Keep fixed resolution even when display not attached

Is there any way to lock the display resolution on a Mac, even when there is no display attached? Or to change the set of display resolutions that are available when no display is attached?
I connect a Mac to my A/V system via DVI -> HDMI. As long as the unit the Mac is connected to is turned on, the Mac gets reasonable EDID info and allows me to set it to 1920x1080, as desired. But after turning the A/V system off overnight, the Mac invariably reverts to some lower resolution, which wreaks havoc with window sizes and positions. I just want the Mac to stay at 1920x1080.
I tried SwitchResX, which lets you add available resolutions and disable resolutions, but only when the display is attached, so it accomplishes nothing when the display is disconnected. I've confirmed the inability of SwitchResX to address the problem with its author.
I purchased a Gefen DVI Detective Plus that theoretically learns the EDID information of a display, keeps that information available to the Mac at all times, and passes the video through it. This would be perfect, except A) it doesn't work correctly in the learning mode (I never did get an image up that way), and B) using a built-in EDID configuration it doesn't cleanly pass the video (it works sometimes, for a little while, but then sparklies start to appear and before long the HDMI connection is lost). Useless.
I found information on the web about various .plist files, and I've edited most or all of them, all to no avail. I think I could give myself additional resolutions, while a display is connected, but, again, it's the behavior when there effectively is no display that is causing me problems.
Unless someone here knows a way to lock the display resolution or to edit the set of resolutions available when a display is missing I fear I'll be moving and resizing windows for the rest of my days.
(Note: This machine happens to still be on Tiger, but I'd be happy to upgrade it to Leopard if that would afford a solution.)

I am part of the unlucky ones who didnt't have applecare or the extended warranty. My iMac broke down 8 months ago. I no longer have any display. The strange thing was I left it at home because I went to uni, so there was a period of at least 10 months where it was not used. But still it failed within a few weeks of me getting back home. I was sucked in by their adverts making me believe they were a superior computer to any windows based. How wrong was I. It has now left me with a very bitter taste.
Any of you guys know if it still will work if I connect an external monitor?

Try resetting it (nothing will be lost): Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Silver Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). The Home screen should redisplay after the reset is complete.

Keywords have been moved into the Info tray at the right. Don't know why it was changed. You can send a request to change it back to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.

To turn battery percentage back on: Settings>General>Usage>Battery Percentage --switch on.

DW CS5 Mac10.7.x: keep DW windows visible when DW not at front?

When DW is the front-most app, all currently-open DW windows are visible.
Switch to another app, including the Finder, all DW windows disappear.
Any way to change this behavior? Any way to keep DW windows visible when it is not the front-most (active) app?
Why do I ask? For one thing, as it stands, I find it very difficult to document something that's going on in DW, say in a forum -- this one!

But are they different document types? When you create a new document are you trying different types like XHTML 1.1, HTML5, HTML4, etc? The more details you can provide the more likely the problem will be fixed. Currently I am using CS5.5 on a Mac and the validation works for me in multiple types so the more you can tell Adobe when you submit the bug report the better.

CRM Interaction Centre - Error when display an attachment

Hi All,
I'm getting this error when I try to display the attachment in CRM.
"No document display because of missing Customizing for HTTP service '/default_host/sap/bc/contentserver' -> See SAP Note 606745"
We have activated the contentserver in transaction SICF. I can attach a document but cannot display...I can attach .doc and pdf files.
Is there any missing settings to display that attachment?

Photos copies photos when importing even when told not to copy photos when importing?

The new Photos app is pretty cool.
The one thing I didn't like about iPhotos is still present here: Rather than handling my photos in the Finder it creates a weird database full of all the photos -- and the only way to get to them is via this one app. I guess maybe we'll have a solution for that in the future.
But I have stumbled across something that may be a deal breaker for me: Even when set to not COPY imported photos, it turns out the Photos copies imported photos.
In preferences: GENERAL -> IMPORTING you can choose whether to Copy Items To The Photo Library.
Well, I don't want to do that. I have 8G of photos on my drive, and relatively little space, and the last thing I need to do is use double the space! So I chose not to copy items when importing.
I come back a couple hours later. And guess what? My Photos app/library is 8G in size! Photos has copied all my photos when importing. So now I have two copies of all my photos on my hard drive, and I am running out of space.
Is there a way to make that setting, to not copy photos when importing, work?

Thanks for the idea. Here is what I found:
The "Masters" folder is very small. 300MB.
The "Previews" folder is a similar size.
"Thumbnails" are under 1G.
It's the "Resources" folder that is many gigs in size.
Very interesting. So in a sense, it could be even worse!
That is, apparently the setting prevented the "Masters" folder from getting 8 gig of photos copied into it.
But even so, "Resources" ended up with 6.5G in it -- even though no files were copied!
Wild.
Other photo management apps (e.g., Lightroom) have sort of a 10% overhead, not a 90% overhead -- i.e., close to the same size as the actual photos themselves.
I should probably start a fresh question, now that you have solved half the mystery: Yes, the actual photos were not imported into Masters, but Resources gets really big!

Safari is constantly quitting, even when Safari is not even open. When I do open it, I can normally use one website and then it quits again. Does anyone know what the problem may be?

Register network - even when its not in range

I bought a Macbook Pro for my in-laws, who aren't tech savvy and live in pretty far away.
Is there a way that I can set up the Macbook Pro to recognize their wireless network, even though its not in range?
I have the network details, since its own my own laptop. Any possible way?

I don't quite understand what you mean by that but you can do the following. in network preferences->airport click on advanced->airport and check the box to remember networks this computer has joined. then when you are connecting to a network for the first time check the box to remember the password in the keychain (I do hope you password protect the network). then airport will automatically connect to this network any time it's in range.

Performance Increase when display is attached

I find this very strange and I'm hoping someone can offer some input.
I have a music studio where there are 2 Dual 2.0 G5 machines acting as hosts running Logic Studio and each has 6 mac minis attached acting as slaves. There are no displays hooked up to these minis as we are accessing all of them through ARD (remote desktop).
On each of the minis we are running Plogue Bidule hosting multiple instances of Kontakt. There is a SUBSTANTIAL decrease in loadtime when a display is attached to the mac mini... I have tested this multiple times on different mac minis and have found nothing that can explain it.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Wow, that's a real stumper. I've never heard of running headless affecting performance so severly, or at all. Plenty of people run mini's as headless servers and I have never heard this complaint of a slowdown.
