KEC3 - New currency translation type

Hi,
I am trying to create a Currency translation type in KEC3 with time dimension 5 'For exact date' and field name BUDAT "Posting date" . But when I save the new entry the system displays error KH297 - Field is not a characteristic.
Which could be the problem?
Thank you very much

Hi
Posting date is the date which we give and which is not available in the structure SYST.
Try the option - 5 in "Time: Curr. tr." above the Inversin flag.
1 Fiscal year closing
2 End of period
3 Beginning of period
4 End of week
5 For exact day

• Currency Translation Type in queries using currency conversion

I have a question on the Currency Translation Type (EUR_VAR) that is used in all of the queries using currency conversion on the fly. (currency is maintained automatically nor in table.)
User wants to use 2 different exchange rates in a single query. The months in 2010 (Actuals) are to
be converted using Xchangerate-type EURO and the months in 2011 (Planned) to use Xchangerate-type USD.
But store different rates with different starting dates. This is however not possible because the Currency Translation
Type is set-up (1) to work with Query Key date - rather than a characteristic in the data and (2) apparently these
currency translation types only work with time characteristics like 0fiscyear
My idea is therefor to:
1. Create a new variable (similar to EXC_RATE) to prompt for a 2nd Exchange Rate type when query starts
2. Create a new Currency Translation Type (next to EUR_VAR), referencing the new variable or sticking to fixed Xrate type, fixed to EUR
Is this possible to create Idea (2)
Many Thanks in Advance.

The best way would be to create two curr conversion types , one converting to EUR and other to USD .Put them in properties of coressponding KFs in query. For timref in RSCUR , variable time ref can be used individually for two conv types.

• S_ALR_87012168 currency translation type

In this report S_ALR_87012168 - Due Date Analysis for Open Items you can select a translation key "currency translation type"
How you know wat is what ? is there a table / transaction where you can see this?

Hi,
In this report S_ALR_87012168 - Due Date Analysis for Open Items you can select a Currency & translation key "currency translation type". That means in which currency user want to see the open items of Receivables. You have to mentioned the Translation type also, because the selling rate/buying rate may be different for different currencies. Standard SAP gives a lot of options to select for currency translation type.
Hope i clarified your doubt.

• Currency Translation Type - Problem with Posting Period (0FISCPER3)

Hi Gurus,
We are currently working on an Implementation project in Integrated Planning (BI 7.0) and are having issues with Currency Conversion for each Month. The requirement is that Client will maintain Currency Exchange rates on a month on month basis for Exchange rate type P.
In all the Info providers we have used Posting Period 0FISCPER3 as a Time characteristic and NOT 0FISCPER ( Fiscal Year / Period ). Eventhough 0FISCPER appears as a Standard time characteristic in all Info providers , we have not even considered the same in all the Aggregation levels.
When we are now defining a Currency Translation Type thru RSCUR transaction , we select Variable Time Reference as "Beginning of Period" and the ONLY Standard Info Object available there is 0FISCPER and not the Posting Period 0FISCPER3.
Is there anyway that we can include 0FISCPER3 also as a Standard Info Object !!!!! If not , is there any way out ..... Do we have to include 0FISCPER necessarily as a characteristic in the Aggregation Level ? Please advise.
Regards,
Venkat.

Hi,
In the IP modeler you can also use the FOX formula for conversion.
CURC(<amount>, <d>, <exchange rate type>, <curr_from>, <curr_to>)
This reads the RSCUR table, and you can write your own date from fiscal or calander. So it is most flexibel.
Maybe this helps.

