Keep Flac tags?

I like the the native flac support in CS6, but it's very annoying that you loose the tags when saving a flac file.
To keep my tags I open the flac in a tag editor, copy the tag, do my editing in audition and then paste the tag back.
Is there any way to keep the flac tags from being deleted when saving.

There's an open issue to investigate this problem with FLAC and OGG, both of which are written and read through libsndfile integration.

  • How can I import photos from iPhoto '09 to Elements Organizer 10 while keeping the tags attached?

    I have spent a ridiculously long time tagging photos in my iPhotos but I would now like to transfer all my photos to Elements Organizer and preserve all the work I had done.
    From Adobe's help website (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/elementsorganizer/using/WS73c05ee9864270ea-417df45c129593bfa05 -8000.html) it says I can import the tags along with the photos but does not explain how:
    "Elements Organizer 10 supports importing photos, along with their associated captions, tags, and ratings, from iPhoto. You also have the option to import information such as events and albums to maintain the organization of your library"
    When I follow the steps outlined on the website my photos are imported but there are no tags attached to them. I am particularly interested in keeping my facial tags but I suppose it would be useful to know how to keep other keyword tags and ratings as well.
    There was a previous question put out on the forums similar to this but it was unresolved and the person decided to just leave everything in iPhoto. I really would prefer to transfer all my photos to Elements Organizer. I don't like the way iPhoto organizes photos but I had to deal with it for several years before I bought Elements Photoshop with built-in Organizer.
    Please Please help!
    Many thanks
    D.M.

    You don't import one library to another.  Just copy the library from the iBook to the Pictures folder on shout new MacBook Pro. If you have another library already on the MBP rename it so you don't overwrite it with the old library.
    Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and select the newly copied library and let iPhoto convert it to the new version.
    Do you have photos in the library on the new MacBook Pro that you want to combine with the older library?

  • Can't keep IndexIX tag in bookmarks lists

    For some reason, some of my book files do not seem to have any "knowledge" of the IndexIX paragraph tag, which I need for creating PDF files from a FM book (so it will go in the bookmarks list), and also for when I generate a TOC, because I want to include the index chapter in the TOC.
    If I start with a book file that doesn't have the IndexIX tag in either of the bookmark lists (include or don't include tag), I have no idea how to add it. I can't find anything about that in the help files and I spent a lot of time looking.
    I found a workaround, which is to copy a book file from some other book that shows the IndexIX tag in the include or don't-include list. I delete all the FM files from the book file, and then I add the files from the current book I'm working on. This book file does reference the IndexIX tag. I rename the book file for the current book title, and I'm set.
    However, even that workaround isn't working today. The IndexIX tag is there at first (because it was in the book file that I copied), but after I add some files to the book, it suddenly disappears. I haven't figured out what exactly is causing that. But there must be a normal way to add a paragraph tag to a book file!
    OK, here's the part I dread: telling you all which version of FM I have.   It's version 8. I don't have any control over that at the moment (my employer makes that decision), and I really need to fix this problem now, so I hope there's someone here who won't tell me you're not supporting version 8 any more. I know that, but I'm hoping someone reading this will have encountered this problem before and knows what to do.
    I'm running FM on a Windows 8 system. I don't think compatibility is an issue, though, because I've had this problem with the IndexIX tag for years. After I used the workaround, I just kept updating the same books, which were derived from the previous versions, all of which had IndexIX. But now I'm creating a new book and the problem has resurfaced.
    Thank you!

