Keep airdrop open?

Is there any way to keep airdrop open? My wife's computer on the other side of the room, for example, I can see no problem in Airdrop. As soon as she closes the finder window that's displaying the Airdrop though she disappears from my Airdrop list. Is the only way around this to open an Airdrop finder window, then minimize it 'forever'? It would be just convenient to not have to walk over to her computer every time I want to transfer a file, open Airdrop, then walk back and transfer.
Or am I missing something?

Well, the intention was that Airdrop would be a temporary, ad-hoc file transfer method. In fact, that's exactly what it does - it doesn't use any existing network connections (wired / wireless) but instead creates its own wireless link to the destination computer.
If you're permanently on the same network as someone else, and have a trusted connection, you only have to set up file sharing once, and can then create a server or folder shortcut in your Dock or desktop. You don't have to authenticate each time. Or, as I say, use the dropbox folder in the Public folder, to avoid having to authenticate.
Or use DropCopy or DropBox, if you'd prefer

In System Preferences > Mission Control, uncheck mark Displays have seperate windows. This should bring you back to the secondary display you had before the upgrade. You may have to open Mail, the first time and place it on your secondary display. You also won't have the advantages of the dock and menus on the secondary display.
I keep my own secondary display with these settings because I need the ability to expand a window across both displays.

Yes, yes, I know, it's not good to keep applications open when they aren't designed to be. I'm sure Firefox has some memory leaks and this is doing more harm than good, but...
My computer isn't the greatest out there, and to increase the usability of my Firefox browser it would be nice to keep the firefox.exe process open, even after closing all windows. I know Firefox doesn't totally close if there is at least one Firefox-related window open, but having to open X popup window seems a bit extreme to get this effect.
Additionally, to allow another window to be opened, it would be cool for the "OH NO FIREFOX IS STILL OPEN" prompts to be replaced with just attempting to open a new window, if this feature is enabled.
So, if it exists already, is there a config variable for it, and if it doesn't exist, is it possible to perform somehow? I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty if it comes to it; I'd really like to get this happening.
I'm running Windows 7 Home, if it matters. (I'd rather be running another OS, but this is neither the time nor place...)

ITunes keeps re-opening

Every time I quit iTunes at the moment, it just keeps re-opening itself...any ideas how to stop this?

I've noticed a similar problem, though it occurs with only one account on our iMac. I've searched the knowledge base and forums and cannot find an answer. The problem occurs with my daughter's account (a limited account), and when she logs in, iTunes opens automatically. If she closes iTunes, it stays closed, but will reopen with each log in. No other account is so affected.
There are no widgets activated on my daughter's account, nor have there even been any activated. The iTunes widget is not activated on any other user account. I removed the iTunes Helper from among the log in items. I've looked through the iTunes preferences, and cannot find anything regarding the program automtically opening on log in.
Do you, or anyone for that matter, have any other suggestions?

When you have completed design your form on design tab, you may open form to filling out and submit. At this time, if you don’t change your form, it will keep the open state. if you change or edit your form, it will showing a warning dialog to let you know form will be changed to closed, and remind you to open it again.

Odds are only someone that develops apps for iOS would have access to whatever this is and, even then, this information may still not be available.
I would do a backup of your phone & then erase it and restore from the backup to see if the odd behavior goes away. If so, something went funny with your update the first time around. If not, there's something in your backup that's making the phone throw a fit.
I resolved my battery issues (more or less) by disabling the "set date/time automatically" setting. I haven't re-enabled it yet but my battery life has been much better with it off.

Usually, after opening Firefox, to check my Yahoo mail, I log in with my password, and mark the little box in front of KEEP ME OPEN, I can check my mail, and then close Firefox. Whenever I open Firefox, I can access my Yahoo mail account without typing my password. It stays open for 2 weeks. From yesterday, whenever I close Firefox, to access my mail account, I must log in again no matter whatever I've tried such as: Tools-Options-Security-Saved Password, or log out, then log in, type PW, mark little box to KEEP ME OPEN. I even uninstall Firefox, restart, download and re-install Firefox 8.0. The problem can never be solved. It's very annoying to log in by typing again and again my PW. Please help me out since I don't know what causes this problem. Thanks everybody who can help me out.