Which should be chosen..?? for the 0MEANDAILY . From Anurag's post it's evident that this is a part of the BC and being an info object it's not populated by transferring Global data. Please explain
Anurag,

• Currency translation type NOT appearing in BEX

Hi All,
I'm having trouble displaying the currency translation type in BEX after running the query. When I use the context menu for 'Currency Translation', I do not see the desired curr tran types in the drop down list. They are available in the Query Designer but not after I've executed the query.
I also noticed that the ones that ARE available all have 'Fixed time ref' or 'Query key date' in the Time ref. The ones I would like to view have a 'Variable Time Ref' but not sure why this is causing a problem. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Senthil

Hi Senthil,
I believe this is happening because when you have run the report and got data, it means that this data refers to a particular time. If BEx allows you a variable time reference for the currency conversion, after the report has been run taking into account a different time...I am not sure if it would make sense...

• Currency translation type

Dear All,
I am working in BW 3.5 server environent.
Now there is a requirement to convert all the local currency to USD. So report must have the local currency as well as USD currency values.
Background:-
User will give the exchange rate in the flat file. Exchange rate logic will be like if the posting period is between some range then use exchange rate1 and if the posting period is between some other range then use exchange rate 2.
Now in 3.5 we can achieve this by creating currency translation type. But i dont know the procedure properly. N also how can i specify this rule in the currency translatio type.
I have created one more object which will hold the dollar values.
Need your help in this.
Thanks & Rgds,
Anup

Hey Anup..
in 3.X envinment you can use transaction RRC1-Create,RRC2-- Change ane RRC3--Display Currency translation type.
while creating Currency translation type.
Select Exchange rate--- Monthly
Select Source Curr---- Souce.Curr from data record
Fixed Target Curr-- USD
variable Time reference-- give -posting period infoobject.
Now maintain records in TCURR for that particular selected Exchange rate, for the month of April 2008Rate 1 and June 2008 Rate2.
In query designer , select that newly created Currency translation type for the required column.
It will work fine.
Pls let me know in case of any queries.

• Show Currency Translation Type

Hi,
I don't know if it's possible but I want to see te currency translation type that I use in a query. For example, If a user make a currency translation it's possible to catch the currency and the currency translation type that he choose and show them :
- in the title ?
- in a column or in a text item of my default web template ?
Thanks for your help
Aleksi

