Keep Loosing my sidebar icons?

Hello,
Received my MBP 17" today. Was finally able to install Photoshop after a re-intall of OSX. Of course now I can't get Illustrator installed? But what is bugging me now are the icons (namely Disk Utility & Activity Monitor) that I drag to the sidebar won't stay there. I close a finder window, open a new one and poof... they are gone? Did the repair permissions thing. Ran Cocktail. Any suggestions?
Mike

Choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu and enter ~/Library/Preferences/ as the folder's location. When this folder has appeared, drag the item named com.apple.sidebarlists.plist to the desktop and try changing the sidebar's contents again. If the Finder asks you to type in your password, select the Preferences folder, choose Get Info from the File menu, and give yourself Read & Write access under Ownership & Permissions.

  • My iPad keeps loosing the internet connection. All of my other devices work. Last time this happened, comcast charged $49 to fix it. They said that it's somethin that I downloaded. How can I get back my internet connection on my iPad ?

My iPad keeps loosing the internet connection. Last time this happened comcast charged $49 to fix it. They said that the problem was perhaps caused by something that I down loaded. All my other devices still connected to internet. Tried to reset my settings. Still won't work. Any advice ?

First, changing your DNS settings could not possibly have any effect on this problem.
When you see an exclamation point in the Wi-Fi menu, from the menu bar, select
     ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Network
Click the Assist me button and select Assistant. Follow the prompts. You may get a warning that Wi-Fi is not available, that you're too far from the base station, or that you're using the wrong password.
Assuming that you've ruled out those possibilities, click the lock icon in the lower left corner of the preference pane and authenticate, if necessary. From the Location menu at the top of the window, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.

  • Keeps loosing passwords

    Hi all,
My aim accounts keeps loosing passwords and have to type it in each time I log in to messages beta.. Any ideas?
    Thanks

    HI,
No, this should not be a problem.
I entered a  New iCloud Issued Apple ID as the iMessages service ID  and it loads all 6 of my iChat IDs with no problem.
There was a sort of implied question as to whether you had issue (of the same nature)  in iChat as well.
To be clear in Lion I am using:-
    1) iCloud @me.com name as both iMessage name and An AIM valid name (two services)
    2) A Google ID
    3) Jabber ID
    4) @Mac.com name
    5) Yahoo ID
    6) another 2 AIM Names (my Main name and a 'Spare")
As you seem to be jsut starting with Lion we have to consider whether you migrated a User from another computer to this Lion one.
If so some of what The SmokeMonster says will apply.
Depending how and what you Migrated the Current Keychain my not be Owned by "You" as the Current Mac User Logged in on this computer.
Make the Finder the "Front App" in the Menu Bar.
USe the Go Menu  and hold the ALT key down to show the Library.
Select the Library and then Keychains
    Highlight the login.keychain.
    Do a Get Info ( Apple/CMD ( or ⌘) and i Keys together).
At the bottom of the panel will be Onwership and Permissions.
You should open the padlock and click the Cogwheel looking icon.
Your Short Name followed by (me) should appear in the list with Read an Write Permissions.
When you use the cogwheel icon it should read to make Your shortname (me) the Owner but greyed Out if you already Own it.
In this Example I have Read and Write access But I am not the Owner

  • HELP  --  KEEP LOOSING PICTURES  -- after loading show up w/ question mark

    Anyone ??!!
I have worked on this document for over 100 hours and made several saves in between, but keep loosing pictures all the time?
Lay-out stays OK, but the locations for many of the pics are indicated with gray squares and question marks!!
Is Pages unable to handle Larger docs with many pics? (I have already split into 2 docs of 27 pages, but problem remains)
    PLEASE ANYONE?

