Keep 2 versions of iPhoto after iPhoto 08 update

hello,
I am in need of some help, I would like to keep two versions of iPhoto on my computer. I installed iLife 08 and iMovie kept the older version (for obvious reasons), but can the same be done with iPhoto - I work in a training facility and some people come in for training that own an older version, so it's a pain to have to explain what's in their version and what's not.
THanks for any help.
Chris

Yes it is, but it may be a bit tricky to install now that you've already installed v7.
You'll need to delete all the pkg folders in HD/Library/ Receipts that have iPhoto in the name and then install. Make sure you put it in a different folder than v7. Also, v6 will NOT be able to open v7 libraries, so keep those apart too.
Regards

Perhaps check to see if you're accidentally running two different versions of iTunes. There's some information on troubleshooting that in the Opening iTunes section of the following document:

  • I have to turn off 3G ntework to keep my Iphone 3G alive after 3.1 update.

I never used tethering or jailbreak on my iphone 3G. However, I got punished by Apple for not doing that!
After 3.1 update, my iphone 3G got a serious problem. It can not make/receive any phone calls, browse internet, and play internet-based games after sitting idle for a while (i.e I do not use it for 30 minutes).
To get it back to alive again, I have to do a hard reset. I missed many important calls and reset my iphone about 8 times every day in the past few days.
    Called AT&T:
They had no clue about it. Asked me to do a hard reset first, then performed a network test on my iphone. They said "everything works just fine, case closed!" **** it,I told that useless CS at least three times that the problem comes after sitting idle for a while. If I perform a hard reset, everything will be back to normal temporally.
    Called Apple:
They ssked me to restore it first. I spent several hours to back up and restore my Iphone 3G. Problem not fixed at all. Apple, you own me 4 hours here.
They also suggested me to have Apple store technician take a look. But the only store in Indiana is closed for remodeling and will be open again in two weeks.
    Called Apple again:
This time, they acknowledged the issue. They said their developers are working on this issue. A new update will be out in 2-4 weeks. The only solution they offered is hard reset. Useless!
    Me:
I did some research online, figure out that the problem has something to do with the 3G network. If I disable the 3G network in the Setting, my iphone works just fine(of course, no more 3G speed).
Apple, please recall your 3.1 update! I just want 3.01 back, or fix the issue now. Is that too much to ask?
I hope that I can get an acceptable answer in this forum.

With all the problems I have read with the 3.1, the best thing to do is go back to download 3.0.1 and install through iTunes. Here is the link to all of the hardware:
    http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/
If you don't know how to do this, I will guide you so you don't have to deal with 3.1 until all the problems have been solved.

You have a couple choices to fall-back on Pages '09. Be sure to export all Pages v5 created documents to Pages  '09 format.
App Store downloads can be moved between computers Applications folders
The iWork '09 applications are no longer available from Apple as downloads, or DVD sets.
Move Pages '09 v4.2 or later from an older machine onto your primary Mac.
Move any templates in home/Library/Application Support/iWork/Pages/Templates/My Templates
iWork '09 DVD installs are a reinstallation on the new Mac, followed immediately with the Apple 9.3 updater. The DVD applications will not work without the specified updater which brings versions to latest releases.
You must not apply the Apple 9.3 updater to applications downloaded from the OS X App Store.

Yes, it is directly related to j'breaking it.  And as such, you will get no further support from Apple and we cannot help you either.  Use an internet search to try to find a solution elsewhere.

  • Iphoto not Updating to version 9.6 after Yosemite install

I installed Yosemite over Mavericks, my current system. My version of iPhoto never updated from 9.5.1 to Version 9.6. When I go to the App store and bring up the iPhoto app to update it gives me the option to "Open", but not update. I select "Open" and my iPhoto version 9.5.1 opens. I remove iPhoto 9.5.1 from my drive and went back to the App store. I still only had the option of "Open" when I brought up the iPhoto App. I then selected "Open" and nothing happens. When I select the "Updates" pane in the App store, it shows that I Updated to iPhoto 9.6 on November 13th. No mater where Ii look, I'm unable to find my upgraded version. I've had Apple and Mac since time began, so I'm not new at this. I feel like I'm missing something.
How do I update to iPhoto version 9.6?