Benji, I did get the email server error message again last night around 8PM, but again the email does eventually go. Wondering if the 6PM to 9PM time frame is a busy time for Yahoo email servers and somehow our iTouch or portable devices take a lower priority? I seem to get the error only once a day now around that time, then everything seems fine again...could be a server issue.
Still looking for a pattern with the blank white web pages when I try and view a previous web page. Seems to happen most when I look at the "iPod touch User Guide" (on the included bookmarks)...most of the other times the previous web page loads fine so....humm....
I also had an issue with the Camera app today, the red light button and Picture/Video switch were staying dimmed...finally turned off the iTouch (holding down the Home button then pressing the Sleep/Off button on top) then turned it back on, so the iOS could reboot. That fixed the Camera app. Might want to try that too....seems like it might be a fix for a few things, especially after updating to iOS 4.2.1...

Keeping widgets open

I am sure this has been answered somewhere but I can't find it.
How do I keep widgets open on desktop in Leopard? I know how in Tiger but it doesn't work in 10.5 I have also tried TinkerTool to no avail. Even the Radio widget stops playing when the widgets clear. I just want to be able to keep widgets open above open apps like before. Thanks for you help.

If this does not work then probably something is corrupted on your system. I also have an iMac 24" running 10.5.2 and routinely drag widgets out of my dashboard layer using the dev mode and have used HoverDash in the past. Both work great. <- it is useful to know that it works for others because if it works for most people it's very likely there is only something wrong that is specific to your computer.
p.s. to make things clear do widgets run fine when in the dashboard layer?

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed the "VSearch" trojan. Remove it as follows.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. These instructions are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Step 1
From the Safari menu bar, select
          Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot," "Trovi," or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Reset the home page and default search engine in all the browsers, if it was changed.
Step 2
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
          Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "com.vsearch.agent.plist" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:

Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the Internet criminal behind VSearch has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
          Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

Siri keeps popping open when I am trying to listen to voicemail messages. It won't play the voicemail and Siri continues to open every time I try and access the message. ?

Quite often when I access voicemail on my screen, I hit "Play" the message, Siri opens up. I try and close it down and hit play again and it keeps popping open.

I am also noticing my voicemails are severly delayed in showing up as messages on my phone. Sometimes a few days later it will show i have a vm and when I listen to it, it was recorded 48 hours earlier. This is not consistent but intermittent.

This bug really needs to be fixed! As soon as you tap the VM Play button, Siri should be deactivated! It works that way when you're on a call after all: I never have Siri interrupt the start of a call.
The bug is this: Siri DOES deactivate, but there's a delay: you have to wait a little after hitting Play before it becomes "Siri-safe." How long to wait? Wait too long and you miss the start of the message, or wonder whether you might have. Wait too little and Siri pops up--including making the Siri chime when your phone is on vibrate! (Nice way to get glares in a library.) This not a guessing game we should have to play.
Disabling Siri raise-to-speak entirely is workaround, but shouldn't be needed. I'd rather not give up that feature, flawed though it may be.

In addition, it renders the iPhone totally useless to anyone who doesn't know your Apple ID and password.

When I open certain websites I use frequently(like financial trading sites), they seem to close automatically after about an hour. How do I keep them open until I decide to close them?

I recently installed 4.01. Now when I open Firefox, it only seems to stay open for about an hour or so, and then closes automatically.
How do I fix this and keep it open?

That may have been coded on those websites and is done automatically via JavaScript. If it didn't happen previously then it is possible that the used code doesn't work in previous Firefox version. Many of such sites do that and one hour looks to me as already quite long if you leave a page unattended.