    Hi Arnis,
    Thanks for the reply. I don't think I explained my problem very well.
    I do know how to create a standard index, how to put markers in the material, and how to use different levels of references. Usually, after I create the index, I then create the TOC. I do it in that order so that the index is listed in the TOC. But for that to happen, I need to include the paragraph tag for the word "Index," which is the title of the index chapter (along with Chap Num, Appendix, and other tags I want in the TOC). The tag for that title is "IndexIX". This works fine in several of the books I manage, but in some cases, I can't seem to keep the IndexIX tag in the list of tags to include in the TOC. At some point, that tag disappears from the list of known tags in the current book. I have no idea why that happens - I haven't removed the index from the book file, so the tag should still be there.
    Here's the dialog box I'm referring to. It is posted when I select Add -> Table of Contents from the book file:
    In the above example, I had already created an index, and the title (or chapter name), "Index," is tagged as "IndexIX." This tag is in the list of tags to be included in the TOC.
    But in some cases - and I can't figure out why - when I create an index in a book in the exact same way that I always do it, that tag doesn't show up in the "Don't Include" list when I create the TOC.
    The only workaround I've come up with is to copy a book file from another book in which the IndexIX tag is present and works correctly, delete the files in that book file, and add the files for the current book into the copied book file. The IndexIX tag is still in the list. I can then create a TOC that has the index listed. At least, this has worked in the past. I haven't needed to do this for a few years, but I am now creating a new book that needs an index, and this time, even my workaround doesn't work. Anyway, there ought to be a more straightforward way of getting the index listed in the table of contents.
    I hope this makes more sense!
    Thanks,

  • Keep namespace tags throughout the message mapping in XI

    Hi!
    I am facing the following problem:
    A backend application sends out XML messages that all have a namespace tag in the element names:
    <ns1:StandardBusinessDocument xmlns:ns1="http://www.unece.org/cefact/namespaces/SBDH" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:eanucc="urn:ean.ucc:2" xmlns:deliver="urn:ean.ucc:deliver:2" xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.unece.org/cefact/namespaces/SBDH ../Schemas/sbdh/StandardBusinessDocumentHeader.xsd urn:ean.ucc:2 ../Schemas/ReceivingAdviceProxy.xsd">
    <ns1:StandardBusinessDocumentHeader>
    <ns1:HeaderVersion>2.2</ns1:HeaderVersion>
    <ns1:Sender>
    <ns1:Identifier Authority="EAN.UCC">1234567890123</ns1:Identifier>
    </ns1:Sender>
    Problem is that the backend expects the reply from XI to look the same (ns0: or ns1: in front of every element name). But when I import the xsd into XI, it removes these tags and the message then looks completely different to the backend:
    <ns0:StandardBusinessDocument xmlns:ns0="urn:ean.ucc:2" ns1="http://www.unece.org/cefact/namespaces/SBDH" eanucc="urn:ean.ucc:2" deliver="urn:ean.ucc:deliver:2" schemaLocation="http://www.unece.org/cefact/namespaces/SBDH ../Schemas/sbdh/StandardBusinessDocumentHeader.xsd urn:ean.ucc:2 ../Schemas/ReceivingAdviceProxy.xsd" xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"><StandardBusinessDocumentHeader><HeaderVersion>2.2</HeaderVersion><Sender><Identifier Authority="EAN.UCC">1234567890123</Identifier></Sender>
    Any help on how to make XI keep the namespace tags is greatly appreciated!
    Cheers!

  • How do I extract pages from an accessible document and keep the tags?

    I have a 300 page document that contains tags. I need to extract 5 pages with complex <Table>  structures and maintain the tags. I also want to Import the same pages into another document while maintaining the Tags.
    My efforts this far gives the 5 extracted pages and there are Tags but they no longer seem connected to the pages.
    Am I asking too much?

    Thank you very much for the assistance. I ended up deleting all of the pages and Tags but those that I wanted to "export". Saving that as a file and combining it successfully.
    I did indeed follow the instructions for Extracting, but as with many things in Acrobat, it has its issues.
    Here is what I think happened that ensured failure before. First I assumed that if I export the pages the Tags "belonging" to those pages would export as well without difficulty. For each page I created a new Section and named it for the page number. So with the auto-tagging completed I created Section for each page and moved the Tags under the proper Sections. However I had not completed the process for the entire document when I needed to do the Export. I apparently left Tags belonging to later pages in the document (they were buried in Sections of Sections).
    When I originally exported, I had the pages I wanted and a lot of Tags relating to pages at the beginning of the document as well as Tags for pages near the end of the document. Clearly the Tags (in the Tag View) for the pages not exported were dead. But so were the Tags for the pages that were exported.
    I expect that not having the Tags in proper order made Acrobat lose its mind during the export process.

