Kdm restarts after login

When I login using kdm, kdm crashes and restarts. (Only when I enter valid password - when I enter wrong password, kdm normally says "login failed")
I use kdemod.
I can start my kde using startx/startkde, but this is not what I want.
I don't even know which kind of info shoul I provide here... So which? Or what do you recommend to do.

grep kdm /var/log/messages - nothing
Xorg.0.log - no problem, i suppose. Note that when kdm restarts, X obviously restarts as well.

• Blank Screen after Login

I am having an issue with an iMac that has OS X 10.5.8 installed.
Immediately after login I get a blank wallpapered screen (wallpaper is the same as wallpaper at login) w\ cursor. ...It never goes into the desktop where there is a taskbar and desktop icons. This started happening to a couple of my desktops after I installed ESET NOD32 4.0.12 for Mac (AntiVirus).
Has anyone else seen this issue or know of a fix.

You will have to see if you can start the computer via other means,
in that if you can start in SafeBoot mode, you may be able to be rid
of that anti-virus software. That likely is the problem's main cause.
SafeBoot mode: restart, hold Shift key, until you get log-in screen;
login to get to desktop. From here, you can do a few things, but the
computer is not running at full system usefulness. You may be able
to remove this AV software, or see if it has an Uninstaller; and also
you can repair disk permissions in Disk Utility. Among other tasks.
When done, restart normally. (You could also boot from install disc
and use the menu options to run Disk Utility, and other jobs.)
If the product did not come with an Uninstaller in its software, you
may have to try & remove it by other means. These things will put
more into the computer's OS than just an item in the Utilities or
Applications folder; so an Uninstaller is likely a necessity. There
are a few shareware and free ware uninstallers, such as AppDelete
available online as downloads. If you can't find an Uninstaller in the
software you installed (may be in the app's folder in Mac) you may
have to contact the products customer support and ask how you
are to remove the entire product and its parts from your Mac.
If you are lucky, they may actually know where you could go in and
carefully remove those bits; and luckier still, if there is an uninstaller.
Good luck & happy computing!

• Session state always invalid after login

Hello community,
i have a functional login process which uses my own login with username and password. After login i branch to application start page, but this session now is different from the start login session, so every login is invalid and will branch to authentication scheme invalid page.
My login url is: f?p=100:100:123456
After correct login (i have tested in the database with a lot of inserts into tmp_table)
i want to branch with the standard login procedure wwv_flow_custom_auth_std.login() to page 1000.
The correct url is shown in the browser, but the current page is the login page 100, because (i think) the session is invalid. In the authentication theme the invalid session page is set to page 100.
I have tested several pages and always this page is branched.
So im shure, that the session state is always invalid after login.
But why ????
Has anyone an idea ?
Thank you for responding.
Frank

Hi Jari,
problem was solved.
The IE8 has cached an invalid site.
I know now were it is come from.
I have an after submit process which sets the cookie with following code:
owa_util.mime_header('text/html; charset=UTF-8;', FALSE);
owa_cookie.send(
name=>'DHW_COOKIE',
value=>utl_raw.cast_to_raw(dbms_obfuscation_toolkit.md5(input_string => ':P100_REGCODE' || :P100_USERNAME ))
owa_util.http_header_close;
But this results in display on the screen like html text without tags, so it looks like text on the screen header.
It shows "content-type=text/html charset=WINDOWS 1252 .......
The cookie is not set to the disk and now the IE8 explorer is dead.
The described problem of this thread is shown.
If you close all sessions and restart IE8 then the error is fixed.
Also i have disabled the after submit process with setting the cookie.
So i live now without having a cookie set.
Do you have any idea for this behaviour ?
Frank

• Macbook Restarts after Shutdown

hi,
just recently my macbook has been restarting after about 10-30 minutes after i shut it down. i have unchecked the 'restart after power failure' and it is not scheduled for and startups in the power saver pane in System Pref.
i was reading around and then reseted the PRAM but haven't done the SMC.
i have also just got an Elgato DTT tuner and Eye TV 3 that seems to startup at login even though i don't wont it to, are they related.
Any Ideas,
Cheers
farley

Do you use any external display?
If yes, disconnect the monitor cable prior to shutdown.

