KDEmod 4.1 (RC1) packages

It doesn't look like many people know of them, and since we could use some more testing before 4.1 is released, I'm posting here.
An up-to-date-ish post here, about how to install it:
http://www.kdemod.ath.cx/bbs/viewtopic.php?pid=4611
In addition to the normal KDE packages, we provide some extra plasmoids and other nice packages, like Yakuake, Arxin and Shaman. We also have some KOffice 2 pre-alpha packages, if you want to try it out (thanks to boom1992 ).
I have made PKGBUILDs for the kde-nepomuk stuff from playground (tags:/-kio-slave and the like), but because funkyou is on holiday, it isn't added to the repo's yet (the x86_64-version can be gotten from http://kdemod41.likbilen.com/ however, and everything should be kosher by monday).
If the official repo is slow, there's a complete mirror at:
http://kdemod.iskrembilen.com/repo/unstable/i686/
http://kdemod.iskrembilen.com/repo/unstable/x86_64/
Please note that these packages are still rather unstable, but they are really getting there. Stuff that's missing is the language packs and kdebindings (looking into it this weekend, together with building 4.0.84).
(Oh, and before someone starts mentioning duplication of effort, these are split packages, like the kdemod 3.5 packages, and also, we just build the snapshots, we don't do daily rebuilds of SVN trunk. )

Yeah, I noticed that before I installed it.  Thanks for the info, though.
It's just that I've installed the KDEmod4 packages at least half a dozen different times on fresh Arch installs and have done some upgrades, too, but as it turns out the Kde4 packages released by tanis have always worked better on my end than any of the others I've tried.  That said, I'll probably stick with them until the official release goes into the Arch repos.
Please don't think I'm criticizing any of the kdemod stuff, because I'm not.  It just hasn't worked out all that well for me when I've installed it.  I'm actually very glad it's available for those that want it.
Thanks if it is you that makes it available.
No problem at all, and thanks for the kind words
But, if you have time and patience, it would be nice if you posted a bug about the problems in the bug tracker at http://kdemod.ath.cx/bugs/

    Please help.

I dis the same as you some time ago, i.e. switched from kdemod to arch kde...I ran the command
    pacman -R kde-meta
to solve my problems.   When I tried to simply install kde I ran into a plethora of problems.  Also make absolutely sure that you have no kdemod packages lyinga around before you do the update, run
    pacman -Q | grep kdemod
and uninstall all packages.  Also least but not last, make sure you are not in the kde desktop enviroment when you run these commands.  Hope this helps.

  • Why is pacman trying to upgrade arts?

I'm having a problem with pacman -Syu. It says:
    :: arts conflicts with kdemod-arts. Remove kdemod-arts? [Y/n] n
But I don't even have arts installed. Why is it doing that?
    Thanks,

I did the --debug thing and didn't find anything useful. Here is the output:

    :: arts conflicts with kdemod-arts. Remove kdemod-arts? [Y/n]
Didn't say who requires arts really. qt4???
I even tried to say Y to all the questions but in the end pacman give up saying cannot satisfy dependency.  dependency hell? Haven't had that in a long time.

  • Libjpeg error after update?

    Hi,
after a rather big update today a lot of apps don't start anymore. I use kdemod3. when trying to start apps like kmail oder akregator, I get following error:
kmail: error while loading shared libraries: libjpeg.so.62: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
background image of my desktop is gone, too. don't know if this is due to the same libjpeg-error.
anyone else having this problem? any ideas for solutions?
    thx,
    pseb

it's not about kdemod, but many other packages (including gtk) are broken because of this missing libjpeg: they should be rebuild with the new version.
It's a recurrent problem on the linux plateform, as soon as there is a new version, the old lib are removed and nothing a working anymore (including old proprietary games, but proprietary games are supposed to be evil aren't they?)
It's quite annoying for people "like us", but I don't even want to think how many newcomers to linux (I'm not talking about archlinux users here) will go back to windows or mac os x when they encounter such problems, which should never happen on a decent operating system.
How could this be fixed for ever? I'm not talking about the Archlinux case, but it should be fixed upstream.
    Some solutions:
    - The KISS and really dirty way (I don't want to spend more than 1 minute on this kind of stupid problem):
    ln -s /usr/lib/libjpeg.so.7.0.0 /usr/lib/libjpeg.so.62
In 99% of the case, it's working fine, even if Linux Gurus may advice strongly against this.
    - Other more pragmatic solutions would be to keep the old lib among the newer (but it's not a really clean solution either), to test for /usr/lib/libjpeg.so.*** if it can't find the awaited lib, or to keep the old lib in a separate folder (also in the PATH) so people could remove them after a while.

  • Splitted packages (KDEmod-like) for docs?

Sorry for posting another thread about the "stripping-docs" issue.
I built last week some KDEmod packages from svn to get rid of a bug in kate, and I encountered for the first time the splitted packages concept used in KDEmod.
In your opinion, is it feasible (and not too time-consuming) to use the same system to split every package in package-bin and package-doc?