  • Ojspc (with JDeveloper 10.1.3.2.0) keeps recompiling .tag files.

    I find it takes an extremely long time to compile my web application with 75 .jsp files (14188 non-blank lines) and 24 .tag files (438 non-blank lines). About 24 minutes, in fact. I attribute this to the utility insisting on recompiling each and every .tag file for every .jsp that uses them.
    During translation, I see the javac process start up several times, and I inspected the javacXXX temporary file that gets created (it stores the VM arguments for each compilation) whenever Oracle needs to compile a page. Now compilation is supposed to happen after translation, but it still happens repeatedly for the same .tag file. If the .tag file is used in each of the 75 .jsp files, then it gets compiled 75 times! I even tried adding the temporary directory where Oracle outputs its .class files for these .tag files to the compilation classpath, and it didn't have any effect.
    I also can't precompile the .tag files in an attempt to force it to use already compiled .tag files, as ojspc doesn't seem to want to translate/compile them on its own (but only as a result of a .jsp that needs them).
    Here are the options in my build.xml:
      <target name="ojspc">
        <path id="ojspc.classpath">
          <fileset dir="${source.web.path}/WEB-INF/lib">
            <include name="*.jar" />
          </fileset>
          <!-- The following is where the .tag files end up after being automatically translated,
               then compiled (even though the compiled versions are .class files and should go in
               oracle/generatedClass, below) -->
          <pathelement path="${build.root}/oracle/generatedJava" />
        </path>
        <property name="ojspc.classpath" refid="ojspc.classpath" />
        <mkdir dir="${build.root}/oracle" />
        <mkdir dir="${build.root}/oracle/generatedClass" />
        <mkdir dir="${build.root}/oracle/generatedJava" />
        <oracle:compileJsp verbose="true"
          appRoot="${build.webapp.path}"
          dir="${build.root}/oracle/generatedClass"
          srcDir="${build.root}/oracle/generatedJava"
          addClassPath="${ojspc.classpath}">
          <fileset dir="${build.webapp.path}">
            <include name="**/*.jsp" />
          </fileset>
        </oracle:compileJsp>
      </target>There's nothing particularly memorable about the ant output. Everything succeeds. But 24 minutes for 15k lines of JSP sounds pretty ridiculous... this whole endeavor was an attempt to reduce initial page hit lags after deployment, but ..... 24 minutes??? :)
    Thanks,

  • Exporting a TV Series to another iTunes library - keeping all tag info?

    Hi
    I have a TV series that I ripped from my DVDs into iTunes.
    There are 3 seasons. All artwork, episode numbers, and seasons are grouped nicely and appear in iTunes exactly how they should.
    MY QUESTION IS: Does anyone know how to export and import this nicely grouped TV series to another iTunes library on another PC (i.e. from mine to my sisters library) without loosing all metadata/tags etc.
    I did this a while ago with another TV series, but I remember that the movie files are automatically imported into the Movies section of iTunes.
    I had to painfully go through all the episodes and seasons and re-group them all again and change them to the TV programmes section - took a good hour and half - do not want to do that again!
    Any ideas would be greatful...

    Hi,
    All file formats are .m4v (mp4) which work fine with iTunes which does support tags and when I have imported to another PC, it still defaults to the Movie section, so the 'TV Show' tag doesn't seem to make a difference.
    My only problem is that the meta tags (I'm guessing) are stored within the master iTunes Library.xml file and not the movie files them selves, hence the reason why all movie files default to the movie section.
    I thought of creating a Playlist and adding all the seasons of the TV series, exporting that (to XML), then re-importing to other PC.
    Of course, the only problem is file paths in the XML point to the real location of the mp4 on my PC, not on the PC I want to export to - meh.
    Anyone else have any ideas?

