Firefox will be hanging for some reason. The quick solutions to kill the process and try again. The next step is to try to see if it will start and exit normally a couple of times, if so the problem is solved. If not the reason needs further investigation.

An immediate likely culprit after repeated problems are the duplicate session restore files, as discussed in the above KB article. -

Only happened after I got a new iPhone *(upgraded from 4 to 5c) and I downloaded the iOS 8.1.2 update.
I've already tried everything on the FAQ page for this error, and nothing's worked yet.
Error looks like this iTunes on my computer: iTunes could not connect to iTunes store. An unknown error occurred (11556)
Also won't connect on my iPhone after signing in.
Just changed my password so it's not that, and I've already restarted my iPhone twice.
PLEASE help. I just got an iPhone 5c and I want to download my old ring tones and alert tones!!!iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting - Apple Support
"Error 11556"
This alert occurs when iTunes is trying to do something not allowed by the iTunes Store in that country.
The most common example of this is trying to sign in while limited to iTunes U by Parental Controls.

I prefer using Firefox, and do all the time. However, this used to happen occasionally, then go away. Now it is happening all the time.
If I try to enter aol email, I receive the message: "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing FF process, or restart your system.
And I can find no way to close it when that happens.
Would really like to have this solved. Do not believe it is a computer or internet problem - just had my computer repaired because of a faulty disc drive. It is a three year old Dell, with Windows XPSee "Hang at exit":

'This happens after a FF session is ended and am back on my desktop screen. If I then try to go back online a message says that FF is already running but is not responding. To open a new session you must first close the existing process or restart your system. I have to restart the computer to before it allows me to go back on. How can I close the session and then open a new one without rebooting???
Hey GreenViking,
You can kill the process manually by right clicking in the task bar (next to the time and date) and opening the task manager.

when I launch firefox get the following message "firefox is already running, but is not resonding. to open a new window, you must first close the existing firefox process, or restart your system" firefox not running and a restart doesn't solve the problem
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
*Firefox 12.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

I installed FF on my new computer, Windows 7 Toshiba, I get the message''' Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system'''. It is NOT open I only have one computer.
I had a computer expert try everything and we cannot get it to open.Look for the firefox process firefox.exe and kill it with for instance task manager. it is also worth watching for plugincontainer.exe.
The problem and solutions are explained in the articles:

Sometimes when I close Firefox and try to open it in few moments it shows me message "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system." However, I haven't opened any additional Firefox related programs, and previous Firefox is closed. First I though it is because of my computer, but then I discovered that other people have the same problem as well

First of all, this is completely normal behavior, although it's a bit irritating, I know. What happens is that when you close Firefox, despite the window disappearing right there and then, Firefox keeps running for a little bit until the whole closing procedure is completed. This can take a fraction of a second on fast computers, or can take a few seconds on slow computers or when Firefox is storing a large session (if you save your tabs). All you have to do is wait a bit until Firefox closes, and then open it again.
To see if it's still running, you can press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC and then, under the Processes tab, you can see if firefox.exe is still there. If it's taking an unusual amount of time to close (which happens very rarely, and only if the browser freezes on exit), you can force the application to terminate from this application (task manager).
Firefox 4.0 will reduce by 97% the time it takes firefox.exe to close, so this problem will be basically erased for Firefox's next version.
Until then, I can recommend you this extension, which helps you restart your browser more easily and without bothering about closing times:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3559/
Hopefully this will help. -
Firefox will just stop loading/ connecting to the internet. The gray circle will just continually move but it never turns green to load the pages. I know it's not my internet because my internet explorer works just fine while this is happening to firefox. So I close firefox and then try to re open it but I get the message: Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system. So I wait a little bit then try and re open it and still get the same message. I then go into my windows task manager and try and end the firefox proccess but it won't end. So I restart my computer and firefox eventually starts acting up again.

When I try to run Firefox I get the message "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system."
No copy of firefox is running as far as I can tell. Restart and restoring system to 10 days ago did not help.
Uninstalling and downloading a new copy - but to not avail.See:

Do you still have a default profile?<br />
If not then delete the file [http://kb.mozillazine.org/profiles.ini_file profiles.ini] to make Firefox create a new default profile.