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear.
I didn't go through the details of how packages are splitted in KDEmod, I just used the following thread:
    http://kdemod.ath.cx/bbs/viewtopic.php?id=592
They have two different makepkg for splitted and non splitted packages.
They don't split bin and doc, but independent parts of the package, letting you choose to install only one part.
    An example:
    $ pacman -Ss kdetoys
    extra/kdetoys 3.5.9-1 (kde)
    Toys for KDE.
    kdemod/kdemod-kdeaddons-base 3.5.9-1 (kdemod)
    KDEmod KDEtoys base package
    kdemod/kdemod-kdetoys-amor 3.5.9-1 (kdemod-kdetoys)
Amusing Misuse Of Resources put's comic figures above your windows
    kdemod/kdemod-kdetoys-base 3.5.9-1 (kdemod-kdetoys)
    KDEmod KDEtoys base package
    kdemod/kdemod-kdetoys-eyesapplet 3.5.9-1 (kdemod-kdetoys)
A kicker applet similar to XEyes
    kdemod/kdemod-kdetoys-fifteenapplet 3.5.9-1 (kdemod-kdetoys)
Kicker applet, order 15 pieces in a 4x4 square by moving them
    kdemod/kdemod-kdetoys-kmoon 3.5.9-1 (kdemod-kdetoys)
System tray applet showing the moon phase
    kdemod/kdemod-kdetoys-kodo 3.5.9-1 (kdemod-kdetoys)
    Mouse movement meter
    kdemod/kdemod-kdetoys-kteatime 3.5.9-1 (kdemod-kdetoys)
System tray applet that makes sure your tea doesn't get too strong
    kdemod/kdemod-kdetoys-ktux 3.5.9-1 (kdemod-kdetoys)
    Tux-in-a-Spaceship screen saver
    kdemod/kdemod-kdetoys-kweather 3.5.9-1 (kdemod-kdetoys)
Kicker applet that will display the current weather outside
    kdemod/kdemod-kdetoys-kworldwatch 3.5.9-1 (kdemod-kdetoys)
Application and kicker applet showing daylight area on the world globe
As you can see, in standard kde, kdetoys is a single package, while in kdemod you can choose to install separately a single component (let's say amor).
But there is only one PKGBUILD for kdemod-kdetoys, and it includes instructions to install or uninstall only one component, notably the line
    # LIST OF SPLIT INSTALL FUNCTIONS
    splitinstall=(base_install amor_install eyesapplet_install fifteenapplet_install kmoon_install kodo_install kteatime_install ktux_install kweather_install k
    worldwatch_install)
Using the same system to split every package in bin and doc was my idea, but I really don't know if it is easy to implement.
It could be helpful if somebody of the KDEmod team posted in this thread.

  • How do I migrate from KDEMOD back to Arch's KDE package?

I've been a fan of KDEMOD for a long time, now that they are phasing it out, I'm kinda stuck in the limbo and would like to move to Arch's KDE package, is there a seamless way that you guys can recommend while keeping my KDE configurations?

In theory you should be able to comment out the kdemod repos in pacman.conf and then run
    pacman -Syyuu
to refresh the databases and downgrade from kdemod.
You should then be able to install KDE from [extra] or [kde-unstable] if the latter is enabled
You might also want to get a list of installed KDEmod packages to know what KDE packages to get

  • Pacman finds repo and kdemod-* packages, but not kdemod itself?!

Hi everyone! I couldn't find anyone with the same weird problem I have..
I've done what was advised in http://www.archlinux.org/news/411/
Due to a limitation in pacman's conflict checking and symbolic link resolution, the upgrade to klibc-1.5.14-1 requires manual removal of a symbolic link befole updating. Please run the command "rm /usr/lib/klibc/include/asm" as root to remove the symbolic link that will otherwise cause a few hundred false file conflicts.
    then, as root:
    Pacman -Suy,
    Pacman -Syy
everything updated nicely, all repositories found and synced.
    then..
    # pacman -S kdemod
kdemod package not found, searching for group...
    (huge list of kdemod* programs)
    install whole content? [Y/n]
..the whole content being over 1gb of mostly unnecessary kde-related programs so that couldn't be it.
This is a fresh arch64 install, I haven't made any weird custom configurations. I've followed the kdemod site instructions and arch wiki faithfully, adding the x86_64 core repository to pacman.conf. Triple checked for typos.
Pacman finds and installs nvidia, xorg and openbox without problems
With kdemod3, kde, gnome and xfce4 it's the exact same behaviour as with kdemod.
I don't understand why since "pacman -Sy" finds all necessary repos perfectly and even the individual bits for kdemod..
    ..halp!

