KDL-40BX450 - problem

A year or two ago I purchased a KDL-40BX450 HDTV for our vacation home. This product has had little use - well less than 100 hours.  A couple of days ago it came on by itself emitting a high pitched, siren like, sound.  I turned it off and then back on several times - the sound returns each time and is not controllable at all. As a long time Sony customer for products over the years I didn't keep receipts and such - and as I'm almost certain the one year warranty has expired, I was not trying to get warranty coverage when I contacted Sony/support.  What I had hope to learn was possibly if this was a common problem with that model and whether I should consider repair or replacement.  What I discovered has turned me from a Sony fan to disgust with Sony. I went on a chat line - exchanged greetings with "Patrick C84R" and gave basic info to him - he asked for time to review my question - after more than 15 minutes and not able to even send the question "are you still there" I caught on - the session was unceromonously disconnected.  Assuming this was maybe a transmission problem I tried again - this time got "Abner C8XH" and the exact same thing happened - I took the hint - gave up and went to the phone option. I spent over 20 minutes with a person on the phone - she repeatedly asked the same question - ask me to hold - came back on and asked the same questions - back on hold - back to the same questions - telling me nothing other than the people I need to talk with were backed up, placing me on hold again and again - finally saying someone would call me within 24 hours and gave me a reference number E61519337. With no such call ever coming and the chat experience - not to even mention the product failure - I now realize that Sony is not the company that I've previously dealt with - the products and the service behind them are of the lowest quality of any experience I've ever had with electronics.

Hi opalomeque,
Welcome to Sony Community!
If you choose to perform the software update after the initial setup, a spinning arrow will be displayed on the TV screen indicating that the software update is already being processed. The TV will display the following icons and message.
IMPORTANT: During this time, do not disconnect neither the TV from the network nor the power cable. You will not also be able to use the TV during the update.
It will take approximately 60 minutes to complete the initial update for your Android TV.
Select OK when System software update is complete.
For further assistance concerning your television, we kindly recommend visiting our Sony Global Web site for information on contacting the Sony Support Center in your region at http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/Support/.

  • KDL-60W610B Problems

My 7-month old TV is having multiple problems. Picture & sound blink on and off for fraction of second every few minutes when watching cable TV (both live and DVR recordings). Does not do this watching via internet. But watching via internet such as Netflix programs now stop part way through, spinning circle appears and number goes up to 25% then stops. Message then appears that I have lost connection to internet. First time this happened I reset router and resumed watching until it happened again. Last night same thing happened, but instead of resetting router, went into guest room and accessed Netflix via Roku device on old Vizio TV and finished program without problem. Obviously the router wasn't the problem. Both the 'blinking on and off' problem watching cable TV and now the internet programs failing are recent phenomena, both appearing in the last couple of weeks. I will try a firmware update next to see if problems stop. If that fails, I will be calling for service.

Hello Davart73, thank you for your message. Welcome to SONY Community!
Performing some troubleshooting steps may fix all the issues you've been experiencing with the TV. For issues related to a cable box I recommend you to check all connections between both devices. Probably a cable may need to be replaced to avoid blinking on & off.  Aditionally, resetting the unit to default factory settings may be one solution.
Note: If the picture & sound blink on and off with your cable TV only, there may be an issue with the signal your company is broadcasting. Kindly recommend you to check if the issue happens with other devices like DVD, Blu-ray disc players, etc.
    Follow the steps below:
    1. After a picture or display information appears, wait two seconds and then press and hold the up arrow button on the remote control.
    2. While holding the up arrow button, press and release the Power on button on the side of the TV. Reset will appear momentarily on the lower left hand corner of the TV.
NOTE: If the reset procedure does not start immediately after the picture or display information appears, the reset will not work properly. In this case, start this procedure again.
    3. Release the up arrow button on the remote control and wait for the TV to reset.
Note: If the Reset message does not appear and the TV turns off and on, begin again.
If you are using an unsecured wireless network, you may be unknowingly sharing your connection with other people in your area, increasing the demand on your network bandwidth. Using a secure network is recommended.
Any wireless product can experience slow connection speeds. It is normally due to the distance away from the router or other electronic devices (e.g. a microwave) in the home interfering with the wireless signal.
    A. To improve the wireless connection, try moving the router access point closer to the Sony product that is streaming the video.
    B. If the router is close enough, using a wired Ethernet connection is suggested instead.
Depending on your Wireless LAN specifications, the communication speeds, stability, transmission range, etc. will vary. If supported by your router, connect via [n].
[n] : Recommended by Sony. Supports HD image quality playback.
[g] : Not as fast as [n], but stable.
[b] : Not recommended for streaming videos.
Some routers equally divide the data flow (bandwidth) between each device on the network. Other routers have Quality of Service (QoS) settings that can be adjusted to help manage data priorities within your network. You may need to check with the manufacturer of your router or your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to check for and adjust QoS settings.
Your ISP may be experiencing heavy Internet traffic. In this case, performance might be improved by manually changing the Primary DNS Server option to 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 in the Network Settings menu of the Sony product.
Setting up the IP address and proxy server settings of the Internet video device depends on the design or settings of the router. If the router has not automatically assigned an IP address to the Internet video device you may be able to set the IP address manually.
To manually set an IP address on an Internet Video device, check the link below: https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/35254
For more information, you can also check the following links:

