Keep choosen language during login in Portal 9.0.4

Hello
In Portal 9.0.4 the language will switch after a login to the default language defined in your browser settings. It seems that this behavior is new in Portal 9.0.4.
Our problem:
============
We have some public pages and some available only for authenticated users. All the pages are available in multiple languages, even the public ones. So, if a user first looks at the public pages and changes for this the language (with set language portlet) and then logs in, he would wonder why he has to change the language again, or? We want to provide the possibility that a user (also a public one) can choose the language within portal. We cannot estimate that all the users of our website have set their preferred language in the browser settings.
my Question:
============
Is there any way to keep the choosen language during login in Portal 9.0.4?
Thanks,
Chrigel

hi chrigel,
tested this in portal 9.0.4.
i select language a at login screen. browser has language b set as default language and language a as second language. when i now login portal keeps the language a as the session language.
even if you login with language c set and browser has only language a and b set the portal pages show up in language c, which means that this is the session language as well.
i was testing with IE 6.
regards,
christian

    Thank you very much.

    Hi. Try doing a safe boot. Press the Shift button while turning on the computer. If you encounter the same issue, boot from the install disk (insert the disk that came with your computer and boot your computer while holding the C key) and repair the disk and disk permissions. Hope this helps

  • Changing the English language to Chinese in portal.

    Hi,
    For a particular system,my customer wants every description and WoCs should be in Chinese in the portal.So,i changed the language for that user in the backend.But when i checked in portal,i found that only WoCs are coming in chinese language and description for particular WoC is coming in English.
    Can you suggest me in this issue.
    Thanks & Regards,
    harshavarddhan

    Hi Harshvardhan,
    Just to share some of my expereince while working with translation.
    First of all, the portal that I am currently working on does have a customize iView to change the portal language.
    Basicaly the portal language is refelcted in
    User Admin -> Identity Management, you will notice there is a Langugae field for the portal user.
    This language setting has higher priority compare with the Internet option language setting in the browser.
    The JCO connection to R3 system, we leave it as blank, so that whenever portal user access to R3 system,the login
    language (sy-langu) will same as the portal language setting.
    Invalid the Metadata cache in
    System Admin->System config->Webdynpro console.
    Some of the data element and text element does not reflect immediately due to the meta data cache in the portal, you need to invalidate those related Meta data dictionary then the translation will reflect.
    Hope this will be helpful to you.

  • MBP 2006, Crash during login, black screen, fans running high speed.

    Hello.
    I'm having problem with my MacBook Pro 2006 model. OSX 10.6.8.
    When I boot into OSX and log in then the computer crashes with black screen and fan start running on high speed. It usually happends when I'm typing my password but sometimes I can log in but then it crashes usually soon.
    I can boot into Safe mode and Single user mode and everything is normal there.
    If I boot from OSX install CD same happens. Its crashes. Same with from Install USB stick and from Disk warrior disk. Safemode and sigleuser mode is no problem.
    It started one year ago when I puted the computer to sleep and woke it up. Then it crashed. So I just stopped puting it to sleep. Then after few months it started doing this during login but after one or two restarts then it worked. And now she does it every time.
    Nothing in logs that gets my attention. I've tryed resetting SMC and everything else I can reset.
    Anyone had this problem ?
    Best Regards.
    Sverrir

    I've been having this same frustrating problem, with the same machine (A1150, 1.83Ghz) although mine does it with both the AC and the battery. I was hoping it was the battery and just replaced it (the old one was almost dead), to no avail.
    I thought it was working okay in Windows under Bootcamp until one day it decided to show off the same black-out/wild spinning fans symptoms. Grrr.
    I've since run the following repeatedly, all of which have come up with nothing: AHT, Memtest, Hardware Monitor, iStat. I've been furiously monitoring the logs and not seeing anything jump out. I also cleaned the caches with Leopard Cache Cleaner and OnyX, and did an archive & install of the OS a couple of times. Lastly, I created a new user to see if there were problems with my start-up. Problems persisted.
    Right now the only time I can keep it running is if I'm in Safe Mode. Not helpful, particularly WRT making a backup (i.e., I won't be able to use Firewire ).
    Any more ideas/advice on this would be very appreciated. I'm ready to hurl my puter out the window.