    Ok, I just tested the new version :
    - It's harder to read than before
    - If you select ie: remove tags and select the other option (o), you can't cancel your choice. You could always leave the field empty (nothing will be removed), but a simple option to leave would be better IMHO.
    - To quit, you sometimes have to enter b, b, b, q. An exiting option always available could be a nice improvement (I'm aware of ctrl+c, that's not the point).
    Something else, I don't know if it is a bug or not, but I currently have a track, where the field Comment contains "Track 1". This field isn't listed by flack.
    Sorry if can't give you feedback more often, but I don't tag my music collection everyday

  • Converting FLAC to itunes

    Folks,
    I've purchased a Grateful Dead album, one of Dick's Picks, and downloaded them as FLAC files. I've converted the FLAC files to AIFF files using a program called XACT. Now I want to import these AIFF files into itunes and burn the tunes onto a CD.
    Here's the question. How do I keep the TAGS from the original FLAC files when I burn the CD? I don't want to have to retype all the tags, but I can't figure out how to retain the tags. Any help greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Bond

    actually there's a shell script that will convert FLAC directly to MP3 using LAME. It will preserve the FLAC metadata and put them in the MP3 tags if there is metadata.
    It does depend on having certain libraries installed, so it can be kind of advanced. But it works well once you get it working.
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20040323004759816
    Another version of this idea is here (haven't tried this one):
    http://www.gurulabs.com/goodies/downloads.php
    You definitely need LAME installed. once you get it working and in your path, you just cd to the directory of the flac files and then type:
    flacmp3 *.flac
    (I am using a modificaiton of the Chris R's FLACMP3 script to use LAME preset standard encoding. Here is what I'm using.)
    #!/bin/sh
    # flacmp3 - convert a flac file and its tag data to mp3/id3 format
    # Thisscript takes in FLAC files and spits out MP3 files. If youÕve assigned
    # metadata to a FLAC file (usingvctool, for example), it carries that information over to the MP3:
    # % flacmp3 *.flac
    # ThatÕs all it takes to do the job.
    # other settings for the lame line:
    #      lame -h -m s -b 192 \
    # this also has the lame command deliberately put on one line
    if [ "$1" ]
    then
      for file
        do
        if [ -e "$file" ]
        then
          flac -c -d "$file" |
          lame --preset standard --tt "$(metaflac --show-tag=TITLE "$file" | sed 's/^TITLE=\(.*\)/\1/')" --ta "$(metaflac --show-tag=ARTIST "$file" | sed 's/^ARTIST=\(.*\)/\1/')" --tl "$(metaflac --show-tag=ALBUM "$file" | sed 's/^ALBUM=\(.*\)/\1/')" --ty "$(metaflac --show-tag=DATE "$file" | sed 's/^DATE=\(.*\)/\1/')" --tn "$(metaflac --show-tag=TRACKNUMBER "$file" | sed 's/^TRACKNUMBER=\(.*\)/\1/')" --tg "$(metaflac --show-tag=GENRE "$file" | sed 's/^GENRE=\(.*\)/\1/')" - "$(basename "$file" .flac).mp3"
          mv "$file" /.Trashes/501/
        else
          echo >&2 "No such file: "$file" -- skipping."
        fi
      done