You really have to mess with the resoluton, espescially the refresh rate, as it varies from projector to projector, monitor to monitor. Even within the same brand! Because so many manufacturers are trying so many different things to become the next cool kid on the block, and the way the formats are being configured that's now part of the game.
That's why so many professionally produced corporate shows hire a dedicated projectionist for the video presentations. Too many bugs in the honey.
Refresh & sesolution are the first things to look at.
Just so you know that colors in PowerPoint PC, and PowerPoint Mac, don't exactly match... go figure.
I forgot to mention another thing, sometimes it's the projector that needs to be tweaked.

  • Problem getting fullscreen resolution with MBP and Sony Bravia KDL-40W2000

    Hello,
I usually dont post much on forums so sorry if my question is noobih but this time i think i need help so please bear with me. I have searched the web and read lots of posts without anything that helps.
I recently got my new MBP 15 last week and wanted to watch a movie on my Sony Bravia KDL-40W2000 TV using XBMC.
So i connected my MBP using the original Display port - DVI converter and then a DVI-HDMI converter. So my picture was connected to the HDMI port of my Sony tv.
After a few adjustments on my Tv using pixel for pixel the best picture i could get was almost 85% of my tv which left me black edged. Using the OSX display setting i got 1080i so i also tested SwitchResX and got out 1080p (1920x1080) but the picture looked the same as 1080i,e.g i still had the black edges. Really cant understand why 1080p does not cover the whole screen to be honest, maybe someone have a good explanation?
When i removed the display mirroring i got the full-screen but on the downside the desktop (on tv) looked somewhat zoomed in so i couldn't see the top-menu.
I also played around with overscan but it did not help to remove it. Without overscan the picture gets even smaller on my tv leaving my with even bigger black edges.
I cant figure out how to get the proper resolution on my tv.
I hope someone with similar TV can help me out. Any other suggestion, ideas are more then welcome.
ps. How does overscan option works anyway, is it not suppose to cover the whole tv screen? why does the picture get the black edges?
    Cheers
    /reza

Hi OpenChannel...did u ever find an answer in the discussion boards. I have a 40" Bravia and was wondering if I could connect via DVI to HDMI cable.

  • I am having a problem with my remote on my KDL-46v2500 TV.

My OEM remote will only operate the TV when it is very close to the reciever on the TV, and then only sometimes.  My after market remote has the same issue.  However the remote on my Android phone works fine.  My guess is that the remote reciever on the TV is failing (is that possible) and that the phone puts out a much stronger signal.  Can this be true?  And if so can the reciever be fixed easily.  With TVs so cheap, it may not be worth it however I hate to throw out such a great TV

  • MDP to HDMI display problem with Sony Bravia

    Hi,
I've tried without success to connect my 2010 MBP to my Sony Bravia KDL-40W2000 using a Griffin Video Display Converter and an HDMI cable.
The TV isn't displaying a picture and no audio is transmitted either.
When the Griffin adapter is connected, I see an additional Display preference window (titled 'SONY TV'), but whichever options I choose in that window, I can't get anything to come up on the TV. I've tried all the resolutions possible and have experimented with turning mirroring on and off. Every combination ends up with the same result: the display is fine on the MBP but nothing appears on the TV.
I've looked through the TV's menus but there seem to be only a few relevant settings to tweak, and tweaking them hasn't helped. Sony's support team told me that their TVs aren't designed to accept HDMI input from computers(!), which just doesn't seem right given that others have had no problems in connecting up their kit to Sony TVs.
I know the HDMI cable is fine as it works when connected to the TV via another device.
I'd guess that the Griffin adapter is faulty, although if this were the case I wouldn't have expected the extra Display preference window to have appeared.
Is anyone able to diagnose the problem before I try to get the Griffin adapter replaced?
    Thanks,
    John

    Hi John,
Did you fix your problem? I have an uncannily similar problem. I bought my MBP in December '09, and recently bought a Neet mini HDMI adaptor (http://www.amazon.co.uk/DisplayPort-AUDIO-v1-3b-adapter-cable/dp/B002SKJKE2/ref= sr126?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1282087795&sr=8-26) and HDMI cable. But I can get nothing at all through to the Sony TV through it. My Sony TV is KDL-40s3000. I went into the Preferences - Display and it didnt detect the Sony there, and in the Sony menu, under Settings - Set-Up - HDMI Set-Up, it never detects any device either. Under the channel on the Sony I chose for this, it does say "out of range". Perhaps that has something to do with it. Any solutions you found, please let me know!