Hi,
The parameters that determine the exchange rate are the source and target currencies, exchange rate type and the time reference for the translation.
To define a translation type you have to define the exchange rate type, the time reference, and how and when the inverse exchange rate is used. Entering the target currency is optional.
● Exchange rate type: The exchange rate type distinguishes between exchange rates that are valid in the same time frame, for example, the bid rate, ask rate or middle rate. The exchange rate types are stored in a central table (TCURV) and can by maintained in Customizing using BI Customizing Implementation Guide ® General Settings ® Currencies ® Check Currency Types. Alternatively you can specify any variable that exists for InfoObject 0RTYPE.
● Inverse exchange rate: You can choose whether the inverse exchange rate is to be used for the translation type. If you choose translation with the inverse exchange rate, then the reverse exchange rate is used in the relevant translation from one currency to another. Translation using the inverse exchange rate is useful, for example, when values from the original documents have been translated before being saved in the data targets and you want to restore the original values.
You have maintained the following exchange rates:
EUR ® USD 0.940
USD ® EUR 1.070
When translating from USD to EUR using the inverse exchange rate, a rate of 1/0.940 = 1.064 is used and not a rate of 1.070.
● Source currency: The source currency is the currency that is to be translated. You have the following options:
○ The source currency is determined dynamically using the data record. This is always the case when you perform currency translation in the Business Explorer.
○ The source currency is determined dynamically using a specified InfoObject (characteristic). During the data load process, the source currency can be determined either using the data record or a specified characteristic bearing master data (see example: Defining Target Currencies Using InfoObjects. Determining the source currency using an InfoObject is performed in the same way).
○ You can use a fixed source currency in planning functions. Data records with the same currency key as the source currency are translated.
○ You can specify any variable that exists for InfoObject 0CURRENCY. You can also use these options in planning functions.
● Target currency:
To determine the target currency, you have the following options:
○ You can establish that the target currency be determined upon translation. In the Query Designer under the properties for the relevant key figure, you specify either a fixed target currency or a variable to determine the target currency.
○ You can enter a fixed target currency (for example, ‘EUR’).
○ You can specify any variable that exists for InfoObject 0CURRENCY.
○ In the currency translation type, you can specify an InfoObject which is used to determine the target currency upon translation. In characteristic maintenance on the Tab Page: Business Explorer, you have to determine a currency attribute. For more information, see the example under Defining Target Currencies Using InfoObjects. If the Only Use in Transformation indicator is set, you can also enter InfoObjects that do not have a currency attribute set in InfoObject maintenance. InfoObjects that are entered here have to be available in the source and contain a currency as an attribute.
○ You can specify an InfoSet: This is only necessary if you are determining the target currency using an InfoObject that exists in the InfoSet more than once. You enter the field alias so that the InfoObject can be specified uniquely.
● Time reference: The time reference for the currency translation can be either fixed or variable.
If the time reference is fixed, the time at which the exchange rate is determined is independent of the data. You have the following options:
○ You can establish that the time reference be determined upon translation.
○ You can select the current date.
○ You can specify a fixed date as the key date.
○ You can specify any variable that exists for InfoObject 0DATE.
○ You can establish that the query key date be used. This is determined in the query settings.
If the time reference is variable, the time at which the exchange rate is determined is decided by a time characteristic value.
○ A variable time reference can, for example, be determined using the end or start of a fiscal year or calendar year, a period and a month – or even to the exact day. The following standard time characteristics are available: 0FISCYEAR, 0FISCPER, 0CALYEAR, 0CALQUARTER, 0CALMONTH, 0CALWEEK and 0CALDAY.
○ The time reference can also be determined using a customer-specific InfoObject of type date (for example, trading day). Note that this InfoObject has to have the same properties as the standard InfoObject selected in the variable time reference or must reference it.
○ You can specify an InfoSet: This is only necessary if you are determining the target currency using an InfoObject that exists in the InfoSet more than once. You enter the field alias so that the InfoObject can be specified uniquely.
In the Business Explorer, you can only set time variable currency translations in query definition, and not for an executed query. See also Setting Variable Target Currency in the Query Designer.
○ In the Time Adjustment field of type INT4, you can specify whole numbers with a +/- sign.
○ In the Time Adjustment from Variable field, you can specify formula variables (1FORMULA). As these values of the variables may have to be whole numbers, they are rounded to whole numbers (integers) where necessary.
The time adjustment (regardless of whether it is fixed or variable) is always related to the InfoObject specified under Variable Time Reference.
Example of a time adjustment of -3:
The variable time reference is To the exact day and the InfoObject under Variable Time Reference is 0CALDAY. Instead of 07.11.2006, after the time adjustment, 04.11.2006 is used for the translation.
The variable time reference is End of Week and the InfoObject under Variable Time Reference is 0CALWEEK. Instead of 52.2004, the week 49.2004 is calculated and the end date is calculated from this.

• Currency translation type to be created

Hi
need to create the currency translation type where we need to convert the data stored in local currency in the real time cube using the exchange rate type and excahnge rate and all other details stored in another std cube . And excahnge rate type and excahnge rate are customised objects not referencing to std objects and not the standards. The real time cube and the exchange rate cube is connected to the multiprovider. We have created the aggregation level on top of multiprovider.
Can we use still RSCUR to create the currency translation type to read the data from the excahnge rate cube during query run time to calculate the target currency.
Tried to use the currency translation from the planning workbench but it still asks for the currency conversion type.
Please advise
Kind Regards,
Sarah

Hi
You need to use any one of the Standard Currency Conversion Types provided by SAP--B/G/M/P. Generally 'P' is used for Planning purposes.
You can also create user defined CC Types. You need to maintain that. If you get in touch with any FICO consultant at your location....he/she will guide you appropriately.