  • Archiving cds and why do i need id3 tags

    here comes another one of those questions looking at which codec to use to store music.....i also have tag questions.....
    i'm about to (re-)rip my cd collection and looking at some info re codecs and id3 tags
    now.....i believe i understand the benefits of alac (lower file sizes, keeping id3 tags, lossless compression) v wav(no compression)
    however (and for some out there) if we just entertain the fact that wav may have some minute benefit for me depending on my questions and answers given.....and yes i know wav and alac will sound the same to the human ear - i accept that as a given of lossless compression ......
    points i'd like to outline:
    i am looking to rip my cds, firstly and mostly, for an archiving purpose!! purpose numero uno!!
    i could well want to re-create cds with these archived records in the future
    size of files is of no concern to me at all
    i'm using a mac nowadays
    i will convert most of these files, where needed, to use with a portable music player (i'm not bothered with having, say a wav file and then also converting and having an alac file, as crazy as that sounds)
    this is where i ask for info re the benefits of embedded tags that are found in alac:
    are these tags that important?
    where do they come into play in ripping and later converting music?
    are these uses just bells and whistles that have no benefit to my needs?
    if i rip cds to wav (or aiff), say, using itunes, will cd info and track listings be available on the downloading database (eg itunes) to name these wav files?
    if i then ensure these song files are kept under the album's folder, have i just done what tags do? surely not. that is all i have needed in the past.
    this is where i feel i may be really missing what id tags (can) do
    are tags more than just managing song files and where they belong and where they have come from?
    is it just a convenience of not personally managing your song files (as per previous paragraph)?
    (in the past i had ripped cds to mp3 codec. i think i used "cd rip" or something like that on my pc.
    my mp3 files were individually named and sorted and kept under album folders under artist name folders.
    apart form the very odd occasion all track and album info i needed was found on a database that was attached to the ripping software.
    i never had a problem managing/maintaining these files and folders.)
    i welcome some enlightenment on some of my questions above and other info that may be relevant
    and yes, i understand that music will sound the same as a wav file or alac file - but humour me re using wav and tell me why i need id3 tags
    i guess the crux of it is:
    why do i need id3 tags?
    does my managing of my song file in the album folder do what tags do?
    what problems/shortcomings/headaches may i encounter by not having those tags if i use wav as opposed to alac?
    what do i not know about these little buggers?
    what codec is best for my purpose of archiving and re creating of cds (for playing in cd players)
    thanks in advance for your input and any clarity that i may experience through this

    as mentioned earlier if i just have songs (wav) in album folders, when i import these albums into itunes, do you know if these will come up under AN album with their file names purely using my filename setup (but with no artwork)?
    Yes, iTunes will read the filename, such as "Track 1" or something else and display it. But nothing else. No Album or Artist.
    so the tracks will remain grouped as an album based on their initial folder and the albums and tracks as per file name?
    Crows2012 wrote:
    also, does aiff have limitations (apart from the full size of the file)?
    I'm not sure I understand what you mean. For all practical purposes AIFF and WAV are exactly the same thing. They're just file containers.
    i thought that i had read somewhere that aiff tags could run into some issues with its tags - ie may not always be transferred 100% accurately with certain players (or hardware maybe)
    Crows2012 wrote:
    and how do these codecs work re-creating an album for the purposes of playing in a cd player? - this is a crucial question for the purpose of my archiving/backup of CDs THEMSELVES
    That's actually going to depend on what burning software you use. Once you rip the tracks to whatever file container you choose (WAV/AIFF/ALAC) you'll never really exactly re-create the album. But for archiving purposes all three file containers will do what you want, which is to create a lossless archive. AIFF has the advantage of supporting embedded ID3, which ALAC has the additional advantage of the files also being about half the size of AIFF/WAV files.
    i was thinking that maybe wav was able to recreate an album (in effect duplicate one) if my cd was lost or damaged in the future. i was thinking this IF when ripping to wav everything is unchanged (unless there is other data on the original cd). and maybe only possible with wav. the purpose for this would be to play recreated cds on my cd player
    any idea on this one?
    (i havent looked too thoroughly on this angle but i'll keep googling on this one)
    much appreciate all info thus far

  • ALU Not tagging files. I found a workaround!

