Keep iPod displayed in iTunes

Hi,
I just got an iPod Nano. I'm using iTunes 6.0.5.
My iPod Shuffle has an option to "keep this ipod in the source list" so I could edit the song list with the iPod disconnected, then reconnect it at a later time and have it update songs.
I don't see any options for this with my Nano. It disappears from iTunes as soon as I disconnect it. Is this still possible?

Hi TD,
Yes, iPhoto works correctly from the partition and I know that because after holding down "option" and clicking on iPhoto I navigated to the library on the partition.
I am using iTunes version 7.3.2 and iPhoto version 7.0.2
In the iTunes 'Photos' window my drop down options are iPhoto / Pictures / Choose folder.
When I select iPhoto no photos display in the lower window
When I select pictures I see a few photos that have been placed here  (about 30 photos in all.  I have over 4,000 in my library)
When I select choose folder I can navigate to the iPhoto library on the partition but it is grayed out and I cannot select it.
Do you know how to add screen shots to a post?  If you do let me know and I can show you what I'm seeing.
Thanks for your response and your assistance.
Alan

  • Keeping Ipod Icon in iTunes source list when Ipod is disconnected

My shuffle icon used to stay in the iTunes source list even when it was disconnected, which was really nice to make changes and then connect the ipod to update all at once, but it has disappeared. I have done some searching and can't find the answer. Any help would be great, thanks!

    Anthony,
Only shuffles have this "feature"...since regular iPods can sync against any number of selected playlists, one really doesn't need this capability as it less powerful than what is provided.

  • IPod says "Use iTunes to Restore"

My 1st generation ipod nano has been having problems. Whenever I try to turn it on it either does not respond or says "Use iTunes to Restore". When I plug it into the computer, iTunes recognizes it as a "corrupted iPod" and asks if I would like to restore it. When I try to restore it, it begins the process but then says there is an error and it cannot be restored. I have tried to reset my iPod many times, I have tried all USB ports and different USB cords, my iTunes is up-to-date. I don't know what the problem is. Should I send my iPod in for repair, or buy another one, or can I fix it? Please help!

It sounds like you essentially have a new computer and unless you restored from a backup your iTunes library would be empty.  You can transfer your iTunes purchases from your iPod to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
SInce you changed syncing computers. after you move the stuff you need to restore the iPod to factory defaults and sync the stuff back to your iPod.  If you had the iPod backup file you could restore from backup.
If you have non-iTunes pruchases you can copy them to your computer by using one of the third-party programs discussed in this previous discussion:

  • IPod won't display in iTunes

Recently I started having problems with my iPod skipping songs - it would show the song, but skip right over it to the next song when I tried to play it. This didn't happen with all songs, but quite a few of them.
I used the restore in iTunes to rest my iPod, and now it won't show up in iTunes at all. I've tried all the suggestions on Apple's page - restarting my computer multiple times, re-installing iTunes multiple times, using the Windows Install Cleanup Utility, etc. It show up in Windows as a hard drive, and I know it's connected because it's charging. I even ran the iPod diagnostics in iTunes and it says everything's fine, but it still isn't displaying as a device in iTunes.
    Please help!

It may be a drive conflict:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93499
Or you may need to reformat your iPod in Windows. To do so right click on it in Windows, select disk management then format. Use FAT32 format and deselect quick format. After this restore it again in iTunes.

  • Some ipod songs are not displayed in itunes

I discovered several duplicated songs on my ipod touch, so I connected to itunes (PC), but the duplicated songs were only listed once when viewing the ipod music in itunes. While in itunes, viewing my ipod music, I erased all the music on my ipod and itunes then displayed no listing of any song on my ipod. When I check directly on my ipod, there are still 36 songs on the ipod. These are the ones that are dupilicated when I sync the ipod to itunes. How can I get rid of this duplication, or, How can I completely erase all songs from my ipod?

did you solve the problem? I have the same issue.

  • IPod menu display on iTunes

Since I've got iTunes 7 everytime I connect my iPod to the computer
the iPod display settings within the iTunes menu (artist, track name, year etc) are lost or restored.
    Kinda annoying.
    Any thoughts?
Mac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Screw Windoze
Mac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Screw Windoze

I am having the same exact problem with iTunes 7. Though, it only started happening after I received a 5.5 generation iPod. Before this I had a 5th generation that iTunes remembered the view settings correctly for.
No amount of restores or disk utility erases fixes the issue, so it leads me to believe it is how iTunes 7 interacts with the new iPod.