• Windows XP hard crash reboot after login

I've seen a few topics about this, but none of them with solid regression info yet so i'm starting this thread. I hope some of you out there can help out, but I fear the answer is that were all screwed.
SUMMARY:
Windows XP will hard crash (reboot) just after login after loading the UI and during the loading of network components. This then results in the system rebooting into a black screen with no standard windows debug. (which can be forced by F8) Hard shut down is required to restart boot process. This problem can also occur from a waking from sleep, and very rarely occurs at random. When its caused during normal operation its usually spawned on by pressing a button on the keyboard. It will occur randomly at startup, and will occur with Starup Disc set or Option Select. Rarely it will boot into windows XP on the first try, more often (over time) it will require 3-5 reboots to get into XP successfully. This problem isn't caused by the install of any software, instead it progressively gets worse over time. I have experienced this problem with BootCamp 1.3, 1.4 and 2.0 on my MacBook Pro 2.16, but I have never experienced it with my Mac Pro ever which has the same OS and bootcamp installed.
I'm convinced it has something to do with the network drivers and how they are loading. I've noticed that the times it fails to boot that the WiFi and Local Area network icons aren't loaded in the system tray, and the times I have success getting into XP that they are already present when the UI is loading. This same behavior occurs on my Mac Pro and other PC clones, but they dont hard crash when this occurs. On them, you just have to wait for the network to be available.
STEPS:
0) MacBook Pro 2.16 17", Mac OS X 10.5.1, Bootcamp 2.0, Windows XP Pro SP2
1) Power up
2) Hold down Option (can set bootdrive as well)
3) Select Windows
4) Select a User (with password set)
5) Enter password
RESULTS:
Hard crash reboot just after UI loads while network compoents begin to load into the system tray.
WORKAROUND:
Shoot dog
REGRESSION:
Never occures on Mac Pro
Occures with Bootcamp 1.3, 1.4 and 2.0
P.S. I'm writing this in Bootcamp

UPDATE
I've gone into msconfig and turned off everything and have been starting up just fine, so it seams one of these items is cuasing the problem. I see that some people say its the keyboard manager, and I wouldn't doubt it now. So i'm going to leave everything off for now, make sure its always booting and then slowing rool items back on. I'll keep this up to date.
If you want to do this yourself, you can do it two ways.
Built in:
1) Click on the Start Button
2) Select Run...
3) type "msconfig" and hit OK
4) Select the "Startup" tab
5) Unselect everything you see there
6) Close and reboot!
3rd party (the way i prefer)
1) Get Spybot (the new one is awesome)
2) install Spybot
3) Run Spybot
4) Update, immulize and scan (optional, but you will be surprised)
5) Select the "Mode" menu option
6) Select "Advanced mode"
7) Select 'tools" on the lower left hand side
8) Select "System Startup"
9) uncheck all options.
10) close and reboot!
Note: this appiaction is really great, and it will also install a device to watch for reg changes which is good for this sort of regression. Again, its not nessiary to install spybot, but i love it and have it on every PC i ever use and have never regretted it. IT WONT SLOW YOUR COMPUTER LIKE OTHER CRAPPY APPS. This is a very light and clean app.