  • Problem with iMac mini DVI output to TV via VGA

    Hi
I've searched these forums and Googled but haven't found the answer to this problem!
Basically, I'm trying and so far failing to connect an iMac that I bought in mid 2007 (v 5.1, OS X 10.6.5) to a new HD TV (Sony KDL-32EX403). I'm using a Mini DIV to VGA adaptor from the iMac with a VGA cable that goes into the 'PC' input round the back of the TV. When I try and select the 'PC' function from the inputs menu on the TV, the icon is greyed out.
No matter what I try - turning mirroring on and off, changing resolution, unplugging, restarting - it makes no difference. Weirdly the display menu does acknowledge that the Mac is connected to a Sony TV and gives a list of resolutions to choose from.
However... when I tried connecting my PC notebook using the straight VGA cable (output on the PC, input to the TV) the image appears fine. So I took the cable out of the PC, screwed on the VGA-DVI adaptor and plugged it back into the Mac and it worked! However when I switched back to TV mode I could not switch back to PC input, the icon was once again greyed out.
    Sigh...
I see no reason why this doesn't work without this awkward workaround so if anyone can help or has had a similar problem please shout!
    Thanks

I have my Macbook (early 2008) hooked up to a 19-inch TV I use as a second desktop. You won't find any cords that go straight from mini-DVI to HMDI, and even if you do I wouldn't recommend them. You'll have to get an adapter cable that goes from mini-DVI to DVI and then get a DVI to HDMI cable. I got the Apple-made adapter (about $20) even though it's more expensive because apparently third party ones can have problems. You can get a DVI to HDMI cable anywhere, they can run expensive but I got one off Amazon for less than $10.
That connection is video only so yes, you'd need a different connection for sound. As to how you hook the sound up, it depends on what you want to use for sound. If you want the sound to come from the TV speakers then you'd have to use a different cord than if you wanted to hook it up to a sound system. If you let me know I can explain what you'd need to do for that. Hope this helped

  • MacBook 13-inch Aluminum (Late 2008) to Sony Bravia KDL-40W5800

    Hello forum,
I am looking to buy a Sony Bravia KDL-40W5800 (Sony link, Amazon link) in the near future. I am going to be using it to play PS3, watch television and DVDs/Blu-Rays, but also I would like to be able to connect my MacBook to it if I wish to. I have been reading the forum and have come across numerous users that have problems connecting their MacBook to their HD-TVs.
    So my questions are:
What adapter cables do I need to connect the two devices (I already own the Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter, if that's any help) correctly?
Is the Sony Bravia KDL-40W5800 compatible with the MacBook and does anyone have any experience with the TV itself? If so, I would be grateful for any kind of feedback.
    Thank you in advance,
    XtremeFluX

    Hi,
I have been using my macbook (late 2008 2.4 ghz) with my Sony Bravia (KDL 26S2030) for about a year now. I use Mini Display port to VGA and then into my PC input. I am perfectly happy with the picture quality (although you may want to fiddle with you custom settings) and I have never had any issues.
When I was looking originally I came across tons of people who had problems with connecting the Macbook to their monitors. However there was a patch that came out (maybe last march) and so I bought my equipment after that and the mac always connects properly (although be sure to turn your TV on before to put the mini display port in). You will need to calibrate it and that will be that.
I hope that helps a bit.

    @RW4HP ,
Hello and thank you for posting on the HP support forums.  Lets see if we can get your sound issue resolved here.
First thing we will want to do is break down each step in the chain of components.
First thing you will want to try is to connect directly to the display with your notebook and try to play the movie.
If no sound go to the next HDMI input on the Display.  NOT THE SONY.  If no sound from each of the input ports on the Display.  Change the HDMI cable.
    Repeat the first steps.
Now if that fails try another DVD.  If you are still having a no sound issue try a new media player.
Switch up to VLC media player.  The only reason I suggest this one is due to the fact that is a free player and is loaded full of codecs that support almost anything.
    VLC Media Player
If this fails to do the job then we shall move on to the removal of the drivers.
Now when you go to uninstall the HDMI driver you will want to do this from safe mode.  This will make sure no other drivers or software are live to make a mess of the removal.
Before you remove the drivers though you will want to download the drivers that are the only supported drivers for your system from this link.
HP ENVY 17-j001eb Notebook PC Drivers
Now boot into safe mode and remove the HDMI drivers and the Graphics and Sound drivers.
    Windows 8 Safe Mode
Once you have done all this the next thing is to follow the steps for troubleshooting HDMI.
    Here are some links.

