Keep losing imported pics in aperture

I am able to import my IPhoto library into aperture but everytime I close it and relaunch it non of the pics are there. All the events and projects are still listed asd being in aperture but there are no pictures. I've tried different approaches to import the library as well as individual photos and evnts but this keeps happening and i end up having to upload the pictures all over again. Can anyone help with this? Thanks.

No, it is not a shut down issue it is an import issue... and no, they were not back in the trash. Everything works fine when I do the import (all pics import to aperture, and in the correct folders) however, when I quit aperture and open it back up the pics disappear... the event or project folders are still in aperture but they have no pics. it's like when you create a new folder but it's empty because you haven't pt anything in there. I am using the default import settings.

• Do any of you keep your BAD pics in Aperture?

I'm a big believer in that even some of the "bad" shots are worth keeping. Especially for snapshots, etc.
Okay, some are just terrible, but you know what I mean.
I was more okay with keeping these "sentimental duds" in iPhoto. In fact, up through Aperture 2, I essentially used iPhoto for my "snaps" and Aperture for my "award winning museum-quality art shots", lol.
But now I'm on Ap3, and I'm considering consolidating EVERYTHING. But that would mean the good, the bad, and the (achem) UGLY.
I'm just concerned that this will bloat my library, or otherwise impede my workflow. I know Ap can handle "a lot" of photos, but these would be essentially everything "2-stars and up".
Does anyone use Ap for BOTH "pro" and "personal" stuff? Is it okay? Do you mind? Or is it a never ending nightmare? Is it annoying to have to shift through the crap photos, or are folders and albums more than okay to deal w/ that?
Hemming/hawing... thanks in advance.
e

I wouldn't worry about bloat until I got to greater than 100,000 images or less then 1/4 free space on my HD. Only you can decide what images to keep and which to trash; what each of the ratings means to you, etc. Number of images shouldn't impede your workflow, as long as you are consistent in assigning ratings. Aperture allows you to filter every Project and Album, and retains those filters. So your workflow could be to "perfect" all images rated 4-stars and then select the 5-stars from them (for each Project). You could then apply a filter of "5-stars" and whenever you select the Project or Album you would only see your completely edited approved 5-star images. And your 1- and 2- and 3-star images are still there, available any time you want them.
The built-in rating system has seven levels ( rejected and no-rating are levels). Most people use "rejected" to mean "+I want to delete this image+". Of course, you then have to select all the rejects and delete them (three times: Aperture trash, System trash, buh-bye). You could use "rejected" to mean "Awful stuff I never want to see but don't want to throw away". Stuff you want to throw away you can move directly to the Aperture trash using "{Command}+{Delete}". Then, should you want to see the thousands of rejects, just show them.
The only requirement for any system to work is that you apply it consistently. One of the pleasures of Aperture is that it encourages you to come up with your own system. Since you are "+a big believer in that even some of the "bad" shots are worth keeping+", by all means keep 'em. Computers can't feel; they are there to be used.
My advice is to set up one Aperture Library, apply your ratings consistently, use Stacks and Projects and Albums and Filters to present the images useful to your tasks at hand, and keep everything you have any doubts about permanently destroying.

• When exporting files to web pages Aperture keeping losing files, so for instance, if I choose to export 600 images to a new web page, it might do 524 images but not the full 600. I've tried resetting Aperture, it's the latest version etc etc. Help please!

If anyone can help me with this I would be seriously grateful.
When exporting mutliple files to web pages Aperture keeping losing files, so for instance, if I choose to export 600 images to a new web page, it might make 524 pages but not the full 600. I've tried resetting Aperture and its persmission and am using the latest version of 3.
I have 3600 images which I need to upload as sublfolders, each with their own URL and at the moment Aperture is dropping of anything from 1 to 90 images.
This is critical as people need to see each and every on of these images online. So if a file has 600 photos in it, Aperture should make a URL with 600 full image pages. And this is what it's not doing. On small files, say 30 or so it seems to work well, it's when it gets to more than that the problem starts.
I've used Aperture in the past under previous versions and not had this problem.
Any help would be great.
Thanks.
Bob.