• WCS error COMMON-1 after login completed

Hi Expert,
I found WCS Sytem Error Page was displayed after login completed for while. How can i fix about this? Thanks
WCS System Error Page
Error(s): You must correct following error(s) before proceeding: Error:COMMON-1: Some unexpected internal error has occured. If the problem presist please report to the Tech Support. Error:Detail: Cannot open connection

Just a heads up to anyone else that might do this... it took about 5 to 10 minutes for the 'StopWCS' process to complete.
We run Version 7.0.172.0 on a Windows Server 2003 VM.
We initially tried restarting the service from Windows Services (services.msc) - made no difference - had to run the stopWCS and startWCS programs in the installation folder.
NOTE: after launching the exe from the program files\WCSxxx\bin\ folder - it took a few moments and a Java console window appeared. It then spewed out the following over the space of 5 to 10 minutes...
"Stopping Health Monitor...
Waiting for shutdown to complete.
Health Monitor successfully shutdown.
Stopping WCS server
WCS server successfully shutdown.
Waiting for shutdown to complete.
Shutting down database server ...
Database server successfully shutdown.
Apache server is stopped.
WCS successfully shutdown."
The startup process was much quicker... taking no more than 5 minutes if that.
Again, after launching the exe from windows explorer - it took a little while for the java window to appear - it then quite quickly (compared with shutdown) produced the following output.
"Starting WCS
This may take a few minutes...
Starting Apache...
Starting Apache server ...
Apache server is running.
WCS started successfully."
And yeah - it resolved the issue for us too - many thanks.

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

• Macbook pro freezes after login

I have a mid-2010 MacBook Pro 15" with a Core i7 2.66GHz processor. Sometime after upgrading to Lion, I started getting the spinning beachball of death just after login. Unlike many posts about freezes on similar MacBook Pros, mine is not freezing before login, but after. I start the machine, login, and then if I try to open any application, the beachball appears and I have to do a hard shutdown with the power button. Then if I restart again, it is usually fine. I was able to fix this problem some time ago by deleting a preference file (plist) for one of my apps (I think), but the problem has surfaced again and I cannot remember how to correct this. Anyone having similar problems, please let me know if you've had any luck fixing it. I am running 10.7.3 (in fact, it seems like the problem may have resurfaced just after the update to 10.7.3, but I'm not sure.)
FYI, I have auto graphics switching off and am still experiencing this problem.

Don't worry about the auto graphics switching. Go to "Users & Groups" in system preferences. Then click on login items and removes all of them. I haven't pinned down exactly which one was causing the problem but I suspect it was one associated with my HP printer. I have verified that Dropbox and Magic Menu from StuffIt are OK to leave in the login items. Just remove what you have there and add them back in one at time (if you can't live without them) until it starts to give you trouble again. Let me know if this helps.

• After Installing Leopard Finder Crashes directly after Login

Hi,
i Installed Leopard on my MacBook Core 2 Dual. After install the Macbook worked fine for a while (ca. 30 Minutes) then it crashed and asked me to reboot by pressing the power on key a while. But after restart and login it crashes again, and again, and again.
So i tried booting in save mode ... (pressing shift while boot) ... now i can login, but what now?
I started to look around in the system and step by step deinstall every app that may interfere with leopard. But no success up to now. Each time i boot normally it crashes again.
Does anybody else had the same problem ?
And maybe found what's causing this problem.
Thanks in advance.

OK, its coming up now ...
deinstalled:
VMWare Fusion
NDAS Driver
Little Snitch 2.0 beta 10
3D Desktop Aquarium ScreenSaver
collection of plasq Screensavers
ToasterClone Screensaver
Parallels Extensions from StartupItems Folder
not an idea at the moment which of them was the bad guy,
but i will find out
@Sebastian try disabling those above if you have installed ones of them an come back posting if that helped

• Mavericks white screen after login

After upgrading to Mavericks my MacBook now goes to a white screen after login screen. Anybody having same issue? Any solutions?