    Hello all,
    Just wanting to post this for future reference.
    I bought a 3rd party Apple Loops pack and when installing it I realized that they were not tagged. I spent an entire evening tagging more that 1000 loops, hitting the save button every once in a while.
    At the end of the day I checked the tagging and it was still not there....
    I hated myself for a while and then I searched for some answers here.
    Tried resaving the aiff files, to no avail (some of them would keep the tags while the majority wouldn´t)
    So here´s what I did:
    I use the app Switch to batch convert the loops to wav.
    I loaded the wavs in ALU.
    I hit "looping"
    I hit "save all"
    ALU automatically converted the wavs to aiff and kept the correct tagging.
    AT LAST!!!
    I hope this saves us all some time in the future.
    Cheers!

    This was not a question....

  • How can i create and paste my own tags into source page of a html editor

    I download ekit and try to customize.
    I wrote a similar code:
    TagEditor extends HTML
    , and inner class:
    ExtendedTag extends Tag
    by following similar structure with javax.swing.text.html
    I added my own tags into tagList in HTMLUtilities class which is in com.hexidec.ekit.component. Because it is initialized three times when i run the program.
    I add a button to multitoolbar, and wrote a insertMyTag method in class EkitCore:
    private void insertMyTag() throws IOException, BadLocationException, RuntimeException {
    int caretPos = jtpMain.getCaretPosition();
    // htmlKit.insertHTML(htmlDoc, caretPos, "<VAZIFE>", 0, 0, TagEditor.ExtendedTag.VAZIFE);
    jtpMain.setText("<HTML><BODY><VAZIFE></BODY></HTML>");
    jtpSource.setText(jtpMain.getText());
    jtpMain.setText does display in the source editor but the default HTMLEditorKit creates the unkown tags and inserts them into the html view output with box-like borders. I want to keep the tags in the source but remove them from the output view so the user only sees the normal HTML output and my app sees the XML tags.
    What do I need to do in insertMyTag to turn off the strange display of
    unknown tags? Is there an easier way to do this?
    Thanks

    Or, take a ScreenHunter image of the list and email that to yourself.

  • Zen Vision:M ID3 tags being transered to compu

    I always update my artist/titles/albums on the Zen Vision Media Explorer. When i transfer files back to my computer they don't keep there tags that i put in. Is there any way to transfer files to my computer while keeping the players tags?

    I'm not sure if this will help you but generally ID3v tags are more compatible while ID3v2 are more flexible meaning you get more options as what you want in your tags. So I would go with ID3v to be on the safe side.

  • ITunes 6.0.4 Lossless to MP3 Convert Bad ID3 Tag Bug (Intel Only?)

    Hello all,
    I usually rip my CDs to Apple Lossless, name it the way I want, include Album Artwork, then switch rip preference to MP3 (224kbps), highlight the lossless files and choose "Convert Selection to MP3" in the Advanced menu. I do this to save the time of having to rip things twice.
    Up through 6.0.3 it created proper ID3 tags with the album artwork just fine, but upgrading to 6.0.4 (Intel - I haven't verified this with my G4 Powerbook running 6.0.4) I do my usual process, the information is in the iTunes window, matching the Lossless files, but as soon as I delete the items from iTunes (but not the files themselves) and drag the MP3 files back to iTunes, the tracks show up in iTunes without ANY of the ID3 info, but WITH the album artwork.
    The name lists the filename in the Song Name field as if there weren't any ID3 info.
    The reason this came up is I rip to one drive, but keep the MP3s on another drive.
    Anyone else out there with this problem/can verify this problem?
    Thanks!

    There have been a lot of recent posts about tags not being updated properly in iTunes, and I am starting to think that it's a bug.
    In your case, you might want to consider using Max to rip and encode. You can configure the application to rip your CDs and encode to multiple formats at once, using any of the iTunes encoders plus about twenty others, including LAME MP3. The tag information will remain intact, and the output files can be directly added to your iTunes library if desired.
    Also, you may want to try Max's file encoding function for Apple Lossless files you already have stored on your HDD. You can batch encode them to MP3, keeping the tags and album art.