Hi Jack,
Thanks for responding (as it seems as though no one else has been able to provide any insight as of yet)! Not sure if you saw my recent post, but the version of Aperture on the 2008 MacBook has been upgraded to 3.1.2 (not sure how; I bought it in 2009, but only have OS X 10.5.8... which apparently can't house 3.1.2 of Aperture, but hey, like many other anomalies i'm encountering, I'm no longer surprised!). I am unable to upgrade it any further, as it warns me that my OS X does not fit the requirements. I exported the projects as libraries; however, like I posted before, apparently these are from too old of a version for the new Aperture (3.3.1) to handle and import.
It's getting to the point where I'd almost pay to upgrade the OS X on my previous MacBook (10.5.8) to something newer in order to THEN update Aperture to a newer version; however, my previous MacBook simply cannot handle this (the specs are awful -- hence my decision to save up and upgrade to the newest MBP with Retina).
I've spent hours upon hours transferring files, libraries as projects, previews, versions, even masters (though, apparently some of them aren't accessible?) with no luck. I've rebuilt the library and reprocessed everything. And this is all after having to return one MBP already since Aperture 3.3.1 is glitch-y as it is, and froze everything for having a "managed library". So, now that I know that I have to deal with a referenced library in Aperture... I just need to actually transfer my previous library to my new one (hopefully WITH adjustments since these are years worth of photos and work).
Again, any help is appreciated. I've lost enough sleep, time, and vision health over this at this point.
Also, I know Migration Assistant is an option, I was told that it wouldn't work properly anyway because of the different operating systems, and the potential for problems.

• I just upgraded to Snow Leopard, and I have Aperture 3.1.3. Now after I import pics from my camera I get a dialog box so large I can't get to the eject card button. I have to force quit Aperture. How do I fix?

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard, and I have Aperture 3.1.3. Now after I import pics from my camera I get a dialogue box so large that I can't see the eject card button. Consequently, I can't get rid of the dialogue box without having to do a force quit on Aperture. How do I fix?

I can drag the dialog box, but I can't move it up far enough to get to the eject card button. The dialogue box contains all the jpeg Numbers I am trying to upload. It has never done that before. It used to be just a smal dialogue box with no jpeg numbers in it.
It is even difficult to get to the Finder with the Dialague box is open. I have to force quit aperture.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Have tried re-building database and it crashed
Library is located on Path: /Users/New User/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Library on my Hard Disk
No updates or upgrades prior to problems
Managed or Referenced Library, my version does not appear to have this option?
I'm running a Mac Pro and my main drive of 3 hard drives has 238.24 GB of available space
The strange thing is I have 3 different logins, one for my iphone, one for my partners iphone and one for our ipad, when I back my phone up I have 3000+ photo's in iphoto and it crashes when it gets to the last 300 or so, same for my partners iphone which has 2000+ photo's, but I tried the ipad which has 600 pictures on the library and it back-up fine without crashing?
I look forward to your reply and thanks in advance for your help/reply

• Why is it impossible to import pics into existing projects in Aperture 3.6 ? It forces me to create a new project on every import. Tried to change that in preferences but no luck.

Why is it impossible to import pics into existing projects in Aperture 3.6 ? It forces me to create a new project on every import.
Tried to change that in preferences but no luck.

It is working for me. Two ways to import into an existing project:
Select a project and view it in the browser in split view. If you drag image files from a folder directly into the filmstrip, the dragged image files will be added to that project.
Or select a project in the library, before you open the Import panel. Then you can switch the destination project in the Import Settings from "new Project" to the selected project.
Have you tried these methods? Where does it not work for you?

• Will there be problems if I move referenced iphoto pics in aperture 3

If haven't imported my pictures from iphoto because I want to keep it around and don't want to have double libraries.
But what if I move or delete pics in aperture - which will be my main editor? Will they move in iphoto as well? I'm thinking this may cause problems in the long run.
Or am I just being paranoid?
Thanks
Frank

I'm sorry your question isn't clear.
If haven't imported my pictures from iphoto because I want to keep it around and don't want to have double libraries.
So: Guessing at what you're asking...
If you have referenced files in iPhoto and Aperture, then unless you deliberately trash the Masters, deleting the files from Aperture will not affect iPhoto, or vice versa.

I bought a new MacBook Pro several months ago. I keep losing my wireless connection (my wife, sitting several feet from me has no problem with her iPad2). I find the quickest fix ix to turn Airport off and back on. Very annoying. Suggestions please?

What kind of wireless router are you using? more importantly which protocol are you connecting with? Are you and wife connecting using the 2.4Ghz band? or do you have a dual band router that offers the 5GHZ band? Are you both connecting vie 802.11 a/b/g or n?
The best thing to do is to go into SYSTEM PREFERENCES and select NETWORK, then select AIRPORT and click on the ADVANCED button.
Under the AirPort tab you should delete all the preferred networks and only add back in your network with the proper security settings and passwords.
If you hold down the option key on your keyboard while clicking on the airport icon at the top on your macbook pro. you'll seesome data that will tell you what band and mode you're connecting at, as well as in an indication of signal strength (RSSI) if you write down and post back that information it'll tell us what's going on.

• Why do I keep losing my "notes"?

Why do I keep losing my "notes"?