Reinstalling Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

• Outlook 2010 RPC over HTTP to Exchange 2003 users remain disconnected after login

Greetings Guys,
I am unable to find a solution, Windows 2003 DC, Exchange 2003, all user were working great, RPC over HTTP, until Tuesday at about the same time perhaps before the MS update KB3002657
all remote users using outlook 2010 did not have authentication popups as was noted from this KB. But instead all login successfully, ( looking at the security logs in the exchange) , but all are remaining disconnected, immediately after login.
The users had already been configured with the registry DefConnectOpts RPC key, so I doubt their Outlook profiles are the problem.
I suspect the DC's ( we have 2 ) or the exchange have picked up an issue. I am out of ideas.
Any help would be awesome
Barry

Hi,
According to your description, I understand that Outlook(Outlook Anywhere) client display disconnected after install MS update KB3002657.
If I misunderstand your concern, please do not hesitate to let me know.
KB3002657 is a security update to prevent attacker logging on to a domain-joined system and being able to monitor network traffic. More details about this update, please refer to:
https://technet.microsoft.com/library/security/ms15-027
For your question, please try to reconfigure a Outlook profile for testing.
If it works, you can try to below steps to pop sign in page in Outlook client:
1. Open Outlook---> File and click “Account setting”, then select account name and click “Change”.
2. Click “More settings”, switch “Security” and check “Always Prompt for logon credentials”。
3. Restart Outlook to login your account.
Once this done, you can uncheck this setting for convenience.
Besides, I find an similar thread about your question, for your reference:

• Screen is Black after login on Windows Server 2012r2 Standard

I got a call from the client saying they logged into the server and now it only shows a black screen. I then RDP into it and sure enough, after login there is just a black screen. I searched around and found thread that had a link to a hotfix that will stop
this from happening. I applied the fix and restarted and thought all was well until this morning when I got a call that the server was acting weird.
I RDP in again and black screen. I RDP into the VM and then into the main server and still black screen. On top of that 2 windows 7 workstations were getting the black screen after logging in. 1 user had it then after 5 or 10 min the desktop just appeared.
The then logged into a workstation at their office to try and RDP into the server and I get this black screen after logging in, 5min later the desktop shows up. Not sure what is going on but it is very frustrating. Also when this happens on the server Nothing
can be done besides a hard shutdown which I don't like doing every other week.
Any ideas? Is it somehow related to the workstations also having the same issues???

Any ideas???? Here are a few articles but nothing else seems to be working regardless of numerous workarounds.

• Banking web site after login fails to display properly and says I need to have CSS enabled. Can't find how to do that.

Running FF 5.0 on Win XP Pro. Several web sites stopped displaying properly overnight without a computer shutdown or FF shutdown. One of the sites is a banking site which displayed normally until after login when it failed to display and there was a message saying best viewed with CSS turned on. I've restarted both FF and then the computer and FF to no avail. Tried both No Style and Basic Style Views with no change. Did not do a power off full computer shutdown and restart yet. Has only happened in FF 5.0. Never happened in previous versions.

• User Stuck at Applying User Setting after Login

I have windows server 2008r2 remote desktop environment. All my users stuck at Applying User Setting after login. I disabled remote desktop network interface for some time, then enabled and all fine. Checked logs in detail and nothing unusual found.
Could anyone assist to avoid recurrence of issue.
Rox_Star

Hi,
Thanks for your comment.
Sorry for late response. How is everything going on?
Does both the issue happens on same server? Is that same server with domain joined?
The above question relates to your other post.
Server stucks at Applying Computer Settings after every reboot
From the issue it seems that DNS server is not getting properly communicate for the server and due to that reason you are getting slow connection response from the DC to connect. If you are using DHCP in your network, you need to check the DHCP server setting
also for properly assigned IP address to the server. You can run “ipconfig /all” and check the DNS setting on your affected server.
In addition to above one, you can edit the registry setting for a test and check the result.
1. Open registry editor with regedit
2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HTTP
3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click
Multi-string Value.
4. Type DependOnService, and then press ENTER.
5. Right-click DependOnService, and then click Modify.
6. In the Value data box, type CRYPTSVC, and then click OK.
7. Exit Registry Editor.
8. Restart the computer.
Actually there is Hotfix (KB 2379016) for server 2008 but you can try this solution for server 2008 R2.
Hope it helps!
Thanks.
