Keep customized icon after changing gnome icon themes

Is that possible under current gnome2.6? Thanks in advance.

Oh, thanks, but I think you mean to customize icon themes. I am sorry I don't explain very clearly, I mean when I choose a picture as my folder's looking, say, a post for my movie stored folder- I do like the feature - but if I changed my icon theme in the theme section, the customized looking of my folder is gone, so can I keep it not changed? I can change my desktop icon and keep it no matter how I changed my icon theme, but in nautilus I can't do so. Is there any way to do so? Thanks.

  • Google Chrome bookmarks keep showing up after I re-organize them!

Hello! My Google Chrome bookmarks keep showing up after I re-organize them into their appropriate folders on my bookmarks bar.. It's very frustrating because I put a lot of time and effort into keeping everything on my Mac super-organized, just for me to organize everything into folders using the "Bookmark Manager", and then re-open Chrome, to find out that:
-all of my bookmarks are in the "appropriate folders" that i put them in
-all of the bookmarks that were "floaters" (not in a folder previously, just on the bookmarks bar, but were moved into a folder) are returning back to their original positions on the bookmarks bar.. but they are still inside the "folder" as well.. basically creating many duplicate "Favorites" if I then move those into the folders.. and then it repeats over and over
Can anybody help shed some insight on what could be going on here? Thanks!

  • Custom icon settings ignored in taskbar

I added custom icons for Chromium and Gimp to my custom icon theme, but even if the custom icons are correctly shown in menus and short links, after I launch one of these programs the default icon is shown instead of the custom one into the taskbar.
Any idea what the cause of this may be?
Dunno if it is relevant, but it seems that this affect only non-kde applications
    I'm a Kde 4.3 user.

    Hi,
If I understood, you have a KM navigation iview, where some folders apperar. You want to change the icon for each of them differently.
    For this do the following:
First have a look into the KM.navigation iview and get the layout set property. Go to System config->KM->Content management->User interface->Settings->LayoutSet and find the layout set you are using. Go to appropriate resource renderer and check the "<b>Icon setting</b>". Change it to: <b>iconreplace</b>.
Now get the KM details for your folders and change the <b>IconSource</b> property to your image Example:
    /etc/public/mimes/images/add.gif
Voila...the icons for these folders are changed!
    Hope this is your case.

  • Nautilus ignores icon theme

I have the GNOME desktop environment installed, and Nautilus as my file manager. I am using a custom icon theme in GNOME, installed in /usr/share/icons, and it's working for every app - but nautilus.
Nautilus doesn't seem to use the icon theme, unless I run it as root? What is causing this problem, and as important, how do I fix it?

mrunion wrote:Have you checked the permissions on the theme you installed in /usr/share/icons to make sure others besides root can read it?
Sorry I didn't reply, I was absent over the weekend. The permissions for the icons are rwxr-xr-x so Nautilus under any account should be able to access it. Other programs do respect the icon theme btw.

  • Change Gnome Menu Icon [SOLVED]

    Hello,
I have been able to change the main menu icon in Gnome in several other distributions running gnome 2.22 (Fedora, Debian, etc) and had no issues. The method I have always used is copy the custom icon to /usr/share/icons/gnome/24x24/places/start-here.png. I have not been successful with this in Arch. I also tried copying to the 22x22 directory and also using the GConf method (apps > panels > objects > Use_Custom_Icon...). No luck so far. I'm totally up to date with all my stuff (gnome 2.22.2), so if anyone knows a good method, it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Assuming you're using Gnome's default icon theme:
    1. Replace /usr/share/icons/gnome/24x24/places/start-here.png with your icon of choice.
    2. If the theme's icon cache was previously generated (/usr/share/icons/gnome/icon-theme.cache), you can either re-generate it using the following command
         # gtk-update-icon-cache /usr/share/icons/gnome
or you can just delete it (the cache is supposed to speed up GTK apps' access to the icons).
    3. Restart X or # killall gnome-panel to see the change.
That's what I had to do too, but it feels like the wrong way. It should be possible to change it through the configuration editor. A bug perhaps?
Edit: Replacing the icon file was not possible with the default icon theme. However, it works on other themes.

  • Cannot use elementary icons themes after upgrading to GTK+-2.22.0 ?

    Hello All,
After upgrading to GTK+-2.22.0, elementary icons look horribly wrong for some reason. I thought maybe i need to download the icons themes again (https://launchpad.net/elementaryicons/+download) so i did download the latest elementary icons and install them in ~/icons. However, the icons themes dont look the way they should look. Therefore, I am not sure what i did wrong, or if it had to do with upgrading to GTK+-2.22.0 and i am wondering if i am missing something or need to change some setting.
I am using Xface4 as my Desktop Environments.
Any help would be much appreciated.

After upgrading, almost all of my icon themes are broken, including Elementary, which is the only one I actually care about.
    *EDIT*
Recent update to libpng seems to have solved it for me.  They still don't display properly in the "Appearance -> Theme -> Customize... -> Icons" dialog, but they display properly in Nautilus and on the panels.

  • When opening music player, I keep getting icons that say waiting. These keep adding up and I can't get rid of them

I have icons that pop up and say: waiting but nothing loads, these keep coming in after I open music player. I can't delete these either

go to the appstore and make sure that there are no new updates for Drawsomething.
If that is fine, double tap the home button and remove every app you see in that area. (hold your finger on the recent apps area that just came up and then remove every app from that area.
Now try to go to DrawSomething.
    If that didn't do it:
Now go to where you have draw something and remove it from your ipad (hold down the icon until it all of them start to wiggle and hit the X on Draw something.
Now go back to the App Store and redownload draw something.
    See if that doesn't help.