  • How to change language during a browsing session

    Hi everybody,
    We need an implementation where a user can log in with a guestuser (which is shared with different real persons).
    So we have user "Guest1" being used by x number of persons.
    During their browsing session there persons need to be able to switch the language of the portal between English, French and Dutch WITHOUT changing the language attribute of the portal user "Guest1" in the UME.
    Does anybody know how we can achieve this?
    I already thought about changing the browser language using javascript but I cant find a way to do this...
    (tried navigator.userLanguage = "EN" but this gives me nothing)
    Thanks in advance

  • Problem during login

    Hi all,
    I am experiencing a strange problem during login. I have installed a portal application
    ( very similar to the example stockportal application) , but when I attempt to
    login , I get redirected to the portal main page, and the login button is still
    visible.
    The strange part is that every once in a while, the login will work correctly,
    and I see new skins, templates etc. I have looked at some previous postings here
    which suggest the problem lies with the cookie path setting in the weblogic.xml
    file. I have made sure that is set properly ( to the name of the portal app) ,
    but the problem persists.
    Any help will me much appreciated..
    thanks.
    Vic

    Hi Vic,
    Sounds like you are losing your session (I guess that's pretty obvious =)).
    What is your cookie domain set to (in weblogic.xml)? If it has a setting (for
    example, ".beasys.com"), it must match your domain and you must include the domain
    in the url you request in your browser. For example, if your server name is "myserver"
    and your domain is ".mycompany.com" you must request "http://myserver.mycompany.com:<port-number>".
    Using "http://myserver:<port-number>" won't work. The browser uses both the
    cookie domain and the cookie path to decide whether to send the cookie with a
    particular request. You can also experiment with commenting out the cookie domain.
    Are you using a proxy server? There can be issues getting proxies configured
    correctly.
    Have you tried getting your browser to prompt you to accept session cookies?
    Short of a sniffer this is an excellent way to see what the server is sending
    to your client. You can verify that the cookie name, path, and domain are correct
    and are getting sent to your browser when you expect them to be.
    If you are familiar with a sniffer you can use it to see that the requests and
    responses and see what is happening with the cookies. I really like Ethereal
    (www.ethereal.com).
    Are you seeing the cookie name in the urls generated by webflow more than once
    per session? That would indicate that the browser is not sending the cookie back
    to the server and indicate a configuration error.
    What browser are you using?
    If you can't get it to work, can you attach your web.xml and weblogic.xml?

  • Error during startup of portal service after SPS11

    Hi Guys,
    After installation of SPS11 to our 2004s portal system we have problem with startup of our Portal service.
    Before SPS11 we had SPS9 system and everything was working correctly.
    Our service is connecting to Database during its initialization.
    This is part of our code:
    Properties p = new Properties();
    p.put("java.naming.factory.initial", "com.sap.engine.services.jndi.InitialContextFactoryImpl");
    try
         Context ctx = new InitialContext(p);
         _ds = (DataSource)ctx.lookup(POOLNAME);
         Connection conn = _ds.getConnection();
         conn.close();
         LogWriter.traceInfo(LogWrapper.trace,"Connection established.");

    If you deploy service on running portal it is started without any problems.
    We tried to apply note (Note 960199 - 2-Phase Init Mechanism for Portal Services is Deprecated) but without success.
    This is modification of our portalapps.xml as described in Note.

    Please could you help us with this problem?
    Anyone has an idea what is wrong?
    Thanks a lot
    Ondrej

    Hi Nirmal,
    thanks you for your quick response. This is what the installer returns when I use your suggested command:
    Mar 7, 2012 2:35:56 PM [Error]: The parameter jce_policy_zip in externally supplied configuration is invalid.
    I looked up the parameters for the STARTUP:
    rootdir [guiport] [httpport] [guistart] [guimode] [config] [sid] [instanceNr]
    Thus the jce_policy_zip is not a valid parameter.
    However, after deleting the file specified I could just run STARTUP again and this worked.
    Thanks
    Marcel

    Creative cloud applications keep asking me to login every time I launch an application on a same machine.
    How to solve this problem?
    Windows 7 Professional.