When I go to the App store and bring up the iPhoto app to update it gives me the option to "Open", but not update. I select "Open" and my iPhoto version 9.5.1 opens.
9.5.1 won't open on Yosemite. It seems like you did update. I'd ask this on the App Store forum as that seems to be the where the problem lies.

  • I get a message that my photo library needs to be upgraded and my photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iphoto after the upgrade.  I don't dare do anything.  Please help

I keep getting a message when I try to open iphoto that says that my photo library needs to be upgraded and my library will not be readable by previous versions of iphoto after the upgrade.  What do I do??

Depends - you first off need to suypply us with information since we only know what you tell us
Like what version of iPhoto are you using? Have you recently installed any iPhoto (or iLife) updates or upgrades? Do you plan to use this iPhoto library with two or more different versions of iPhoto (no possible so stop now if you do)? Where is your iPhoto library?
Anything else that you can tell us that might let us give you a good answer to your question

  • Issues with iphoto after hard drive failure - message "library was created with an unreleased version of iphoto"

I have a late model 2008 13" MacBook that was running OS X 10.5.8 when the hard drive failed 2 weeks ago when I was traveling in Canada. I found a Mac repair centre and they replaced my 250GB with a 500GB hard drive and transferred my data.  (Yeah!!!) I'm now on OS X 10.6.8 (which is great as I guess I should be able to sync my iphone on IOS 7 with my laptop again.... but I digress...)
I haven't been able to access my photos as I get the message "The photo library was created with an unreleased version of iphoto. Please quit and upgrade this photo library by opening it in iphoto 2 or iphoto 4" when I try to open it.  I can see my photos when I look on Photo Browser in Mail so that's good - they are here...  I looked through past messages with this problem and saw that the advise was to download iphoto Library Manager.  I want to be certain I don't mess anything up so the questions are:
    1. What version of iphoto Library Manager should I download - I had OS X 10.5.8 and my iphoto library was ... (sorry - can't find out what it was, guess it's now 7.1.5)
    2. What do I do after I've downloaded IPLM?
Many thanks ahead of time for any assistance

I backed up my iPhoto Library to an external drive even though it looked way to small to hold all my photos.  I have tried several times to open iPhoto whilst depressing the option and command keys but get the same message again:
"The photo library was created with an unreleased version of iphoto. Please quit and upgrade this photo library by opening it in iphoto 2 or iphoto 4"  Behind this, the little wheel is turning and it says "Loading Photos" (but it doesn't).
I've got to access these photos for a project deadline that's looming so any help would be really appreciated.

It does not give me a choice, it just says quit or upgrade? p.s. i didn't realise ther was  a way to back up my computer beforehand, which i am guessing this is time machine?

    1. No, you haven't.
    2. Back up the iPhoto library(this can be done through Time Machine or by dragging it to a drive, partition, or disk image formatted as Mac OS Extended) and then click Upgrade.
    3. Aside from Time Machine and drag-copying items from your home folder, programs such as the Disk Utility, Carbon Copy Cloner, and SuperDuper can make backups.

My albums and slideshows disappeared from the left column when I ejected a Canon camera after a download.  My version of iPhoto '08 (V7.1.5(378)) had just crashed when I first connected the Canon camera to download.  I restarted iPhoto.....successfully downloaded 22 photos, and ejected Canon camera, upon which albums & slideshows highlighted blue and disappeared from the left column.  The photos still seem to be under the EVENTS and PHOTOS in the LIBRARY.  Any thoughts?

    Restore from your back up.

  • Iphoto doesn't ask me if i would like to keep the photos i import on my camera or if i would like to delete them? how do i get it to ask? newest version of iphoto. iPhoto '11, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

iphoto doesn't ask me if i would like to keep the photos i import on my camera or if i would like to delete them? how do i get it to ask? newest version of iphoto. iPhoto '11, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • Can I revert back to an older version of iphoto after having updated my iphoto?

can I revert back to an older version of iphoto after having updated my iphoto?

Not unless you saved a copy of the old iPhoto Library. Otherwise, you can't go back.