I have been losing notes off and on for almost 2 years now. Contract is almost up--will probably switch over to a Galaxy next time.
Notes are extremely important to me. I have NO idea why they disappear. Here is what I learned.
Originally the notes were backed up to my Yahoo account as many of you found out. When you lose one, you will find it in your Notes folder in your Yahoo email account. Similar backup with Gmail.
I started using iCloud for notes a month ago. The huge advantage is that you can compose or paste in large amounts of text from your desktop device, and they are pushed immediately to the iPhone. Editing is a breeze now.
But wait—what happens if you lose a note? I lost my main shopping list this morning while at Home Depot. iCloud is immediately updated, and the note is erased! No backup. So I have resorted to drafting emails of each note which are then saved in iCloud email Draft folder. Works for now, but a horrible workaround for what should be a robust app. Shame on you Apple.

• KEEP LOSING MY BOOKMARKS

Keep losing my bookmarks when signing on and off, and mostly when i reset Firefox to stop freezeups which happen quite often

Hello,
Firefox automatically creates backups of your bookmarks, which can be helpful if your bookmarks are lost or missing. To recover them, follow the instructions below.
You can first try fixing the places file.
Instructions: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locked_or_damaged_places.sqlite
Next...
#Use one of these methods to open the Bookmarks Library window:
#* Firefox 29 and above: Click the Bookmarks button and select Show All Bookmarks.
#* Previous Firefox versions: Click the Firefox button and click on Bookmarks. (If you don't have a Firefox button, click the Bookmarks button or Bookmarks menu item and select Show All Bookmarks.)
# At the top of the Library window, click on Import and Backup and select Restore.
# Click the date of the bookmark backup you want to recover.
# In the new window that appears, click OK.
# Your bookmarks from the selected date should now be restored.
For more information, see the Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer article. For other solutions, see the Recover lost or missing Bookmarks article.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
Thank you.

I have about 200 pics that I downloaded onto my iPad 2 from a folder on my computer that crashed recently. How do I update and back up my iPad without losing those pics? Pics of my 4 beautiful kids... do not want to lose these!

What would you have done if you didn't have an iPad?
Photos on your computer should be included with your computer's backup along with all other important data. The iPad is not designed to intended to be a backup storage device.
The transfer of photos from a computer to an iOS device via the iTunes sync process is a one way transfer only - from the computer to the device. Photos are optimized for viewing on the device the photos are being transferred to - the original resolution of the photos is changed, which is why transferring these photos in the opposite direction is not supported.
There are some 3rd party paid utilities that support transferring these photos in the opposite direction.

• Auto import images into aperture...and continue importing...

i know that there is a script to import images into aperture, but i need to use this with a tethered camera....so i use a canon app to shoot files to a folder and as the files come in, i need them to get imported as they keep coming in....i am only referencing them, so they are actually staying within the folder....i can import the files but i don't know how to/which command "keeps checking the folder for new files that came in" hope this makes sense....
i know that there is a "hot folder" app available which seems to be a automator app, but it is superslow and only brings in every 4th or 5th image (and sometimes just brings everything to a halt...)

• I keep losing sound on my 5s for incoming texts, videos on facebook, outgoing e-mails. Got a new phone, it does the same thing. What do I do?

I keep losing my sound on my 5s iphone. It will work fine, then I use some apps and I lose my sounds. The click when I turn it off, the notification when I get a text, the notification when I send an e-mail, but most importantly, the sound on videos that I watch on facebook. Don't know if it's related to facebook or what? I went to my carrier and they sent me a refurbished iphone. I got it yesterday, but today started doing the same thing. Most of the time, if I turn the phone off and then turn it back on, it works, but I'm so frustrated, I don't know what to do. Anyone else have this problem? My carrier didn't know what the problem was.

You transfer the data (including text messages) and settings from your old phone to your new one by backing up your old phone and restoring this backup to your new one (see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2109). This must have been what your girlfriend did.
If you never backed up your old phone and it doesn't work now, it's too late.

• Problem importing photos in Aperture

Having problem importing pics from finder into Aperture. When I click import and follow the path to the folder holding pics, "processing" icon spins briefly but nothing appears on screen. Folder holds at most 100 pics so I don't think thats the problem. Problem has occurred in the past but usually clears after several attempts - not this time.

Shift-command-4 will bring up the screen saver crosshairs. Place the mouse over the Aperture window and press the space bar the crosshairs turninto a camera (this will take a shot of the whole window it is over) then click the mouse.
Use the camera icon in the text window to attach the image to the post:

My iMac keeps losing the connection to my chosen Airport Wi-Fi network. Anyone know why this happens?

Close all Apps and see if Activity Monitor shows any processes runnung.
Not that I think this is the cure but have you tried these resets:
SMC RESET
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
Wait 15 seconds.
Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
The 5 second timing is important to a successful reset.
PRAM RESET
Zap the PRAM
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.