• BI Planning modeler - Currency translation type not available

Hi there,
I have a problem with the BI Planning modeler and the standard currency translation formula.
I want to use a currency type from TCURR the the type is EURZ. This type is not available, how do I get it in the Currency translation type ???
Thx in advance
Carsten

Hi,
You can also check your currency exchange rates in the following way,
Go to transaction SPRO -> SAP reference IMG -> SAP Netweaver -> General Settings -> Currencies -> Enter Exchange Rates
One more thing you need to make sure is to use a currency in Currency translation planning function, you have to have a exchange rate created in transaction RSCUR for the conversion that you are performing.
For example, if you want to convert 'USD' to 'EUR' you have to have an exchange that defines this conversion appropriately.
For this you can refer to the link mentioned by Deepti above.

• F4 help not showing for currency translation types

Friends,
I have a scenario where I need to convert currencies in my query based of different tranlastion types. I maintained a variable in RRC1 and it's working fine when I execute the query. It asks for the variable - shows different available options under F4 help and calculates the results as expected.
Now the problem I am facing ....
When I have exceuted the query and want to select a different translation type using context menu on any amount field, it gives me only one option "Average rate for the current date". I am expecting all the available translation types to choose from, here as well.
Can someone help me with that?

• Display selected currency translation type in BEX webappl report

Hi everybody,
we use currency translation at query runtime. We do not select the translation type in the variable screen but use the possibility with Context menu -> Calculations and Translations -> Global Currency Translation
Everything works fine, the conversion is done correctly BUT I want somehow display the selected tranlation type on the report! Is this possible? As I know there is the possibility in web applications to call a class method at runtime, maybe there exists a function module or class which can return the actual translation type used.
There must be something like that because when I select the context menu "Gloabl Currency Translation" again a second time, the actual translation type is selected in the combo box.
We also need the information on the generated pdf dokuments.
Thanks for any hints!
Regards

Dear Oskar,
have you found a way to display the currency translation info in web report? Or could somebody give me enlightment whether this is possible? Thank you in advance.

• Dynamic determination of currency translation type

Dear all,
we have a requirement for some reports in Business Warehouse (NetWeaver 7.3) regarding the currency conversion type. In the Report a rolling forecast (always starting with the actual period) with one key figure (e.g. Price) shall be analyzed. The issue is the following: The actual period should use Translation Type A, the following periods, till end of Fiscal Year, Translation Type B and the rest Translation type C.
Example Structure:
Drilldown to Period
03.2014 (actual Month)
06.2014
12.2014
01.2015
05.2015
Key Figure
Price
Price
Price
Price
Price
Price
Price
Translation Type
TT-A
TT-B
TT-B
TT-C
TT-C
Now, is it possible somehow to determine in one key figure the Translation type dynamicaly using the Option "Ex. rate type from variable" in the rscur Transaction.
Our main issue here would be the connection between the time reference and the Translation type.
Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi,
thank you for your fast answer. We use different Translation types for actual data, forecast and plan data. (MBW, FBW and PBW).
Therefore in our example, MBW will be used for all actual Prices, FBW for all forecast-prices and PBW for all plan-Prices.
Forecast-Prices are valid for the actual Fiscal Year (but future periods), Plan Prices are valid for all future Fiscal Years.
E.g.:
Actual Period is 06.2014: MBW
From Period 07.2014 to 12.2014: FBW
From Period 01.2015: PBW.
Now we need a report with a rolling forecast from actual period to actual period + 17.
The report should look exemplary for this month as following:
Key Figure
Price (06.2014)
Price (07.2014)
Price (12.2014)
Price (01.2015)
Price (02.2015)
Used
translation type
MBW
FBW
FBW
PBW
PBW
Material 1
value
value

value
value
value
Material 2
value
value
value
value
value

The issue we have would be, that due to the dynamic structure of a rolling forecast, a fixed key figure structure (one Price key figure for each period) with directly assigned translation variables is impossible.
I hope that this example is clearer. If you have of course any additional questions, please dont hesitate to ask.