  • Icon-theme changes problem[SOLVED]

I have murrine-engine, aurora-engine installed. I have installed gtk-engine-equinox and are trying to use equinox-evolution theme with Faenza icon-theme. I had a nice desktop for a couple of days. Yesterday it reverted back to the original icon-theme. Now I cannot change the icon-theme at all. I don't get it. Why is it OK one day but not the next? I have the themes in /usr/share/themes and ~/.themes. Same with icons. Same icons in both directorys. I'm running x86_64 and gnome.
OK. Had to remove all other icon-themes from ~/.themes. Why is it so?

I know how to change themes using the method you described; however, the icon theme that is displayed is tango. I clearly chose tamiga, and the rox file in ~/.config points to the tamiga icon theme. So my question is why isn't the tamiga theme being used? Does it have something to with the inherits line in the icon cofig file? Is there some other problem? Some icon themes display correctly, but not others.
    Thanks for trying!

  • Custom icon seems locked ... can't change it

    Powermac G5/10.4.6
A while back I put custom icons on two partitions of a LaCie FW drive. I'd like to change the icons, but I can't select them in the "Get Info" window. I can change icons of other drives, just not these two partitions. When I click on the icon in the info window, it does not become "selected" (with the blue border around it.) Pasting does nothing and dragging an image into the Preview area of Get Info does nothing, either.
I've got Read & Write permissions on both these drives.
    Any ideas?

    hi again,
just follow the steps as i wrote them before. i'll put them here again w/ some more comments to walk you through
    1. double-click on the Terminal Application: Applications > Utilities > Terminal.
    2. a "Terminal" window pops up
    3. now enter the letters "cd", then a space, then drag the icon for the drive from a finder window into this Terminal window.
    4. hit return.
    now enter this: ls -lasF
then hit return to see what's in that area.
do you see a file in that listing called .VolumeIcon.icns ?
post back if it's still not clear so far...
to delete that file, enter in tothe same Terminal window the following command:
    sudo rm .VolumeIcon.icns
    then hit return.
then enter your admin password and hit return.
then enter ls -lasF again. this custom icon file will be gone now...
    cheers

  • Xfce4 Does Not change icon theme

    Hi arch community,
I have installed xfce4, Liking it. But when I wanted to change the icons, I wanted to  use the Cheser icon theme, so I followed the instuctions here:
    http://docs.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-settings/appearance
    Under the icon section.
I could not change the icon theme, but I could change everything else such as fonts and gtk theme.
    Here's what I have tried:
    -Deleting ~/.config directory
    -Log out, then back in.
-Changing the permissions of ~/.icons to username
    -Rebooted
    EDIT:
This was somehow solved by a hard reboot, because the logon manager failed to work,I think the cleanup removed/corruped one of the files, then changed my icons!
Call me crazy, but that's how I did it.

I am having the exact same problem. It is even worse because it has happened to me in class before.
The other day, after coming to class I opened up my MBP from sleep intending to work on some things for class. As a general practice I hit the mute key as soon as I open the Mac. This always worked well with my Powerbook. However the system did not mute and the connection noises from iChat played out. This upset the teacher who glared at me for the rest of the class.
This is not an isolated incident either. I have had the tool bar and the translucent icon disagree a number of times.
I have found that if I hit the mute key twice it will generally correct the problem. But it is annoying. I hope someone at Apple is listening (in more than one way it would seem)

  • Change KDE Icon theme from XFCE

I just installed okular and some other KDE applications since the GNOME3 ones currently look pretty bad in my XFCE desktop. The GTK/QT themes are easy to get to match, but  there's a KDE port of my icon theme, and I don't know how to change to it. Do I have to install KDE's control center / system settings program and if so what package is it part of or is there just some file I can hand edit?
    Thanks.

Well, so far I figured out that the KDE control center is part of the kdebase-workspace package which brought in about 85MB of dependencies and other stuff. So I'd still prefer to find a textual solution, but when I tried diffing my .kde4 folder before and after, I got different results different times, so I'm still working on that. Will post if I figure anything out and perhaps whip upsome bash script to change it.

  • LabVIEW 8.20 hangs after selecting a custom icon in the app builder

I have been trying to build an executable that uses a custom icon file.  The multi-resolution icon has worked previously in LV7.1.  Whenever I select the custom icon in the build specifications, I can build the executable, but LabVIEW then hangs after that and I can only close it using the Task Manager.  All works fine until I change from the default LabVIEW icon.  And because LabVIEW hangs after selecting the icon, I cannot save the project with the new build specification.

    Hello,
the thing is that even if I create the 256color icon after I save it and close icon editor it takes the 16color icon anyway. If I create an ico file that contains only one icon 32x32 256c Labview displayes warning (see warning.png) and uses default icon for 16c and nothing for black and white (see selected.png)
So how to force Labview to use 256c icon

    I think it belongs here.

Yes, that works just fine, thank you! xdg-user-dirs was not installed, because I did not install the whole gnome. I installed it and updated the directories (xdg-user-dirs-update) and now the icons look just like I want.
But I have a couple of folders (like ~/Distros or ~/Source) for which I would like to set custom icons too.
So I have ~/.icons/retrofukation/scaled/places/folder-source.png and ~/Source directory. Any chance to set an icon for it?
