs for IO device entries but only found that it was looking for bluetooth devices on startup (as it couldn't find an keyboard or mouse). No errors that it can't find my internal keyboard.
I'm stuck. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

the problem is that us unibody mbp need the update because my machine runs at 200 degrees while doing basic work. i've installed smc fan controller and still have issues. so where's the solution for all the unibody mbps with overheating issues

Custom kernel (2.6.31) - USB Mouse & Keyboard not working [solved]

So I've just recompiled the new kernel (2.6.31) as a custom, as is my custom!
USB Mouse and keyboard no worky (but do as PS/2).
As a quick thing to check - what kernel .config settings haven't I enabled properly? A quick check though and everything SEEMS to be in order.
The stock 2.6.31 kernel works fine with the USB inputs.

[solved] I realised I was operating off an older kernel26 package (2.6.30), so synching abs and rebuilding using the 2.6.31 package and leaving a few more stock options enabled, seems to have worked.

sry, idk how to get the error output of a compiled package via mkpkg. i know its a weird error...
has anyone tryed to open my kerenel configuration with a graphical cofiguration font end, and to see if the 3945 wireless module is marked as module? when i do it its not aviable. maybe today ill find some time to do the config and compile...

yeah, config from testing *.31 works fine, but the job needs to be done to strip out all useless stuff out of that general kernel

Miix 2 10 keyboard dock dead

Hi
miix keyboard is not recognised as connected and appears tobe dead
the keyboard that it came with had the wrong keys for uk so it was swapted out
the new one arrived after I dropped my corp 8.1 image on it
i have reinstalled all the drivers from the support site
there are no ? in devise manager
any ideas what i missed could it be the bios
how do i get to the bios from the rablet without the dock keyboard..

I had a very similar prolem, after a couple of weeks my keyboard and touchpad suddenly stopped working.
Lucky I had a BT mouse connected so the following steps were a bit easier to accomplish.
Having a look at the device manager I saw that there was a device called "IC2 HID Device" with a yellow exclamation mark in the "Human Interface Devices" section.
I took the tablet out of the dock first, then removed this device by right-clicking on it and then chose "Uninstall".
On top of that I also removed ALL of the "HID Keyboard Device" entries in the "Keyboards" section of device manager (also by right-clicking and "Uninstall").
After that I immediately shut down WIndows (not just restart), waited until it was totally switched off and then switched it on again. After that I logged on to windows and then put the tablet back into the dock.
After the restart my dock keyboard and touchpad worked again.
One more strange thing that I've noticed: Before the operation I had two "HID Keyborad Device" entries in device manager and after that there were four of them. Anyway this worked for me, you might want to try it (at your own risk).

IBook G4 Keyboard is dead.

Totally dead. No caps light; no numeric keypad light; nothing.
A USB keyboard works. A replacement keyboard does NOT work.
iBook G4 1.2 GHz 12-inch 768 MB of RAM running Mac OS X 10.4.11.
Will the USB keyboard reset the PMU, or am I out of luck on that?

The external Apple USB keyboard should work to reset the PMU
and other standard keyboard shortcuts or commands on an iBook.
Been about a year since I did that, and my iBook 12" 1.33GHz
mid-2005 computer had been used predominantly as a desktop
computer with Apple keyboard, Apple pro mouse, powered USB
hub, UPS, and other items; and a keyboard tray/monitor stand to
keep the iBook on top. (Did not have to move display lid, either.)
The USB keyboard did everything expected of the internal, in the
case of my set up; and I preferred the desktop layout over internal.
Hopefully you can isolate the cause of the problem.

Hey, I'm currently unable to use the backslash "\" (Incase you wonder, I had to Google that and copypasta) key within any apps/tty1 or anything. At the moment all I get is "<" :L

Same exact hardware config used to be fine with winblows/ubuntu. So I'm guessing its something to do with how my arch is configured at the moment?

After upgradingin iPhone 4 to iOS 7 the response time of the keyboard is dead slow (basically not able to write) and overall performance is a real challenge. Any ideas?

After upgrade to IOS 7, the iPhone of my wife is dead slow. It takes at least 10 seconds that the virtual keyboard responds and even the passlock reaction to the inputs is very much delayed. Like this she is not able to do write any messages or emails.
Any ideas what can help?

after last update I cant use the trackpoint and keyboard on my IBM T40 under x, only the touchpad works.

Phantom Joystick or M$ "Digital Media" Keyboard !? [solved]

Over the past couple of days I've been trying to get a python pygame based game to work. Currently I've had to disable the joystick code in the game to prevent the character relentlessly moving north-west across the screen.
As I don't have a joystick I assumed the game code logic to be faulty in it's handling of non-existent joysticks. However I have since tried an update for another game and discovered the character relentlessly runs around in anticlockwise circles and then remembered this happened the last time I tried that game some time last year (IIRC).
The python game spits out "SDL_JoystickGetAxis value:-32767".
using jstest (from joyutils) on /dev/input/js0 says:
Joystick (Microsoft Microsoft® Digital Media Keyboard) has 37 axes and 57 buttons. Driver version is 2.1.0.
jstest also reveals the same numerical value as the SDL message above.
While playing either of the games, unplugging the keyboard and/or mouse has no effect on the relentless movement.
I'm only a very casual gamer so haven't found this behaviour elsewhere. The two games I've found to be effected are E.S.P Hadouken, and, Tiny And Big (demo). Games I've found to behave themselves are Minecraft, and OpenRA.
What other tools/utils/diagnostics could I try to pinpoint the problem?

I worked around it by making the corresponding js* devices have permissions 0000.
In /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/52-ms-keyboard.rules:

your idProduct is probably different.
$ udevadm info --query=all --name=/input/js0
P: /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.0/usb2/2-3/2-3:1.2/input/input56/js0
N: input/js0
E: ID_MODEL_ID=0745
This should show your idProduct as ID_MODEL_ID.
$ lsusb
Bus 002 Device 015: ID 045e:0745 Microsoft Corp. Nano Transceiver v1.0 for Bluetooth
Here it's the id part after the ":"
Unplugging and replugging the keyboard should have udev run the new rule.

KDE4 ignores font hinting settings [solved: qt bug, fixed in 4.5]

KDE seems to ignore the hinting settings. It's present in ~/.fonts.conf, also Qt3 apps work fine.
I would like to use slight hinting everywhere, but KDE4 defaults to full hinting anyway
Google wasn't very helpful on this issue, and I found no mention of it in the KDE bugzilla.

The keyboard stopped working[SOLVED]

Hello,
I got a very strange problem. I cannot type my password in gnome login box anymore. I mean, when I try to type the password nothing gets typed, as if my keyboard wouldn't work. So I cannot log in. When I hit the caps lock the caplock light doesn't come up on the keyboard. Somehow the keyboard got disabled. The keyboard, otherwise, is ok because it works happily on other partitions.
Any idea, how to fix this.

Are you sure your keyboard is plugged in correctly? Sometimes even just a slight bump or pull can disable the functionality (I actually just had my computer freeze up from that). You say it runs on the other partitions though...what do you have running on there?