  • Sony Bravia KDL-40W600B Media Player stopped

Just bought my Sony Bravia KDL-40W600B and the Media Player stopped playing my movies from an external HD, is there any solution for this problem from the company? I heard a lot of similar complaints, what SONY is doing about it? Can this bug be fixed? I recently own a Samsung 3D and I don't have this problem and my HD movies played smoothly and it loaded fast. • Macbook and Sony KDL-32EX401 LCD TV

I bought a Sony KDL-32EX401 LCD TV and wanted to connect it throgh HDMI cable with my macbook, but it won´t work. After that I tried it with a Panasonic Plasma TV and it worked without problems. Can anyone tell me what to do that I can get my mac screen on my new Sony TV?

    hi krj027,
I have initially had the same issue as you. The Sony Bravia KDL-32EX401 seemed not to recognize signals conveyed through mini display adapter- hdmi connection. I corrected this successfully by using a HDMI switch, this is the link on ebay:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MINI-HDMI-AUTO-SWITCH-BOX-3-1-out-NEW-SEALED-/190474606666 ?pt=UKConsumerElectronics_VideoSwitches_SM&hash=item2c592bd84a#ht_1618wt937
I could not find an answer to how this made it work but I guess it is worth giving it a try. The connection I used was: macbook- mini display adapter- hdmi cable- hdmi switch- hdmi cable- Sony Bravia KDL-32EX401. I believe other hdmi switches other than in the link should work too.
    Good luck!

  • Sony Bravia KDL-46W5100 power on then off.

Hello, I have a Sony Bravia KDL-46W5100 TV. It powers on, the backlight shows activity as in you can see that it wants to do something, then powers itself back off then back on in a cycle.. What could the issue be? If you tell me a board please be specific in which board would cause this and why. Thank you

    Hi CraigH,
    Welcome to the Sony Community!
Please perform the steps below to troubleshoot your issue"
    Power Reset
    Turn off the television.
IMPORTANT: For a projection television that uses an internal lamp, wait 5 minutes after turning off the television to allow the lamp to cool before continuing with the following steps.
Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.
NOTE: If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.
    Turn on the television.
    Factory Reset
Unplug the TV power cord from the electrical outlet.
Allow the TV to remain without power for one minute.
Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.
NOTE: The TV should turn on automatically. If it does not, turn it on.
Wait approximately 40 seconds for the TV to completely start up.
On the TV remote control, press and hold the UP ARROW button.
While holding the UP ARROW button, press and release the POWER button on the TV set.
    Release the UP ARROW button.
NOTE: The initial setup screen displays if the above procedures were performed correctly.

  • DVD Problems NX7900gt-vt2d256e

I figure this might more relate to my graphics card than anything.
The problem is, I cant play a DVD to my HDTV.  I've tried various programs including PowerDVD 5, 6, Power Cinema 3, and WinDVD5.  When I play a DVD it either crashes the program with a memory error, or gives me a message saying my video cards TV out needs to be reconfigured.  I just spent $140 on new RAM and a new DVD drive thinking that could be the problem (both weren't "compatible" with my system so I figured that was the problem...apparently not)
My graphics card again MSI nx7900gt-vt2d256e

Sorry...yea here's the complete specs for my pc, and everything connected directly to it

I get an application error that goes something like this "Program referenced memory at abdsa120990, that memory could not be "read""
This isn't the exact message, but its something like it.  This forces the program to close, and prompts to send an error report.  This message occurs when I push play in PowerDVD 5, and PowerCinema.  In WinDVD 5 and PowerDVD 6, I get messages that go something like this:  "this dvd can not play because copy protection requires you to reconfigure the tv out on your video card".  The program closes here, but it is not an application error.  I achieve similar occurances with Windows Media Player using the respective decoders.  I get the same problems on both of my DVD drives.
Currently I am sending a cloned 1024x768 signal to my HDTV using 1080i on component Y/Pr/Pb.  I was thinking of a possible plan B (that would probably eliminate this problem completely for me).  I'm thinking of just using the second monitor out with a 15-pin VGA to 3 RCA/BNC (R/G/B with sync on G) adapter.  Only question is, do computer video cards have the capability to put the sync on the Green component?  This is a video standard we often use at the university I work at for sending high definition video, but I'm uncertain if this format can be used with computer display cards...I know it would for sure work with 5 cables (R/G/B/H/V), but I only have 6 coaxes running through my house to the TV and I need 2 of them for stereo audio.  So yea basically what I'm getting at is my TV has a 15pin RGB input on it so my TV would be viewed as a "non-tv" monitor and thus no copyright problems.  My problem is I only have the 6 coax cables to run the signal on.  Does anyone know why DVD's refuse to output to your TV anyway?  I mean if I wanted to pirate it I would just do so on my computer.  lol