Ok I just retried that, xorg was actually not a package but a group just like you said - it was the first thing I installed so I didn't pay attention (d'oh).
I'm writing this from another pc next to my laptop so I won't type in my whole pacman.conf.
    It's unchanged apart from adding:
    [kdemod-core]
    Server = http://mirror.rit.edu/kdemod/core/x86_64
I've tried the other kdemod repositories as well so that can't be the problem, the [community] which kdemod needs is working too
this is the output from pacman -S kdemod:
kdemod package not found, searching for group...
:: group kdemod (including ignored packages):
         kdemod-arxin  kdemod-kde-common  kdemod-kdeartwork-desktopthemes  kdemod-kdeartwork-emoticons
...etc etc etc... a full screen of kdemod-something..
         kdemod-kdeutils-kgrubeditor  kdemod-powerdevil   kdemod-shaman   qtmod
    :: install whole content? [Y/n]
hmm.. this is weird, I just handpicked
    kdemod-kdebase
    kdemod-kdebase-runtime
    kdemod-kdebase-runtime-icons
    kdemod-kdebase-workspace
to be installed and it says the installed size would be 750mb - even more than a complete kdemod install?!

  • 2.1 RC1 - Search Source Code results - Go To package name doesn't work

    Hi.
When I perform a search through Reports -> Data Dictionary -> PLSQL -> Search Source Code and I right-click -> Go To ... on a row of the results, nothing happens.
    Regards.

Edited by: archimede on Dec 2, 2009 12:29 PM

Sorry Vadim, but the procedure to reproduce the bug is different:
    1) Open the Reports tab
    2) Expand Data Dictionary node
    3) Expand PLSQL node
    4) Click on Search Source Code
    5) Select a Connection
    6) Click on Text Search, enter a string to search and click Apply
    7) On the results page, right-click any line and select Go To <package name>
    8) The package opens on line 1, not the line shown on step 7
While we're at it, do you think it would be possible to make the above process more user-friendly? Like, for example, right-clicking on a Connection and have the Search Source Code option there (that would take me directly to step 6)?
    Regards.

  • SQL Dev 2.1 RC1 - Expanding packages under Schema Browser

When i navigate to the the schema brower and expand my list of packages i click on the (+) to expand the package and see the body but by clicking on the (+) it open the package spec in a sql worksheet, if i then close this it collapses the package up again but the second time i can then expand down to body but this to then open up straight away before i get a chance to specify which proc/function i want to look at.
Anyone else hiting this problem ?
Is this expected or is it a bug ?
    Thanks
    Trotty
I am running against a 9i DB if that makes any difference.
Edited by: Trotty on Dec 3, 2009 1:06 PM

    Trotty,
    thanks for your reply.
That did the trick... kind of. I'm now forced to double click to open the body. :(
I find really frustrating how a development tool makes browsing and accessing the objects a PL/SQL developer deals with more frequently (package BODIES) inconvenient.
OTOH it's free, so maybe I should just shut up and go back to work... :)
    Alessandro
Edit: BTW, it's still a bug, IMHO as I didn't click on the object but only expanded a node clicking on +* (that option should have nothing to do with this action).

This is a known bug in KDE 4.1.4 and has been fixed recently in their SVN.
However, as KDE 4.2 is approaching soon, we will not provide a fixed package.
Instead, you could switch to KDE 4.2 RC, which runs quite stable and is a lot better than 4.1. Our packages also have the latest bugfixes from the 4.2 branch, so its actually not RC1 but KDE 4.2 pre-something
For instructions on how to change to the 4.2 RC, check this page

  • Flash Builder 4.5 + AIR 3.0 RC1 does not output modules to correct location

    Hello
I'm having some trouble with Flash Builder 4.5 and Flex SDK 4.5.1.21328 with AIR 3.0 RC1. Flash Builder does not appear to compile modules into the location set in the "Edit module" dialog.
The screenshots below show that the output path of a module is set to a specific folder, yet Flash Builder compiles the module into the default sub-folder.
#1. Project properties showing application modules
#2. Dialog showing the path to the module. Not the "Output SWF" location. The default location is the same as the package namespaces, eg: "d6/v3/banners/Banners.swf". After removing the path the module should compile into the output folder (set to bin/debug), however as the next screenshot shows, the module still compiles into the default sub-folder.
#3. The module is compiled into a sub-folder of the output folder, instead of into the "root" of the output folder.
#4. The output folder contains only the main application, with a sub-folder for the module.
#5. Project pproperties showing the output folder.
There is a workaround - move the module source file into the "Default package" in the package explorer.

I experienced this problem today, and kind of "solved" it. There may be an underlying bug, though.
My project compiled fine last Thursday, but I opened it up on Monday (unchanged) and this error showed up in several files. I tried quitting and restarting Flash Builder to no avail. I could not replicate the problem in a new project.
For me, each occurence of the error was at a private function definition, so I thought I would try changing "private" to "public" on one of the functions. The error immediately went away in all 3 locations (not just the one I edited). I then changed it back to "private" with no error.
I hope that will help the Adobe team track down the problem.