    Hello Robert,
your documents are really huge. Are the files so big or are they so manyfold? If you have the possibility (with Preview or better with Photoshop/Gimp/Seashore) you should save the images with as low size as possible. Do you want to print the portfolio or it is for screen presentation only?
To see if there is a problem with Pages or with the images, you should have a look inside the docuemnt package folder. To do so, do a control-click onto the document icon and choose "Show Package Contents" from the appearing menu. In the new Finder window you can see all the files your Pages document contains. If you can find the images there about which Pages wrote it is missing, try to open some of them in am image editor to see if they are broken.
If you can open them, they are okay. I think the images are made with an digital camera. Of what resolution are the images? If you need the portfolio for screen purposes only, you can calculate them down to 92dpi and a proper pixel count (for smaller display ca. 800 to 600 pixel and for larger display ca. 1280 x 960 pixel). This depends on your own likeness. I only want to give you a guess.

  • RE1000 keeps loosing internet connection

I recently bought the RE1000 extender to improve our network at home.
I'm using the Linksys WRT610N router and Linksys WUSB600N adapters to connect, no encryption or mac filter.
My problem is that the RE1000 extender keeps loosing internet connection, the computers are still connected to the extender with full signal strength but no internet (Network magic icon with red X).
If I disconnect/connect to the wireless network when this happens the computer will connect to the router with only one bar strength.
To fix the problem I must restart the extender, then it works for a couple of days again before internet is lost again.

As you mentioned in your post that if you connect the computer with the router's network it connects with one bar but does it go online? If yes then connect the RE1000 from the Router and check the DHCP client table it will show the RE1000 IP address and then configure the RE1000 again… Here is the link for the configuration of the RE1000…
    http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=93&login=1&vw=1&app=search&articleid=3760&userrole=Linksy...
Wireless settings in RE1000 will be same as router… In order to get the best performance from an RE1000 you need to place the extender in an area where you still have at least 50% signal strength to your router when you place it in the final location where the RE1000 will be used. Once after the configuration of the RE1000 try to connect the wireless laptop and check the connectivity…
Secondly in the DHCP client table the client name shows up with the Device name and not the Wireless Network Name…

  • TS2709 I have AppleTV and Ipad2 running VJay app to my TV over a private cisco router disabled firewall but I keep loosing the video on my TV after a few minutes what can I do?

I have AppleTV and Ipad2 running VJay app to my TV over a private cisco router disabled firewall but I keep loosing the video on my TV after a few minutes what can I do?

I also get this problem on my iPad, so probably not related to the AppleTV. On the iPad I restarted Airport Extreme this time, and then the iPad saw my Home Sharing.
So to recap, restarting the router or Airport Express allowed the iPad and AppleTV to see Home Sharing. Restarting AppleTV also allows AppleTV to see Home Sharing.
So does anyone have any idea?
    Thanks

  • Calendar in Yosemite does not comply to Sidebar icon size setting?

The icon size and the font size in the sidebar of System apps can be set in
System Prefs => General => Sidebar icon size
The Finder of OS X 10.10 does react to this setting, Mail.app does and in Mavericks also Calendar.app did.
On my MBP running Yosemite, Calendar v8.0 always shows quite large icons and a large font in the sidebar.
Is this a problem of my installation, or is it "normal"?
There are other problems of the Calendar sidebar, for example I am unable to enlarge the sidebar to show longer names of individual calendars.

If you want the calendar entries that you create on the phone to sync with the gmail, you need to create the entry in the gmail calendar on the phone.  If you create it in the phone calendar, it is only on the phone.
Usually at the very top of the new event entry you have a choice of which calendar to create this event in.  Either Phone, gmail or any other option you have synced to your phone.  To get it to sync to the gmail calendar you need to select the gmail calender.

  • How to keep the right sidebar on this website from going under the main content (center) column?

Hi...is there a way to keep the right sidebar on this website from going under the main content (center) column when the browser window is made smaller? It would be great if the middle (main content) column could get smaller instead of the sidebar moving under the text when the window is made smaller. I'm working with a fluid layout and this is the first time I've tried this. Any help would be appreciated. Here is the link to the website:

  • My i phone 4  keeps loosing its connection with my Toyota Camry bluetooth-- anyone have any ideas why?

