Keep getting "FaceTime failed" when trying to make calls from my iMac

I am trying to make FaceTime calls from my iMac.
So far it has not worked at all. No matter what number I try to call (I am calling people who have FaceTime enabled iPhones), it rings for a while and then I get "FaceTime failed".
Any ideas what it could be?

Why do I get the message "iPhone Not Available" when trying to make calls from my Mac even when both devices are clearly on the same Wi-Fi network?

I am using a mid-2010 Mac Book and the iPhone 6. I can't imagine that it is due to the age of my Mac because if it was disqualified, then we would not get the option to use it to take calls.

I get the same message and stating that both the iPhone and Mac must be on the same network, which they are. I was able to call from my iPad through the iPhone on the same network I'm using for the iMac and iPhone. I've tried several settings configurations on the iPhone but to no avail.

Facetime not working for 10.7.5. , it keeps saying connection failed when trying to make a facetime call . please help

Ever since the middle of April my facetime stoped working for some apparent reason. When i try to make a call it say connecting then connection failed, and when someone calls me , it'll say connecting and then connection failed . Ive tried rebooting the computer and everything. Apple issued a knowledge base article April 16, 2014: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5419 noting the requirements for software update to be compatible with FaceTime.

Keep getting error -45054 when trying to make a purchase from iTunes.

Whenever I try to make a purchase from iTunes, I get a -45054 error. On the Mac, this error is tied to disk access rights; my problem is not the same. Any ideas? Thanks

Make sure that no other Macs are backing up at the time.
Pull the power cable from the back of the Time Capsule
Count to ten
Plug the power cable back into the back of the Tme Capsule
Wait a few minutes, then try a backup again.

I just checked your account, and see that it's active. Are you trying to sign in via Adobe Reader? If so, please choose Help > Check for Updates in Reader and make sure that it-s up-to-date. The most current version, 11.0.07, should alleviate that sign-in error.

That's definitely enough to start.
It sure seems like it should work...and then I saw that you're using a router. It could very well be that the router is the weak link here.
Instead connecting to your network router, try using a direct USB connection from your MBP. If that doesn't work, you read this post, which may be relevant to your problem:

If anyone is reading this still looking for what caused the issue and how to fix it here is what I discovered.
The antivirus program our company uses, Bitdefender Antivirus Plus, was causing some of the PDF files not to open. After troubleshooting the different modules and settings the culprit was..
Scan SSL in Privacy Control Settings. Turning it OFF solved the problem and all the PDF files that previously would not open now open just fine. This issue has been sent to Bitdefender for them to review. If you use a different antivirus program and are having this issue try locating the Scan SSL setting and see if turning it off solves the problem.

Plug your iPhone into iTunes (current version), let it sync, then click "Check for Updates" on the iPhone's summary page in iTunes.