    Or it could be patially related to typical pains when a company makes an enormous transition like this. Ironcially, just as i said in my post, my issue resolved the next day.
    Listen, I undertstand the concern and certainly the frustration. I spend nothing short of 14 hours per day with Adobe apps open. primarily After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator. I know the hassle and I know the frustration of constantly having to sign back in, which i did for a bit too. But it's just a little melodramatic when people make idle threats they aren't going to follow through with anyway, about using a product that does what this does, and is such an enormous productivity tool that people say silly things. that's what I'm referring to. If you're going to choose an entire platform different than Adobe becuase theyr'e having issues on a brand new method of service and delivery you're an idiot anyway. Wouldn't you agree that the statements of ' i don't have time to test something' are a litle ridiculous? name any product, or purchase in any part of your life that has never failed at anything? and then saying thigns like it's suddenly an unstable environment, when the problem they're complaining about (and the complaint of course it legitimate) has absolutely nothing to do with the stability of the product?
    it's the overblown, silly statements that make people look foolish, do nothing to help the issue, and offer nothing that crack me up. When I read someone saying things like that i pretty much ignore anything else they say because reason isn't something they are using at that point anyway.
    See what you said? that has nothing to do with anyone I'm talking about. You made a valid point, didn't make silly comments like what I'm referring to. you said something I don't agree with, but you dind't go overboard and get all dramatic about it. I don't agree that it's an ongoing degredation of their rep. there is nobody even remotely close a valid competitor out there for this in the first place (depending on what software yoiu're referring to, but since we're in the CC forum i assume that's what you mean). The fact is, their reputation is so strong, no other software company can even compete. But even so I still see progress and innovation. Intel had a cushion with no competitor at one point, then AMD came in, and if you notice, within a couple years of AMD getting very popular, Intel started releasing their upgraded technology in less than a third of the time. But I don't think I see that laziness from Adobe. I don't honestly know that the reason is they moved to a subscription based environment but I know that almost all big software companies are at leasdt considering it. heck Microsoft was talking about changing their licensing and doing it the same way. And it's not for greed I'd guess, it's to comabt theft. At least that's my guess, i have no idea, but i don't believethat it's done and they would change their entire business model for a reason lefss important.
    While we're on that topic I'd like to point out i bet this new process makes an enormous dent in the piracy, at least short term, so for me I applaud it. because when so many people steal the software, it means people like me, and i assume you, pay much higher prices for our legit licenses. So anything that can be done to thwart that has my full approval. But it also just happens to have some nice benefits, in that the pricing is pretty ridiculously low IMO for the entire suite of apps for 50 bucks per month. let' be honest, anyone using them for business which is primarily what this softwre is geared to, understands that while it might seem high, it's tiny compared to the montly cost of doing business, to keep an up to date, suite full of apps that would cost thousands were it not for the subscription. I'll admit, I bought the full suite on the montly just because it made sense. And it actually paid off. Recently I had a client that desperately needed ihs forms migrated to interactive. they were word docs, excel and plain pdfs, but because I happen to have a license for Acrobat, i was able to import those into pdf files and convert them to interactive forms. Then recommend he use the online service to manage them, and frankly it paid for 6 months of licensing for 10 hours work. were it not for the subscription based licensing i'd not have even been able to offer the service because I wouldn't have paid for acrobat.
    Complaining about a piece of software you buy that doesn't work in an area, regardless of where it is, makes perfect sense. But the statements I'm referring to equate to someone buying a house, finding out the key doesn't work, or the doorknob is broke, throwing their hands up and saying 'i'm finding anohter house'. it's silly, and everyone knows there's no merit to it. But i get frustrated seeing it over and over, frewquently by people that hven't even paid for the software. Sometimes I post thing I shouldn't but hey, don't we all?
    I like to browse these forums becuse I'd say i've learned as much of my knowledge by reading tricks, tips and resolutions posted in forums as I did through my classes and education. That's possibly an overstatement but not by much. I do get just as frustrated at the people constantly trying to belitte the company as they do with their issues.

    Hello,
    you can disable CD/USB with GPO settings to prevent the use from it.
    And for the change from the local admin password you should consider that the CEO of the company should make clear policies so users can legally be punished if they don't work with the company rules.
    You can manage lot of settings with scripts etc. BUT there is a time where the CEO is responsible about rules.

  • Users created in ABAP tool cannot login to Portal

    Hello,
    I have created a user in abap and assigned them the role SAP_J2EE_ADMIN but cannot login into Portal (Message: User authentication failed) with that user. If I login to portal as J2EE_ADMIN and search for that user I get "No element found." Is there something that needs to be done to get users into Portal? Does authentication not occur against the abap system? Also is the J2EE_ADMIN user only valid within portal and not the abap backend?
    I am using EP7.
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi Kelly,
    I changed it under System Administration>>System Configuration>>UME Configuration>>ABAP System tab. If you read ealier in this thread however, I could not restart the j2ee server after that....so change it at your own risk!
    If you do change it and cannot restart,  go into the config tool and navigate to Global server configuration >> services >> com.sap.security.core.ume.service and find the ume.r3.connection.master.client key. Change that back to it's original value. I was able to restart after that.
    Hope that helps.