My i phone 4  keeps loosing its connection with my Toyota Camry bluethoth   does anyone know what I can do about that?

Ignore the ridiculous post by W1$C.  He posts that regardless of the person's question.
Things you can do to solve your problem:
    1.  General>Settings>Reset Network settings
    2.  If this is only happening at home, power down your router for a minute, then power it back up.
    3.  Other basic troubleshooting steps outlined in the user guide are to restart, reset, and restore--first from backup, then if needed as a new device.
    Hope this helps.

  • My iphone 3gs keeps loosing wi-fi at home

Has anyone got any ideas as my phone keeps loosing the wi-fi connection at home. Its only in the next room but keeps disconnecting. Please any ideas would be great.

    Please try the following:
    1. Reboot the router by unplugging the power cord. Often your phone will reconnect after you do this. If not,
    2. Reset the phone network settings - tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. When the phone restarts, see if it will reconnect. If not,
    3. Tap Settings > WiFi > Other. Re-enter your network name, security, and network password.
A couple of other tips: Keep your router firmware up to date and replace WEP with WPA2.

  • Got new ATV and all set up. It keeps loosing connection with iTunes on laptop and have tried everything suggested in set up guide. It works fine for a while then the iTunes account vanishes from 'computer' menu TV screen.  Full Wifi signal on both devices

Got new ATV and all set up. It keeps loosing connection with iTunes on laptop and have tried everything suggested in set up guide. It works fine for a while then the iTunes account vanishes from 'computer' menu TV screen.  Full Wifi signal on both devices so can't think what could be causing it to happen. Any suggestions please?

Sorry, I updated another thread I was a part of but didn't update my own thread.....ughhh!
I updated all of my ATV 2's and 3's to the latest firmware when it was released and have been problem free since. I do believe the major issue of not being able to connect after a period of inactivity has been corrected with the latest ATV firmware.
I can look at my network connection table using "netstat -an" in a CMD window and I do not see the massive number of connections I saw before the update.
Here is a link to the other thread I was referring to above:

Have you applied the latest firmware updates to your ATV 3's?

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

  • Sidebar icons: can they be changed?

I've added .Trash to my Finder sidebar so I can drag items to the trash.
I would like to change the blue folder icon to a Trash bin (and wouldn't mind changing the other sidebar icons as well).
Is it possible to change them? And if so, how?
    Thanks!
(I own CandyBar, but not sure it allows you to change an individual folder icon).

The items in the Sidebar are aliases to the original item. If the original item has a custom icon that icon will be displayed in the Sidebar when you drag the item there. You can use GetInfo to change individual folder icons. Find something that has an icon you like, do GetInfo on it, click the wee little icon at the top to select it (a very faint blue line appears when the icon is selected), and select Copy. Then do GetInfo on the folder you want to have the new icon, select the wee little generic folder icon at the top, and Paste.

  • Does the Yosemite Calendar comply to Sidebar icon size setting??

The icon size and the font size in the sidebar of System apps can be set in
System Prefs => General => Sidebar icon size
The Finder of Yosemite does react to this setting, Mail.app does and in Mavericks also Calendar.app did.
On my MBP running Yosemite, Calendar v8.0 always shows quite large icons and a large font in the sidebar.
Is this a problem of my installation, or is it "normal" for the Yosemite Calendar to ignore this setting?

Finder/View/Show Status Bar will bring up slider in Finder windows.

  • Why do the sidebar icons not have colors, etc?

Why do the sidebar icons with Lion not have colors, etc? I customized my icons so I can quickly recognize folders. This is a very significant loss as far as I am concerned. Any solutions or news about rectifying this?

All anyone here can say is "because that's what Apple decided". Whether this will ever change we can't say, being just your fellow users in these forums. You can comment to Apple via their feedback page, if you wish:
